Ameer's party was the kind you'd remember for a long time. With an extraordinary mansion as the location, his family went all out to transform their home into a marvelous Pokémon themed party. They had Pokémon running around the backyard which was filled with birthday decorations. Streamers, confetti, and Rapidash shaped Pinata's littered the backyard.

There were a lot of people there. Mainly classmates and friends of Ameer but Brock was there as well.

...

After an hour or two of the celebrations, people began leaving the party. The gift opening had already ended, the cake was cut. The party was just about over. Eventually everyone had left the party. I stayed behind to help Ameer and his family clean up.

"So, what was the big news you wanted to tell me?" asked Ameer as he bent down to pick up leftovers from the pinata.

"Oh yeah, I may or may not have gotten a Munchlax egg." I said while cleaning the table.

"Wait you got a Pokémon?"

"Technically it's still an egg." I said.

Ameer looked at me like I just killed a man in front of him.

"that's not fair man." He said, looking defeated. "I wanted to get a Pokémon first. Lucky ass."

"Hey, my egg isn't hatching for a while, you got time."

Ameer chuckled. "I'm just playing man. Good for you."

...

After an hour we finally finished cleaning up after the party. Me and Ameer laid down on the couch, exhausted from all the work.

"Happy birthday."

"You already told me that."

"I know." I laughed.

Me and Ameer started talking about our plans for when we turned 16. Ameer said he would wait a month for my 16th birthday and leave the day after.

As we were discussing, Mr. and Mrs. Marsh entered the room with a small Gift.

"Hello Laith." Said Mr. Marsh. "Looking quite snazzy, aren't we?"

"Dad, we don't say snazzy anymore." Ameer said looking embarrassed.

"Oh. Righ-" Mr. Marsh was cut off when Mrs. Marsh elbowed him.

"Anyways dear, your father and I have one last gift for you." Mrs. Marsh gestured towards the gift box.

"Sweet."

Ameer got up and thanked both of his parents with a quick kiss on the forehead each before taking the box and sitting back down. His mother took out her Rotom phone, I assumed it was to take a video, so I backed out of frame.

Ameer unwrapped his gift and was left with a box. He slowly lifted up the lid and peered inside.

Ameer's Jaw dropped. "No way..." he said slowly

He reached in and pulled out a Pokeball.

Mrs. Marsh started jumping in place and Mr. Marsh puffed out his chest proudly.

"Well son, your mother and I figured that since you were leaving next year when you turn 16, We would let you choose a starter Pokémon from our Pokémon Haven."

"We figured it would be best to let you bond with one before your journey." Mrs. Marsh said with a smile.

Ameer was ecstatic. He rushed outside to their front yard, Pokeball in Hand.

I admit, I was kind of jealous, but I was also happy for him. I stood up and started walking to the front door after Ameer.

"Wait a second laith." Mr. Marsh blocked the door.

He rummaged through his coat pocket before pulling out a second Pokeball.

"This is for you." He said, Placing the Pokeball in my hand.

"w-wait no. I couldn't Mr. Marsh. I appreciate the offer, but I already have a Pokémon of my own."

"Do you now?" Mr. Marsh looked at me questionably.

"Well, I have a Munchlax egg." I said.

"It's quite alright my boy, I insist. You're basically my second son. We were going to gift you a Pokémon next month on your birthday, but we figured it'd be best if we gave you one the same day Ameer gets his."

"Laith, go ahead. It's a small gift from the Marshs to give you a head start" Mrs. Marsh said with a smile.

I looked down at the Pokeball in my hand. Was it really alright for me to take this?

I turned around to look at Mrs. Marsh. She nodded her head with a smile.

I turned back around to Mr. Marsh.

"Thank you, sir."

"Your welcome son, now go on ahead and choose a Pokémon, any Pokémon."

I smiled and walked outside.

...

Ameer had already chosen his Pokémon. He ran around the Pokémon Haven until he found his new starter.

A small light blue Gible with a Yellow underbelly. Of course he picked the only shiny dragon type in the Haven.

The Marshs had quite the collection of shiny Pokémon in their Haven. Ranging from Pidgeys to Ralts.

I of course would not be taking any of them. Shiny Pokémon were far too valuable, and I wouldn't want to be greedy.

I couldn't decide what Pokémon to pick. I wandered around the Haven for a while but couldn't find anything that caught my eye. After 10 minutes of searching, I just dropped and laid on the grass.

I didn't even know what type of Pokémon I was looking for. I let out a deep sigh before rolling to my side in the grass.

I gazed forward into the haven. Why wasn't there anything I wanted.

I guess I'll just return the Pokeball to Mr. Marsh and say nothing interested me.

I begrudgingly got up from my grassy bed and walked back to the house. But as I was walking, I noticed a new Pokémon. One that I hadn't seen in the Haven before.

Interesting...

...

I had made it back to the Marshs' house when I was greeted by Ameer.

"So, finally made your choice, huh?" Ameer said with a smile.

"Yep" I tossed up the Pokeball in my hand.

"Let me guess, you picked a Abra?"

"nope"

"Nidoran?"

"no"

Ameer started to get frustrated.

"Dratini?"

"Negative"

"Magikarp?"

"Alright enough guessing." I chuckled as I held out my Pokeball.

"Enough showing off, just release it already."

I chuckled as I released the Pokémon from it's Ball.

Click

"Really?" Ameer said confused

"Yep, I picked a Smeargle."
