Chapter 2

The next morning, Kara was at her desk at CatCo. The words still weren't coming to her and the screen still had the blinking cursor on it. The look on her face must have been obvious as Nia poked her on the shoulder and she somehow hadn't seen her coming.

"You good?" She asked.

"Something about our last case really has me out of sorts. Worse still Marie is still out of sorts too," Kara admitted.

"We didn't catch the bad guy. That puts us all out of sorts. As for Marie, I get what her mother was trying to do but I can see why she'd be a little unsteady on her feet, so to speak," Nia said. Kara nodded.

"I told her that she has to talk it over with Todd. He's back to work, by the way. Lena told him to take more time off if he needed it but he wanted to go back," the blonde said.

"That's all those years at the DEO," Nia chuckled. Most DEO officers were highly committed and often wanted back to work, even if it was maybe a little too soon. The DEO had a good support system for wounded officers though and that often was the key difference in how well they healed mentally and physically.

"Lena is following the DEO procedure and has good staff so I think you're right," Kara smiled. The chat was interrupted by the sound of their boss – Cat Grant – from her office.

"Kiera!" Kara heaved a sigh and gave Nia a quick smile before heading into her boss's office.

"Yes Miss Grant?" Kara asked with a smile on her face.

"Your article – how's it coming?" Cat wanted to know.

"It's coming along. Trying to uncover all the tentacles of Enigma's organization has been tricky, even with Supergirl's help," Kara said. She was stalling but thankfully Cat didn't know that.

"How is our favorite superhero?" Cat asked.

"Upset that Enigma slipped her grasp but glad that National City is safe once again," Kara told her.

"Uh huh. Why is it that Enigma slipped away? Are you analyzing that in your article? Very few criminals manage to get through Supergirl and her associates hands," Cat gave her this look that made Kara swear she was boring into her soul. Few people scared the Kryptonian like Cat Grant.

"All sides will be analyzed in my article," Kara promised.

"Good. I want it out tomorrow morning," her boss said.

"But I thought you wanted an in-depth article like my Lex Luthor expose?" The blonde's eyebrows went up. That took weeks to put together and it was pages and pages of published material.

"I changed my mind. I want to make it a multiple part article. Get the first part together and have it on my desk by three o'clock," Cat told her. That only gave Kara six hours to put something together and then hope to have more to put out.

"Miss Grant – I don't think I have enough to make it a multiple part article. There are parts that even Supergirl can't give me due to national security," Kara told her.

"Are you saying that my Pulitzer Prize winning reporter can't put together something by three o'clock?" Cat gave her a look.

"I can give you a great article by three o'clock – but not a multi-part article. I will not speculate on anything. When Supergirl nails Enigma – I'll get an exclusive interview with her explaining everything," Kara just made a promise she could of course keep – but only if they caught Enigma.

"Very good. Get me the single article. I'll look forward to the exclusive," Cat smiled.
