It was early morning, 8:30 am on Monday, December 2ndto be exact. It was quiet in the house, Lance and Keith were still sleeping in their bedroom and little Sophia was sleeping soundly in her little canopy bed that she had begged with the puppy dog eyes for her parents to buy for her. Kosmo was lying on the foot of her bed, ever since they adopted Sophia, the cosmic wolf had become quite fond of the little girl and had become protective of her as if she were his own pup. Whenever she slept or was out of view of her parents, you could always count on Kosmo to be at her side, watching her to keep her out of danger and trouble.
Keith was cuddled up against Lance as the couple slept, though he would never admit it out loud, Keith didn't sleep right unless he was cuddled up beside Lance. He found that his mind was always calm enough to fall asleep easily enough whenever he was beside Lance.
It was quiet for a few moments more before there was the excited squeal and the sound of little feet running down the hallway. "Daddy! Papa!" Sophia cheered excitedly as she ran into her parents' bedroom and jumped up onto the bed.
Keith was the first startled awake, his instincts flaring up before he relaxed seeing it was just his daughter who had run into their bedroom, followed by Kosmo who stood at the foot of the bed, having followed the young girl from her bedroom.
"What is it Sophie?" Keith asked, his voice a little groggy from just waking up.
"Where's the fire?" Lance asked as his eyes opened, slowly sitting up and ruffling their daughter's hair, messing up her bedhead even more. "What's got you so excited this early in the morning?"
"It's snowing!" Sophia cheered out excitedly, the little girl was practically bouncing from how excited she was.
Both parents were shocked for a few moments before they looked towards the window and…yep. Sure enough, it was snowing outside. It had already snowed a decent amount overnight and it was still snowing lightly.
"So it is," Lance said with a soft chuckle. "First snow of the season."
"Can we go play outside?" Sophia asked expectantly, her eyes holding the puppy dog look they always did whenever she wanted something.
"After you've had breakfast you can," Keith said as he got out of bed and rubbed the sleep out of his eyes.
"Aww but…"
"Hey now, no pouting," Lance said as he reached over and pulled his daughter into his lap. "I wanna go play in the snow just as much as you do but your daddy's right. A growing girl like you has to eat her breakfast. I promise that after breakfast we can all get ready to go play outside, okay?"
"Okay," Sophia replied softly, her soft pout still present on her face. She was a child, they all hated waiting for something.
"Why don't you go watch tv downstairs for right now? We'll be down in a few minutes to make breakfast okay?" Lance asked as he set her down on her feet on the ground.
"Okay papa!" Sophia cheered before running out of the room and down the stairs to the living room, Kosmo trotting after her.
After a few minutes, Keith and Lance made their way downstairs and into the kitchen, Sophia could be heard in the living room. The sounds of Bluey could be heard on the television, it was her favourite show. With Bear in The Big Blue House being a close second.
Lance started to get the ingredients out to make scrambled eggs and bacon for breakfast, it was one of Sophia's favourite breakfast meals. And she loved how Lance always added a little bit of shredded cheese into the eggs to make them cheesy eggs.
While Lance was getting breakfast started, Keith got a pot of coffee brewing with the coffee grounds they used. Once the pot was brewing, Keith pulled out two coffee mugs out of the cupboard and set them on the counter.
"Daddy, when can I have coffee?" Sophia asked as she suddenly appeared beside Keith, he hadn't even heard her enter the kitchen.
"Not for a few years sweetheart," Keith replied with a soft chuckle. "You're only 3 years old, you don't need coffee in your system yet."
"Or else you'll be bouncing off the walls like a crazy bouncing ball," Lance piped up with a teasing smile.
"How come you and papa get to have coffee and I don't?" Sophia asked with a pout.
"Because we're adults, we're allowed to have coffee," Keith replied, ruffling her hair. "When you're older you can have some coffee. In the meantime, how about some orange juice instead?"
"Yay!" Sophia cheered happily, orange juice was one of her favourites things to have with her breakfast.
After making sure Sophia had eaten all of her breakfast, the little family got ready to go outside in the snow. They made sure Sophia was dressed in warm clothing before they shuffled her into her snow pants, snow boots, winter jacket, a hat and pair of gloves.
The last thing that went on her was a scarf that Keith tied around her neck. It was her favourite purple scarf with little white snowflakes detailed on it.
"There, all bundled up to keep you warm," Keith said as he tucked the scarf into her coat.
"Can we go outside now?" Sophia asked excitedly as she bounced up and down.
"Have at it princess," Lance said with a soft chuckle as he unlocked the front door and opened it.
"Yay!" Sophia exclaimed happily before she ran through the door and down the stairs into the snow in the front yard. Kosmo was quick to run after her, ever the protective cosmic wolf.
"I think she's excited for the snow," Lance joked with a smirk.
"Ya think?" Keith replied with a joking roll of his eyes before he walked outside to keep an eye on Sophia, Lance following after him, closing the door behind him.
After a couple of hours of Sophia playing in the snow, her chubby little cheeks and the tip of her nose were slightly rosy from the cold. She looked cold after hours of being in the snow but she didn't look ready to go inside.
"Cold there princess?" Keith asked as he walked up to Sophia. Sophia shook her head, determined to keep playing in the snow.
"I think that red nose of yours and rosy cheeks say otherwise," Lance piped up as he bent down and bopped Sophia's nose playfully.
"But I wanna keep playing," Sophia replied with a pout.
"I know you do. But you don't wanna get sick from staying out for too long do you?" Keith asked gently, kneeling beside Sophia. "It snows lots in December, there will be lots of chances to play in the snow."
"You promise?" Sophia asked softly.
"I promise," Keith replied gently. "How about we go inside and have some hot chocolate to warm up?"
"With marshmallows?" Sophia asked hopefully, her eyes sparkling.
"Always with marshmallows," Lance replied with a soft chuckle. "Let's go get your snow gear off and then we'll make the hot chocolate."
"Can I play outside tomorrow?" Sophia asked as she followed her parents back to the front door of the house, Kosmo trotting beside her.
"You can play outside every day princess," Lance said with a smile as she pinched her cheek playfully.
"Yay!"
Note:
