Me, Rouge, & Amy were now trapped in in-between the giant emerald shards*
Rouge: Y'know . . . I've had dream like this. Only they were pleasant.
Amy: Can you contact the others so they can give us a hand?
Rouge: RRGH! I can't reach my ear comm . . . Looks like we're on our own.
Amy: All right then . . . *she made her hammer grow bigger, destroying the crystals holding it. she swung it at the crystals holding Rouge's legs & my arms* It'll take a bit, but once I get your legs and arms free . . .
Rouge: I can literally kick us out of here . . .
Julie-Su: And I can blast us out. Just don't break anything while you're at it, okay?
Just then, we heard loud footsteps comics towards us*
Rouge: Something big is coming. Keep swinging!
Amy swung harder to destroy the crystals*
(Knuckles' POV)
I circled with the new echidna, called Nixus*
Knuckles: I don't believe it. I didn't know any echidnas lived down here.
Nixus: You don't believe it? You're the first echidna I've seen in years. Where've you been hiding?
Knuckles: Angel Island. Pretty much where all the echidnas are living these days.
Nixus: Really? My ancestors escaped underground to escape the war between the Knuckles Clan and the Felidae. I've pretty much lived down here my whole life.
Knuckles: Didn't you say you've been looking for the Master Emerald shards?
Nixus: Yeah, so did you. How come they're not on the Island, huh? Huh?
Knuckles: Hold that thought. *whispering to Shadow* What do you think? I want to believe he's on our side, but . . .
Shadow*whispering* Step aside. *out loud* I find it too convenient that we've come to this remote mine, happen to run into you, and that you're coincidentally looking for the shards.
Nixus: I could say the same thing to you, Mac. I've been down here all this time and you two just happen to find me? How do I know you're not thieves planning to mug me?
Shadow: I'm asking the questions here.
Nixus: Fine. Like I said, I've lived down here all my life, but I've been traveling the world looking for a way back as long as I can remember. *he pulled out a necklace with three Master Emerald shards at the end* I figured they'd be the ticket back to my ancestral home.
Knuckles: I became the Guardian of the Master Emerald after my Father. He's almost like me, but in reverse!
Shadow: Also convenient.
Knuckles: Or maybe it's a stroke of good luck! Just because you're only surviving kin is a murderous alien - *I realized what I just said* . . . Sorry. That wasn't fair.
Shadow: Hmph. Suit yourself. We need to be looking for Eclipse anyway. *he activated his comm* Shadow to Rouge. Any you Julie-Su, and Amy found anything?
Nixus: Who?
Knuckles: Evil space alien. Er . . . Long story.
(Julie-Su's POV)
Soon, both Rouge's legs & my arms were free. I got out my blaster & fired lasers, destroying the crystals. Rouge used her Screw Kick. Suddenly, a giant laser blast hit the rest of the crystals, freeing us*
Shadow*off-screen*Rouge? Do you copy? Shadow to Omega. Report! Omega!?
We dodged another laser blast*
Rouge: We're under attack!
Shadow*off-screen* Does Eclipse have the Dark Arms with him?
Rouge: It's not Eclipse! It looks like Omega!
(Knuckles' POV)
Rouge*off-screen*And it's packing some serious firepower!
Shadow: Stand by! We're on our way! Rouge, Amy, and Julie-Su are under attack, and it's not Eclipse.
He started to take off*
Knuckles: Let's go! Nixus, come with us! We'll be safer all together.
Nixus: What! No! We need to reassemble the Master Emerald! Do you want to risk the shards getting damaged? Or that you're being lied into an ambush? I know a place where we can reassemble the Master Emerald. Once that's done and it's tucked away safe, we can come to the rescue!
Knuckles: He's got a point . . . Go ahead! We'll catch up!
Shadow: Make it quick.
He skated away. I followed Nixus to the chamber*
Knuckles: You seem to know your way around these mines.
Nixus: I've spent a lot of time here. Treasure hunting, researching. The trolls left a lot of relics behind.
Knuckles: Wait, Trolls!?
I only Troll I've ever known about was Ixis Naugus. And I haven't seen him since he tried to take over New Mobotropolis*
Nixus: Scholars today call them the Second Great Civilization. Their culture was felt all over the world, but The mostly lived in a land called Pancardina. This was once one of their many mines. The crystals mined here increased their magical powers. Their unique Crystalline Technology brought a new age prosperity and order to the world. And then a great catastrophe ended it all. Pancardina was blasted into a series of islands and the trolls were all but wiped out overnight.
Knuckles: Just like how Perfect Chaos annihilated most of the Knuckles Clan . . .
Nixus: History has a way of repeating itself.
Knuckles: Do you think the Chaos Emeralds came into play there too?
Nixus: Most likely. But it wouldn't have been the Trolls doing. They were the only ones to recognize those cursed gems for the terrors they were. No, they used a far greater power. A purer power! A power that could reshape the world and all things in it. Ixis.
Knuckles: Ixis?
Nixus: A primordial force from the beginning of time! It was sealed away by lesser, chaotic forces that shaped the universe as we know it!
Knuckles: Take it easy there. You sound like you're a fan of this Ixis stuff.
Nixus: Ah-ha-ha . . . I just have an appreciate for history.
We found a crystal organ & he played a few notes*
Knuckles: Besides, I've seen the power of the Chaos Emeralds. The only thing that can match their power is the Master Emerald.
Nixus: Perhaps. But on that subject . . . *the organ slides to show a passageway. we went down some stairs until we found a empty chamber* Here's that hidden spot I was talking about!
Knuckles: This is perfect! *he & I got out our shards of the Master Emerald* Quick! Give me your shards of the Master Emerald!
Nixus: Actually . . . *his eyes started to glow green* I'll take it from here.
Suddenly, I was trapped in white crystals & Nixus transformed into the same Troll Wizard I was thinking about earlier*
Knuckles: Naugus!?
(Julie-Su's POV)
Amy, Rouge, & I battled against Omega, who had somehow grown white crystals on his metal body. I fired my blaster, Amy hit him with her hammer, & Rouge kicked him, but none of our attacks seemed to be working*
Amy: This isn't fair! Those crystals are much stronger than the ones we broke out of!
Julie-Su: It sure would be easier if we had some backup!
Suddenly, Shadow came in & did a Spin Dash on Omega's head*
Rouge: Speak of the devil. Perfect dramatic timing, handsome.
Shadow: I am the Ultimate Lifeform. Are you all right?
Rouge: Yes. No thanks to you. I had to rely on a different hedgehog this time.
Julie-Su: Where's Knuckles?
Shadow: He stayed behind to fix the Master Emerald with an echidna who lives in these caves named "Nixus."
Amy: In these caves? Since when - ? *a look of realization filled her face* Forget that thing! I know what's going on! Knuckles is in danger! We've got to save him! Now!
Rouge: It's Omega! And he's getting back up!
*Shadow hit him with a Chaos Spear*
Shadow: That Chaos Spear will keep him disabled for the moment. Rouge, track the Master Emerald. We find it, we find Knuckles. Amy, explain.
Amy: It's gotta be Ixis Naugus! We can do all sorts of crazy crystal stuff! Plus, he really likes shape-shifting to trick other people into getting what we wants! And he's definitely want the Master Emerald!
(Knuckles' POV)
I stared in shock at the Troll Wizard, who was touching my face*
Knuckles: Y - You . . . You're not . . . But how did . . .
Ixis Naugus: I overhead the bat-woman earlier. And I was telling the truth when I said I had an appreciation for history. Together with a little clever wordplay, it wasn't hard to tell you what you wanted to hear. I was worried I wouldn't be able to pull off a convincing transformation. Yet I couldn't risk damaging the shards in a confrontation. It was enough for you though, wasn't it? Gullible fool! *he laughed as he put his claws to my face next* I've already taken care of the others. If your striped friend finds them alive, they'll still be destroyed by my newest minion! Now I shall assemble the Master Emerald and use it's power to rekindle my magic! Thank you for your help, Knuckles! I'll let you live long enough to see my glorious return to form and the destruction of your friends!
He tried to put the Master Emerald back together, but it wasn't working. I couldn't resist laughing at him*
Knuckles: You may know a lot about the Emeralds, but you don't have much experience with them!
Ixis Naugus: I'll admit, I may have been a trifle over-eager at the last moment . . . *his hat hovered off his head & he leaned down to me* Ahhh, but you know how to fix the Master Emerald, yes? While I may not be able to control your mind, I can at least make you spill your secrets!
Knuckles: Nghk! N - No!
Using a burst a strength, I broke free from the crystals holding me & threw a punch at him. But he dodged & created a tower of crystal to avoid me*
Ixis Naugus: You're wasting your time with me! Your friends are fighting for their lives as - *I ignored him & started climbing the tower, which he made taller* Ahh! Even as we speak! Do you value your revenge more than their lives!?
That made me realize he was right*
Knuckles: Julie-Su . . . Amy . . . *that was a mistake. because I suddenly got hit in the stomach with a piece of crystal & was sent flying out of the room. just then, a wall of crystal blocked the door. I tried to punch through it, but it wouldn't budge* It's okay. Save Amy and Julie-Su. Save Team Dark. Get them to help me bust down the wall. Stop him. Save the Master Emerald. I can do this. This is doable. Just hurry and find -
I had just left the passageway when I heard a voice call my name*
Amy & Julie-Su*off-screen* Knuckles!
(Julie-Su's POV)
Amy & And both hugged him*
Knuckles: Oh, hey! You're already rescued! That's great!
Julie-Su: Knuckles!? Are you okay!?
Amy: I think that Nixus guy - !
Knuckles: He's Ixis Naugus. I know. I got played for a chump. Again.
Amy pouted & I put my hand his shoulder*
Rouge: Aww, but you make such a reliable chump!
Knuckles: Gee, thanks. Where's your robot buddy? I need his help to get through to the Master Emerald!
Shadow: It seems he was enchanted by the same wizard who fooled you. Brace yourselves. He's - *suddenly, we all dodged a giant laser blast. we all got up & saw the crystalized Omega coming towards us* He's here.
