"What in the world?"
With the sound of an electrical explosion, we were flown away from the massive sakura tree. The world turns dark, the pink crystals break down into smaller pieces and hover around the lake, the gemstone under the sakura tree glows blue, and most importantly, the sakura tree loses its leaves and floats above the lake.
"Igo, are you okay?"
"Yeah. I have no problem. How about you?" Being hugged by a beautiful woman sure is nice, huh… Makes you almost forget that you had just been blown away by a massive explosion.
"I'm okay." With your barrier around us, I doubt anything will hurt us. We both stand up and look at the floating gigantic tree. "It's floating…" Fuck gravity, am I right? Mind teaching me how to do that, mister tree?
"What should we do, Ochi?" The low electronic buzzing sound in the air enhances the mystical atmosphere and makes the hairs on my neck stand up.
"I doubt my ability to handle this alone. Our top priority should be returning back to the castle." Good idea. How though? I am completely out of my element as in I don't know the geography of The Sakura Empire and nor do I know anything about sakuran magic. "Let's go, Igo. We should try to search for civilization. We can ask them where to go from there."
"Okay." I wonder what people are thinking right now. The day suddenly turns night, an EMP-like explosion happens in the distance, and now something is glowing on their horizon. They probably thought that this was a dream and went back to sleep. Now to see where people would likely to settle. "Hmm…" A lake like this one is likely where. Easy water and food. Who doesn't want to stay here? "I don't see anything noteworthy around here." Except for the tree, of course.
"Igo. Please stay close to me." The barrier around us suddenly glows brighter and thicker as Ochi grabs me and holds me tight. I was about to ask what she was doing but my words stuck in my throat when I noticed the encroaching dark miasma. It's coming from all directions and it's heading toward the sakura tree. "Mmhh!" The miasma washed over the barrier but didn't come inside. I don't know what this means but I don't think I like it.
Something's wrong, I can feel it.
Yeah!? So do I! If you have nothing to contribute than better shut up this is no time to be fucking about.

I'm feeling something familiar from the gemstone under the tree.
Oh for fuck sake… Getting there would be an absolute nightmare though!

AAAAHHHH! FOR GOODNESS SAKE! "Ochi, I think we should follow your earlier instinct and try to reach the gem of the tree. All the smoke seems to be going there. I wonder what they're aiming for."
"If that's what you think is necessary then I shall comply. But we always need to be together no matter what." She is much more clingy than even my girlfriend! I understand why but give me some breathing space, woman! "For safety." I know! I know! I love that I can feel your breast on me but I would love to walk in peace and not think about your boobs. "Ice block." Ochi performs the same ice-making spell as earlier. "Igo, let us go."
"Yeah." I hold on tightly onto Ochi and we walk down the ice bridge toward the tree. The miasma was all around the tree but not touching the tree as if the tree had a protective bubble around it.
"The tree has a defensive field around it. That's the safest place here." We really just assume the miasma as a bad thing, huh? I guess that's fair. I have a bad feeling about this miasma and Cubey saying something is an affirmation of that.
The moment I walked out of the miasma, my entire body felt 10 times better. Okay, that settles it! The miasma is a bad thing. Our walk becomes easier and faster and it takes no time for us to reach the tree.
"Oooh~~~" The light of the gemstone shines brightly but it doesn't sting my eyes. Its beauty is mesmerizing and inviting. "I want to touch it…" My hands rise up on their own and my feet walk move me forward. Ochi didn't try to stop me at all as I touched what could possibly be The Sakura Empire's most sacrilegious gemstone. "Ah!" The moment my palms touch the gemstone, roots of light instantly run down the gem.
"Igo, are you okay?" Ochi's tone tells me that she is worried out of her mind.
"Yeah… don't worry about it. I'm fine." My mind was filled with hazy visions of… somethings. Scenes of an expanding sea, the night starry sky, a busy dry dock, a bustling weapon factory, an ocean of war, a red dusk, and etc. This reminds me of the first time I touched a wisdom cube. Is this what Cubey meant by 'something similar'?
I pulled my hands away from the gem and something was glued to my right palm. A cube. A wisdom cube to be precise but there's something different about this one. There's no inner light to it. A normal wisdom cube is semi-transparent light blue with a light emitting center as if the small cube was containing a star. This one is just a semi-transparent clear cube.
"What is that?"
"A wisdom cube… I suppose…" I can't even convince myself that this is a wisdom cube from how different it feels in my hands. It's only missing its core and it feels so different.
That is because the core determines what the cube is. A wisdom cube stores data. An E-cube stores energy. The thing that determines that is the core. The cube itself is just an interface.
So what you mean is that you can insert your core into this cube and turn it into a wisdom cube?
Perhaps but why would you want to do that when you can just create a lot more wisdom cube by converting other materials?
Fair. So this means that this is a wisdom cube that lost its core?
Not necessarily. This could be any kind of cube for all we know. It's basically a corpse that has been completely burned so that it loses all of its fingerprints and ruins its DNA. This also means that its core is somewhere in this world so there's an orphaned core out there for this cube.
What could a core do without its cover?
Not a lot, probably. Imagine a core is an SSD storage unit and the cover is its connector. It's possible to write or read the content of the SSD without its connector but good luck.
Okay. So I just need to search for a lost small star-like object. Should be easy considering how weird it is.
"Igo." Ochi called my name while tugging on my clothes. "Something is coming." Oh no… I turn my head toward where Ochi is pointing and notice the mass of darkness rolling in from the horizon. It's thick darkness as in, you can't see past it unlike the miasma that had rolled in.
Hmm… Maybe there's a trace of what this cube is… Hey, insert a wisdom cube into the empty cube and I'll see what I can do.
I quickly snap a small stick from the sakura tree and turn it into a wisdom cubling. I then push it into the empty cube's wall and it readily accepts it. The cubling inside the empty cube glows as if it tries to become the empty cube's new core.
"Ultimate barrier." Ochi chants and the barrier around us grow even thicker. The mass of darkness comes closer and closer until they are at the edge of the lake and we can see that it's not a single mass of darkness but thousands of individuals. Monsters, vehicles, humanoids, animals, fliers, and etc. There are so many kinds of silhouettes that make up the darkness that it's hard to find 2 that resemble each other. "They're not coming?"
"The miasma had a hard time even coming close to the lake so it's possible that they can't get closer because of this sakura tree." If that's so then why are they coming here? They know they can't get close to the tree so there's no reason to come here. My answer comes not soon after with a thundering roar.
"RRRRRRRRRRRRRROOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRR!"
"Guh!" The world shook violently. Something is swimming on the dark clouds above us. Something massive and slithery. "What in the world?" 3 dragon heads make themselves known as they lower themselves from the clouds above us. Are they real? They look like they're made out of the black smokes as if they have no actual solid body. They have red glowing eyes that leave a trail everytime they move. The inside of their mouths is glowing white which contrasts heavily to their dark body. "What is that?"
"Igo." Ochi pushes herself in front of me before she starts chanting. Whatever she is trying to do, it has a long chant.
Hmm! This used to be a dream cube.
Cool! Can it help me in my current situation? Really need some help right now.
Without its core, it can't give you the full ability but I think I can access the possibility factors.
Cool! What do I do? Can I summon some shipgirls? I know how to summon shipgirls now!

I grab broken roots, rubbles, and chunks of crystals from the air and turn them into wisdom cubes. "Fuuuh… Haaah…" I calm myself down cause I don't want to ruin the process by being a stupid bitch. I cradle the wisdom cubes in my arms. "Please come to me." I close my eyes and whisper. Just like with the siren before, the cubes in my arms glow brighter and brighter before they all fly to the sky. The cubes arch down and fall around us in an explosion. When the explosions cease, shipgirls stand in their places. Although… not the girls that I recognized.
"Igo, what are you doing?"
"Trying to help our situation." The girls stand up and look at me. The closest to me was a stern woman in white military uniform with long red hair. She has a cane in her hand and is wearing a black coat with gold hem. "Mon–Ugh!" Something resembling a name popped up in my head when I saw her face but it wasn't complete. I can't bring myself to recall her name no matter how hard I try. This must be the side effects that Cubey said. "Can you help us?" No answer came from her. She just continued to look at me plainly.
They're basically robots in this state. I can only bring their body and riggings but not soul. Just look at this like a trial version of these shipgirls.
"Okay! Girls! Defend us from the mass of darkness!" The shipgirls around us line up and aim their weapon at the enemy.
"Yamata no Orochi." Ochi also has done chanting her spell. 8 giant snakes that are connected to one body emerge from the depth of the lake and coil themselves around the sakura tree. "Seiryu." It is now time for a serpent dragon made out of wood to come out of the water. "Tengu." Humanoid figures with long noses and crow's wings on their backs descend from the sky and perch on the sakura tree. They're all carrying weapons like long swords, katanas, bows, spears, short swords, daggers, and etc.
"RRRRRRROOOOOOOAAAAAAARRRRRR!" The middle head roared and the darkness crowd began their attack. Sadly for them, they immediately turn to ash the moment they come close to the lake.
"They're killing themselves." Indeed but,
"They're using themselves as shields." I guess the problem for them is the light and as long as the light didn't touch them, they're okay. The frontmost line becomes a shield for the line behind them. Creating shade in which everyone behind it is protected from the tree's light. "They're gaining ground." With each line of shadow creatures turning to ash, the darkness gains a centimeter against the tree. "Fire!" The shipgirls I summoned sail into battle with their riggings firing non-stop. Shells, torpedoes, and planes fly at the enemies, halting their progress.
"Attack." Ochi's summons begin their attack as well. The snake heads slither into the enemy lines and cut them up with their scales. The humanoid figures use their weapons to fight the dark figures. "Center." The wood dragon flies up to the sky and approaches the dark dragons. It opens its mouth and lunges at the center head only for the dark dragons to open their mouths and shoot beams at the incoming wooden dragon. "Kuh!"
That's so fucking cool but fuck that thing!
Seems like we need to deal with the dragons up above to end this mess.
Easier said than done. We only have a limited number of weapons that can reach that thing and even if they reach it, the dragons would just beam them out of existence.
If you can find enough energy, maybe I can manifest myself the same way the shipgirls did. I just need a lot more than the girls do.
Where the fuck am I going to find that?!
As I fight against the voice in my head, the light that illuminates us this whole time comes to view. I don't like where my mind is going right now.

"Seiryu." Ochi calls her wooden dragon once again. After the first one has been completely destroyed. I wonder how long she can keep this up. My shipgirls are also in a stalemate with the force of darkness. "Suzaku." A big ball of flame is seen barreling toward us from the south before exploding right above our heads and what stands in its place is a flaming pheasant with some very colorful plumage. "Byakko." A lot of red leaves fall from the sky toward us and they fall onto the water surface in one huge clump.
"RRRRRROOOOOOAAAAARRRR!" A tiger's roar is heard from deep inside the lump of leaves and it makes itself known once again with its loud roar as a big white tiger bursts out of the leaves. "RRRROOOOOAAAAAARRRRRR!" Pure white fur with black stripes, menacing fangs that almost make it look like a sabertooth tiger instead, and fluffy face. I want to hug it.
"Genbu." A massive chunk of black ice floats from the depth of the lake and hovers right above the lake. The ice begins to crack the next moment and out comes a big tortoise with a jet black shell with a snake wrapped around it. The snake also has jet black scales which make this summon the complete opposite of the tiger. "Kirin." The instant Ochi finished the name, a huge golden thunder struck in front of us. A creature covered by golden scales with a muscled horse body, ferocious dragon head, sharp antlers, and glistering majestic manes.
"Woah…" What a powerful collection of animals Ochi has.

Ochi just looked at me with a confused expression which made it easy for me to explain what Cubey had been advising me to do. "So what do you think? I understand if you don't want me to proceed."
"I'm okay." Eh? "No matter what happened. I will defend you until my last breath." Uuuhh… I don't want to be a baggage to Ochi but I definitely don't want to make her situation even worse. "Please do what you think it's right."
"Ugh… I'm sorry for this, Ochi." I have her permission so there's nothing stopping me. I place my hands on the massive gemstone and let the roots spread out throughout the gem. Cubey, you better stay true to your words. "Haaaaah…" The roots keep on growing and growing and they eventually cover the entirety of the gem. "Fuuuh… Haaaah…"
The gem shines brightly until it is so bright that we can only see its silhouette. The silhouette shrinks and deforms from its jagged form into a human body. "How hard was that, huh?" I hate how similar our voices are.
"I'll answer that if we make it out of here alive." From the blinding light, come out me. It feels so fucking weird seeing him in real life like this. Everytime we come face to face is in a dream sequence or something like that. "Now do what you promise me and protect us!"
"Fine." *SNAP* Cubey snaps his fingers and his body begins to glow the same light as the gemstone from before. Thankfully, it's not just the color of the light but also the effect. The army of darkness is being kept at bay by Cubey's light. "See? I can do something as simple as this."
"RRRRRRRRRROOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRR!" Oh great, Cubey pisses off the dragons. The dragons open their mouths wide open and the light inside their mouths glow brighter and brighter as they charge their breath attack.
"You better have a way of stopping that!"
"Of course. You can do it too if you want to." Huh? I don't understand what he meant. What can a normal human like me do to stop a breath attack from the three dragon heads. "Come." Cubey walks toward the dragon heads with his hands raised up and front toward the dragon heads.
"RRRRRRRRRRROOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRR!" The dragons shoot their beams in unison at Cubey. The beams combine into a single tube of light that is quickly approaching Cubey.
"Heh!" Cubey just chuckles as his hands absorb the powerful beam. The big tube ray of light that easily destroys the wooden dragon before just got absolutely swallowed by Cubey via his hands. "Thanks for the meal, dumbass~~" The beam dwindled down into nothingness as if Cubey forcefully pulled it out of the dragons. "Igo, do you have any idea how to defeat this thing?"
"Huh? Me? I thought you would! This is your expertise."
"And I want to pass my knowledge to you, dummy."
"You're not passing any knowledge right now! I can't absorb the beam with my hands! I can't glow in the dark! And I can't form myself out of a gemstone!"
"I taught you how to turn materials into wisdom cubes, no?"
"You want me to turn a beam of light that could easily burn me to oblivion into wisdom cubes!? Are you fucking serious!?"
"Hey, if I can do it then so do you. You just need more training or you'll have to rely on having a large amount of energy nearby to summon me everytime. Can you do that?"
"Kuh!" He is right and I hate that. "So do you want me to turn the dragons into wisdom cubes?"
"You can't reach them." No fucking shit, Sherlock! "Better try something else."
"RRRRRROOOOOOOAAAAAAARRRRRRRR!"
"Shut up." The dragons shoot another beam and the same thing happens again.
"Do they ever run out of energy by using that beam over and over again?"
"They'll run out of energy but it'll take a long time. Dunno if you like doing nothing for a long time." No, definitely not. "You better think of a way of defeating this then."
"I'm trying. Hmm…" I watch the battlefield in front of me and try to come up with a way of hitting those hovering dragon heads. None of the shipgirls' shells could reach all the way up there. Not even the battleships could flung their shells to reach the dragons' lower jaws. An iron blood battleship with short hair and a scythe weapon tries to fire her guns up only for it to hit one of the fliers. "Ul–guh!" I try to call out to the battleship only for my brain to break down. Seriously! This is annoying!
"Igo." Ochi concernedly patted my shoulders. "Are you okay?"
"Yeah. No worries. I'm just thinking about how to attack the dragons." It's a lot more annoying when you can't approach your targets. "Do you have any idea, Ochi?"
"Hmmm…" Ochi brings her hands forward and a stream of water rises from the lake into her palms, creating a ball of water in front of her. The ball rotates in place and shrinks at the same time before Ochi yells. "Water bullets." The water ball explodes and flies toward the dragon. The water projectile flies in the sky before one of the enemy's fliers sacrifice itself to intercept it. "Ah…"
"It's not that easy, isn't it?"
"No. I try to do it like her." Ochi points her finger at a sakuran ship. She has long white hair and is wearing a white kimono. The ridiculous thing about her outfit is that she is wearing a stupidly huge coat and has 2 bizarrely long katanas. What is she trying to compensate for? She has some pretty big boobs! "She unleashes a slash of energy earlier that gets pretty close."
"Mmmhhh~~" Energy, huh… Both Cubey and Unz– "Kuh!" Stupid brain! Whatever! Energy based attacks seem to be the one I need to use. "Cubey, can you power up a shipgirl?"
"Normal ones, yes. These ones, not necessarily." Well fuck! Then how am I going to attack the dragons? I can't do a Kamehameha beam, can't I? I'll need a source of energy and some way of controlling it. Source of energy, eh…
"Cubey, can I use a wisdom cube as an energy source?"
"Yeah. Without an appropriate interpreter, a wisdom cube's output is just energy."
"Can I destroy only one of its sides?"
"Yeah. I see what you're trying to do and I'm going to let you." Cubey grips the air and a wisdom cube appears in his palm. Why do I need solid materials to make a wisdom cube and he just poofs one out of thin air? I want to be able to do that! "Here, go crazy."
"I'll die if I go crazy with this." I hold the wisdom cube in my hands. Eyes lock onto the glowing cube. "Haaah… Fuuuh…" Calm yourself down, Igo. Don't think about anything else other than what is necessary. Your friends have your back and you won't get hurt.
"Storm." Ochi casts another spell and rain begins to fall from the sky. At first it was a small drizzle and eventually it grew into a vicious storm. Magically, the storm doesn't affect me or the shipgirls at all. It only affects the enemy and makes their movement more sluggish and causes the fliers to go all over the place. "Choking Forest." Another spell was casted and a forest grew rapidly under the shadow army feets. With the combination of the storm and forest, the shadow army's advance is greatly reduced. "Hah… Hah… Hah…" In exchange for Ochi's stamina of course. I need to stop worrying and delaying everything.
"Haaaaaaaaaaahh… Fuuuuuuh… Haaaaaah… Fuuuuuh…" Close my eyes and clear my mind. Imagine the wisdom cube in my hand with all of its characteristics. Its semi-transparent light blue walls and its star-like core. "Haaaaaaah… Fuuuuuuh… Haaaaaah… Fuuuuuuh…" I open my eyes and carefully touch one of the cube's sides with my fingers and let the light root take a hold of that side. Now, I just need to disassemble it carefully. "Haaaah… Fuuuuh…"
"RRRRRRRRROOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRR!"
"Ah!" While I was focusing on the wisdom cube in my hands, the dragons suddenly roared and fired another beam at us. Incidentally, I take my eyes off the wisdom cube while I'm deconstructing one of the wisdom cube's sides. "WAIT!"

"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!"
"Ah…"
"Be careful with that."
When the side of the cube breaks, a torrent of energy just comes blasting through like a waterhose but instead of coming from a tap, the water comes from a dam. The opposite force acting on my body is genuinely so big that I was blown away and smashed my back on the sakura tree behind me.
"GGGGGGAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!" Even when my back is on the tree, the force is still ridiculously powerful that I'm having a hard time pushing my hands away from me. At the very least, the beam manages to match the dragons' beam. "FFFUUUCCCKKK!"
"Come on man. You won't know what to attack if you are buried into the tree." I'M FUCKING TRYING! If you really want to kill the dragons then do it yourself, asshole!
"GGGGGAAAAAAHHHHH!" I squirm myself into a more comfortable position and then push my upper body forward. "UUUUGGGHHH!" My elbows and shadow blades are going to hurt so bad once this adrenaline wears off.

"AAAAAAHHHH!" I'm having the world heaviest sit up right now with how hard my stomach has to pull my upper body forward. "KUH!" After struggling for a while, I finally managed to return back to my feet but of course, I still needed to hold the back force. "Now what?!"
"Overpower the dragons' beam of course."
"How?!" I'm trying my fucking best here! How am I going to do anything other than standing on my feet!?
"Open the hole bigger, of course~~"
"I'll be blown away!" Just this much is already pretty hard for me to take. More of this and I'll turn into a missile. Maybe I can attack the dragons like that.
"That's because you're not doing it right." Yeah, no shit! This is my first time, dumbass. "Come on, Igo. You're better than this." How in the hell do you know?! I've never done this before! "You can learn and adapt easily to something that no one has ever done before. You're the epitome of humanity's ability to adapt and learn."
"Compliments are good and all but what I need right now is a way to win!" The dragons' beam is growing stronger. It seems that they want to end this as much as I do. "GGUUHH!"
"Igo, you're far better than this. I know you know what to do." I don't know if I can stand it though. I know he wants me to open the wisdom cube wider than this. "You're capable of more than this. You are THE Igo." What the fuck does he mean by that? "Now grit your teeth!"
"KKKKKHHHHH!"
"Plant your feet!"
"GGUUH!"
"AND EAT THAT HORSE!"
"AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!" There's no way out of this mess other than winning and there's no way of winning other than opening the wisdom cube even bigger so that's what I do. I just stop thinking about what could happen and just let it rip. "AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!"
"RRRRRRRRRRROOOOOOAAAAAAARRRRR!" The dragons' beam didn't stand a chance once the floodgate was open. My beam quickly overpowers them. "RRRRRROOOOOAAAARRRR!" The middle head was the first one that got taken out as it is in the path of my beam. "RRRRRROOOOOOAAAAAARRRRR!" The next one to go was the right head. With the head's number dwindling, it becomes easier and easier for me to kill them. "RRRRRRROOOOOOAAAAA–" The last head tried its best to wiggle its way around but with its size, it couldn't dodge for long and eventually succumbed to my beam.
"Now what?!" The beam in my hands is still going even after all the heads are gone.
"Fire it to the sky until it runs out." I did what Cubey told me to. The beam in my hands continues on for what seems like an hour before it dim out of existence. "Ow! That's a nasty burn."
"Ah… Ah…" I look at the palm of my hands and just like Cubey said, my palms are burnt. There's barely any skin left. The adrenaline dampens the pain so I don't feel it at all. "This is going to be a nightmare to deal with." And also explaining to Stella.
"Igo." Ochi comes to me with a worried look. "Your hands, let me heal them." Water from the lake comes to Ochi's hands and then she puts her hands on mine.
"Kkkkkhhhhh!" It sting like hell as if there were thousands of ants in my hands. I grit my teeth and tank the sensation. "Fuuuuh…" The water bubble wraps itself around mine and Ochi's hands before it starts to glow a dim blue light. "Oooohhhh…" The stinging sensation goes away quickly and is replaced by a cold soothing sensation.
"Heal." The skins on my hands peeled away little by little before a new set of skin shortly grew to cover my hands. "This should do it for now. I will continue the healing process when we get back." Eh? This isn't healed yet?! It feels new to me. I looked at my hands and didn't notice anything weird.
"Ah… How do we get back anyway?" We come here via the gemstone under the sakura tree but right now, there's no gemstone anymore. It got turned into an asshole.
"Don't worry. That's my job." Well Cubey is made out of the gemstone. If anything is going to bring us back it will be The Gemstone "We just need to deal with the remaining army."
