COLD OPEN
It was a beautiful afternoon at Takamoto Raceway, and the Wacky Racers were getting ready for another crazy racing adventure.
"Hello, sports fans, this is Brick Crashman, coming at you live from Takamoto Speedway," said the announcer. "The sun's shining, and we're getting ready for another exciting escapade with the way-out WACKY RACERS!"
Down on the track, said racers were all setting up to get the race going. They were doing final checks before getting into their cars.
"First up," said Brick. "Is Peter Perkins, aka Peter Perfect, in the Turbo Terrific!"
The camera panned over to a man in a red and white jacket with a matching helmet and a prominent chin. He gave a wave as he started up his car and got into position.
"Next, it's that glamour gal of the gas pedal—Penelope Parras, aka Penelope Pitstop, with her Compact Pussycat!" Brick continued, as the camera panned to a young lady in a mostly pink racing outfit.
People clapped for her as they saw her get into position, showing that the excitement was high.
"Next up, is an apprentice of former Wacky Races alumni, Professor Pat Pending," Brick continued. "Piloting the Converta-Car 32X, it's that pint-size poindexter, I.Q. Ickly!"
Third up was a young, bespectacled boy dressed in yellow and orange, piloting a flying car. People cheered for him as he came onto the track.
"Followed by that petrifying pair, Boris and Carmi in the Creepy Coupe!" Brick continued, as the camera panned over to two vampires.
One was tall, large-headed and big-eared...as well as more batlike. The other was shorter, had a red dye streak in her hair, and only one of her eyes was showing.
A lot of the audience felt a little creeped out, but clapped anyway.
"And, sneaking along in last place, is Mister Double-Zero himself," said Brick. "You know him, you love to hate him, will he win this time? All signs point to 'no way in Hades'—in the all-new Dirty Truckster, it's DICK DASTARDLY, and his sidekick...Mumbly?!"
Last up was a tall, mustachioed man with a pointed nose, dressed in purple. Standing next to him was a blue-gray dog in an orange trenchcoat.
"Something's not right here," Brick commented as he looked through his transcript. "That's gotta be a typo!"
As Dick Dastardly came up nobody cheered for him, and at the same time nobody booed him. They all were at a stalemate on how to feel about him.
"Little hard truth, Mumbly," muttered Dick. "Sometimes the silence is worse than the booing. At least with reactions, you know where you stand. But with silence? It's worse than hate, it's like indifference!"
"...anyways," said Brick, clearing his throat. "The racers are at the starting line, readying to receive today's routes!"
The racers got excited as the course was being displayed for everyone to see. The course was long with multiple stopping points as well as some rough terrain. It was going to be a good challenge.
But before the racers could start, they heard a loud rumbling.
"W-what's this?" asked Brick. "Looks like we might have a new competitor in the running!"
Suddenly a monster truck, that actually looked like a gigantic skull [think the Monster Truck from "Gentlemen, Start Your Monsters" of What's New Scooby-Doo] was coming after the racers with a roar.
"I don't like the looks of this..." Peter said, nervous.
"I dunno, it's kinda got a certain flair to it," commented Carmi.
"Yeah! It looks cool!" grinned Boris.
The monster truck got to the track and revealed that the one driving it was a skeletal driver clad in red and blue.
"Do not continue this race, or you will be doomed!" The Demon Racer called out while revving his engine.
"This is awful spooky!" Penelope declared in fear.
"No kidding!" shuddered IQ.
"I've seen scarier, really," Carmi commented as the Demon Racer turned and drove off.
"Personally, I suspect foul play," said Peter, glaring at a certain racer.
"Hey!" Dick protested. "I'm just as frightened as you are, you lantern-jawed lackwit! How could it be me if I was right here the whole time?!"
"I think we should get some help about this one," Penelope suggested.
"I think you're right!" Peter agreed.
And so, Brick got out his phone and started calling.

That afternoon, the Mystery RV pulled into the RV park of the Takamoto Raceway.
"What a day for a race," Fred commented as they pulled into a spot and parked.
"I'll say," commented Velma. "Plus, first time we've gotten a racing mystery!"
"This should be a very interesting case for sure," Daphne declared as she looked at Shaggy, who was looking at a photo on his phone. "What's up?" she asked. "You seem a little...distracted."
"Like, not much." Shaggy replied. "Just something I did in the past."
"What, exactly?" inquired Daphne.
"I'll tell ya later," Shaggy said as he went outside.
Daphne and the others exited the Mystery RV and walked around the Takamoto Speedway for a bit to stretch their legs and get acquainted with the racers.
As they approached the areas where the racers were supposed to be, they noticed that things weren't as exciting as they were supposed to be. Of course, upon catching sight of the racers themselves, the gang noticed something.
"Is it just me, or do these guys seem...jittery?" asked Velma.
"Almost like...they've seen a ghost!" Scrappy replied.
"More like a monster, but it was actually like a demon," a bystander responded while passing by.
"Well, there's our first snippet," said Fred. "I say we'd best get to asking around."
"No better place to start than with the racers," Velma advised.
"Maybe they'll feel better with a group of crime-solvers helping out?" Daphne suggested.
"Hey, if it helps, then I say we do it," Shaggy responded.
"Reah!" Scooby nodded.
"Plus, they've got us on guard, Uncle Scooby!" Scrappy added.
"Ree-up!" Scooby replied as they went over to the racers. As they got closer they heard the racers discussing what they'd previously borne witness to.
"Hi, we're Mystery Incorporated," said Fred. "Could anyone tell us what's going on? Maybe why everyone seems so on-edge?"
"Peter Perkins, and it's quite a story," Peter said as he introduced himself.
"Well, we've got more than enough time," said Velma. "Start from the beginning, and don't skimp on the details."
"Very well," Peter agreed as he explained the whole situation.
As he did, I.Q. Ickly even managed to bring up the footage from what happened earlier and the mere sight of the Demon Racer and his Monster Truck scared the colors right off of Shaggy and Scooby!
"Yeow!" Shaggy exclaimed. "Now THERE'S a guy who doesn't have any trouble getting gas!"
Scrappy growled. "That big creep!" he remarked. "I'd like to pull his spark plugs out!"
"That's not going to be easy," Dick Dastardly pointed out.
"Why not?" Peter asked. "Most perfect design yet for cheating?"
"How could that have been me if I WAS LITERALLY WITH YOU THE ENTIRE TIME?!" Dick stated.
"Everyone is innocent until proven guilty," Daphne pointed out.
"Let's do some investigating and then see what we turn up," Velma advised.
"Alright, then," said Scrappy. "Plus we gotta find out what the backstory is!"
After a few minutes of research, Velma looked up from her phone. "I think I found something," she said. "Apparently there was a racer that would only ever employ a monster truck for racing and even competed on this course, but got killed in a devastating crash."
"Sounds brutal," commented Fred. "But something brought them back. Question is, what?"
"It says at the bottom that there's a curse on the track that summons the Demon Racer and his Monster Truck to wreak havoc on any that try to win on this track," Daphne explained as she took a look.
"Sounds like something someone would take advantage of to win," remarked Peter as he shot Dick a glare.
"I told you, it wasn't me!" Dick protested. "Do I look like a real estate developer? If it was me, trust me, you'd know."
"Hey, let's at least get the proof before we start pointin' fingers!" insisted Scrappy.
"Anyways, great to see you've all arrived," said Brick as he came over. "But if you're going to take part, you'll need vehicles of your own."
"Okay, I just need to, like, make a call." Shaggy replied as he pulled out a phone.
"Go for it," said Brick.
"In the meantime, we'll get to work!" Fred declared, cracking his knuckles.
A few minutes later, a helicopter came and dropped off a big crate with Shaggy's name on it. "Thanks!" Shaggy called up to the helicopter.
The pilot gave a thumbs-up and flew off. Once he'd left, Shaggy opened the crate, and revealed a red T-Bucket Ford Model T. "Say hello to the Double-Dyno Turbo Blaster!" he exclaimed.
The gang was, to say the least, bewildered.
"Hot rockets!" exclaimed Fred. "Where'd you get a sweet set of wheels like that, Shag?"
"Raggy is a racer!" Scooby pointed out.
"...how long?" Daphne asked.
"And since when?" Velma added.
Shaggy pulled out a tablet and revealed pictures of him winning races.
"Okay, when was that?" Fred asked. "I don't think any of us knew."
"It was, like, during that summer that we were all doing something separately." Shaggy admitted. "Y'know, 8th grade!"
"...ohhh," replied Fred, Daphne and Velma.
"Hey, I know this car!" Penelope declared. "I saw 'er in a few races!"
"Like, really?" asked Shaggy. "I didn't realize anyone from here was watching!"
"Actually, we always keep a watchful eye on potential competition," Boris replied with a smile. "And I think we've all seen you race before."
"Whoa!" commented Shaggy, amazed.
"That's pretty cool, but we can't all fit in Shaggy's car." Fred mentioned. "We'd better get back to making our own!"
"Hey, by all means," responded Brick.
"I'll show you the garage," Penelope said as she led the way.
"Thanks!" replied Velma, as she, Fred and Daphne followed Penelope along.
A moment later, they were inside of an advanced garage that could put a car together in a couple of hours tops.
"Okay, let's see what we can assemble!" Fred declared, swinging his arms.
"I'll handle the computer system to ensure the mechanic equipment works," Velma advised.
"And I'll help design it!" Daphne chimed in. "Originally I was thinking we could each do one...but I guess I don't mind collaborating on one."
"Actually, we could do one for each other," Velma suggested. "With how advanced and fast this garage is, we can make individual cars."
"Well, okay then!" Fred nodded. "Without any further delays, let's get back to work!"
The girls both nodded and got to work on their cars.
Velma made her own compact car, Fred used a modified version of the Mystery Machine, and Daphne made a motorcycle.
"Um, technically the race is for cars only, but given the circumstances I guess we can make an exception." Brick explained as he added them to the roster.
"...well, good to know for next time," said Daphne sheepishly.
"Eh..I guess we can make an exception this time," Brick assured her.
Soon, everyone was out at the starting line. The engines were revving and the racers were tense.
"On your marks!" called Brick. "Get set! ...GO!"
At that, all of the racers sped off.
"Alright, Mumbly, you're new to this, so I'll explain," informed Dick. "First one across the finish wins. But of course, we need to cheat in order to win. Well, it's not so much need as it is a want."
"Yeah-yeah, yeah yeah!" nodded Mumbly before mumbling something to Dick, that sounded quizzical.
"Yes, I know the Dirty Truckster is fast and powerful, but it wouldn't be ANYWHERE near as fun to just win so easily," responded Dick. "Of course, the next step is to put the other racers off our trail by misdirecting them!"
Mumbly held up a direction sign while chuckling.
"Well, can't deny the classics," smirked Dick as he pulled over, then got out a bucket of paint and a brush. "Now, let's hurry! We've got a few minutes, so let's get it set up!"
"Yeah-yeah!" Mumbly nodded in agreement as he got to work in painting the sign.
As they did that, the others were doing their best to take the lead. Each of the gang as well as the racers were jockeying for first place, using everything at their disposal to make it through the amusement park.
However, they were unaware of what was waiting for them as something was hiding nearby...
00000000000
Meanwhile Dick and Mumbly had finished on making their sign and were getting ready to make the switch.
The sign read:
DETOUR TO THEME PARK EXIT—
Racers: due to construction going on, we've had to put out a detour which you can use, lest you get injured going through here.
They both chuckled as they put the sign up. It was a fun plan, but then they started to hear another engine revving, and it was a big one!
"Hmm...you don't suppose..." Dick mused as he looked around for the source of the revving.
Suddenly, the Monster Truck came out—and with it, the Demon Racer! "NYA-HAHAHA!" he laughed while chasing Dick.
"YEEEAAAAGH!" howled Dick as he scrambled into the Dirty Truckster. "Floor it, Muttley—er, Mumbly! And don't spare the gas!"
Mumbly got to it and pressed the pedal all the way down. The Dirty Truckster spun its wheels...and started rolling in reverse!
"Forward, Mumbly!" Dick corrected. "Forward!"
Mumbly quickly shifted into forward drive, and they sped off, with the Demon Racer hot on their heels.
"You're going down in FLAMES!" The Demon Racer called with a laugh as he charged forward.
"Not likely!" Dick yelped. "Mumbly! Release the oil slick!"
Mumbly nodded and pressed a button on the dashboard; from the back end, the DT ejected a spray of oil across the road behind them.
"That's what you think!" The Demon Racer said as it unleashed sand from the mouth of the skull and covered the oil and made it safe to drive over.
"There's the demon!" Shaggy called out as he spotted it from afar. "And like, he's chasing Dick and Mumbly!"
"Rhaddo re do?" inquired Scooby, who was in the backseat with Scrappy.
"We show that bully a thing or two!" Scrappy exclaimed.
"Well, I do, like, have a bunch of gadgets and gizmos that could help, all packed into this old jalopy," Shaggy mentioned.
"Then I say we put 'em to good use!" Scrappy responded.
"Okay, I think the jet boosters should help!" Shaggy mentioned.
"Rhen crank 'em up!" said Scooby as he strapped himself in.
"And I'll push the button!" Scrappy said as he got strapped in and got ready to press.
So the Double-Dyno Turbo Blaster headed for the Demon Racer, which was still in pursuit of the Dirty Truckster.
"Like, push it, Scrappy." Shaggy told the small dog.
"Ta-da-dada-da-daaah!" Scrappy exclaimed as he slammed the button down. "PUPPY POWER!"
[And lo, the first uttering of the phrase! How it'll be utilized in future episodes remains to be seen...]
Out of the bumper came a pair of jet boosters, which lit up and roared with flame; immediately after, they zoomed off and shot right past the Monster Truck and the Demon Racer.
Spotting them, the Demon Racer diverted from the Dirty Truckster, and started heading after the Double-Dyno Turbo-Blaster. "I can play with you at my leisure," he growled. "First, I need to deal with the immediate threat!"
"Here it comes, so let's, like, out-maneuver it!" Shaggy suggested as they kept up their speed. "Hit the drillbit!"
"Rokay!" Scooby reached over and slapped a button on the dashboard, then a drillbit popped out of the front of the car, and then they tunneled underground, leaving the Demon Racer in the dust.
"Hey?!" The Demon Racer called out. "Where did they go?"
The Double-Dyno Turbo-Blaster burst out of the ground a few feet ahead, and once that was done, they started driving normally down the trail.
The other cars had scrambled and gone into hiding, while the members of Mystery Inc. took the opportunity to monitor the Demon Racer, as well as look for anything that could give them a clue.
"See anything?" asked Fred.
"I think there's a small oil leak." Velma replied. "We'll get a sample after it leaves."
"Okay," nodded Fred.
"10-4," Daphne gave a thumbs-up.
After a few moments of not seeing any activity, the Demon Racer drove off into the nearby forest. "Next time, I think, I'll go for the one in pink," he growled as he left.
Once he was gone, the racers came out of hiding, and Velma instantly went to get a sample of the oil. She went and scooped some up in a vial with a tiny spoon, as did Penelope.
"This is definitely worth analyzing," she mused.
At that point in time, it was pretty late in the day, and the sun was setting. Since nobody felt like driving at night, everyone gathered to set up camp. Naturally, they had to stay close in order to make sure they didn't get jumped by the Demon Racer. So they camped out between the arcade and the Tilt-a-Whirl.
"Everyone set up for the night?" Peter asked as he was checking on everyone, while roasting hotdogs.
"Affirmative," IQ responded.
"Snug as a bug, shug," Penelope replied.
"Doing well," Boris yawned.
"As good as I can get." Dick mentioned.
Mumbly grunted as he shifted around in his perch in the Dirty Truckster, and cocked his gun. CH-CHIK.
As everyone was settling in, Penelope decided to gather the gang together.
"What's up, Penelope?" Fred asked.
"It's about time I mention this, but I'm a secret agent working on a case," Penelope explained.
"...whoa, really?" Fred asked, bewildered. "Gol-ly!"
"Why are you here?" Daphne asked.
"Well, everyone needs a break, and after my sister and I dealt with our former guardian, Sylvester 'Sneekly' Smith, I felt now was the best time," replied Penelope. "Plus, it would be a good opportunity to scout for possible allies and enemies. That, and I've noticed a few things."
"What have you noticed?" Velma asked.
"For one, Dastardly's file claims he has a partner named Muttley," replied Penelope. "But this time, he's with someone named Mumbly. This implies something has happened to him. Question is, what?"
[We'll delve into this much later. Promise!]
"That is a good question," Velma pointed out.
"And a little suspicious..." Daphne added.
"Yeah, but what could it be?" mused Fred. "There's the big mystery for us...well, one of them."
"Speaking of mystery..." Penelope mentioned. "What's the oil you found?"
"A particular oil used on cars with hydraulics, as well as various mechanical parts and machinery," Velma explained.
"And it must be from the Demon Racer," added Shaggy.
"Exactly," Velma confirmed. "We did some comparison work."
"But what's this guy after?" Scrappy wondered, rubbing his chin.
"Hard to say..." Fred replied. "It could be something to do with the race or maybe a grudge against the racers."
"We'll need to dig up more information as we go," Velma advised.
"Reah!" nodded Scooby.
"In the meantime, let's all turn in for the night," Penelope suggested.
Nobody disagreed with that, and they all turned in for the night. As they slept, someone snuck around and checked on all of them before leaving. (According to my cowriter, this was Penelope)
The next day, everyone was up and relatively ready to get a move on. It had been a long night, but now they were just itching to get back in the race.
They all did a quick check on their cars before getting ready to go. Once everyone was sure they were ready, they got back into their driving seats and started up their cars.
"Okay, this next stretch takes us out of the park and the next destination is an old western ghost town!" Brick informed them.
"Oh, like, come on." Shaggy muttered. "Ghost town, really?"
"Come on, Shaggy," Velma said. "You know ghost towns never have any actual ghosts."
"Doesn't make them any less creepy!" Shaggy mentioned.
"Still, we may as well make do," replied Daphne. "No victory without sacrifice."
Soon, the race began again and the racers sped off. This time, Penelope hit a button on the dashboard, causing her car to ratchet into the air, allowing her to tower over the other racers as she was passing them by.
"Like, I don't think so!" Shaggy said as he hit a button on the dashboard, and it made his car slip by all the others while he took the lead.
"Dang!" Penelope remarked, impressed. "He's good!"
"Finally, a worthy challenge!" Boris declared.
"Indeed," Carmi agreed.
"It is most impressive," IQ responded. "Still, my pride as a racer will not have me simply let him win. Computer, calculate the quickest route to the front, please."
"Calculating..." The computer replied. "Unable to comply, due to incoming danger."
"Incoming danger?" IQ mused as he looked up and around. "What could it mean by-"
And then, there came an all-too-familiar cackle. The Demon Racer came onto the track, laughing wickedly.
"...okay, this IS a big problem," IQ had to admit.
All the racers took notice of the unwanted guest, and started speeding up to avoid him.
"That guy never gives up!" Peter complained as they were all picking up speed.
"Yeah...he's pretty tenacious!" Fred responded, as the Demon Racer was heading for the front...and for the Compact Pussycat, too!
"Like, incoming!" Shaggy called out as he spotted the Demon Racer first.
Penelope looked over in the rearview mirror, and saw the Demon Racer's Monster Truck coming up behind her. Pressing one of the dashboard buttons, she made her car use its hydraulics to hurl itself into the air [think the Mach 5 from Speed Racer] before it landed behind the Demon Racer.
The Demon Racer did a double-take upon seeing that. Still, if he couldn't get Penelope...he decided to double back and attack the Creepy Coupe!
"Looks like the Demon Racer wants us instead..." Boris said while driving.
"Let him try," Carmi responded as she hit a switch on the dashboard. "See if he likes Dragon Power!" Out of the top of the car emerged the neck and head of a massive orange dragon, which blew fire at the Demon Racer. The blast of flame made the Demon Racer get out of the way to avoid getting burned.
"Heh, that oughta show 'im!" Boris remarked.
With the Demon Racer out of the way, they made it to the ghost town. Once they arrived, they used the buildings as cover.
"Dart in!" said Fred. "And now, let's hope this works..."
So they took cover and hid in the buildings while the Demon Racer came rumbling into town. Before he could start crushing houses, the Demon Racer ran into a metal statue that dented his monster truck. The damage needed immediate repair and thus he left the area.
"I'll deal with you later..." he growled as he drove off, leaving in his wake...a purple scarf.
Shortly afterwards, Scrappy managed to snag it. Then once it was certain that the Demon Racer was gone, everyone came out of hiding.
"Everyone okay?" asked Fred.
"Fine n' dandy!" Penelope called out as everyone checked in.
"Good to know," said Fred. "We're definitely gonna need to trap that guy somehow."
"Like, I might have something!" Shaggy suggested.
"Yeah?" asked Velma as everyone turned towards him, curious.
"My car has a tow cable." Shaggy revealed. "I can, like, drag the monster truck into the trap."
"Are you sure it'll be strong enough to?" asked Daphne.
"Funny thing about monster trucks is, they look heavy, but they're lighter than they appear," Peter pointed out.
"Huh...well, I guess that helps," responded Daphne.
"I have a huge roll of flypaper," Dick revealed.
"I also have an EMP cannon that I utilize for emergencies!" IQ admitted as they pulled out said items.
"Then we're going to need to put our resources together," Fred replied.
The other racers agreed as they got to work.
Later on, it was time to finish the race. At that point, everyone was ready, and their cars were all arranged in a line, with Shaggy at the back.
"Okay, so how can we be certain the Demon Racer will come after Shaggy?" asked IQ.
"Because, Shaggy will be in disguise." Penelope revealed.
"Ahhh," nodded IQ and Peter.
"My car has a few extra surprises for emergencies," Shaggy mentioned as his car currently looked like the Compact Pussycat.
"We noticed that the Demon Racer was after me yesterday, so we figured that I'd be good bait," Penelope pointed out.
"Or in this case, he," Fred commented. "Good call; admittedly, we would've done the same."
"Yeah, Shaggy kinda mentioned that," Penelope replied. "At least this time he'll be prepared."
"Okay, guys, this is the last leg of the race," said Scrappy. "So let's make it a good one!"
"And let's catch us a demon!" Fred declared, and nobody could disagree with him there. They all got into their cars and started them up. This was the final part of the race and everyone was getting antsy to see who would win...as well as if the Demon Racer could be caught or not.
"Ready?...Get set...GO!" Brick exclaimed, and the vehicles drove off. Once again, the race was on as they charged forward. Everyone was gunning for first place while watching for the Demon Racer.
As expected, the Demon Racer came rumbling up, jaws gnashing furiously.
"Now to finish this!" The Demon Racer said while going after Penelope, or who he thought was Penelope. "I've got you now!" he called, extending his truck's neck out to chomp down on the car.
"Now, tow cable engage!" Shaggy called out.
"Rpkay!" Scooby said as he fired the tow cable and hooked the monster truck in the mouth.
"Awright!" Scrappy beamed. "We hooked 'im like a bigmouth bass! Just like on TV!"
"Like, now to reel him in!" Shaggy said as he stepped on the gas.
The Double-Dyno Turbo Blaster dropped its disguise, as Shaggy hauled in the Demon Racer. "Hey, let go!" The Demon Racer called out while trying to escape, but to no avail. "What's this line made out of?"
"Wow, Shaggy, your tow cable is strong enough to hold back a jet?" Scrappy asked while looking in Shaggy's homemade manual.
"Like, yeah, since you never know when you might need to tow one!" Shaggy admitted.
Scooby nodded as he strapped back in, and the truck was pulled towards the finish line. You see, earlier that morning the group had set up the trap to engage once the monster truck crossed the finish line. Once it crossed, the tires were coated in the flypaper and made it hard to move. Then, IQ fired his EMP cannon and killed the engine and electronics in the monster truck.
"No! Damn, no!" growled the Demon Racer as he tried to start the truck...but it did him no good. He broke one of the windows, then scrambled out and tried to make a run for it. However, Penelope fired a net launcher and caught the Demon Racer before he could get away. "Argh!" the Demon Racer roared as he was struggling to escape.
"Now, let's see who this Demon Racer really is!" Fred declared as he went over. Everyone else followed to see the unmasking—they'd heard about it, and wanted to bear witness.
Fred grabbed the mask and pulled it off and everyone was surprised by who it was. Underneath was a dark-haired young woman with purple irises and lipstick.
"PANDORA?!" the racers exclaimed.
"Come again?" asked Fred. "Also...who?"
"...my twin sister," replied Penelope.
[From the 2017 Wacky Races reboot!]
"The one that's unfortunately a sore loser," Peter mentioned. "She's not a very good sport."
"Eh, been there, went back," shrugged Dick. "Bought a timeshare."
"But why do all this, baby sis?" asked Penelope.
"I suspect that it was so she could eliminate her sister, Penelope, and win the race." Velma explained.
Pandora scoffed. "Hah! Nice try, brainiac, but no dice," she smirked.
"Then why?" Daphne asked.
"Because..." Pandora said. "I. HATE HER. Do you KNOW what it's like having parents who give your sister all the attention and love while leaving YOU to sink or swim? Every time I wanted to stand out on my own, I was always stuck in the shadow of sweet, perfect Penny Parras, she who can do no wrong. Oooh, it made me sick to my stomach!"
"Golden Child Syndrome," Velma declared. "Not an official term or diagnosis, but that's what it is."
"This time, I couldn't care less about winning. I would've gladly lost the race if it meant making sure my obnoxiously perky sister came in second for once in her precious little life," Pandora responded. "And I'd have gotten to savor it, if it wasn't for you meddling kids and your nosey dogs!"
"And that concludes another mystery." Fred declared.
"As for the race, Shaggy Rogers officially wins!" Brick declared as he brought out the trophy.
"Like, wow!" Shaggy remarked as he accepted the trophy.
"Alright, I'm done," said Pandora. "You can call the cops now."
Penelope, in spite of it all, looked guilty. "Panny...all this time, I supported you," she said. "Even when we were little!"
"And what, that was supposed to help? I didn't want or need your pity support," Pandora remarked, lowering her head. "If anything, it just felt like you were mocking me, and that hurt worse than any neglect."
"Unfortunately, what can be meant as support tends to not be as helpful as people think at first," Velma pointed out. "It's a hard truth that we all have to face."
Penelope looked on sadly as her sister was handcuffed and led away to the paddy wagon. Maybe if things had been different...she and her sister could've been friends.
"Maybe she just needs some help to get back on her feet." Daphne suggested as she comforted Penelope.
"...maybe," responded Penelope after some hesitation.
"There's always hope," Velma assured her.
Penelope gave a little smile. But it wasn't one of those manufactured, phony, for-the-camera smiles. It was genuine. "Yeah," she replied. "You might just be right."
"For now, let's have fun and celebrate a good race," Daphne suggested as Shaggy was being held up with the trophy. "It's not everyday that an underdog gets to win in this kind of top-notch race."
"And now this underdog is over the top!" Scrappy exclaimed.
"We would be honored to race with you again," Boris said with a smile as they celebrated.
"Consider it done!" Scrappy responded.
"Reah," Scooby nodded, feeling not too scared.
"Like, you got it!" Shaggy agreed as he was excited about racing again.
So, both groups went and celebrated Shaggy's big win.
"Scooby-Dooby-Doo!"
Meanwhile, Pandora was being taken away in the paddy wagon. However, something, or someone, was following it.
"Maybe this won't be so bad," Pandora shrugged, her chains jingling. "At least I'll have some time to get better by myself."
Then suddenly the paddy wagon stopped and she was jolted around. "Huh?" Pandora asked, raising a brow. "What's going on?"
Then the door opened, and Fondoo came in. "Greetings, I, the Great Fondoo, have an opportunity for you," he said with a smile.
"Explain," Pandora responded.
"Basically a team is being put together to take down Mystery Incorporated forever," Fondoo explained.
Pandora smirked. "Alright, Mumford—you got a deal," she said. "Get these cuffs off, and we're outta here."
"Alacaboom, alacabiff—take these cuffs off in a jiff!" Fondoo said, before with a wave of his hand, the cuffs vanished!
"Not bad," Pandora replied as she jumped out and headed off with Fondoo.
Another member of the mysterious group has been inducted. One mystery may have ended, but another was just beginning.
- This Wacky Races assembly is made up of the classic series, the 2017 reboot, and the one-and-done pilot, Wacky Races Forever.
- Boris and Carmi are based on the unnamed drivers of the Creepy Coupe from Wacky Races Forever, which is where the design for Dick's outfit comes from. Boris is named for Mr. Karloff, and Carmi is named for the lady vampire, Carmilla.
- IQ, Brick, and Pandora are from the 2017 series.
- The surnames for Penelope, Pandora, and Peter, along with the idea for IQ being Professor Pat Pending's apprentice, were inspired by a project done by one of my fellow writers, KivatheDCWizard, aka KivaHoloTitan...aka...well, whatever he changes his name to later on.
- Dick and Mumbly's vehicle, the Dirty Truckster, is from the shorts Fender Bender 500, which were part of the Disney Channel series "Wake, Rattle and Roll"! Notable for being the final time Arnold Stang voiced Top Cat, and the very last time Dick Dastardly was played by Paul Winchell.
