(6)-Goodbye, Mom.

Later, Kyle came downstairs with his brown backpack on and a black duffle-bag wrapped around his left shoulder. After finishing breakfast, he headed back upstairs to get dressed and to pack for his trip. Kyle had packed everything now. He took his sweet time. This was an emotional moment for him. He had been on vacations with his family before, but never anything like this.

Kyle wore a black sleeveless tank top undershirt, black fingerless gloves, black pants and brown/black foxelli hiking-boots, with the laces cross-tied and tucked into them like the previous boots he'd been wearing earlier. It wasn't that he was too lazy to tie his boots/shoes, it was just a style he liked. It had been that way ever since he was 13. The only style his Mom had let him get away with, hard as that was to believe.

When he made it downstairs, Kyle saw his mother sitting on the sofa in the living-room, waiting for him, dressed in his red/white-striped 50s Diner waitress short sleeve-short skirt uniform, with clear stockings that covered her whole legs, and red/white-striped ankle-strapped high heel shoes. She also had on pink lipstick.

Phyllis got up from the sofa and slowly stepped over to Kyle and adjusted the backpack on his shoulders and giving him motherly touches. "Are you sure you wanna do this?" She asked with the softest voice imaginable.

Kyle nodded slowly. "I'm sure."

"I-i just...i was hoping you'd think about college after you finished high school." Phyllis admitted lowly.

"College isn't going anywhere for me. It's not for everybody. This is what i wanna do, Mom." Kyle said. Clearly his mother hadn't given up on her reservations. This frustrated the boy inwardly.

"Okay, okay." Phyllis said. "Did you brush your teeth?"

"Yes." Kyle answered.

"Wash your face, floss, rinse with mouthwash?" Phyllis asked.

"Yes, yes, yes." Kyle said.

"(Sighs) Good, good." Phyllis said, relieved. "What about your band?"

"I told them before last night, they get it. We're still gonna work on our stuff over the internet and stuff, we'll be alright." Kyle insisted.

A long bit of silence overtook the room. And now Phyllis had tears in her eyes before she hugged Kyle tightly. "Just...be safe, alright? I love you." She said before kissing him on the left cheek.

"I love you too." Kyle said back, smiling. At least his mother wasn't forcing him to do something he didn't want to do. Although part of him wondered if the reason she was so scared was because one of her sons had left her before.

Kyle pulled back, ending the hug with his mother, looking at her face to face. "I'll be back. I promise."

Phyllis gave a slight smile in return. "Okay." She said. Those words seemed to comfort her, and she and Kyle hugged tightly once again.

Slowly, Kyle stepped away, his right hand lingering on his mother's left arm, and slowly pulling back.

The sound of a loud car horn came from outside.

Kyle turned and headed over to the front door, then turned back to face his mother. "I'll see ya soon, okay?" He said, giving her a reassuring smile.

Phyllis gave a small wave with her right hand, and Kyle returned it with his.

Kyle un-locked the door, opened it, and stepped outside, closing the door almost immediately after. He couldn't dread on the temporary goodbye now. He had to focus on his primary objective.
