The days following up to Bob's surgery were a bit hectic, although everything turned out great and Bob was in good shape, Adam went the extra mile to make sure his dad was comfortable and Kim did her best to support them both.

Being back in DC kind of sucked at the moment, she missed Adam and the current situation had her head spinning, trying to figure out all the possibilities they had.

"I need to talk to you." Burgess bursted out as soon as she stepped into Erin's office.

Lindsay looked at her friend with full attention.

"You look like shit. Is everything alright?"

"Yes, yes it is. I just need to talk to you."

"Sure. As your friend or as your boss?"

"Um, both." Kim said, closing her eyes and shaking her head. Erin looked at her watch and then to her friend. "Are you up for a coffee break in ten? We can go out and you can tell me what's bothering you."

Kim nodded with a shy smile on her face and turned to leave.

The lack of words wasn't something very usual for the brunette and that together with her current demeanor got Erin worried.

Ten minutes later she stepped out of her office and encouraged everyone to take a break and then continue working on their current case, which right now was very frustrating because it looked like they were heading to a dead end.

Kim was quick to get up from her desk and go outside following her friend. They walked in almost silence for about one block until they got to their regular coffee shop.

"You'll take your usual?" Kim asked.

"Sounds perfect."

"Great. How about you go look for a free table and I'll place our orders."

"Yeah." Erin went to look for a spot private enough that would allow them to talk comfortably.

"They are going to bring our drinks in a little while."

"Ok." Erin couldn't care less about her coffee, all she wanted was to know what was going on with her friend. "So, how's Bob?" She asked to break the ice since Kim was just sitting there, as if her mind was blank.

"He's good. Recovering. He's at his place now, Kate and Sam flew to Florida and will be spending a few days with him."

"I'm glad to hear that."

"Me too." Kim started to play with the napkin on the table, looking for the words to start speaking.

"Cut to the chase, Burgess. What's going on?"

"Ladies, here are your drinks." The young waitress interrupted, preventing Kim from answering the question. "Caramel macchiato?"

"That would be me." Erin's husky voice replied.

"So that makes you the owner of the ginger tea." The waitress said to Kim, who nodded and took the cup placing it in front of her before taking the first sip."

"Oh. My. God." Erin stated pausing between every word just seconds after the waitress turned to leave.

"What?"

"You're pregnant!"

"Wha… what? How do you…?" Kim was stuttering and Erin was quick to start talking again.

"Ginger tea? The one person in the world who drinks more coffee than I do, ordering tea."

Kim covered her face with her hands and hid behind them until she felt her friend's hand wrap her wrist.

"Kim? Are you?" The brunette nodded and took her hands away from her face to wipe the tears off her eyes. "Sweety, don't cry."

Erin almost jumped out of her seat to hug her friend. "This is beautiful."

"I know, I just… I don't know, I wasn't expecting this at all and now I have to figure out what to do, and…" Burgess started to cry again, she truly was overwhelmed and her hormones weren't helping.

"Relax. Just take one step at a time. What did Adam say?" Lindsay asked, smiling. She could almost see him jumping around with excitement.

"He doesn't know yet."

"What? Kim, you've got to tell him."

"I know. It's not like I didn't want to tell him." She sighed. "Erin I found out in Florida while Bob was in surgery, what was I supposed to say? 'Hey baby I know you're worried, but by the way, you're gonna be a daddy?'"

"No, you're right. And what are you going to do?"

Kim shrugged before answering.

"Well, talk to the father first. I mean I don't know how he's going to react and to be honest that's been keeping me up at night."

"Are you kidding me? I understand that this wasn't planned or anything, but it's Ruzek, he's gonna be shouting it from the rooftops."

The comment got a little giggle out of Burgess.

"God, I hope so. I know it's weird, but I want this."

"It's not weird, you're having a baby with the man you love." She sat closer to her friend and held her hand. "When are you telling Ruzek?"

"I thought about calling HR this afternoon and asking for a few personal days off. I don't want to tell him over the phone, so I'm flying to Chicago as soon as I'm cleared and try to figure all this out."

"I think it's probably the best thing to do."

"I'm sorry Erin, I know this is the worst time to ask for time off, but I want to do this right."

"Hey, don't you dare apologize for this. You ask HR for the time you need, we can solve the rest." She rubbed Kim's knuckles lightly. "You only worry about you and that little baby."

Kim smiled shyly. "Thank you."

"Anytime, my friend."

Adam was a bit worried, he hadn't heard back from Kim in quite a while. The last thing he knew about her was that she wasn't feeling alright and immediately the flashback of her telling him that she wasn't allowed to donate flood for Bob because of some medication she was taking popped into his head. What if something was wrong with her and she had said nothing not to worry him amidst his father's surgery.

"Any news?" Atwater asked him when he caught Adam looking at his phone for the hundredth time in the day.

"Nope. Nothing."

"Did you try calling her?"

"I did, but the call gets disconnected every time." He shrugged trying to keep his cool.

"Maybe the battery died or something."

"Could be. I'm gonna wait a little longer and if I don't hear anything from her, I'm calling Lindsay."

"Sounds good bro. Do you wanna hit Mollys with me and get your mind off of this?"

"I appreciate the invite man, but I think I'd rather go home and see if I can contact Kim."

"Ok." Kevin cocked his head to the side and moved his hands up, a sign of resignation. "Keep me on the loop, ok?"

"Of course." They bumped fists and gathered the rest of their belongings before leaving the district.

He was getting impatient. During the drive home, he used every red light to glance at his phone and look for an update. But he got nothing.

All his worry disappeared when he opened the door to his place.

He found her lying on the couch covered with a blanket and hugging his pillow, the most peaceful look on her face.

After closing the door softly and leaving his stuff nearby, he walked over to her and sat on the coffee table facing Kim.

He lightly rubbed her cheek with the back of his hand making her stir a little, but not waking her up.

She looked dead asleep and Adam decided to let her rest while he took a shower and texted Kevin.

"Hey." Kim spoke as soon as she heard the bathroom door open and his steps getting closer to where she was. Her voice was groggy and full of sleep.

"Sleeping Beauty is finally awake." He joked before placing a soft kiss on her lips making them curl upwards into a sweet smile.

Kim cupped his cheek with her hand and reached in to get another kiss.

"Sorry for dropping by unannounced." She was almost embarrassed of that fact.

"Mi casa es su casa. Isn't that the whole point of having each other's keys?" He brushed a strand of hair away from her forehead before he kept talking. "I'm not gonna lie though, you had me dead worried when you didn't answer your phone."

"Baby, I'm sorry. I must have forgotten to take it out of flight mode." She sat up making room for him on the couch and he didn't hesitate to sit next to her. "I missed you."

"Me too darling. This long distance thing is getting tough."

"Uh huh."

"So, is missing me the only reason for this lovely surprise? You're ok, right?"

"Why are you asking that?" She started to get nervous. There was a lot to talk about and she had no idea where to start.

Adam hugged her shoulders and pulled her towards him before arranging the blanket over them. "I don't know. When I couldn't reach you I thought about the nurses not letting you donate blood and that medicine you're taking and…" He stuttered. "I couldn't help the thought of something happening to you and you not wanting to make me worry about it." He shrugged. "I know you told me then that everything was fine, but are you?"

Kim took a deep breath, feeling her stomach turning inside her body. She couldn't dilate this any more.

"Baby." She tried to keep her voice as calm as possible. "I'm ok, I'm not sick or anything." She looked down. "And just so you calm down I'm not taking any medication currently, I used to take this thing for my skin but I'm not taking it anymore."

"Ok. Why did you lie about it?"

"Oh God." She moved away from his body to make sure they were face to face. She needed to have full access to his eyes. "Because I knew that people taking that medicine are not allowed to be blood donors."

"Honey, you didn't have to do it if you didn't want to. I never asked you too."

"No. Adam it's not like that. I did want to, but the nurses told me I couldn't do it right now."

"I'm not following what's happening then. Why did they say that?"

She shut her eyes to clear her head and then looked at her man. "Because pregnant women are not supposed to donate blood until 6 weeks after giving birth."

He just looked at her trying to process what she was saying. "What?"

"I… I'm pregnant."

His lack of response was getting to her last nerve and she urgently needed to fill the silence.

"I know this is not ideal, like we never even talked about this, but it happened and I needed to tell you and I just couldn't do it over the phone and..."

"Kim, stop." He interrupted her and she just looked at him with big watery eyes. "We're having a baby?" The brunette just nodded and started to cry as soon as his words slipped out of his lips. "You're not playing with me, right?"

"I'm not. I have the blood test results that they gave me at the hospital in my bag. I'll go get it." She tried to stand up but Adam held her in place.

"We're gonna be parents?" Tears started to pool at the bottom of his eyes. "You, you want this right?"

Kim just nodded and cried. "I do. Do you?"

"Are you kidding me? Of course I want this!" He crashed his lips on hers. "I've always wanted this. You are the only woman I ever wanted to have a family with and for some time I thought that was never going to happen. But now? Not only are you here with me but we're having a baby." He kissed her again and placed his hand on her stomach. "How are you feeling?"

"I'm good. A bit nauseous at times but that's just your kid doing it's thing."

"Our kid. Gosh I'm so happy." He held her face and kissed her one more time.

"What do we have to do now? Do you need to go to the doctor? I can talk to Voight and ask for some days off because I want to be with you every step of the way."

"You don't need to worry about that."

"Of course I do. I want to."

"I know baby, but I asked HR for some days off and I was planning on trying to go to Med together while I'm here."

"How long are you staying for?"

"Five days."

"Great." His hand went back to her belly and he started to speak as he looked down. "Did you hear that baby? You're gonna be with mom and dad for almost a week."

Kim started to tear up again when she heard Adam. Sure she had started to talk to her baby as soon as she knew about them but she never expected Adam to do the same. Especially referring to both of them as mom and dad.

"I love you." She blurted out.

"I love you too, so much. And this little baby."

"This little baby loves you too."

"Darling. We have a bunch of things to talk about."

"I know, but can we do that tomorrow? I just want us to enjoy this moment right now."

"Yeah, we can do it later. I want to enjoy our family too." He hugged her as he leant back. The both of them were now lying on the couch and cuddling . "This is so surreal."

"I know. It's nice though." She said snuggling into his body.

"It is. It's exactly what it was always meant to be." He kissed the top of her head. "Why didn't you tell me right away? Were you afraid I wasn't going to want this?"

"No, I was never afraid of that. I mean I was a bit anxious about how you were going to react but in the back of my mind I knew you were going to be ok with it. But we were in the hospital, your dad was in surgery, you were worried I wasn't going to drop this bomb there."

"I'm sorry."

"No, don't go there. Waiting a little was good for me too. I needed to process everything and find a way to come here and tell you. I wanted to make it more special but it came out the way it did."

"It was perfect as it was."

"Wait. I have something for you." She got up from the couch and went to her stuff, bringing back a paper bag with a ribbon on it. "For your morning coffee."

He sat up and took the gift she was holding out for him. As he opened the bag and pulled out its contents he teared up again. "I can't take it to the district yet. Right?"

"Maybe not yet." She said smiling.

"I love it." He left the 'Best dad ever' mug on the coffee table and stood up to hug Kim. "I promise I'll be the best dad our baby can have."

"I know, babe. I know."
