Chapter 8: Woman in White Part 5
After Dean saw he had been spotted by the person that worked behind the motel desk who was talking to Deputy Hein and Deputy Jaffe he called Sam to let him know. He told him to find their dad. They were the same deputies that they ran into on that bridge who found out him and his partners were not who they said they were and were using fake credit cards.
While in police custody, he did what he did best and deceived the sheriff who was interrogating him by telling jokes after each question or statement said. That only served to piss the sheriff off more. He even lies about the possible coordinates in the journal that his dad goes nowhere without that the sheriff found that read DEAN-3511 in his dad's handwriting telling him it is his high school locker combo. It actually meant his dad was no longer in the town of Jericho anymore.
Just as the deputy repeats his question about what it means another deputy leans into the room and tells the sheriff shots were fired at Whiteford Road according to a 911 call. The deputy that told the sheriff that was a remarkably familiar face and had Dean struggling to keep a straight face as to not give away he knew the person. It was his father, John Winchester. The sheriff leaves but not before handcuffing Dean to the table.
John comes closer to Dean after telling the sheriff he will catch up with him and picked up the journal and takes the paper clip that was poking out the journal. He begins to use it on the handcuffs attached to Dean as a lock pick, but Dean's question stops him.
"Why are you here?"
"I work here," he responded as he held up his journal. "And this journal was put in a place that they would find on purpose to throw them off a little since I knew you would get in trouble."
"After what happened back at the motel, I thought you wanted nothing to do with your grandkid or me for that matter. I thought I was a disappointment in your eyes. I thought-"
"Let me talk, you listen," he interrupted his son as he was working on the cuffs before continuing to speak again. "I said some pretty bad stuff back there I am not too proud of. I am deeply sorry for what I said and whatever you are thinking it is not true. I love you son, and I am sure I will love this kid even more."
When John got the cuffs unlocked, Dean rubbed his wrist and wiped his teary eyes and then stood up as his father got up and hugged him. When they parted from the hug Dean wiped his eyes of the tears that began to fall.
"Okay now, you have to go and please stop crying."
"I cannot help it. Where will you be?"
"Around, but don't worry you'll see me again someday," he responded holding up his phone. "You still have the same number, right?"
"Yeah, why?"
"I will track your phone to know where you are to find you, or I will call you to find out. Now go before I get in trouble! Take the journal too."
A few moments later Dean finds himself shimmying down the fire escape, his dad's journal in tow.
Sam and Jessica were on the road after sharing a shower together and interviewing Joseph Welch after Sam got a call from Dean saying he'd been spotted, and they needed to take off now. They were just on the road for a few minutes heading to Breckenridge Road when an unknown phone number called Sam. He turned to Jessica and whispered that it was his brother after he picked up. Apparently, Dean's phone was also confiscated so he made do with a phone booth. Jessica only hears parts of the conversation since Sam didn't put the phone on speaker.
"You're welcome," Sam grins. "Tell me about it. So the husband was unfaithful. We are dealing with a woman in white. And she's buried behind her old house, so that should have been Dad's next stop... I just can't figure out why Dad hasn't destroyed the corpse yet... What? How do you know?... He doesn't go anywhere without that thing... What's it say?... Coordinates. Where to?... I don't understand. I mean, what could be so important that Dad would just skip out in the middle of a job. Dean, what the hell is going on-"
There is a scream on the other end that sounds like Jessica, and it sounds like the phone had been dropped to Dean's ears.
"Sam? Sam!" he yells as he hears an unfamiliar voice say, 'take me home.' "That's it, I'm coming where they are."
When he arrives at the scene, he sees Constance leaning over Sam with Jessica trying to stop her. Her hand is reaching into Sam's chest and would have done more harm to him if Dean did not keep firing gunshot after gunshot until she disappeared for the time being.
Sam suddenly set up and threw the car into drive mode, heading right into the house making a complete wreckage, with Dean yelling their names. He stumbles into the wreckage to get to them and helps Sam out the car as Jessica stumbles from the car crying as she throws her arms around Sam and tells him she was so scared. Sam tries comforting her while looking up at his brother and mouths thank you to which Dean just nods his head.
Behind them from a few feet away, Constance reappears and picks up a large, framed photo of her posing with her presumed to be children, a boy and girl. As Dean closes the car door, Sam sees Constance look up and he pushes Dean out of the way as an old looking bureau pins him and Jessica to the car. Constance seeing what happened lifts her hand to do damage to Dean, but she freezes when the light flickers. Water starts to pour down the staircase and she goes over to the staircase and looks up to discover her two children from the photograph are standing at the top holding hands.
"You've come home to us, Mommy," was heard before the children are seen behind her embracing her tightly and she begins to scream as they all melt into a puddle on the floor.
Sam and Jessica move the bureau from them and go over to look at the spot that the three vanished to. Dean gets up off the floor from where he landed when Sam pushed him away and joins them.
"You guys weren't kidding when you said you hunt ghosts for a living," said Jessica wistfully still starstruck by everything that just happened.
"No, we weren't," Dean responded before looking down at the spot they all were looking. "So this is where she drowned her kids."
Sam nods. "That's why she could never go home. She was too scared to face them."
"You found her weak spot. Nice work Sammy," Dean said as he slapped Sam on the chest where he was injured as he walks past him, and Sam winced but laughed through the pain. "By the way that was a nice move back there, pushing me out the way. Already protecting the kid and it's not even here yet. How did you know that was coming?"
"Call it a sixth sense. What were you thinking shooting Casper in the face, you freak?"
"Hey. Saved your ass," Dean said as he leans over to look at his car. "I'll tell you another thing. If you screwed up my car, I'll kill you."
"For goodness' sake, it's just a car," Jessica pipes up as she leans down too to inspect the car like Dean is. "Whose right headlight has shattered. It just needs replacing."
"Just a car? Just a car? That car is my life, it's my baby! I'll show you it's just a car," Dean reaches out and puts her in a headlock and tickles her side with his other hand. "Say my car is the best car out there and I'll let you go."
An airy laugh sounded in the house as Dean tickled her mercilessly. "No Dean...stop...ahahaha...Stop!"
"Say it!"
"Never...hahaha...quit it...okay, okay... Uncle! I give."
Sam is heard in the background laughing at their antics. "Quit it Dean before she wets herself."
Dean pretends to not hear Sam as he continues his torture on Jessica. "Say it, baby girl."
"Okay...ahahaha... Your car is the best car out there."
Dean lets her go but not before reaching out again, but Jessica sidesteps him still laughing. Sam just laughs at them as they get in the car and hit the road yet again.
