Midoriya found a sharp rock on the ground. Using the Fuse ability, he fused the rock with the pipe he still held onto, causing it to turn into a hammer. He ran to each robot, swinging left and right.
"Okay, my total now is 35 of them." He wiped the sweat off his brow with his sleeve. "Man, UA doesn't mess around."
…..
The principal smirked. Raising her white paw, she cackled, "Let's bring out the true nature of this test!" Letting out evil cackles, she pressed her paw against the button.
….
All of the applicants froze when a loud mechanical noise echoed throughout the fake city. Clouds of smoke appeared out of nowhere, causing fits of coughing. A lone girl screamed when a shining red light glowed against the smoke.
What came out was a giant robot around the size of a skyscraper!
Iida gasped, "They can't expect us to fight this?! We're not prepared!" She ran, along with most of the other girls. Midoriya turned around to run when he heard a yelp of pain. He slowly turned back around.
Uraraka was pressed down onto the pavement by the giant robot. She was groaning in pain, tears falling down her face. Her teeth were gritted as if she was stopping herself was screaming…and Midoriya could tell she really wanted to.
She was the first girl who was really nice to him. She helped him and gave him a sunny smile when no one else would. And that thing was about to kill her.
He got up and ran to where she was. Stopping in front of the robot, he looked every which way for something on its features that looked like a flat floor. When he spotted one, he quickly used Ascend to travel through the thing's hand. The moment he found his footing, he found another flat surface…that would lead him to go through the robot's head.
Midoriya gulped. He had never used Ascend to get through anything thicker than the second floor of his apartment. But knowing that a human life was in danger, he let out his breath and used the ability. He closed his eyes, expecting a rush of pain from bolts and circuitry, but all he felt was a gentle warmth.
Opening his eyes, he gaped, finding himself surrounded by a green light that was acting like a shield. Sparks, wires, and bolts all got loose from his charge, but they never touched him. Finally, he managed to reach the top; his upper half outside of the robot, his lower half still covered by that green light.
He grunted and pushed the rest of his body out. Finding some loose shrapnel, he used Ultrahand to connect the pieces to his hammer, making it look like a scythe. He slashed the red eye continuously with all of his strength…until he finally managed to break the glass and hit the button. The robot wavered and began falling backwards.
Midoriya jumped off, spreading and scrunching his Wind Glider over and over until he reached the ground. Using Ultrahand, he separated the fused objects with the pipe and tossed it near Uraraka. He yelled, "Can you grab onto the pipe?!"
Uraraka looked confused but nodded. He waited until she picked it up. Using Ultrahand, he gripped onto the pipe, lifting it up into the air, taking Uraraka with it. She looked at him in amazement as he ran away, taking both the pipe and her to a safe distance.
"Over here, Sonny!" In the distance, Midoriya saw an elderly woman waving at him. Her pink-gray hair was tied up in a bun and she was wearing a nurse-jacket. Two robots beside her were carrying a stretcher.
Her black eyes were impressed as she watched him lower Uraraka to the stretcher. The girl looked up at him with tears of gratitude in her eyes. "Thank you!" His skin turned as red as a strawberry as he wildly protested.
"N-No! It's nothing! Hahaha…"
He finally noticed the nurse beside him and went into a crazy frenzy, "OH…MY…..GOSH! Y-You're Recovery Girl! You have the best saving rate of casualties and accidents in the country! It's truly an honor to meet you!" The nurse gently thwacked him in the head with her cane.
"Now, now…none of that, Sonny!" She turned to Uraraka, gently checking her over. "You did a great job-this test would've ended in a tragedy if you weren't there…Your quirk really is something else." Midoriya stroked the back of his neck bashfully.
"Oh, thank you!"
Uraraka waved to him as the two robots carried her to the infirmary placed on the campus. Midoriya waved back, face a healthy shade of red.
A certain bespectacled bluenette watched the exchange.
…
Neza gazed passively at the glowering group of teachers.
"Forgive me Neza…but what the HECK?! Don't you realize you almost killed a child down there?!"
Neza smiled serenely, "I had the situation under control, Ms. Aizawa. If the robot was REALLY able to commit homicide, I would've stopped it."
Cementoss scowled, pushing the loose frills of her onyx hairbow out of the way, "Still that was WAY too reckless!"
"She was never in any real danger, ladies." Everyone turned towards All Might, aka Yuki Toshinori. She was gazing out the window down at Izuku Midoriya, who was taking a few gummies that Recovery Girl handed him.
"Do y-you think…I can become a h-hero...?"
She let out a small smile, blue eyes filled with deep remorse.
"Yes…yes you can, Midoriya."
…
"I know I didn't get a lot. This isn't good-37 was too low a score for being a hero. Maybe I can switch to Support Department…Ultrahand might let me come up with a lot of possibilities."
"Izuku?" Coming back to himself, he stared at his mother, who was looking at him in concern.
"Why are you staring at that fish? Should I be worried about you, honey?"
"I'm sorry, Mom. I spaced out." He began eating his dinner hungrily. He looked down at his glove, gazing at all of the stones that were glinting at him. He sighed sadly and took a bite of rice.
…..
"Izuku, you have a letter!" Izuku looked up from his Camera Compendium facts at his mothers' yell. Feeling his heart in his ears, he shakily took the letter from his mother.
"Thank you, Mom. Is it okay if I…" He gestured towards the door. Inko smiled softly, closing the door.
He took a deep breath and opened the envelope. A small disc fell to the floor. He poked at it, stumbling back in surprise as a screen hovered over the disc.
"Hello Young Midoriya. It's me, All Might. I'm here to tell you about your scores. You were a little low today, with a total of 37 points."
Midoriya sighed, dejected. I knew it…
"But!" He looked up. All Might was smiling softly at him now.
"There was a trick to the test! Yes, the goal of the exercise was defeating robots, but there are other measures of being a hero!"
The screen changed to Uraraka standing in front of Present Mic. "Hello, Present Mic. It was my fault that the test went wrong for that boy. Is…is it possible to give him my points?" The blonde smiled.
"It's okay, girl! You don't have to worry about him. Between you and me, I have a good feeling about his future!" Uraraka smiled, "Really?"
The screen turned back to just showing All Might.
"Saving people when no one else would. Letting your body move on its own to keep someone safe…it shows great promise of being a hero. Because of your efforts, your score went up 90 points!"
Midoriya let out a noise between a gasp and a sigh. Had he really...?
"Midoriya Izuku, welcome to Your Hero Academia!" Izuku trembled with emotion.
"And Midoriya…" He looked up, gasping when All Might looked at him with an almost motherly expression.
"You can become a hero."
…..
Midoriya ran down the stairs, the sages following him silently. "Mom, I'm going!"
"Oh, baby!" Inko threw herself into her son's arms, sobbing in happiness for him. He chuckled wetly, tears starting to fall as well.
"My strong hero!" She backed away from him and straightened his uniform. She wiped her eyes and looked at him with a fierce expression.
"Okay, listen to me baby." Her tone was serious, making her son straighten. "Hero work used to be a woman' only society, so there are going to be a lot of stubborn girls and heroes that won't let go of their old ways. I don't know how much UA is affected by those ideals." She tenderly moved a stray curl away from his forehead. "But I know that you are worth much more than what they think of you. You're Midoriya Izuku, my baby, and someone who will be hero!" She gently clutched onto his glove, looking at it with grateful eyes.
"I'm sorry I was never more supportive…even when I knew what the result was going to be, I should've just…realized the strength of your character. But I will say it now: I think-no, I know…you're going to be a hero!"
"Oh, Mama!" Midoriya burrowed himself against his mother's shoulder, happy tears falling freely. It was now Inko's turn to smile good-naturedly at her son.
"Now, hurry." He let go and gave her a beaming smile. He ran out the door with a skip in his step. Inko continued to smile…although her green eyes turned to astonishment when a translucent blue wing and tail followed after her son.
She gasped, hands covering her mouth. She remembered something she heard her son mention about his quirk:
"I have powers that come after this embedded glove along with sages with powers. My mentor, his name is Rauru, told me that only people that I trust completely can see them, well that and other functions of my glove."
It had hurt her a little to know that she wasn't one of those people. But now she was…
Inko felt like her old relationship with her son was coming back, causing her to kneel on the floor, crying in pure joy.
….
"1-A…1-A…there it is!" Midoriya stood in front of the 12-foot door, smiling in excitement. "This is it! This is the first step to achieving my dream!" He took a deep breath and opened the door.
All chatting stopped when all the girls looked at Midoriya and he looked at them.
Midoriya said nothing and simply shut the door.
Loud stomping footsteps were heard at a brisk pace and the door was yanked open.
"DON'T JUST PRETEND LIKE YOU DIDN'T SEE US!" A hand yanked onto the collar of his uniform and pulled him in. He was barely able to hang onto the strap of his yellow backpack. Caramel flooded his senses and with it a sense of dread.
He was pushed in the center of the front of the class. "Thanks, Kacchan…" The girl in question growled.
"What are you doing here, Deku?!" The green-haired boy looked at her, "I-I was accepted. I-my class was assigned as 1-A…"
"YOU!" Midoriya looked up at the bluenette that he saw at the application exam. "Y-Yes?"
The bluenette bowed before him, "I am profoundly sorry for my actions at the exam! You knew that there was something more to the exam, right?"
Midoriya stuttered, "Well, no not-not really-" The girl held out her hand in front of him, "Don't be so modest! You saw through the obvious purpose that 10-foot robot was for us; I ran like a coward when you displayed the actions of a true hero! Forgive me-you're a much better hero than I am!"
Midoriya waved his hands around in a panic, "N-no, that's not true! I only moved without thinking. I'm sure if you knew it was a test, you would've reacted differently. B-Besides, it was only the first day at UA! You really don't have to apologize." He looked up at her, "We can start over if you want. Want to be friends?"
Iida looked up, her blue eyes softening, "Yeah, that sounds good." She smiled gently at him, causing him to blush in embarrassment. "You're a boy, huh?!" Midoriya turned around and all he saw was pink.
"Uh…y-yeah…" The pink girl squealed, "That's so cool! What's your power?!"
"Oh, uh…my quirk is energy that gets stored into my glove, causing me to perform various abilities." He held out his arm to show it to her.
"Wow! It has a lot of bling-bling too! That's rad!" She gave him a wink, "I'm Ashido Mina! I'm looking forward to working with you, cutie!"
"C-cutie?" Midoriya felt so hot that he was surprised steam wasn't flying out of his lids. The door opened, signaling another student.
"Oh Midoriya! You're here too!" Midoriya looked up, "Oh…Uraraka, hi!"
The brunette ran towards him, "Thanks again for saving me at the exam! You really showed that robot what for! You burrowed through all that metal and came out of its head!"
An explosion sounded, "What did she say, Deku?!"
With all this attention, Midoriya wanted to curl into a ball of embarrassment.
Somebody save me!
The door opened again. What was in front of it was a yellow…caterpillar?
The caterpillar opened up to reveal a woman who seemed to belong in a morgue. She took out a Capri-Sun juice box and began sipping it, looking at her students, especially Midoriya. The boy didn't know why but he knew that she was glaring at him.
Great! Another teacher who can't see past my gender! He looked away, feeling exposed. Uraraka narrowed her eyes at her teacher and moved closer to Midoriya, showing her support.
The woman's' eyes widened in surprise, but it was so quick that one would have imagined it. When she was finished with her juice, she unzipped the rest of her sleeping bag. Standing up, with a crumpled juice box in hand, she studied her students.
"Eight seconds…not bad but it could be better." She walked over to her desk, her sleeping bag hanging over one arm. "Okay, this is your first day here. We're going to start with some quirk testing." She opened a thick drawer on her desk that looked like the size of a filing cabinet.
She removed gym uniforms for the whole class and placed them on her desk. "Change into these uniforms and meet me outside in the ground area." She waited by the chalkboard as the girls each took their uniform. Midoriya was the last one to get his.
She cleared her throat, "Midoriya, since this rule is new, a lot of people don't know the way to the men's changing room. Please follow me."
Midoriya nodded and walked toward her, perfectly aware of her judgmental eyes the whole time.
I just came here and I already wish it was over!
