"And then what happened?"

"And then what happened?"

Thornkit took a deep breath as he sat in his mother's embrace, while facing Brambletuft who was looking concerned more and more. This had been his third visit since the dreams started, this last one leaving him in no better state. As the dark brown tabby looked up at his mother who nodded reassuringly, before he took another deep breath and turned back to the Medicine Cat.

"I could hear the sound of cats screaming, but the world was too dark to see who they were or what was happening." Thornkit explained, his pelt fluffing out self-consciously. "My paws were soaked, and water came up and engulfed me. That is all that happened in the dream."

Brambletuft nodded as she looked up above the dark tabby to his mother. "These certainly are not ordinary dreams…" she murmured concernedly.

Poppyheart used her paw to nudge Thornkit towards the entrance. "How about you return to your friends now, Brambletuft and I should speak in private." The russet colored she-cat mewed softly, Thornkit gazed behind him to see the worried look on his mother's face. As he hurried out, he stopped and hid in the corner to listen to the two she-cats speak.

It was a moment of silence beforeThornkit could hear his mother speak softly. "Does this mean that he will be a medicine cat?" he could hear the slight bit of concern in her mew.

"I cannot say for certain, sometimes kits show promise early on… but not all pathways are so forthcoming." Brambletuft answered, Thornkit backed away as the she-cat approached the entrance looking up at the sky. "The half moon is tonight, perhaps our ancestors can shine some light on all of this. I fear that I won't have any answers until tomorrow at the earliest, but if StarClan wishes it then yes… his paws will tread the healer's route."

Thornkit poked his head out slightly to watch the Healer turn to head back inside, Thornkit watched her leave before he dared to dart out from the shadows. Racing towards the corner of the camp beside the nursery, his paws scuttering to a halt before he looked over his shoulder in time to see Poppyheart stepping out. The russet colored she-cat glanced behind her before looking over at her son and a smile crossed her face.

As he watched his mother start heading over to them, he turned back to his other den mates. Fuzzykit bounded over to the dark tabby, his thick fur covered in debris of the camp wall he had made a tunnel through. Thornkit rolled his eyes as he nudged the young kit, the tortoiseshell tom chuckled as he pushed back. "Done with chatting with Brambletuft for a while?" the kit asked.

Thornkit nodded as he crossed towards where Coldkit was laying, the dark brown tabby sitting down beside the lilac tortoiseshell she-cat. She was playing with a small bundle of moss absent mindedly, but turned her head to look at him. "Hi…"

Thornkit leaned in as he settled in. "When you have those brief visions, do you ever feel like… you're not looking through your own eyes?"

Coldkit ducked her head as she looked down at the ground. "No, they usually feel like my own sights and mind." She answered softly, her gaze turned back to the dark brown tom. "Do your nightmares feel like they are?"

Thornkit nodded as he swished his tail to the right side. "Each one doesn't feel like I am seeing them through my own, they… feel like I am seeing someone else's story… that someone is trying to show me something." Thornkit answered as he shifted his paws, Fuzzykit and Birchkit had arrived beside the two. As Thornkit looked over his shoulder at the two, he sighed as he let them settle in to listen. "Brambletuft may be thinking I will have to become a medicine cat, and I feel that she might be right."

Birchkit nudged the dark tabby's side. "Is that what you want?"

Thornkit took a deep breath as he bunched his shoulders. "I want to be a warrior like Oakwhisker, and Poppyheart… but what if that is what StarClan wants?" Thornkit answered as he shuffled in the spot, he wouldn't mind being a healer… but he felt like he wanted to be a warrior more.

"Then tell Brambletuft that, no cat should decide for you!" Fuzzykit announced, as he puffed out his chest. "NO cat gets to tell me what I can and cannot be, and neither does anyone have the right to say the same to you!" the tortoiseshell tom rose up to his paws and glared over in the direction of the medicine cat den.

Birchkit settled her brother down and turned at the dark brown tabby. "He's not entirely wrong, what your future should be is your choice." Birchkit answered.

Coldkit shuffled beside the tom. "I don't feel like a warrior's life is quite for me either, and I think Brambletuft knows that." She muttered as she turned her shoulder. "I don't think she'd say no if you don't want to become a medicine cat, she's nice… I am sure she would understand that you want to be a warrior."

Thornkit sighed as he nudged the lilac tortoiseshell's side. "You're right… all of you." He said looking around at the other kits, but a heavy feeling in his chest.

'But what will StarClan say?'
