Chapter 14: Superhero
Me, Horikita, and Sakura made our way out of AN without saying a single word to each other. I mean what was there to say? After the result of the Trial, that being the confession of Chairman Sakayanagi, everything was crystal clear. The Chairman didn't leave us with any answers, only a lingering sense of regret, at least for me anyway.
'But you don't have to answer that because no matter how much I beg and regret my life choices my career has been without a shadow of a doubt irrevocably obliterated! All thanks to a kid who couldn't just let his friend's brother rot in prison for the pathetic excuse of space he and the rest of his family are!' His words had been engraved onto my very soul. The Chairman was definitely a hypocrite through and through for believing that people deserved to suffer because he had.
However, I didn't want things to turn out like this. All I wanted was for him to face justice. But in the end, he's suffering in a hospital now, without even having a chance to regret his actions. To make matters worse, Arisu saw the entire confession with her own eyes. The words he called her… I don't even know how one man could be so cruel to his own daughter. I didn't even like Arisu, but I can't help but feel sorry for her.
Then there's the fact that man said so many horrible things about Horikita and her family. I didn't even know her father had passed away. What can I say comfort her after experiencing all of that verbal and physical abuse? I don't know… and I feel utterly pathetic for not knowing what to do. I just kept silent and walked with her until we reached the school's entrance. And then…
"… Midoriya." Horikita's spoke my name as my eyes went wide as I looked at her, but she was avoiding looking at me and stared at the ground. There was still red mark left by the Chairman after he strangled her. As for her voice it wasn't her usual confident way of speaking, but a melancholic tone that made it clear that she wasn't okay after what had happened. I wanted to say something, but my mind couldn't think of any words that would cheer her up, so she beat me to the punch.
"I'm really thankful for what you did today. I've never met someone… anyone who would go so far to help me out. Thank you for that and keeping your word about proving my brother's innocence. You're a good friend, you know that? … But… I need to be alone for the rest of the day. Tomorrow, I'll be fine, really. So… see you at school tomorrow." Horikita admitted before walking away from me. I tried reaching out to her, but my hand went back down as I bawled up my hand into a fist out of regret for not being able to truly help when she needed it.
It didn't take long for her to vanish from the scene as I was left there alone with what was undoubtably a face full of lament. But I wasn't alone. Which was made clear to me by the person next to me as she grabbed my hand and began pulling me along with her. I was surprised. I didn't know what else to say but-
"S-Sakura?" I muttered weakly as she looked back at me with a nervous look on her face before pointing at something in the distance. It was the direction of where the student's apartment buildings were located.
"You want me to walk you home?" I asked as she looked at the ground out of embarrassment before nodding a few times in affirmation. It was then that a small smile returned to my face as even I couldn't screw something up like walking someone home.
"Ok. Just lead the way." I replied as I walked with Sakura while holding hands. Along the way to her place we passed many places, such as department stores and fancy restaurants. There was even a movie theater, that I hadn't noticed even once in these three short but eventful months that I spent as a student at AN. Maybe, we should catch a movie to take our minds off of more depressing things.
"Saku-ah. You want to go in there?" I asked as I looked at Sakura who was pointing at one of the many school stores in the vicinity before she nodded in affirmation to my question. We then noticed that we were both still holding hands even though roughly twenty minutes had passed since we left the school together.
"AH! I-I-I'm sorry!" I gasped before stuttering and yelling out as my eyes bulged out while waving my hands around out of embarrassment! Sakura's reaction was similar to mine as the both of us were blushing bright red like tomatoes. This lasted for a few seconds until-
"Um! I'll be right back!" Sakura shouted before running into the school store faster than I could blink! Jeez! How did it take me so long to notice that!?
"Haah… whatever… I guess I'll check out what they're showing at the theater in the meantime. After all, it's conveniently right next to the school store so I might as well go over there instead of the alternative being standing around like a creep in front of the school store while Sakura shops for something. It's not like we're dating so I'd definitely look suspicious just standing outside looking at her. Well, at least things can't possibly get any worse." I unintentionally muttered while not noticing people looking at me like I was a crazy person for talking to myself.
It didn't take me long to find the huge sign above the ticket booth. The sign read 'NOW SHOWING: Detective Conan: The Bride of Halloween, What to Do with the Dead Kaiju? Shin Ultraman, and Ox-Head Village.' These were just a few of them. There were several others I didn't recognize. I had heard of Detective Conan sometime during these three months, but I was clueless about the rest. However, I didn't want to ask Sakura to see a horror movie with me. (Three of these certainly had horror elements to them.) So, I guess maybe Shin Ultraman? But just as I thought that-
"Huh? What's this one?" I muttered to myself with a look of curiosity while noticing one of the several movie posters they had around the theater's entrance. I read the title to myself. 'Dawn of The Seven.' And it looks like a superhero movie! I want to see this! (He had no clue that Shin Ultraman was also a superhero movie.)
Oddly enough all of these movies never came out in my old world. I mean maybe it makes sense. This world isn't the one I grew up in. After all, 'Quirks' don't exist here. Or at least they shouldn't but that Doctor without a shadow of a doubt had a role to play in making them a thing here. But even still, I missed not seeing any of the movies that I loved watching. Such as the collection of All Might movies. I especially loved the one where he fought Toxic Chainsaw. I remember watching their fight like a hundred times one summer to the point my mom worried about me.
"Hahaha." I chuckled to myself while reminiscing about the good old days, when everything was much simpler. Sure, growing up wasn't all rainbows and sunshine, I was bullied day after day by Kacchan and his friends. But even still, days where I could just sit back, relax, and watch a movie felt nice. You know I really should invite Sakura to see a movie with me. But just as I was thinking about her-
'Bzzt!' My phone vibrated in my pocket as I grabbed it out and turned on the screen to see that she sent me a message. I was surprised to see it until I remembered that me and the rest of my classmates in Class D exchanged phone numbers with each other. Though it's not like any of us texted each other that much. Now that I think about it, I think I only received texts from Horikita, Hirata, and Kushida. Which meant that this was the first text that I received from her. I clicked on the message while wondering what Sakura sent me.
'Was she already done shopping?' I thought internally with what was surely a curious look on my face. But just as I was thinking about that-
'Midoriya! The store clerk! He's following me around! I even left the store but he's still walking behind me! Come quick!' Sakura's text read as my eyes went wide as I bolted away from the movie theater!
'Crap! I'm such an idiot for leaving the school store! I didn't even think that anything would have happened to Sakura while I was minding my own business! I should have been watching her! Even if people thought I was some creep! Quick! I got make it in time before something else happens!' I thought internally while rushing back to the school store while carelessly bumping into other students who shouted, 'Watch it!' In response to my recklessness. But I didn't care! I had to make it in time! Come on you Quirkless nobody! Be there for someone when it really counts damn it! But just as I was making my way back to the school store-
"KYAAAAAAAH!" I heard a high-pitched scream! Without a shadow of a doubt, it was Sakura's voice! It came from the alleyway to the right of the school store! If someone laid a hand on her, I'm going to-
'Do you wish to obliterate him?' The voice of Jokata asked within my mind once more as I wanted nothing more than to scream 'Shut up! Damn it!' For being so persistent about his 'obliterating nonsense!' But just as I was distracted because of hearing the voice of that guy again-
'BOOOOOOOOOM!' The school store was destroyed as the building completely crumbled to pieces! It was like a bomb had gone off! Everyone in the vicinity noticed and looked in the direction of the ear-piercing sound. And in that direction was something that I had never thought I would see again in my lifetime-
"Hahaha! Did you really think you'd avoid me for long Shizuku! Or should I call you by your real name Sakura Airi! HAHAHA!" The voice of the store clerk that had been tailing Sakura laughed like a madman as he was in clear view to me and everyone else. But he didn't appear to be a normal store clerk anymore. In his place was something utterly nonhuman. I had already recognized it. I shouldn't have! It shouldn't be there! But somehow it is! How can-
'T-T-The sludge monster?!' I thought internally as I covered my mouth while staring at none other than the first villain that I had encountered in my entire life! It was none other than the monster that I encountered on my way home from school one day that tried to take over my body. One thing led to another but for better or worse I caught the attention of All Might that day and began my path toward becoming a hero. That fateful day where everything had changed for me had long since passed. So why!? Just…
… WHY THE HELL IS THAT 'THING' HERE?!
"AAAAAAAAAAH! W-WHAT THE HELL IS THAT THING?!" Someone yelled out as the top of their lungs while backing away from the monstrosity with tears in their eyes as it smiled back at them in a menacing way.
"That can't be real, right?! Someone has to be shooting some movie here and that thing is just some animatronic!" Another person yelled out of disbelief.
"Are you blind?! There's nothing mechanical about that thing! This is so fucked! I'm getting the hell out of here!" Yet another person screamed before running away. After that, countless people joined the person and ran away! But not before-
"HAHAHA! This power is AMAZING! That store I worked at is fucking wreaked! I wonder what else I can do with power?! How about I go on a test-drive…" The Sludge Monster spoke before pausing for a second as they noticed me. Ant then…
"… AND KILL SOME SNOT NOSED BRATS!" The Sludge Monster declared with a shout that pierced my ears as it sent its fist hurtling at me! If it hit me, it would definitely cause more damage than some broken bones! I'll die! No doubt about it! That's why before that-
'WHOOOOOSH!' Oh crap! I have to dodge out of the way! But just as I realized that I then leaped into the air as I narrowly avoided being killed by the Sludge Monster's fist! The Sludge Monster noticed this and clicked its tongue. Or I think it did because I heard a 'tch.' But unbeknownst to me someone was watching this all unfold from the safety of their hidden lair! It was-
"HAHAHA! Marvelous! Simply MARVELOUS! To think what you saw was right on the money! AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!" The Doctor, Kyudai Garaki laughed hysterically as his eyes were locked to the screen of one of his countless monitors that was showcasing what was going on just outside the school store, or what used to be it as there was nothing more but rubble in its place. But he wasn't alone, the same 'mystery man' was with him! (The same guy who forced Daichi to look at the Nomus.)
But it was just as the Doctor said. His 'ally' had seen the future with a Quirk specialized in doing so. This Quirk had belonged to Sir Nighteye and its name was Foresight! Foresight has the ability to see a person's future! It was not limited by time as the user can see the future of a person many years later in said person's life! The conditions to activate this were for the user to see the person and touch them! After that they would see a slideshow of a person's future like a filmstrip!
How did this happen? To explain the mystery man who allied himself with the Doctor had sent been sent on several 'missions' by the Doctor to gather intel on specific students. It was simply by chance, that him and the store clerk had crossed paths and bumped into each other!
"Hey! Watch it!" The Store Clerk yelled out as they accidentally bumped into each other. But in a brief timespan that lasted no longer than a second the mystery man had seen the future of the Store Clerk! That future being an inevitable confrontation between the clerk and Sakura that would almost end in an incident of sexual assault! However, he would be arrested by the authorities before he would be able to have done anything unforgiveable to her.
However, the mystery man didn't think all that much of it. That was until Izuku Midoriya encountered Sakura this morning. Something that was seen through the security cameras! Which Garaki (And as a result of working with him, the mystery man too) had access too! Not only that but today was the day that Sakura and the store clerk would cross paths! That is when an idea hatched within the mystery man's mind. Something that he would later act on by making sure that the Store Clerk would inherit a Quirk through means that only 'he' was able to accomplish. The Doctor was impressed and let his ally do this. But as for the mystery man-
"What a coward. Is that person really 'Izuku Midoriya?' I expected someone more heroic from what you told me about him, Doctor." The mystery man commented as he noticed Midoriya run into a nearby alleyway and leaving the people around him to fend for themselves. The Doctor noticed this and chuckled to himself before replying.
"Don't misunderstand. I know exactly what he's trying to do. He's going to suit up. After all, no one can know that Izuku Midoriya is actually a superhero! That's why he needs to take cover away from prying eyes so that no one finds out his secret! Well played, Izuku Midoriya… but do you really think putting on some costume will be enough to beat someone with a far better Quirk than you have?" Doctor Garaki replied to the mystery man before turning his attention back onto Izuku Midoriya or at least the alleyway he went in! (Because there happened to be no cameras to speak of there.)
'Phew! Thank God there's no cameras here!' I thought internally before taking my school uniform off as I had a green tracksuit hidden underneath it! I then opened my backpack and grabbed out a mask and a set of red shoes to complete my change into my hero outfit! (The red shoes were so that no one would notice that the person in the costume and me shared the same choice of shoes, that and I liked these shoes quite a bit. After all, I used to wear them all the time back in UA.)
'But there's no time left for reflecting on the past! I can't let anyone get hurt! No, ever since that day I made a vow!' I thought internally until-
'… So, you know what? … I'm going to be a hero here. Yeah. I've already decided. This world just like any other has people in it who need to be protected at all costs. That's why I'm going to be a hero in a world where there are no heroes.' That's the vow I made on the night when everything had changed for me once more! So, of course I'm going to live up to it! After all…
… I'M THE HERO DEKU!
I then made my way out of the alleyway and back onto the street where the Sludge Monster was as it was about to attack some students before noticing me. But he wasn't the only one who noticed my sudden change in appearance.
"GYAHAHAHAHA! Well, look at that! It's his original costume! Oh, how nostalgic!" Doctor Garaki commented upon seeing Midoriya exit the alleyway while wearing a green full body jumpsuit with red accents, including a belt, elbow pads, knee pads, and gloves! Along with the mask that was modeled off of All Might's face! It was as the Doctor said! This was the exact same costume that Izuku Midoriya wore when first starting out in the hero course at UA!
'Man. It's been a long time since I wore this.' I thought internally. To be fair it wasn't the same exact outfit. (I had to buy the supplies at the local military and department stores that sold the items I needed. Which was the 'other' thing I was doing yesterday. *Chapter 12) That had been destroyed by Kacchan a long time ago. Ever since then my costume had gone through several developments, and I barely wore a mask anymore. But even though it's not the same, I chose to go with this look. Not to just to hide my identity. But also, because…
… 'I made this for you! Doesn't it look great, Izuku!' My mom made this costume for me. Sure, I personally designed it way before I met All Might in person. Even still, she spent time making it for me. For that reason, I love this costume. And if this world has no All Might or any other superheroes to speak of…
… I'll be the superhero it deserves! I'll be what All Might was in my old world and protect this new one from any dastardly villain that threatens the innocent!
"And just who the hell do you think you are, boy?" The Sludge Monster asked as it most certainly had a sinister grin on its face beneath all that sludge! But I stood firmly as I took a combat stance as I was already prepared to fight that monster! But before that I had to reply with-
"I'm a superhero! So, everyone have no fear! Because… I AM HERE!" I announced with the most mature voice I could muster so that people wouldn't realize that my voice and the voice of the superhero were one and the same. Everyone around me was taken aback at my sudden appearance.
"Oh, maybe they are filming a movie? Why else would someone dressed up come out of nowhere?" Someone commented.
'Hey.'
"No, I don't think so! I don't recognize that superhero in the slightest! He clearly isn't anyone from The Seven! Unless he's some indie superhero?" Another person commented.
'Hey!'
"Hey Mr. Superhero! You got a name?" Someone asked as people stopped running and came back in droves as they agreed with the person by chanting 'Tell us your name!'
'HEY!'
"What are all of you doing just standing here?! Get away before that thing attacks!" I yelled out with a mix of confusion and anger. I honestly had no clue why they would be thinking this was for some movie! I mean who the heck are The Seven?!
"I'VE HAD ENOUGH OF BEING IGNORED! I'M GOING TO FUCKING KILL ALL OF YOU! UNLESS YOU ACTUALLY THINK YOU CAN STOP ME?! GO ON AND TRY IT, HERO!" The Sludge Monster shouted at the top of its lungs before sending its fist hurtling toward me once more! Everything went in slow motion as everything slowed down to a crawl. And then…
CRACK! CRACK! CRACK!' The ground began cracking below me as green sparks of energy began circling around me! But it wasn't because of the Sludge Monster! No this was all me. I was activating my Quirk Obliterator for the very first time!
"YES! I've been waiting so long for this!" Doctor Garaki yelled out while watching me from the edge of his seat. He had given Midoriya the Quirk Obliterator with the sole reason of knowing that it would be the hero's downfall! After all, Obliterator is a Quirk that ends up destroying the user's mind if they use its full power too frequently! The Doctor knew this and was waiting for Izuku to use it knowing full well that he would destroy himself if it meant bringing an end to this monster! After all, it's what a hero would do!
His 'ally' had an unamused look on his face as he declared internally 'This is the end. What a shame.' As he knew all of this from what the Doctor had told him about Obliterator. The mystery man was convinced that things would go as his Master said they would and that the young man named Izuku Midoriya would soon be no more. Of course, the latter of which knew this fact. But even still he-
'No! There has to be another way! This guy isn't all that tough! I shouldn't have to use Obliterator's full power on him! I… I don't want to die! Damn it! If only I could just obliterate his Quirk!' I thought internally as I would have no chance of dodging this blow. I would have to use my Quirk's power to defeat him. But I don't know how to use it! It will be just like the first time I used One For All! I'll use its full power and my brain will be mashed potatoes! But even still I can't let it end this way! I was just starting to really enjoy my new life! I can't let things en-
'Destroy his Quirk? Yeah. You can do that.' The voice of Jokata admitted as I heard his voice inside my head once more. But he didn't say his usual 'Do you wish to obliterate him?' Nonsense and instead said I can destroy a Quirk?! B-But how?! But more importantly-
'WHY THE HELL DIDN'T YOU TELL ME THIS BEFORE?!' I screamed internally with what was surely an agitated look on my face.
'BECAUSE YOU NEVER ASKED! NOW PUT YOUR HANDS ON THAT SLUDGE BEFORE HE KILLS YOU! DO IT NOW BEFORE ITS TOO LATE!' Jokata snapped back with a voice even louder than mine as I thought 'Screw it!' before placing my hands onto the Sludge Monster! And then…
'BAM!' The Sludge Monster's fist evaporated into nothing! Not even Sludge remained! There was quite literally nothing left of its fist!
"Huh? What? What is this?" Doctor Garaki said with a dumbfounded look on his face as he saw this through the monitor. Even his ally was speechless as he didn't see this coming! No! Even if he had used Foresight on Midoriya he'd never expected that THIS would be the result of how things turned out between the hero and the villain! They should have destroyed each other! That's what was supposed to happen! So how!? How can this be?! Just-
"WHAT'S HAPPENING TO ME?!" The Sludge Monster screamed out at the top of its lungs as the immense amount of sludge covering him began evaporating at an accelerated pace as it vanished almost as if it had never existed in the first place! This went on for a few more seconds until the Quirk was no more! I was genuinely surprised that I held the power to destroy Quirks. But not as surprised as-
"RRRRRRRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH! DAMN IT! DAMN IT! DAMN IT! DAMN IT! HOW THE FUCK IS THIS HAPPENING?! Doctor Garaki screamed at the top of his lungs as he bashed his head against the monitor showcasing the events until it broke! He couldn't believe it! From what the Doctor had observed, Obliterator only destroyed the user's body! It was deemed useless by All For One! But Garaki kept it for over a hundred years as he intended to use it on the person, he hated more than anyone else!
And that person was Izuku Midoriya! Sure, the Doctor would have enjoyed using it on the previous One For All users, specifically All Might if given the chance. But he wasn't. However, with All For One dead, Doctor Garaki saw this as the perfect opportunity to finally use Obliterator by transplanting the Quirk into Izuku's body knowing full well that it would spell his doom! Not knowing of Obliterator's true power! Even after studying it in secret for decades! That being-
'That's right. Obliterator's true power is to destroy other Quirks.' Jokata admitted within Izuku's mind as Midoriya stood there utterly speechless at what had just occurred as he could only watch in silence as the Store Clerk began to fall while the latter was in mid-air. But while this was occurring-
"GOD DAMN IT! ARGH! … You… go clean up your mess before that simpleton spills the beans!" Doctor Garaki screamed at the top of his lungs before calming himself down and barking orders at his ally. But to his utmost surprise, the mystery man was already way ahead of him.
"Oof!" The Store Clerk yelled out as he fell onto the concrete with a dumbfounded look on his face. But not only him! Sakura had also been released from the sludge! And she too was about to hit the ground! And she would have if it weren't for-
"I got you Sakura!" I instinctively shouted while catching her in my arms! Yes! I did it! I made it in time! The villain is defeated! I saved Sakura! Everything's going to be ok-
"… H-How?" Sakura asked with a confused look on her face as she stared at me like a deer in the headlights.
"… How… what?" I asked with what was undoubtably a clueless look on my face. I was genuinely confused. Everything's fine now, right? Just what has Sakura so-
"… How did you know my name?" Sakura asked as she tilted her head to the side with a nervous smile on her face as my eyes went wide. And then I-
'AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!' I screamed internally as I realized that I made the biggest mistake that I could make! By calling Sakura by her name, she'll figure out that I'm Izuku Midoriya! If that happens it will only be a matter of time until everyone knows I'm a superhero! I got to come up with something! QUICK!
"I… um… that's it! I called you Sakura because your hair is pink! Just like the Sakura flower! Forgive me if that's not your name I just couldn't help but be reminded by that beautiful flower! HAHAHAHA!" I replied as I proceeded to my best imitation of All Might's laugh. If my face was visible right now, then I'd most definitely be blushing as red as a tomato. After all-
'Why the heck did I pick something so cheesy and corny to say?!' I thought internally as I felt so embarrassed to the point that I wanted to die.
'Do you wish to obliterate yourself?' Jokata's voice asked with a face that definitely a smug smile. (Even though I couldn't see it, I just knew it.)
'Shut up.' I replied internally. (and thankfully not externally) Not long after that I heard footsteps approaching me as I looked behind me to see a police officer coming out of nowhere as he sprinted toward me! Wait a second…
'OH NO! HE'S RUNNING AWAY! HOW COULD I BE SO CARELESS?!' I screamed internally as my eyes bulged out as I noticed the Store Clerk running away from the scene of the crime!
"You fool! You're letting him get away! After I catch him, you're next!" The Police Officer yelled out as he chased the Store Clerk into an alleyway. It was then that I realized that I had to get out of dodge!
"Ok! I've got to go now! Make sure to not get attacked by anymore weirdos! Bye!" I yelled out before running away but before I could escape the vicinity-
"Hey! What's your name?!" Sakura yelled out as I was caught off guard since it was the first time she used her voice to yell that wasn't a 'KYAAAAH!' or a 'EEEP!' I then turned around to face her from several meters away. And then…
"I'm the hero Deku. Remember it." I replied with a smile on my face as I made sure that my voice was loud enough so that only she could hear it. I then turned around once more before making my exit!
"… Deku." Sakura muttered as she clutched her chest while her heart was beating like crazy. But not long after that-
"Hey Sakura! What did I miss?" I asked with what was surely a clueless look on my face as I closed my eyes. Though I heard Sakura go 'EEEEEP!' I also heard the people around me say 'How could he miss that?' And 'Is he an idiot?' As well as other hurtful things that weren't worth mentioning as my self-esteem wasn't all that high to begin with.
"Well- I then listened to Sakura as she explained the situation to me. I made sure to respond accordingly so that she (and no one else for that matter) Would be suspicious of me. But once she was down explaining-
"That sounds rough. Sakura, I know you must not be doing all that great after… you know. But I feel the same. So, um, want to take our mind off things and watch a movie together?" I asked with a nervous smile on my face. Sakura showcased her surprise immediately as she pointed at herself a bunch of times while I nodded in affirmation. And then…
"S-Sure. I-I wouldn't mind going to see a movie with you, MidoriYAH!" Sakura spoke meekly before I began pulling her hand which resulted in her squealing at the end.
"Great! Let's go!" I replied with a smile as I walked with her to the movie theater. Though since I was looking at the movie theater and not behind me, I didn't notice her smile to herself and nodded in approval while blushing. This day had been eventful in more ways than one, but after all of that, I think me, and Sakura deserve a break. At least that's what I thought at the time. But unbeknownst to me, I wasn't prepared for the truth that I was about to learn by watching a movie that I assumed was about fictional superheroes. And even worse…
…. I had let another tragedy occur due to my own carelessness-
"He went this way! Quick! After him!" A police officer yelled out as he and his fellow officers ran into an alleyway, the same one that the Store Clerk had ran into. However, this wasn't the same police officer. And to their utmost horror-
"H-H-He's de- One of the police officers spoke out of an overwhelming sense of fear only to be interrupted before he could finish by one of the other officers placing a hand on his mouth.
"Quiet! We can't let any of the civilians see this!" A different officer whispered into the ear of the officer that was speaking before him. However, it wasn't as if they would be able to keep this a secret for long. But for now, they had to at least not let anyone see this gruesome display. Especially, not one of the students, because the Store Clerk…
