Chapter 3

Sam stepped into the grocery store and pulled a buggy from the row before proceeding into the store. He paused long enough to dig his list out and decide where to start. He had grouped the items together by department so he could go down the list in an orderly manner. Sam shook his head for a moment when he thought about the snide remarks Dean would make about his OCD.

He pushed the buggy through the fruits and vegetables department, carefully picking out produce that looked the best. From there he went to the drinks section deciding to grab a case of bottled water since it was on sale. He found Dean's favorite Gatorade flavor and added them to the buggy. He stood in front of the protein drinks trying to decide what flavor Dean might like the best and got some.

The soup was easy since they only bought chicken and rice, chicken noodle, and tomato. Hamburger, chicken, and pork roast were selected, along with some bacon and hot dogs. He stepped to the dairy section and got cheese, eggs, and yogurt. Sam added other items along the way as he headed for the health and beauty department to replace items he had used up.

The last place Sam stopped at was the books and magazine section, glancing over what they had before picking a book and crossword puzzle book. He gave the cart one last look and checked his list before heading for the front to check out.

The yawn couldn't be suppressed as he waited in line to check out. He was still tired and wiped a hand down his face as he moved forward and began to unload his buggy. It didn't take him long to check out and pushed the buggy out the door to the Impala to put the bags in the trunk. Once he pushed the buggy to a drop off, he got in the car and headed for the bakery to pick up a pie for Dean. He thought he'd pick up a couple of bear claws for Bobby, since they were his favorite and maybe indulge and get a couple of muffins for himself.

The bakery was busy, and Sam had to wait for a few minutes before being served. He placed his order and paid for it. When he was back in the car, Sam munched on a doughnut and sipped a cup of coffee sighing happily. The bakery was a popular spot for the locals because of the delicious treats.

Bobby looked toward the ceiling when he heard the floorboards creak, and something fall. He got up, picking the pill bottle up to go check on Dean. It was almost time for his next dose of medicine, and he was going to go ahead and give it to him.

"Dean, you okay?" Bobby called through the bathroom door when he saw the bedroom empty.

"I'm fine," a weak voice replied.

"It's time for more medicine."

"Okay. Be out in a minute."

Bobby stepped into the bedroom and looked at Dean's bed with the wadded sheets and blankets. He shook his head while he mumbled under his breath as he straightened the bed.

"You look like crap," Bobby commented as Dean shuffled back into the room like a little old man.

"I feel it too," Dean replied in a raspy voice. He eased onto the bed and carefully laid back down, being careful of his bruised ribs and back.

"Here you go," Bobby offered shaking out a couple of pills. "The best thing you can do is take your medication and rest."

Dean slipped the pills into his mouth and sipped enough water to wash them down. His head was still pounding and moving around made it worse.

"Sounds good to me…" he mumbled before shutting his mind down and letting himself drift away into the mist.

Bobby laid a calloused hand on his forehead to feel for any temperature and thought he felt a little warm. He made sure Dean was covered good and turned off the lamp by the bed. The curtains were shut casting the room into shadows.

"I'll check on you later," Bobby told Dean.

"'kay," Dean whispered, not opening his eyes.

Bobby left the room and headed back downstairs to finish his research for a hunter. He went into the kitchen for a cup of coffee before heading back to his office. He pulled several books from a shelf and started looking for some reference material. By the time he was finished with the research, he heard the engine of the Impala pull up beside the house. Getting up, Bobby headed for the door to help Sam. Before he made it out of the office, his phone began to ring.

"Singer Salvage," he greeted the caller.

"Bobby Singer, Jody Mills," Sheriff Mills said.

"Sheriff Mills, Jody, how are things?"

"I'm not sure. I've got several missing person cases in the past couple of weeks and well, I think they might be something you should check out."

"What makes you think that?"

"Something just doesn't feel right about them. I can't put my finger on it, but I was hoping you could check them out to be sure it's not some monster that's rode into Sioux Falls."

"Of course. I'll be happy to help. I'll bring Sam with me."

"So, the Winchester brothers are visiting?"

"Yes, they came in last night. Dean was injured on their last hunt and is recuperating."

"I hope it's not serious?"

"Naw, he just needs some downtime to heal."

"Any help you and Sam can give me would be great."

"He just got back from town. Why don't you email me what you have, and we'll get started on it."

"I can do that. Thanks Bobby And keep me updated if you find anything. "

"Anytime Jody. We'll get back to you if we find anything."

"Bye Bobby."

Bobby hung up the phone and watched Sam pass by the doorway with bags in his hands. He got up and joined him in the kitchen to relay the request.

"Just got off the phone with Jody Mills," Bobby started as he helped unload the bags and put things away.

"How's she doing?" Sam asked as he put things in the fridge.

"She wants some help with a couple of missing person cases. She thinks it might be our kind of thing."

"Really? Here in Sioux Falls?"

"Looks like it. Jody's sending the information over shortly. I told her we'd help."

"Sure, no problem. Did Dean take his medicine?"

"Yes and went back to sleep."

"Oh, I stopped by the bakery and got a pie for Dean in hopes of bribing him to stay in bed and a couple of bear claws for you since I know you like them."

"Why thank you Sam. It was thoughtful of you to remember that. I'll enjoy them with a fresh cup of coffee later."

"Wasn't nothing," Sam said shyly giving him a small smile.

"I'll be in the office checking to see if Jody has sent the files if you need me."

"Okay, I'll join you in a bit. Let me get the last of the bags and I'll go check on Dean and take him some Gatorade."

Sam disappeared back outside and returned with the last of the bags. He put Gatorade, protein drinks, and some bottles of water in the fridge to get cold. After getting out the ice tray, he found an insulated cup to use. He poured the drink over the ice and headed upstairs to check on his brother.

"Hey bro, brought you something to drink," Sam cooed to his brother to wake him. "You should drink something."

Dean grunted and frowned as he pried his eyes open enough to stare bleary eyed at Sam. A straw was pressed to his lips, and he sipped some Gatorade before turning away and going back to sleep.

"I'll check on you later and bring you some soup," Sam told him before getting up and leaving Dean to sleep. He was anxious to see what Jody had sent them and wondered what evil could have come to Sioux Falls.

A/N: What monster could have come to Sioux Falls? Thank you for coming on this journey with me. I do like reviews/comments. NC
