Fifty two years later

Zane- 118

Cole- 97

Kai- 96

Jay- 95

Lloyd- 94

Nya- 94

The doors of the Ninjago City hospital fly open as a green blurr rushes inside. His clothes look as if he slept in them, and his hair isn't much better.

He runs down the hall, tearing past doctors and nurses alike with speed that one wouldn't expect from a man of ninety four years. He arrives at a door which three other people are already outside of. Panting slightly, he takes a moment to catch his breath before looking at the others and asking, "I'm not too late, right?"

A man with hair that has long since gone gray but still stands in its iconic spiky style, shakes his head, saying, "No, Jay's with him right now, and Zane's already seen him. Just you, me, and Nya are left."

Lloyd sighs in relief before sadly looking at his lifelong friends. Seeing just how much wear and tear time has had on them. They're all mostly in their nineties by now, but none of them truly look like it.

Kai still has his eye scar and wears his hair the same, but wrinkles on his face and hands show just how old he is, not to mention his now all gray hair - after he finally gave up trying to keep it its original chocolate brown color -. But he can still get around pretty easily, even with his back problems, derived from a lifetime of doing flips and getting slammed into various walls.

Zane probably looks the most unchanged out of all of them, despite him being the oldest by far. All that has changed with him is new scratches and dents on his metal body, similar to the scars that all of them share.

Nya has taken up dyeing her hair to keep it's dark gray color. That alone makes her look much younger. But the crows feet around her eyes and the smile lines around her mouth betray her true age.

Lloyd looks down at himself, he still looks the same, even after fifty two years. His blond hair is still silky and gray free. His skin is still wrinkleless. And he still has the agility and speed of his youth.

The door opens and Jay exits, tears slipping down his face as he sniffles and tries to wipe them away.

"Oh, hey Lloyd." He says, giving his friend a small smile.

"You're next Kai." He says, turning to the former red ninja. Kai nods and quietly slips inside the room, closing the door gently behind him.

Jay walks over to Nya and almost collapses in her arms. Tears falling on his wife's shoulder as he silently cries. His fluffy hair that he always prided himself in has thinned out somewhat, along with losing its auburn color. His hearing aids are actually in his ears for once, usually he forgets them and Nya has to basically put them in herself. The former blue ninja started going deaf after being exposed to too much thunder and explosions. Making sense since he was once the master of lightning.

After a short time, Kai comes back out, motioning to Nya that it's her turn next. She reluctantly pulls away from her husband, giving him a gentle kiss on his temple as she does so. She enters the room and Kai shuts the door behind her before making his way over to Lloyd.

"Hey Greenbean." He says, ruffling Lloyd's hair with one hand and trying to smile, but ultimately failing.

Lloyd doesn't respond, instead he pulls Kai into a hug, knowing that he needs it, even if the older man would never admit to it. Once Lloyd has both of his arms around him, Kai drops his head onto the blond's shoulder, his own shaking as he tries to hold back tears. Lloyd rubs his best friend's back gently as he cries.

After he's done, Lloyd leads Kai over to a nearby chair and has him sit down, telling him to rest so as to not aggravate his back. He also goes over to Jay and does the same, guiding him to a chair next to Kai.

Just as he finishes getting Jay seated, Nya comes out, whispering to Lloyd as she passes him, "It's your turn." and going over to her brother and husband to sit with them.

Lloyd takes a deep breath as he turns to face the door. Once he musters up the courage, he walks over and opens it, closing it softly behind him as he steps in. The sound of a heart monitor fills the room and Lloyd tries to ignore it, choosing instead to focus on the man lying in the bed.

His hair had once been coal black, but now it's more like a dark gray, still mostly full, but has been thinning out over recent years. When he was younger he had been the strongest and biggest out of them all, but now, in old age, he has begun to shrink, and his muscles also have also lost a lot of their definition over the past few months.

"Hey, Lloyd." The raspy voice draws Lloyd out of his head and back to the present. He quickly makes his way over to the bed, saying, "Hey Cole, how're you feeling?"

Cole grins a little and says, "Like an old man. Oh wait, I am one." he chuckles at his own joke. Lloyd can't help but smile, glad to see that even in his current state, his friend hasn't lost his sense of humor yet.

"How're Kera and the others doing?" Cole asks.

Lloyd instantly perks up, eagerly telling his old comrade all about their former students. Recalling how they had begun to train their own successors and were preparing to pass on their elements to them. While he's in the middle of describing their latest mission, a coughing fit from Cole interrupts him. Immediately Lloyd is at his side, holding up a cup of water for him to drink.

Cole sighs as he pushes the cup away after taking a sip. "It's almost time." He whispers.

"I'll go get the others." Lloyd says, standing up to call their other friends in, but a hand on his arm makes him pause and look down.

Cole looks up at him and motions for him to sit. Warily, Lloyd sits down, watching the former black ninja's face carefully.

Cole clears his throat and says, "Lloyd, I know this is going to be hard for everyone. But I know it's going to be especially hard for you." he stops as another coughing fit wracks his body, Lloyd hurriedly grabs the cup of water, but Cole waves him away. Continuing, he says, "I know you can make it through this. I believe that you will continue to thrive, even after we're all gone. So please, for my sake, don't let my death destroy you. Otherwise I'll be forced to haunt you forever, and you know I'd hate being a ghost again."

A small smile breaks out on Lloyd's face as he imagines a grumpy ghost Cole following him around the Monastery.

Cole falls into another coughing fit, though this one lasts much longer than the other two. Small specks of blood appear on the hand he uses to cover his mouth. After it passes, he leans back and says, "It's time, Lloyd. I can sense my parents now, they're waiting for me."

Lloyd nods, tears starting to fill up his eyes as he walks over to the door and sticks his head out. Immediately the others all turn to look at him, and he takes a shaky breath before saying quietly, "It's time guys."

One by one they all walk into Cole's room. Jay immediately goes over to his bedside, already crying. Cole tries his best to comfort his lifelong best friend, even going so far as to gently pet Jay on the head. Soon the former lightning master falls silent, occasionally sniffling here and there. Cole turns his head to look at each of his friends, his comrades, his family.

He takes a breath and then begins to speak, "Hey guys, I know this is going to be hard for everyone. But I've lived a long and happy life, though at times dangerous. But that's the life of a ninja. And I couldn't have asked for better friends to spend it with."

He looks at Jay, "Jay, from the first moment you opened your mouth when Master Wu brought you to the Monastery, I knew we were destined to be best friends. You've always been there with a smile and a joke, no matter how dire the situation. I couldn't have asked for a better best friend."

He turns to Nya next, "Nya, even though you started out as just Kai's sister, you quickly proved that you were so much more. When I was down in the dumps after I turned into a ghost, you came and convinced me that life was still worth living, even though it didn't seem like I had one to live."

He looks to Kai next, "Kai, I remember when you first became a ninja, you were determined to be a lone wolf. But as time went by you started to open up more, and I finally got to see the hilarious goofball that was hiding under that prickly shell. You were always up for a game of Lava Zombies, even though I would always beat you."

He faces Zane next, "Zane, I am infinitely glad that you were our white ninja. I can't imagine coming back from a long mission and not having one of your signature cookies or brownies. And you always knew exactly what kind of comfort food I needed whenever I was sad."

And finally he looks at Lloyd, "Lloyd, when I first met you, I'm not gonna lie, you were a very annoying kid. But little did I know that you would grow to be one of my closest friends and the greatest leader I've ever had the honor of following into battle. You're a true friend Lloyd, and I'm so glad I got to be one of your protectors."

Each of the former ninja are basically in tears after Cole finishes his speeches. As the former master of earth smiles at his friends, his heart slows and his breathing becomes quieter and quieter. And when his eyes start to close, he can see the shimmering outlines of his parents by his bedside, waiting to guide him to the afterlife.

His last words are these, "Goodbye guys, I'll see you all soon."
