A/N: Sean's life hangs in the balance and Trubel's questioned regarding the events.

*Hank's POV*

As they were driving, Hank had Lorelei call Nick's phone and put it on speaker so that they could communicate despite being in different cars. They needed to discuss what they were going to tell the officers who would be attending the scene at Nick and Juliette's house. Hank needed his phone so that he was able to make some calls about the captain. Lorelei hadn't said much, apart from when she was comforting Olivia. Hank kept glancing in the mirror at her; she was no doubt in shock. It was hard to read her expression as she was still wearing her sunglasses. Captain Renard was her fiancé, her soulmate, and despite any issues they had when his cheating came to light their relationship seemed to be on the mend.

Hank had just finished up getting an update on the captain. "Captain is in surgery now. They don't know anything except they've been shot more than once." He advised everyone.

"Three times I think." Trubel said. "He was gonna shoot him again, except he saw me. That's when I ran."

"Had you ever seen him before?" Hank asked her, glancing back at Lorelei. She was staring out the window.

"No. And he didn't know I was a Grimm until he woged."

Nick's voice spoke up. "He was wesen?"

"A hundjager. He was kind of surprised. That's why I had time to get the machete. He thought I was just a girl."

"I wish I could have seen his face…before you cut it off." Juliett commented.

"Did the captain say what was in the bottle that he wanted me to take?" Nick asked.

"No. He just said you had to drink it or something really bad would happen." Trubel said. "And Adalind did it." There was silence on the other end of the line. "Hey, maybe whatever she did to you won't last."

"You don't know Adalind." Juliette said.

"She's a hexenbiest. A witch." Hank added.

"In more ways than one." Nick followed up with.

"Oh, yeah, I read about them." Trubel.

"That's how she transformed herself to look like me." Juliette told them.

Hank froze, not sure if he had heard her correctly. "She did what?"

"She made Nick think it was me." Juliette said.

"Why the hell would she…" Hank asked, completely confused.

"So, Nick would sleep with her." He could hear the bitterness in her voice.

"I swear to god, I'm gonna find her and I'm gonna…" Juliette said before cutting herself off as they approached Nick and Juliette's house, where Hank could make out the familiar signs of a roadblock.

Juliette parked and Hank pulled up behind her. "We should turn around." Trubel said from the other end of the phone.

"We have to deal with this." Nick told her.

"I killed that guy." Trubel said, sounding worried.

"In self-defence." Nick reminded her.

"They're gonna be all over Trubel." Hank commented.

"What am I supposed to say?" Trubel asked.

"You're just gonna tell the truth except the part about the hundjager." Nick replied.

"And Adalind." Hank said.

"And the bottle he brought for Nick." Juliette added.

"All right, look, we better figure this out pretty quick. And if we have to lie, we better all be telling the same one." Hank told them.

Once they had gotten their story straight, they were ready to face the music.

Hank turned the engine off and hung-up Lorelei's phone. He turned around and looked at her. "Lore, we're just going to handle this and then I'll take you guys to the hospital. Ok?"

Lorelei glanced at him. "Ok." Her voice was hollow. "I'm staying in the car."

Hank nodded, glancing back at her one more time before he got out to join the others.

The lead detectives on the case were Meacham and Pogue. They seemed to buy their story. The harder part was when the feds arrived. Probably because the shooter was Weston Steward, one of their own, gone AWOL. It seemed he had returned to enact revenge on Captain Renard. Nick was anxious when Special Agents Chavez and Rosten had Trubel walk them through what had happened. It was hard to tell if they bought the story. Trubel was taken down to the station to give a formal statement. Nick had followed them down, while Hank drove Lorelei and Olivia to the hospital. Lorelei still hadn't said much, only asking if they had bought the story.

There was still no word on the captain, just that he was still in surgery. Hank had gotten Lorelei and Olivia set up in the waiting room as Wu arrived. Hank was grateful, he wanted to try and track Adalind down. Before leaving, he had gone down to his car to grab the baby's stuff and upon returning, pulled Wu aside, asking him to keep a close eye on Lorelei, made sure she ate and told him some of the signs of postpartum preeclampsia. It was something Hank had read about while looking up preeclampsia. He didn't think Lorelei was going to get it, she seemed to be quite healthy, but the stress of her soulmates shooting may cause issues.

Hank wasn't gone long. He was able to find out that Adalind had flown back to Vienna. Perhaps what she done to Nick was part of some attempt to get her daughter back. Only problem was, the Royals didn't have Diana. Thankfully, the feds ruled that Trubel had acted in self-defence, so that case was essentially closed. They were however interested to find out why their agent had shot a police captain. Nick and Hank knew, but they didn't. On the way back to the hospital, Hank stopped at the hotel Lorelei and the captain had been staying at to grab a few things for Lorelei and the baby. Hank doubted Lorelei would want to leave the hospital, so he grabbed a couple of changes of clothes for both of them in addition to some other things.

He returned to the hospital and found them where he had left them. Lorelei was sprawled out across two chairs with Wu beside her, Olivia in his arms. Lorelei had taken the sunglasses off and he could see her eyes were red and puffy. His heart went out for the younger woman who had become like his baby sister.

"Hey, what do you know?" Hank asked, sitting on the other side of Wu after dropping the bag he bought for Lorelei on the floor.

Wu exhaled sharply. "Well, he's been in surgery over three hours." He answered. Hank took a closer look at him, noticing how exhausted he looked. He should probably send him home soon.

Hank sighed, leaning back. He glanced at Lorelei, who was staring listlessly at the wall nearby. "How are the girls doing?"

Wu glanced down at Olivia. "Well, she's fed, been changed, and is sleeping soundly." Wu told him before glancing at Lorelei. "I did get her to eat, but she's got a headache and, I assume, by the racing to the bathroom, threw it up. But she assures me the headache isn't that bad."

"I can hear you; you know." Lorelei said, looking at them. "It's a stress headache and I'm so stressed that I threw up."

They both apologised to her and sat in silence for a while before Wu glanced at Hank. "Remember when you told me that there were things that you'd seen that you couldn't explain?"

Hank shifted, glancing at Lorelei who met his gaze as she sat up. "Yeah."

Wu sighed. "I don't know – Maybe I'm just tired, but, uh…that book of Nick's was not a normal book. There were pictures in it, and the drawings looked a little like what I thought I saw that time." He paused. "And from what he wrote, I got the impression that these monsters were somehow inside people…like they are possessed." Hank met Lorelei's eyes over Wu head, as Wu scoffed. "Am I making any sense at all?"

"Hey." Hank said quietly, leaning closer to Wu. "Monsters do live inside people. We deal with it every day."

Wu shook his head. "No, this is different. I mean, whoever wrote this stuff really saw what they drew." He looked at Hank. "When you told me that you'd seen things, what did you mean?"

Hank glanced at Lorelei who shrugged. "I was just saying that people get angry, out of control, their faces start to change. It's like they're not even human…" Over Wu's head, Hank saw Lorelei roll her eyes. Well, it's not like you're helping. He thought to himself. "You know, something like that."

Wu sighed, looking down at Olivia. He looked back up, shaking his head. "I don't know."

"Nobody sees the world the same way. And you can't explain everything."

Wu glanced at Lorelei, who looked away, pretending she wasn't listening. "I'm still having nightmares." He admitted quietly.

Damn it. This had gone on too long. Hank looked up, hoping to catch Lorelei's eye and found her looking at him. He raised an eyebrow and she nodded, as though saying, yeah, we need to tell him. She'd probably be better at telling him about this stuff, but he didn't want to place that burden on her at the moment. "Wu, I got to tell you something." He said, leaning closer to the uniformed office. "Last year, I thought I was losing my mind too. Until…"

Wu looked up at a voice addressing Lorelei. Hank looked up and saw a doctor approaching them. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw Lorelei standing up. He and Wu followed suit. "Doctor." Wu said before gesturing to Hank. "Uh, this is Detective Griffin."

"Is Sean ok?" Lorelei asked, her voice shaky as she came to stand between Wu and himself.

The doctor looked at Lorelei sympathetically. "I wish I had better news." He crossed his arms. "Captain Renard is out of surgery, but, well, he's lost a great deal of blood, and there's a lot of damage." Hank wrapped his arm around Lorelei's shoulder, keeping her steady. "His kidney's may shut down." The doctor looked sadly at Lorelei. "It may be a good idea to contact any other family and have them get here as soon as possible."

"Oh god." Lorelei cried, leaning against Hank. "Can I see him?"

The doctor nodded. "I'll have one of the nurses bring you back soon."

"Thank you, Doctor." Hank said, his grip on Lorelei tightening. The doctor walked off and Hank looked at Lorelei. "Does the captain have any other family he'd want contacted?"

Lorelei nodded, sniffling. "His mother. I have her number in my phone. It's in the diaper bag." Lorelei turned to get it, stumbling slightly as she did.

"Woah, you ok?"

Lorelei nodded again. "Yeah." She said, straightening up.

Hank steered her over to a seat. "Sit down. I'll call her."

Lorelei didn't argue with him, sitting back down as he went to fish her phone out of her bag and had her unlock it. "Her name is Elizabeth Lascelles."

Hank nodded, before stepping away to make the call, his heart heavy.

*Wu's POV*

God, things just keep getting worse and worser. Wu had returned to take a seat beside Lorelei, gently rocking Olivia. Although that was more for himself than her as she was sleeping soundly, unaware of what was going on around her. Unaware of the knowledge that she may be about to face a lifetime without her father. And Lorelei, she looked heartbroken, unlike the bright spark he had come to know. He internally scoffed, and he had been worried about his own problems. They were nothing compared to the prospect of a life without your soulmate.

Hank returned as a nurse arrived to take Lorelei back to see the captain. She had glanced at Wu. "Do you mind holding onto her for a little longer?" She asked him. He nodded and after pressing a kiss to Olivia's head, she followed the nurse.

Wu looked at Hank, the concern on his face as he watched Lorelei walk off was obvious. "Did you reach the captains mother?"

Hank nodded slowly. "Uh, yeah. Turns out she was already on her way. Guess she was coming to meet the baby. She'll be here sometime tomorrow."

Wu had gently placed Olivia into her stroller and sat down beside it. Hank joined him. They sat in silence for about 10 minutes. Wu stood up when Lorelei returned, as did Hank. She was looking distressed, rubbing her forehead with one hand, her chest with the other, tears streaming down her face. As she got closer, Wu thought it looked as if she was having trouble breathing. "Lorelei?" He said slowly, placing his hand on her arm.

"I can't breathe. I feel like I can't breathe." She said breathlessly, sounding a little panicked. And then before anymore could be said, her eyes rolled into the back of her head, and she crumpled.

"Woah, Lorelei." Wu said, catching her as she fell. He gently lowered her to the ground.

"Hey, we need help over here?" Hank shouted, coming to kneel beside Lorelei.

A couple of nurses came running over, asking what happened. Hank explained it to them, also including the fact Lorelei had not long given birth and had a history of preeclampsia. She was rushed off. All Wu and Hank could do was watch helplessly, staying with Olivia. The two discussed what to do, in the event Lorelei had to be admitted. Hank was of the opinion that Lorelei wouldn't cope well if she woke up and found her daughter gone. A nurse approached them a short while later, letting them know Lorelei's blood pressure was quite high and considering her history, they were admitting her to run more tests to determine if she had something called postpartum preeclampsia or something else. Hank insisted they keep her on this floor, telling them about the captain. While they were waiting for Lorelei to get settled, Hank called someone, telling Wu they were a friend of Lorelei who could stay with her and Olivia. Hank then sent Wu home, promising to keep him updated.

As Wu left, he realised that the day had in fact, gotten even worser.

A/N: I did intend on writing a scene that involved Lorelei seeing Sean, but I struggled to write it. It was too hard. So, forgive me for leaving it out. The next chapter is an update on Lorelei. And just a warning, no one's dying but Lorelei's own health problems do escalate.
