A/N: Shout outs to my anonymous reviewer and James Birdsong! Glad you liked it! Luckily, the wedding went off without a hitch. Coming up though... ;)
Chapter 5
The next morning dawned a little too early and the knocking on the bedroom door made Fiyero groan. Elphaba groaned too but she managed to open the door, just enough to stick her head out into the hallway. It was Glinda and somehow the blonde was just as perky as ever.
"Why are you so… so… you?" Elphaba gave her a look. The green woman's hair was all over the place.
"I'm going on my honeymoon! You have the keys to the castle. Have fun while we're gone!" with that the blonde disappeared down the hall. Elphaba closed the door and flopped back down on the bed. It wasn't long before there was another knock on the door. They both groaned but Elphaba got up and opened the door.
"Ma'am," it was Sergeant Schultz. He and Damla had returned to the Emerald City for the wedding and because they had a decision to make regarding where they would serve – with the Gale Force or with the Vinkun Army.
"Timothy… what could possibly need our attention?" She asked, still only sticking her head out of the door.
"I'm afraid I don't know ma'am. Councilman Barat has called a Council meeting," he admitted.
"That doesn't sound good given how much they were partying as well," Elphaba perked up.
"My thoughts exactly. Mr. Samuels has given me his hangover cure for you two. How long should I tell Councilman Barat you need to be down for the meeting?" The Sergeant wondered.
"Give me the cure and tell him thirty minutes," she said.
"Yes ma'am," he said, handing her two clear glass bottles that contained some sort of orange-colored liquid.
"Also, what'd I say about 'ma'am'?" She gave him a look.
"You're the temporary leader of Oz so ma'am it is. Though there is something that I must say…" he trailed off and Elphaba could see that he was nervous.
"Whatever it is, just promise me you won't name your first born after me," she teased him to break the moment. He smirked and said,
"Damla said that without you and Fiyero we would not have met. It would be something that we would consider. My family fell apart and when I had none, you and Prince Fiyero stepped up to help. I very much feel that you're my family. That Corporal Roth is my family too." Elphaba left the room, despite her state, clad only in her pajamas, and threw her arms around his neck. The bottles clanked together.
"Family isn't always blood – sometimes family is the people you choose, who choose you back," she told him.
"Agreed," Fiyero was at the door and pulled the two into a hug as well.
"You're adorable, but Councilman Barat is waiting," Boq had somehow snuck up on them.
"We need to get ready," Elphaba said, handing Fiyero one of the bottles, and suddenly feeling exposed despite her body covering nightwear.
"I've got Mopsi and Popsi holding him off at the pass," Boq winked.
"We'll be as fast as we can," Fiyero waggled his eyebrows before pulling his wife to be back into their room as she closed the door. Boq shook his head and chuckled.
"I never thought she'd be this happy. I never thought I'd be happy to see it," he admitted.
"Family isn't always blood Master Boq. I know that Miss Elphaba takes things to heart and she carries everything with her. You are her oldest friend, though I imagine you're more family than you think," the Sergeant smiled at him and headed back down to the Council Room.
