A/N: HOLY SHIT im so excited to write this one scene (take two guesses what it is because im not telling u, lol) and IM PLANNING IT OUT IN MY MIND AND ITS GONNA BE A BANGER
The next morning, the sun shined down on the forest. The forest felt tight, like something was wrong. Ashfur, who was the gray tom who spawned into the forest two nights before. He had taken the form of the black cat he had stolen the rabbit from the night before. He did it so that way he could conceal his identity from the cats he would be meeting-Squirrelflight, Lionpaw, Hollypaw, and Jaypaw. At least, for now.
He padded into ThunderClan camp. Cats were talking, but stopped as soon as they smelled him.
Cloudtail jumped in front of Ashfur, blocking his path. "What are you doing here?!" He yelled.
"I need to see Lionpaw, Jaypaw, and Hollypaw. Where are they?" Ashfur responded calmly.
"Why?"
"I need to ask them... A few questions." Ashfur chose his words carefully as to not raise suspicion.
"Uh, okay... Well, they're gone. Squirrelflight took them out of the camp this morning."
"Where did they go?"
"I don't know."
"Great. Thanks for your help," Ashfur said with a hint of frustration in his voice. He wanted to impale Cloudtail in the throat, but didn't because he was his foster brother and that would be wrong.
Ashfur walked out of ThunderClan camp, smelling the steps the cats he was hunting down left behind. It seemed as if they stepped into water or something, because at a certain point, he couldn't smell their footprints anymore. He stopped at a river that was the border between the ThunderClan and WindClan border. He didn't want to cross the border, because then he would have to deal with WindClan, but needed to cross it to see if they were there. He shifted his paws, contemplating the decision, and eventually decided to risk it. He could fight them off anyway. He was way stronger than them. As he stepped over to the flat, treeless borders of WindClan, he realized that he may have made a mistake.
"Mom, why are we going to the Horseplace?" Lionpaw asked as he, Squirrelflight, Hollypaw, and Jaypaw were walking to the Horseplace.
"It's far enough from ThunderClan camp. He won't find us."
"Who's he?" Hollypaw interjected.
"I don't know."
Hollypaw rolled her eyes as they continued walking. The trip was mostly silent. Sometimes Lionpaw meowed something, which he got no response from. Birds chirped in the trees above them, as branches swished in the wind. The wind was particularly strong that day, blowing in the cat's faces and getting in the way of things. A couple dry leaves that stayed in the forest all year crunched under them as the sweet aroma of flowers wafted into their noses. When they found the horseplace, the group settled into it.
"Ugh! It smells like mouse-dung!" Hollypaw wrinkled her nose in disgust.
"Yeah, because there's dirt everywhere, mouse-brain," Jaypaw replied.
"Shut up Jaypaw," Hollypaw rolled her eyes.
"You two, stop being mean to each other," Squirrelflight meowed sternly.
Hollypaw and Jaypaw nodded and said in unison, "Yes mom."
"Now, be quiet. We need to find a place to stay for the night."
The group of cats settled in the horse dens. They smelled horrible, and the beds were uncomfortable, but it was better to be safe then sorry. However, they couldn't stay long. Ashfur would be looking for them, and he would eventually find them. They had to move fast.
"Get some rest, and then we move again first thing tomorrow."
"It's not even dark!" Lionpaw complained.
"I don't care. We're going to do a lot of walking tomorrow."
"Fine."
Lionpaw mumbled some curses under his breath, and went to sleep in the stables. Hollypaw was much more complacent, falling asleep quickly. Squirrelflight was the last to fall asleep.
Ashfur noticed that the smell of the footsteps had reappeared after lots of walking. He had crossed the WindClan border, and fortunately no one noticed him. They went through here and then go south, he figured. They went to the horseplace! He smirked. Ashfur had already found the group's hiding spots. It was only a matter of time before he would arrive there.
