Hello Everyone. Here is the fourth chapter of this story. I hope you will enjoy it. :)
When the sun rises in the light blue sky the next morning, Judy happily jumps out of her bed in excitement. She has been looking forward to this day, especially when it is a day her uncle has something planned for her as she is looking forward to seeing what he has in store for her. Speaking of her uncle however, she notices he is not up to greet her like how he usually does as she slowly makes her way to his bedroom in order to check on him.
She silently enters his room where she searches for him, before noticing he is still sleeping inside of his bed. She can see her aunt Ellie caressing him, before she is noticed by the older rabbit as Ellie smiles at the sight of her niece until she begins walking over to her to check up on her. The two share a hug together, until they settle for holding each other's paws as they begin to talk to each other about why Josh isn't out of bed like he normally would.
"He's upset with your parents, they've argued" Ellie said, nodding to herself sadly. "I heard it all the way from up here, I'm sure you heard it too."
"Yeah, I heard it too, aunt Ellie, it was so loud" Judy said, becoming very worried. "I really do hope he will be ok though, it's not like him to be upset."
"I know, but he will be ok, we are here for him" Ellie said, caressing Judy's cheek. "Well, I'll be taking the kids to school, can you watch him for me?"
Judy nods her head in affirmative to her aunt's own words, which results in Ellie smiling at her favourite niece. When she lets go of her niece's paws, Ellie goes to her kids in a desperate hope to make sure they are ready to go to their school in hopes of getting them there on time again. After the kids are all ready, she takes them to school right out the front door while Judy makes her way towards her uncle's bed until she get up onto it before she starts wake up her uncle by tickling him.
"Wakey, wakey, Uncle Josh, it's time to get up" Judy said, she giggles in pure delight. "We've got big things to do today, remember, Uncle Josh?"
"I haven't forgotten, cutie-pie, I do remember" Josh said, he laughs joyfully in response. "Besides, we need to start your early training to become a Police Officer."
"Really? You are actually going to train me?" Judy said, her smile grows quickly in size. "But you said it yourself, you're not a cop in a way like a Police Officer is."
"You're right, but I'm still a investigator, kid" Josh said, he nods in agreement with Judy. "I may not be able to make arrests, though I can still teach you the basics."
"Yippee! Thank you Uncle Josh! Thank you!" Judy said, she hugs her uncle in pure joy. "So? When we are going to start? This early training of mine, Uncle Josh?"
"After I get up, brush my teeth, dressed" Josh said, he takes the time to think about it. "But first however, I need to return the tickle you've given me, Judy."
Judy quickly finds herself pulled into her uncle's arms, before he starts to tickle her all over her small body. The action causes Judy to squeal with joy, before she tries to return it with the two bunnies spending much of their time tickling each other until they decide to get ready for the day. They brush their teeth, wash their face and they start dressing up with Josh wearing a dark brown tweed suit with a red tie including his Grey Fedora hat again.
Judy decides to wear her Police Officer costume again, which is no surprising considering she really likes it. The two bunnies both race to the kitchen, though the result is Josh in first place with his niece in second place as they both share the moment together with Stu and Bonnie watching. The latter smiles in joy, seeing her brother-in-law has come back to being his usual happier self thanks to her daughter as she begins to put food and drinks on the table for the family.
After spending time celebrating the race win with Judy, Josh goes to get his niece's 275 siblings out of bed. While her uncle goes to get her siblings, Judy sits at her place on the table as she begins to start eating the food consisting of carrots with mash potato along with peas all in gravy. Her parents sit down too, though all three of them wait for Josh as well as Judy's 275 siblings to make their way to the kitchen before their food begins to go cold.
"Mom, Dad, why was uncle Josh upset last night?" Judy said, turning her attention to Stu and Bonnie. "I heard him get angry, which isn't usually like him."
"Oh, uh, well, we were having a talk together" Bonnie said, she tries to explain it all politely to Judy. "The topic was about foxes, your uncle is defending them."
"I don't get it, why does he always do that?" Stu said, trying to make sense of Josh's previous outburst. "I understand he has a friend who's a fox, but the rest."
"Apparently, he doesn't like discrimination" Bonnie said, she decides to stand up for her absent brother-in-law. "It makes sense, especially in the way he had reacted."
"Especially, when it comes to Biology itself" Stu said, he starts to think more deeply on the matter. "The way he reacted, when biology was mentioned last night."
While her parents continue to argue among themselves, Judy is thinking more about what she has learned. Her uncle dislikes discrimination, which would explain why he had reacted in the way he did in his conversation with both Bonnie and Stu last night while she and her siblings slept. It's not the only thing either, due to the fact she heard Josh has a friend who is a fox as this combined with the bedtime story he told her starts to make complete sense.
She is still deep in thought on these very revelations, when her uncle and siblings start entering the kitchen. Josh is still in a cheerful mood, until he sees Judy thinking deeply with a concerned facial expression as he wonders about what could be causing Judy to be thinking so deeply now. He turns his focus to Bonnie, who looks at him and nods her head slowly in acknowledgement of the fact she has told Judy about his outburst during their talk last night.
When he finally takes his seat at the end of the table, he begins to eat his food in a very slow careful manner. After he finishes eating his food, he looks at Judy with the latter looking up at him with a smile as he returns it before they decide to go out for a walk together to clear their minds. After saying their goodbyes, the duo begin the walk out of the front door with Josh closing the door as they walk down the path next to the road with Judy on Josh's left side.
"What is it, Judy? It's clear you have something on your mind" Josh said, choosing to break the silence. "If you have any worries, you can always tell me, kid."
"I understand, Uncle Josh, thank you, I've just been thinking" Judy said, she slowly turns to look at Josh. "Is it true, that you have a friend who is actually a fox?"
"Yes, it's true, it was a female fox, she was a good friend too" Josh said, he sighs at the thought of her. "The last time I saw her, she had given birth to a cub son."
"Awww, that's lovely to hear, she must have been very proud" Judy said, she watches Josh nod his head. "Did she tell you his name? She must have told you, surely."
"Unfortunately, that was the last thing I ever heard from her" Josh said, he feels tears forming in his eyes. "We had exchanged letters regularly, until she'd stopped."
"I'm so sorry, uncle Josh, that you had to go through all that" Judy said, she tries her best to comfort Josh. "Did you get an explanation? About why she'd stopped?"
"No, I didn't get anything, there was just no explanation, kid" Josh said, he tenderly taps Judy's shoulder. "Thanks for comforting me, Judy, it means a lot, really."
Judy smiles up at her uncle with the latter returning it, before they go on to share a long heartfelt hug together. They stay embraced for a minute, until they release their grip on each other as they begin to slowly make their way back home to rejoin Bonnie and Stu as well as Judy's siblings. It is during this walk home, Judy decides now it's the time to talk to Josh about why he continues to defend foxes from others with a negative view of foxes such as her parents.
"Also, Uncle Josh, I want to ask you a very strange question" Judy said, she turns her head to face her uncle. "Why do you defend foxes, unlike mom and dad?"
"I defend them, Judy, because I can see myself in all of them" Josh said, he looks at his niece with a smile. "From the happy kid, all the way to the grumpiest adult."
"Oh, I guess that does make sense, there's more to them all" Judy said, she watches her uncle nod his head. "Plus the fact, you also have a friend who is a fox too."
"Definitely, there's also the fact I can see you in the children" Josh said, he thinks about what he says next. "When I'm protecting them, it's like I'm protecting you."
Judy smiles at the point her uncle is making to her, she nods in agreement to what he is saying about the foxes. When they have returned home, they are greeted by Stu and Bonnie with the two smiling at them both as the four hug each other before Judy goes off to play with her siblings. While she is busy doing that, Josh gestures to his sister-in-law well as his brother to join him at the table with the three adults sitting in silence before Josh speaks up.
"Um, listen Bonnie and Stu, I'm sorry for my big outburst" Josh said, he looks at Bonnie and Stu in the eyes. "I'm just frustrated, that you're judging foxes unfairly."
"We understand, Josh, plus it's ok to get frustrated at times" Bonnie said, she gently touches Josh's left paw. "I don't blame you, it's just, I'm concerned for Judy."
"So am I, also, I'm sorry for being all judging you too, Josh" Stu said, he looks at his brother with remorse. "I'm just scared for Judy, when it comes to foxes."
"I understand, Stu, especially after what Gideon Grey did" Josh said, he looks at Stu before touching Bonnie's paw. "Right now however, Judy needs us to get along."
Bonnie and Stu both nod their heads in agreement, knowing he is right about them getting along for Judy's sake. Unknown to them however, Judy notices her parents and her uncle are reconciling with each other at last with the sight making her smile as she knows their bond will be stronger. After witnessing the sight, she returns to playing with all of her brothers and sisters in the knowledge both her uncle and parents are going to be getting along again.
While Judy is busy playing with all of her siblings, Josh and Bonnie along with Stu smile at them enjoying themselves. It isn't long after that, when Stu decides to join in on all the fun as the sight of him having a good time with the kids making his wife and brother have a fit of laughter. After they were done laughing, Josh and Bonnie decide to have a private conversation between just the two of them as they needed to talk to each other about Judy.
"You're her hero, she looks at you like a role model, Josh" Bonnie said, she smiles at her brother-in-law. "I can see it, just by the way she interacts with you."
"Yeah, she definitely does, I'm happy for her, you know" Josh said, he returns the smile at his sister-in-law. "Plus, I told Judy about me training her to be a cop."
"Honestly, I was afraid that was going to happen, Josh" Bonnie said, her smile slowly begins to falter away. "It's not I don't trust you, it's just a dangerous job."
"I agree, it is very dangerous, that's why I'll train her" Josh said, he tenderly touches Bonnie's paw again. "I'll teach her the basics, the academy will do the rest."
"Agreed, plus, you must promise me one thing, Josh" Bonnie said, she looks into her brother-in-law's brown eyes. "When she becomes a cop, just protect her."
"I will, though I will also let her be independent too" Josh said, he pats his sister-in-law's paw three times. "Besides, if she needs my help, I'm only a call away."
Bonnie slowly nods her head in understanding, knowing if anyone can protect Judy in her future job it's Josh himself. The two bunnies smile at each other, until they turn their attention to see Stu getting tickled by the kids with the sight making the adult bunnies laugh like children themselves. After having done enough watching, they decide to join in on the future as they spend the rest of the morning having fun in taking turns tickling the kids with smiles on their faces.
Awww, It's nice to see the whole family enjoy themselves :)
