Halloween Special: Trick or Treat

Laura & Robert were waiting at bottom of the stairs in their house. Laura was holding Toby. All three of them were wearing costumes. Robert was dress as Sherlock Holmes (look up "Sherlock Holmes (All-Consuming Fire)" by "PaulHanley" on "Deviantart"), Laura was dressed as a Victorian Lady (look up "Victorian Lady" by "Lanfirka" on "Deviantart"), & Toby was a bumblebee. Robert was also holding a camera*
Laura: Abby, are you ready? We're going to be late for the Halloween fair.
Abigail*off-screen* Just about. Get ready to be amazed.
She appeared at the top of the stairs wearing a tattered veil is attached to a rose crown made of dead blue roses, a long black glove with arm bones printed on her left arm, tattered fingerless gloves that end to her elbows, a strapless dirt stained wedding dress which has a form fitting bodice that ends in a deep V in the front & a long flowing pleated skirt with a rip up in the middle showing either of her legs, a long black sock with leg bones printed on her right leg, white high heels, & holding a bouquet of blue fake roses (look up "Corpse Bride: Emily" by "Kairime" on "Deviantart"). Huck was flying next to her dress as a butterfly*
(Abigail's POV)
I walked down the stairs like I was walking down a runway. Mom & Toby looked amazed, while Dad looked confused*
Laura: Oh, sweetheart, you look wonderful! And Huck, you look adorable.
Toby: Aba! Aba!
Abigail: Thanks.
Huckleberry: Chao.
We all turned to my Dad, who was still trying to wrap his head around my costume*
Robert: Uh . . . I thought you said you were going as a zombie.
Abigail*groan* I am. I'm a Zombie Bride.
Suddenly, he looked like he was about to have a heart attack*
Robert: B - B - B - B - BRIDE!?
Laura: Honey, relax. It's Halloween, remember. She's just wearing a costume for the fair.
Dad calmed down*
Robert: Right, right. Forgot there for a moment.
All: Sure you did.
Huckleberry: Chao.
DING-DONG!
Abigail: I'll get it.
I opened the door & saw Sasha, Rory, Snaggle, Cream, Cheese, & Rosie outside. Rory was a cowboy, Snaggle was an astronaut, Sasha was a ballerina, Cream was Little Red Riding Hood (look up "Little Red Riding Hood and the Werehog" by "FinikArt" on "Deviantart"), Cheese was a pumpkin*
Sasha, Rory, Snaggle, & Cream: Trick-or-treat!
Cheese: Chao-Chao!
Abigail: Hey, everyone. Great costumes. Hi, Rosie.
Rosie: Hello, dear.
I gave everyone a bit of candy each*
Abigail: So, are you guys going to the Halloween fair?
Rory: You bet! We just wanted to do some trick-or-treating first.
Suddenly, the Plus Ultra Squad appeared behind everyone. They were dressed as a knight (look up "Knight 4" by "umbatman" on "Deviantart"), a mad scientist (look up "Commission : Mad Scientist" by "EmptyShadow" on "Deviantart"), & a boxer (look up "Jacob Holland as a Boxer" by "IzIzIza" on "Deviantart"). Zeke & Mason we're holding trick-or-treat bags while Nathan just looked bored*
Mason: Enough chit-chat! Time is candy!
Zeke: Yeah, so full em up!
Everyone gave them weird looks*
Robert: Uh . . . Aren't you boys a little old for this?
Mason: Too old for free candy. *dramatic gasp* Never!
Me, Nathan, & my parents rolled out eyes & Toby giggled while the boys each a bit of candy. I looked at Nathan, who leaned in close to me*
Nathan*whispering* Believe me, this is the last place I want to be right now. But I couldn't bring myself to say no to them.
(Flashback - Last Week - Third-Person POV)
*The Plus Ultra Squad was sitting at a table outside Uncle Chuck's Diner. Zeke had maps of New Mobotropolis & Knothole on the table*
Zeke: Okay, I've got a list of all the houses that just give full sized chocolate bars. We'll need our bikes, but I think the extra effort will be worth if we want to make it to the fair afterwards.
Mason: We'll need to avoid the taffy district and that neighborhood that gives out toothbrushes.
*Nathan noticed a table of girls behind him, whispering & giggling at them. He blushed in embarrassment*
Nathan: Uh . . . Guys, don't you think we're a little too old for trick-or-treat? Last year, some kid called me "sir."
Zeke: So? You command respect.
Nathan: I was dressed as a clown.
Mason: I believe you were a hobo.
Zeke: Don't forget, this tradition dates back to the beginning of our friendship.
Nathan: Since 2nd Grade . . .
Zeke: Ah, 2nd Grade. The year of the Three Musketeers.
Nathan: How could I forgot? Ok, guys. I'll go with you, but on one condition.
(Present Time - Abigail's POV)
Nathan*whispering* So, as you can see, I agreed to go with them, as supervision, not as a candy beggar.
Abigail*whispering* Gotcha.
Zeke suddenly gave me a flirtatious smirk*
Zeke: Hey, Abby. You know, if you're looking for a partner for the Couple's Costume Contest at the fair, I'd be happy to -
I didn't let him finish as I gave Dad the candy bowl & walked away*
Abigail: Sorry, Zeke. But I'm already going with my boyfriend. But I'll see you guys at the fair!
Huckleberry: Chao-Chao!
Zeke looked stone-frozen as I ran off down the street*
Kids & Rosie: Bye, Abby!
Cheese: Chao-Chao!
(Third-Person POV)
Meanwhile, at Lacey's house, she was up in her room, getting her costume (look up "Megara" by "limegreenleaf" on "Deviantart") on*
(Lacey's POV)
I had just finished putting on my makeup when the Tweebs, my little brothers, barged into my room, wearing their costumes (red, blue, & green) (look up "MK ninjas-redesign sketches" by "xXLightsourceXx" on "Deviantart")*
Lacey: Johnny! Benny! Travis! That is not knocking!
Johnny: There's no Johnny, Benny, or Travis. There are only the Ninjas of Doom!
Then they jumped on my bed & swung their swords around*
Lacey: I'll doom you three if you don't get out of my room!
Benny knocked my lamp over as he jumped off my bed*
Benny: Come on, Lacey, let's go. It's time to go trick-or-treating.
Lacey: I don't do that anymore.
Johnny: But we always go.
Johnny, Benny, & Travis: Mom!
Just then, Mom walked by*
Jane: Boys, why are you yelling?
Lacey: They're just mad I'm too mature to take them trick-or-treating.
Jane: Too mature? But you've loved Halloween since you were a baby.
Lacey: Yeah, that's because it's for babys. *the Tweebs stuck their tongues out at me* Besides, I've already got plans. I'm going to the Halloween fair with my friends. Not to mention, Mighty and I are entered in the Couple's Costume Contest at the fair.
Jane: Oh, that's right. I almost forgot about that. Well, how about this, you and Mighty take the boys trick-or-treating while you go to the fair.
Lacey: Mom!
Jane: Or, you're staying here tonight.
The Tweebs smirked at me as they left with her. I scowled at them*
DING-DONG!
Peter*off-screen* Lacey! Your b - *then he sounded like he was trying to get a word out* boyfriend's here.
I rolled my eyes. Daddy was still in denial*
Lacey: Coming! *I ran downstairs & almost fainted when I saw Mighty in his costume (look up "Hercules - Heracles" by "666-Lucemon-666" on "Deviantart"), which made him look even more manly than usual* Now there's my hero!
I rushed into arms & gave him a hug*
Mighty: And there's my damsel. Not that you ever need actual saving.
Lacey: And don't you forget it, buster. *I started to push him out the door* Now let's get of here before -
Then Mighty noticed the Tweebs coming with their trick-or-treat bags*
Mighty: Hey, guys.
Johnny, Benny, & Travis: Hi, Mighty.
Lacey: . . . The monsters show up.
Then Mom showed up*
Jane: Oh, hello, Mighty.
Mighty: Hi, Mrs. Rabbit.
Jane: It was so wonderful of you and Lacey to take the boys trick-or-treating before you go to the fair. "Right, Lacey."
Lacey*sigh* Right. *Mighty looked at me, confused*whispering* If I don't do this, I'm not allowed to leave the house tonight.
Mighty*whispering* Gotcha. *put loud* Well, don't worry. I'll keep them all safe tonight.
Jane: I know you will. *we started to leave* You kids have fun.
Johnny, Benny, & Travis: Bye, Mom!
Lacey: Bye.
Peter: And remember!
Mighty: Home by 9:30. I remember, sir.
And we headed down the street, me hoping nobody from school sees me doing this*
(Abigail's POV)
I arrived at the fair & found my friends already there. Sonic & Sally were dressed as Jack Skellington & Sally (look up "Sonic and Sally /Cosplay as Jack and Sally/" by "yoshiyoshi700" on "Deviantart") from "The Nightmare Before Christmas" movie. Tails was a mummy (look up "Halloween 2020: Tails the little mummy" by "LeroyRoZwell" on Deviantart). Amy was a fairy (look up "-STH Little Fairy-" by "Biko97" on "Deviantart"). Bunnie & Antoine were dressed as Princess Aurora & Prince Philip (look up "Princess Aurora in Pink #6: Phillip" by "MermaidMelodyEdits" on "Deviantart") from the movie "Sleeping Beauty". Rotor was dressed as Frankenstein. Nicole was dressed as a Genie (look up "nicole lynx arabian" by "GoddessPrincessLulu" on "Deviantart"). And the Chaotix were dressed as a dragon, a Yōkai, a jack-o'-lantern (looked up "Trick or Treat: Team Chaotix" by "FinikArt" on "Deviantart"), a witch (Saffron) (look up "Witch child" by "Zhe-Venven" on "Deviantart"), & a WWI fighter pilot (Ray) (look up by on "Deviantart")*
Abigail: Hey, guys! Great costumes.
Tails: Thanks. Yours is pretty good too.
Abigail: Thanks. My Mom helped me with it.
Sonic: So, if you're going as that, what's Shadow going as? You guys do have to match for the contest, right?
Abigail: Oh, you'll see. It's too bad Knuckles and Julie-Su couldn't come tonight.
Vector: Well, you know Knux. Gotta protect the Master Emerald.
Abigail: True. But do you guys at least know if they're dressing up?
Charmy: Yep. They're dressing up as Vikings.
Saffron: And they decorated the whole shrine just for the trick-or-treaters.
Abigail: Cool. Speaking of costumes, where are Mighty and Lacey? They should've been here by now.
Note: The fair is in New Mobotropolis and Lacey and her brothers are going trick-or-treating in Knothole.
(Lacey's POV)
Mighty & I stood at the end of the pathway as we watched the Tweebs go up to another house to beg for candy. Travis rang the bell & a Mobian dressed as a ghost answered the door*
Johnny, Benny, & Travis: Trick-or-treat!
Mobian: Ooh, what fierce little ninjas. Here you go, boys.
He gave them each a bit of candy*
Johnny, Benny, & Travis: Thank you!
They ran up to us*
Johnny: Wow! Check out our haul! We've gotten a lot!
Lacey: Great. Good for you. You guys hit every house in the neighborhood. Can we go to the fair now?
Benny: Aw, come on. One more house? *with Johnny & Travis* Please?
All three of them gave me puppy dog eyes*
Mighty: One more house wouldn't hurt.
I looked at him & then at my brothers*
Lacey*sigh* Fine. One more house, then we go to the fair. Deal?
Johnny, Benny, & Travis: Deal!
The three of them ran down the street, excited. I groaned*
Lacey: This is so embarrassing. What of someone from school sees me?
Mighty: Oh, come on. You're never too old for Halloween.
Lacey: I know that. It's just . . .
Mighty: Just what?
Lacey: Can you keep a secret?
Mighty: Always.
Lacey: The truth is, I was actually looking forward to trick-or-treating this year. But yesterday, Mackenzie Benton and her friends found a trick-or-treat map I made for the boys when it fell out of my science book. They started laughing at me and calling me a baby. A bunch of other kids overhead them & started laughing along with them. It was so embarrassing. So I decided right then and there, I was too old to go trick-or-treating.
Mighty*sigh* Why am I not surprised? *he grabbed my shoulders & turned me to him* Lacey, listen. Don't listen to those three. They're just bullies. They look for weaknesses and find joy in making their targets miserable. If you give in to their taunts, they're never going to stop.
I let his words sink in. The truth was, I was actually having fun doing this with my brothers.
Lacey: You know what? You're right. I shouldn't let those jerks ruin my Halloween. You're never too old for it. *I hugged Mighty* Thanks, Mighty.
Mighty: What are boyfriend's for?
We leaned in for a kiss. But before our lips could touch, the Tweebs ran up to us*
Johnny: Hey, Lacey! We've got trou -
They saw us close to each other*
Benny: Are you guys going to make out?
We quickly jumped away & I glared down at my brothers*
Lacey: Is this the Tweebs want to die day?
Travis: Nevermind that! We've got trouble! It's Cream, Cheese, and Rosie's kids! *he grabbed my hand & started pulling me* Come on! We'll show you!
We ran down the street & saw Cream, Cheese, Sasha, Rory, Snaggle, & Rosie. The kids & Cheese were crying & Rosie was trying to calm them down*
Mighty: Rosie, what happened?
Rosie: I don't know. I just turned my back for a minute & the next thing I knew, they were crying and their candy bags were gone.
I knelt down & petted Cream's head*
Lacey: Cream, tell us what happened?
Cream: Th - These two mean boys came came towards us on their skateboards & took our candy!
Rory: Then they threw it into that house!
He pointed to a scary looking house (look up "Haunted Victorian House" by "Dedyone" on "Deviantart"). My felt my face go pale*
Lacey: Oh, great.
Mighty: Well, let's go get that candy.
He started to go towards the front walk, but I stopped him*
Lacey: Are you crazy!? That's the Anderson house! It's got wall-to-wall ghosts and goblins!
Rosie: Lacey, I didn't think you of all people would all that ghosts and goblins nonsense. There are no such things.
Lacey: Well, it's just, if magic exists, why shouldn't monsters?
Rosie: Maybe so, but I know for certain that there is nothing in that house. *her face turned sad* Not since the family moved away years ago.
Rory: You knew the Anderson family, Rosie?
Rosie: Oh, yes. I knew them when I was a child. They had a daughter named Flora who was a dear friend of mine. She had a beautiful garden in the backyard full of such beautiful flowers. She would always sing such beautiful songs to the flowers and they would thrive under her loving care. But one day, Flora and her family had to move away. No one moved in and over the years the house became so sad. It was always such a shame every time I passed by. I had the idea of turning it into an orphanage at one point, but I just couldn't beat to tear apart my old friend's house.
Lacey: Uh, Rosie. As glad as I am that you're having a nice trip down memory lane, we should focus on something more important. Aka, getting the kids candy out of the creepy old house.
Rosie: You're right, you're right. But I don't want the chicken going in there because old houses like this can be dangerous.
Mighty: Then you stay here and we'll get the candy.
Cream: Please be careful, Mr. Mighty, Miss Lacey.
Cheese: Chao.
Lacey: Don't worry. We'll be okay. Johnny, Benny, Travis, you stay here with Rosie.
Johnny, Benny, & Travis: Okay.
Mighty & I started up the pathway & went up to the front door. I knocked & it slowly creaked open. Then we peaked inside.
Mighty: Helloooo!
Unsurprisingly, nobody answered. We tip-toed inside, the floor creaking as we did. The place was covered in dust & cobwebs. Luckily, we didn't have far to go. All 5 trick-or-treat bags were sitting in the middle of the room*
Lacey: Oh, good. There they are. Let's grab the bags and get out of here. This place gives me the creeps.
Mighty: Okay.
He picked up all the bags & we started to head towards the door. Suddenly, we heard a loud "bang!"*
Lacey: What was that!?
Mighty: I don't know.
Suddenly, the whole house started to shake. Then the front door slammed shut behind us. I tried to open it, but it wouldn't budge*
Lacey: It won't open!
Mighty: Let me try!
I tried to pull the door open, but even he couldn't open it, even with his super strength. Just then, an orange light appeared behind us. We slowly turned around & what we saw, made us scream*
Outside, Rosie, the kids, & Cheese saw the door slam shut & heard the screaming*
All: Oh no!
Meanwhile, back at the fair*
(Abigail's POV)
I was walking around the fair with Shadow, who had arrived earlier with Rouge, Omega, & Hope. He was dressed as a Baron Samedi (look up "Halloween 2020: Shadow the Baron Samedi" by "FinikArt" on "Deviantart"), Rouge was a vampire (look up "Halloween 2020: Rouge the Bloody Mary" by "FinikArt" on "Deviantart"), Hope was an angel (look up "Angel Costume - 4 Piece Set" on "), & Omega just had a jack-o'-lantern on his head (look up ".:Happy Halloween 2022:." by "SonicWind-01" on "Deviantart"). I was trying to have fun, but I was getting really worried about Lacey and Mighty. It was almost midnight, & time for the judges to announce the winners of the Couple's Costume Contest. Lacey had been working on on costume for weeks. There was no way she'd miss the opportunity to show off her work, even if it meant being fashionably late*
Shadow: Don't worry. I'm sure Lacey will show up soon with Mighty.
Abigail: I know. But I'm still worried. She have called me if she was going to be this late. I can't shake this gut feeling that something bad is going to happen.
Cream*off-screen* Miss Abby! Everyone!
Cheese*off-screen* Chao-Chao!
We turned around & saw Cream, Cheese, Sasha, Rory, Snaggle, Rosie, & Lacey's triplet brothers running towards us, looking scared. The rest of the Freedom Fighters heard them too*
Abigail: Whoa, whoa, guys what happened?
Sasha: Lacey and Mighty went into this scary looking house to get out candy after some bullies threw it in there.
Rory: Just then, the front door slammed shut and then there was this bright flash of light in the windows.
Snaggle: Then we heard them scream and we ran here to get help!
Rosie: We think something must've happened today then!
Benny: Please, guys! Save our big sister!
Johnny & Travis: Please?
Sally: Don't worry. We will. Cream, you and Cheese show us where this house is.
Cream: Yes, Princess Sally.
Cheese: Chao-Chao.
Sonic: Come on, Freedom Fighters. We've got teammates to save! Let's do it to it!
We all ran out of the fair, with the Chaotix & Team Dark behind us*
We arrived at the house*
Cream: Here! This is the scary house!
Cheese: Chao-Chao!
Tails: They went into the Cromwell house!?
Charmy: What if they've been abducted by ghosts!?
Espio: Charmy, you know ghosts don't exist.
Rotor: That's right. I'm sure they probably fell through the floorboards or something.
Sally: Alright. Let's go in and find our friends.
She went first as we went inside the house. Antoine, being the scaredy-cat he was, was shaking like a leaf as he held on to Bunnie's metal arm*
Antoine: O - Oh well, they're not here. Let's be going go home.
Bunnie: You can go home if you want, Sugar-Twan. We're gonna keep lookin'.
She got her arm out of his grip & followed us*
Antoine: No! That is okay! I am coming!
He ran after us. Suddenly, he tripped on something & landed on the floor with a "thud!" Just then, the whole floor started to creak. Then it broke & we all fell through the floor, screaming. Luckily, Sonic, Shadow, Omega, Bunnie, & Espio landed on their feet when we got to the ground floor. Sonic caught Sally, Shadow caught me, Omega caught Hope & Rotor, & Bunnie caught Antoine. Tails caught Amy & flew down with his tails. Charmy, Saffron, & Rouge flew down themselves. Vector was the only who landed on his face*
Sonic: Nice going, Twan!
Antoine: I am sorry.
Suddenly, we heard a scream, one I knew all too well*
Abigail: Lacey!
Rotor: It came from over there!
He pointed to a door at the other side of the room. We all ran to it & burst it open. But to our shock & surprise, we found Mighty & Lacey, sitting in the middle of the room, sitting around a lantern. Flying above the crowd was a giant pumpkin with a jack-o'-lantern face, wings, & wearing a witch's hat (look up "Mahou Tsukai Pretty Cure! Minor Characters/Pumpkin Bird" on "Pretty Cure Wiki"). It noticed us & flew over*
Pumpkin Spirit: Well, well, how delightful! More guests for our party!
Hope: Party?
Pumpkin Spirit: Of course. Our Halloween Party. Although, as you can see, it's not much of a party.
We all looked around, seeing he was right. The room was decorated, but no one was in here, except the flying pumpkin, Mighty, & Lacey, gathered around the lantern*
Espio: Mighty, are you and Lacey alright?
Mighty: Yeah, we're fine. Sorry if we worried you guys.
Sally: The kids and Rosie said they heard you screaming. We thought you had been hurt.
Lacey: Well, we screamed because this guy surprised us out of nowhere.
Pumpkin Spirit: I apologize. I was so excited that someone had come to visit me, I couldn't help myself.
Mighty: You see, he's the spirit of Halloween. When he told us how he hosts a Halloween party here every year, but no one comes, we felt bad for him. So we decided to stay for a bit and give him some company.
Lacey: We were just telling each other scary stories when you guys showed up.
We all looked up at the floating pumpkin, who looked ready to cry*
Amy: Poor Mr. Pumpkin.
Sonic: What a bummer.
We all went quiet for a while. Then I got an idea*
Abigail: Hey, why don't you come with us to our town's Halloween Fair?
Bunnie: That's a wonderful idea, Abby-Girl.
Everyone else nodded in agreement*
Pumpkin Spirit: Really? No one's actually ever invited me to a party before. I'm always the one throwing the parties.
Sally: Of course. As Princess, I informally invite you to our Kingdom's Halloween Fair.
Pumpkin Spirit: Oh thank you! Thank you all! *suddenly, his hat jumped off his head, exploding confetti everywhere* Sorry. That tends to happen when I get excited.
So, after we cleaned up, we all went back to the party. The Pumpkin Spirit was having an wonderful time. He even made it rain candy at one point. At quarter to midnight, the Royal Family, along with the Council of Acorn, got on the stage*
King Nigel: Attention, my subjects. It is almost midnight, and that means it's time to announce who we have selected to be the winners of the Couple's Costume Contest. *the crowd cheered. then we all waited in anticipation anticipation as he pulled out an envelope* And the winners of the Couple's Costume Contest are *he opened it & read the names* . . . Shadow the Hedgehog and Abigail Catz!
Shadow & I were shocked*
Abigail: We won? *I smiled & jumped to hug Shadow* We won, Shadow! We won!
Shadow: I can see that.
We went up on the stage to collect our prize, which was a month's worth of coupons to the ice cream parlor*
Abigail: Sorry you and Mighty didn't win, Lacey.
Lacey: Oh, it's fine. I've already got ideas for next year.
Mighty: Looking forward to it, Cupcake.
King Nigel: And of course, we would like to invite the Spirit of Halloween to join our Halloween Fair every year.
Pumpkin Spirit: I would be honored, Your Majesty. *just then, the clock struck midnight* Welp, Halloween's over. It's time for me to go back to the Spirit World.
Cream: Will we really you next year, Mr. Pumpkin?
Cheese: Chao-Chao.
Pumpkin Spirit: Of course, little one. *he started to fly away* Happy Halloween!
All: Happy Halloween!
We all waved at the spirit as it flew away towards the full moon*
