Maya's phone buzzed in her pocket as she was going over drill notes with her new team. She checked the caller ID, seeing Carina's name flash across the screen, and her stomach did a little flip. She stepped away from the group, answering quickly.

"Hey, babe! Everything okay?"

"Hey, yes, I just wanted to let you know that I'm on my way to pick up Alex from preschool. His teacher called, and it looks like he's come down with that stomach bug going around."

"Oh, poor buddy," Maya said, frowning. "How is he doing? Do you want me to do anything? I can call in some favors, maybe get the rest of the shift off?"

"No, no, you stay at the station," Carina replied, her voice reassuring. "I took the rest of the day off, so I'll be home with him. I'll keep you updated, I promise."

Maya sighed, relieved and a little disappointed. She wanted to be home with them, but she knew Alex would be in good hands with Carina. "Okay, let me know if there's anything I can do, though. Bring home crackers or ginger ale or whatever you need."

Carina chuckled softly, a sound that brought a little warmth to Maya's heart even through the concern. "I'll keep that in mind. You're very sweet. I just wanted to let you know so you didn't worry."

Maya smiled, already thinking about how she could wrap up her shift as soon as possible. "Thanks, babe. Give him a kiss from me, and tell him I'll be home as soon as I can."

"Will do. Be safe, Captain Bishop," Carina said, her voice a soft tease that Maya loved.

"Always," Maya replied, unable to keep a grin from her face. "I'll check in later, okay?"

After they hung up, Maya took a deep breath, steeling herself to get through the rest of her shift.

When Carina walked into the preschool's nurse's office, her heart broke seeing Alex curled up on the little cot, his face red and tear-streaked. His eyes lifted when she entered, and his lower lip trembled as he held out his arms to her.

"Mamma," he whimpered, sniffling as more tears filled his eyes.

"Oh, tesoro," Carina cooed, kneeling beside him and gently brushing his damp hair back. "I'm here, sweetie. Let's get you home, okay?" She gave him a reassuring smile and helped him sit up, offering him a tissue to wipe his nose. He clung to her hand as they made their way out to the car, his small fingers clutching hers tightly.

After buckling him into his car seat, Carina stroked his cheek. "We'll be home soon, and then we'll get you comfy, sì? Mamma will make sure you feel better."

Alex nodded, his face still pale and exhausted. But as Carina started to drive, she heard a small gagging sound from the back seat. She glanced in the rearview mirror just in time to see Alex's face scrunch up, and before she could pull over, he was sick again, the little plastic bag she'd given him not quite in the right spot.

"Oh, baby," Carina murmured softly, pulling over as soon as she could to help him. She unbuckled her seatbelt, grabbed some tissues, and reached back to clean him up as best as she could.

"It's okay, Alex," she soothed, wiping his face gently. "You're doing so well, and we're almost home. Just keep breathing, okay? Mamma's right here."

Alex nodded, his big eyes watery but grateful as he leaned back in his seat, exhausted. Carina kissed his forehead and whispered, "Almost there, my love. You're so brave."

The rest of the drive, Carina kept talking to him in soothing tones, reassuring him that soon they'd be home, in cozy pajamas, with a movie, and maybe some crackers once his stomach felt better.

When they finally pulled into the driveway, Carina parked and quickly came around to lift Alex out of his car seat. She held him close as he rested his head on her shoulder, feeling his small hands grip her sweater tightly. Once inside, she helped him change and get settled on the couch, tucking him in with his favorite blanket.

Carina kissed his forehead again, brushing his hair back and offering a soft smile. "Rest now, tesoro. Mamma is right here. You don't have to worry about anything."

Alex snuggled into the blankets with a tired but relieved little smile. Carina stroked his back, staying close until he finally closed his eyes and drifted off to sleep, his hand clutching hers tightly.

Carina blinked herself awake, feeling the weight of a small arm draped over her waist. She looked down to see Alex snuggled close, his little face nestled against her shoulder, his soft breathing steady and peaceful. She smiled, brushing a gentle hand over his hair, feeling a warmth in her heart despite the long day they'd had.

But before she could fully enjoy the quiet moment, Alex stirred, his brow furrowing as he groaned. Carina sat up slightly, her instincts kicking in, but it was too late. Alex's face scrunched, and before she could react, he threw up, right onto her shirt.

"Oh, tesoro," Carina murmured, her tone still calm despite the mess. She held back her own discomfort and wrapped her arms around him, rubbing soothing circles on his back as he began to cry. "Shh, shh. It's okay, Alex. It's okay. Mamma's here."

Alex sniffled, his little fingers gripping her shirt as he buried his face in her shoulder. "I'm sorry, Mamma," he whimpered, his voice barely audible.

"Oh, no, sweetheart," Carina said softly, kissing his forehead. "You don't have to be sorry, not one little bit. You're just sick, and that's all right. Mamma can clean up."

She carefully shifted him off her lap, guiding him gently to lie down. "Let's get you comfy again, okay?" Carina gave him a reassuring smile, ignoring the mess as she handed him a fresh cloth and grabbed some tissues to wipe his mouth.

Carina dialed Maya's number as she shuffled around the bedroom, searching through drawers for a clean set of clothes. She quickly slipped into one of Maya's old Seattle Fire Department T-shirts and a pair of Maya's sweatpants, the familiar scent and warmth making her feel just a bit more grounded.

The call connected, and Maya picked up right away, her voice filled with concern. "Hey, babe. How's Alex?"

"He's… well, he's hanging in there," Carina said, tucking the phone between her ear and shoulder as she folded a fresh blanket. "But we're running low on supplies. Could you pick up some Pedialyte and maybe some soup on your way home?"

"Of course," Maya replied without hesitation. "Anything else? Ginger ale? Crackers?"

"That would be perfect," Carina agreed with a soft smile, touched by how attentive Maya always was. "Thank you. He's had a rough day, so maybe it'll help him keep something down."

"I'll get everything he needs," Maya said, her voice warm. "And you, too. I'll be home as soon as I can."

After hanging up, Carina returned to the living room, where Alex lay on the couch, looking worn out but perked up a bit as she brought over the fresh blanket. She knelt beside him, tucking him in carefully and brushing his hair back. "Look what I found," she said with a smile, holding up the remote. "How about some Ninja Turtles?"

Alex's face lit up, the faintest smile appearing as he nodded. Carina turned on the cartoon, and the familiar theme song filled the room, bringing a little life back into his tired eyes. She sat beside him, offering him a small cup of water, encouraging him to take small sips as the cartoon played.

"Just a little water for now, okay, tesoro?" she said, coaxing him with a soft tone. "It'll help your tummy feel better."

Alex took a sip, looking at her with those big, trusting eyes as she wrapped her arm around him. The comfort of his favorite cartoon and the presence of his Mamma seemed to calm him, his little head leaning against her as they watched the show together.

Carina held him close, her fingers gently running through his hair, whispering soft reassurances and silently thanking Maya for being such a strong anchor, even from afar. They stayed that way, watching the Ninja Turtles take on the world, just waiting for Maya to come through the door with all the essentials they needed to ride out this storm as a family.

Maya opened the door just in time to see Alex start to stir on the couch, his face turning a shade paler as he groaned. She saw Carina's quick reaction, reaching for the bowl she'd placed close by just in case, gently holding it up as Alex leaned over and got sick again. Maya's heart ached seeing him like this, so small and vulnerable, but she admired Carina's calm, reassuring presence.

"Oh, buddy," Maya murmured, stepping inside and setting down the grocery bags quietly. She moved to the couch, watching as Carina rubbed Alex's back in soothing circles, whispering gentle words to him in Italian as he finished.

Carina looked up, relieved but tired, and gave Maya a soft smile. "Hey, Captain. Right on time."

Maya knelt beside them, placing a comforting hand on Alex's shoulder. "I brought all your favorites, little guy—soup, crackers, Pedialyte. We're gonna make sure you're feeling better soon."

Alex managed a weak smile, his eyes droopy as he leaned back against the couch, looking at Maya with a mix of exhaustion and relief. "Mommy…" he whispered, reaching for her hand.

Maya gently took his hand, giving it a little squeeze. "I'm here, buddy," she said, her voice warm and reassuring. She glanced up at Carina, sharing a silent moment of gratitude and understanding. Carina was clearly exhausted, but she hadn't left Alex's side for a second.

Alex looked up at Maya with sleepy, pleading eyes, reaching out his little arms. "Mommy, can you hold me?" he whispered, his voice soft and tired.

Without a second thought, Maya scooped him up, gently cradling him against her chest as she settled into the recliner nearby. She positioned him comfortably, his head nestled in the crook of her shoulder, and began to rock slowly, swaying back and forth in a soothing rhythm. He sighed contentedly, nuzzling closer as his eyes fluttered, trying to stay awake to watch the cartoon playing softly on the TV.

Carina watched them, a fond smile on her face, though her eyes were weary. Maya noticed, giving her a gentle look over Alex's head. "Hey," she said softly, careful not to disturb the calm. "Why don't you go take a bath, relax a little? I've got this," she offered, nodding towards the bathroom. "You deserve a break."

Carina hesitated for a moment, her maternal instincts tugging at her to stay nearby, but then she saw how peacefully Alex was resting in Maya's arms. She knew he was safe and comforted with his Mommy. She sighed, a mix of exhaustion and gratitude filling her heart.

"Are you sure?" Carina whispered, her voice soft as she looked at the two of them.

Maya gave her an encouraging nod, her fingers gently running through Alex's hair. "Absolutely. Take your time. I've got him right here," she assured, smiling up at her. "We'll be here when you're done."

Carina finally relented, leaning down to give both of them a soft kiss—one on Alex's forehead and one on Maya's cheek. "Thank you," she whispered, her voice filled with affection.

Maya just nodded, watching Carina head down the hallway before turning her attention back to Alex, who was nestled in her arms, his breathing steady and calm. She continued to rock, humming softly as they watched the cartoon together, feeling her heart swell with love for the little boy snuggled against her and for the woman she loved more than anything.

Carina emerged from the bathroom looking fresh and relaxed, her damp hair tumbling over her shoulders, and a cozy pair of Maya's sweatpants and an oversized hoodie snug on her. Maya grinned when she saw her, unable to resist a playful tease.

"Wow, is there any part of my wardrobe you haven't claimed yet?" Maya joked, her eyes twinkling. "But hey, if it makes you happy, my closet's all yours, Doc."

Carina rolled her eyes but couldn't help the smile that spread across her face as she made her way over. "You know I like to be wrapped in you, even if it's just your clothes," she quipped, a soft blush coloring her cheeks.

Maya laughed softly, feeling her heart swell with affection as Carina settled down, gently stirring a little Pedialyte and pouring it into a small cup. She kneeled next to the recliner, her hand warm and gentle as she coaxed Alex to take a few small sips. Alex sipped obediently, his big eyes looking between his mommies, clearly comforted by their presence.

After finishing a little, he leaned against Maya, letting out a tiny sigh. Then, looking up at Carina, he reached out his hand and whispered, "Mamma, can you come snuggle too?"

Carina's heart melted instantly, and she climbed onto the recliner beside them, tucking herself in next to Maya and carefully wrapping her arm around Alex. With the three of them settled in the chair, Maya adjusted to hold them both close, leaning back slightly so they were all nestled together.

"Now this," Maya murmured, pressing a kiss to the top of Carina's head, "is my favorite way to end a shift. Both of you right here." She tightened her hold around them, a feeling of peace settling over her as she stroked Alex's hair gently, feeling his breathing slow as he relaxed.

Carina snuggled closer, resting her head on Maya's shoulder and letting out a contented sigh. "Mine too," she whispered, her voice soft with warmth. They stayed that way, wrapped up in each other, the three of them finding comfort in each other's embrace, no words needed

After a while, Alex stirred, blinking up at Maya and Carina with a sleepy but hopeful expression. "Mommy, Mamma… I'm hungry," he said, his voice still a bit groggy but a little stronger now.

Maya exchanged a smile with Carina, feeling relieved that his appetite was slowly coming back. "Well, that's a good sign, buddy!" she said, smoothing his hair back. "How about we get you all cleaned up in the bath first?"

Alex's eyes lit up as he looked between them. "Can I… can I use your big tub?" he asked, a small but eager smile spreading across his face.

Carina and Maya chuckled, sharing an amused glance. Carina squeezed Alex's hand gently, her eyes warm. "Of course, tesoro. Anything to make you feel better."

As Maya gently lifted Alex, she whispered to Carina, "I'll get him all set up, and then it's soup time." She winked, giving Carina a quick kiss on the cheek before carrying Alex towards the bathroom.

"Perfect," Carina replied, laughing softly as she headed to the kitchen to start preparing some chicken soup, hoping it would be easy on Alex's stomach.

In the bathroom, Maya turned on the water, making sure it was warm but not too hot. Alex looked around with wide eyes, clearly thrilled at the idea of having a bath in "Mommy and Mamma's big tub." He held onto her hand as she helped him climb in, and soon he was sitting comfortably, splashing a little and giggling as the water swirled around him.

Maya stayed by his side, rolling up her sleeves and using a washcloth to gently clean him up. "There you go, buddy," she said, her voice soft. "How's the big tub treating you?"

Alex grinned, leaning back a bit. "It's like a swimming pool!" he giggled, clearly enjoying himself.

Maya laughed, reaching over to give his nose a playful tap. "Well, I guess we can make this our official sick day tradition," she teased. "Big tub, cartoons, and soup with your favorite people."

After a few more minutes, when Alex was all clean and feeling much better, Maya wrapped him up in a warm towel and carried him back to the living room, where the comforting smell of Carina's soup wafted from the kitchen.

As they settled Alex back onto the couch, he looked up at Carina with wide eyes, a bit more energy in his voice. "Mamma, can I wear my Superman pajamas?"

Carina chuckled softly, nodding. "Of course, tesoro. Let's get you feeling super."

She went to his room to grab the bright blue Superman pajamas with the red cape, bringing them over to him. With Maya's help, they got him dressed, Alex wiggling happily as he held out his arms to show off the cape.

"Look at that, Super Alex!" Maya said, grinning as she gently tugged the cape behind him. "I bet you're feeling stronger already."

Carina returned to the kitchen to grab three bowls of soup, setting them carefully on the coffee table along with a spoon for each of them. Then she picked up the small cup of medicine she'd poured, walking over to Alex and offering it with a smile.

"Here, tesoro, just a little medicine, and then you can have all the soup you want."

Alex wrinkled his nose, pulling back slightly. "But, Mamma, it tastes yucky," he protested, shaking his head.

Carina knelt down beside him, her voice gentle and soothing. "I know, amore, but it's going to help you feel better. Just one quick sip, and then you can eat your soup, okay?"

Maya leaned in, grinning playfully as she held up a spoon like a pretend airplane. "I bet Superman could take it, right? One big sip, and then you'll be stronger than ever."

Alex looked between his mommies, still a little reluctant, but Maya's playful encouragement made him giggle. With a brave nod, he scrunched his face and took the medicine, swallowing it quickly and sticking out his tongue.

"Yuck!" he exclaimed, but then he laughed, relieved it was over.

Carina kissed his forehead, smiling proudly. "There you go, my little superhero. Now, soup time!"

They all sat together, dipping their spoons into the warm, comforting soup. Alex relaxed between them, leaning his head on Maya's shoulder as he took small bites, slowly getting his strength back with each bite.

After finishing his soup, Alex let out a tiny yawn, looking up at Carina with sleepy eyes. "Mamma, can we watch the dragon movie?" he asked, his voice barely above a whisper.

Carina smiled, understanding immediately. "Of course, tesoro. Let's get you cozy."

She grabbed the remote, navigating to How to Train Your Dragon, while Alex snuggled into her side, his little head resting against her shoulder, his Superman cape draped over him like a makeshift blanket. Maya, who'd been watching the sweet scene with a warm smile, took the opportunity to slip away for a quick shower and a change into her own cozy clothes.

After a few minutes, Maya rejoined them, wearing her own pair of sweats and one of Carina's oversized hoodies. She slipped onto the couch, settling beside Carina and reaching over to gently squeeze Alex's hand. He looked up at her with a sleepy grin, clearly thrilled to have both his mommies close.

"Look who's back!" Carina teased, giving Maya a playful nudge as she adjusted the blanket over all of them.

"Couldn't miss movie night with my little superhero," Maya replied with a grin, wrapping her arm around Carina's shoulders and pulling them both close.

As the opening scenes of How to Train Your Dragon began to play, Alex's eyes grew wide with excitement, his little hand clutching onto Carina's. He snuggled deeper between them, sighing contentedly as the dragons soared across the screen.

The three of them stayed cozied up on the couch, the room filled with the warmth of their little family, watching the movie together.

As the movie played on, Maya glanced down to find Alex fast asleep, his small hand still clutching Carina's. She looked over at Carina, a gentle smile on her face as she lowered her voice to a whisper.

"So, what's the plan for tonight?" Maya asked softly, brushing a strand of hair out of Alex's face.

Carina looked down at Alex, her expression soft and full of love. "I think we keep him close," she said. "I'd feel better if he was in bed with us, just in case he needs us in the night."

Maya nodded, reaching over to give Carina's hand a little squeeze. "Good call," she agreed. "Let's get him comfortable, then."

Before they moved him, Carina grabbed the nearby bowl, just in case Alex's stomach started acting up again. Then, with gentle hands, Maya lifted Alex into her arms, careful not to jostle him too much. He stirred only slightly, nestling his head against her shoulder as she carried him to their room, Carina following close behind with the bowl.

Once they reached the bed, Maya carefully laid Alex down in the middle, adjusting the pillows around him. Carina draped a soft blanket over him, smoothing it out as she pressed a gentle kiss to his forehead.

They both climbed into bed on either side of him, creating a cozy, protective nest around him. Carina placed the bowl on her side within reach, giving Maya a reassuring nod. As they settled in, Alex instinctively snuggled closer to Carina, one hand reaching out to find Maya's.

Maya smiled, entwining her fingers with his tiny hand as she glanced over at Carina. "Looks like we're in for a family sleepover."

Carina chuckled softly, reaching out to rest her hand over theirs. "Wouldn't have it any other way," she murmured, leaning over to give Maya a soft kiss.

Maya was just starting to stir in the early morning light when she felt Alex shift beside her. She blinked her eyes open, only to be caught completely off guard as Alex suddenly got sick, throwing up all over her shirt and the blankets. She gasped softly but quickly pushed aside her own discomfort, looking down to see Alex's tear-filled eyes as he realized what had happened.

"Hey, hey, buddy, it's okay," Maya said softly, keeping her voice calm and soothing as she gently rubbed his back. "You're okay. Mommy's here. Don't worry about it."

Alex's face crumpled, and he began to cry, his small hands reaching out to her. "I'm sorry, Mommy," he whimpered, his voice choked with guilt and embarrassment.

"Oh, sweetheart, you have nothing to be sorry about," she reassured him, pulling him into a gentle hug despite the mess.

Just as Maya was calming Alex down, she heard Carina stirring beside her. Carina sat up, rubbing her eyes and reaching out to help when suddenly her face went pale. She put a hand over her mouth, and before Maya could say anything, Carina was out of bed, rushing toward the bathroom.

Maya heard the unmistakable sounds of Carina getting sick, and her heart sank, realizing that Carina must have caught the bug, too.

"Oh boy, it's gonna be one of those days," Maya murmured to herself, giving Alex another comforting squeeze. "Looks like Mamma's not feeling great either. But hey, I've got you both, okay?"

Alex sniffled, still clinging to her, but he seemed to relax a little in her arms, finding comfort in her steady presence.

Once Alex was a bit calmer, Maya carefully shifted him to sit up, grabbing a tissue to wipe his face gently. "Let's get you cleaned up, superhero. How about a fresh set of pajamas?"

She moved toward the bathroom, knocking gently on the door. "Carina, you okay in there?"

A faint, tired voice came back, "I think I've got the same stomach bug," Carina replied, her voice filled with exhaustion.

Maya took a deep breath, mentally preparing herself to care for both her little superhero and her fiancée. "Okay, I'm going to get Alex cleaned up. Do you need anything, babe?"

"Just… water," Carina managed, sounding grateful and weary.

Maya quickly ran to the kitchen, grabbing a glass of water and some medicine for both Carina and Alex.

After gathering the supplies, she returned to the bathroom, gently guiding Alex inside while balancing the glass and medicine in her hands.

Carina was still kneeling beside the toilet, looking pale and exhausted. Alex's eyes went wide with worry as he took in the scene, his little hand clutching Maya's shirt. "Mamma, are you okay?" he asked, his voice shaky.

Carina managed a small, reassuring smile, reaching out to squeeze Alex's hand. "I'm okay, tesoro," she whispered, though her voice was weak. "Just feeling a bit like you did yesterday."

Maya knelt down beside Alex, brushing his hair back as she looked at him with a gentle smile. "It's just the same bug you had, buddy," she explained, keeping her tone calm and comforting. "But don't worry—I'm going to take care of both of you."

She set the water down beside Carina, offering her a steadying hand as she carefully took a sip. Then, she turned to Alex, giving him a reassuring smile. "How about we get you a quick wash, Superman?" she said, helping him step up to the sink. She gently wiped his face and hands, making sure he felt fresh and clean before quickly washing herself off as well.

Alex's eyes kept darting back to Carina, still filled with concern. "Mommy, is Mamma going to be okay?" he whispered, his voice small.

Maya pulled him close, pressing a gentle kiss to his forehead. "Mamma is very strong, just like you," she assured him, glancing over at Carina with a soft smile. "And I'm here to take care of you both, so everything is going to be just fine."

Alex nodded, seeming to relax a little in Maya's arms. She helped him back into the fresh pajamas, then rubbed his back gently, guiding him toward the bedroom with a promise that she'd check on Carina and bring her back to bed soon. Maya quickly stripped the bed sheets and changed them.

Once Alex was settled, Maya returned to the bathroom, kneeling beside Carina and brushing a strand of hair behind her ear. "How are you feeling?" she asked softly, handing her the medicine and another sip of water.

Carina gave a tired smile, reaching out to squeeze Maya's hand. "Better, now that you're here," she murmured, her eyes filled with gratitude despite her exhaustion.

"Let's get you back to bed," Maya said, helping her up gently. She wrapped an arm around Carina, supporting her as they made their way back to the bedroom. Maya felt the warmth of love and purpose settle over her as she tucked Carina into bed beside Alex, determined to get her little family through this rough day

As Maya felt Alex gently shake her shoulder, she blinked awake, finding his bright eyes peering up at her.

"Mommy, can we have French toast for breakfast?" he asked eagerly, his voice a little stronger than the day before.

Maya smiled, glancing over to see Carina still asleep beside them, her face finally relaxed after a long night. Maya turned back to Alex, brushing his hair back gently. "How are you feeling, buddy?" she whispered.

Alex grinned, giving her an enthusiastic nod. "I feel great!"

Maya chuckled softly, relieved to see him bouncing back. "Well, that's good news! But just to be sure, how about we start with some plain toast, okay? And if that sits well, maybe we'll work our way up to French toast."

Alex considered it for a moment, then nodded in agreement, seeming content with the compromise. Maya gave him a wink and started to slip quietly out of bed, carefully guiding him with her so they wouldn't disturb Carina. But just as they were tiptoeing toward the door, they heard a soft groan behind them.

Maya turned just in time to see Carina stirring, her face quickly contorting as she bolted out of bed,her hand over her mouth, and rushed to the bathroom again. Maya sighed, sympathy flooding her as she knelt down to Alex's level.

"Looks like Mamma still needs some time to get better," Maya whispered gently, giving him a reassuring smile. "How about you and I go to the kitchen and let her rest?"

Alex nodded, casting a worried glance toward the bathroom, but Maya gave his shoulder a comforting squeeze. "Mamma will be okay," she assured him softly. "She just needs a little more time, that's all."

With a quiet determination, Maya led Alex to the kitchen, setting him up at the table with some water. She popped a couple of slices of plain toast in the toaster, keeping an eye on him while glancing down the hallway, listening for any sounds from Carina.

As the toast popped, Maya spread a little butter on it and brought it over to Alex. "Here you go, buddy. Just take it slow, and let me know how you're feeling."

Alex took a bite, nodding happily, and Maya couldn't help but smile, relieved to see him regaining his strength.

Just as Maya was about to head down the hallway to check on Carina, she saw her slowly making her way toward the kitchen, looking pale and a bit unsteady. Maya immediately moved toward her, reaching out to offer support.

"Hey, babe. How are you feeling?" Maya asked softly, concern in her eyes.

Carina gave a tired smile, though her eyes showed gratitude. "Like I've been hit by a train," she murmured, leaning slightly into Maya. "But I think I could manage a glass of Pedialyte."

Before Maya could respond, Alex jumped up from his seat at the table, his face lighting up with determination. "I can help!" he said, hurrying over to the counter where the Pedialyte sat.

Maya grinned, glancing at Carina with a twinkle in her eye. "Looks like we've got a little helper on our hands," she said, watching as Alex carefully unscrewed the cap and started to pour, his concentration intense.

Maya moved over to assist him, steadying the bottle as Alex carefully poured a small glass, his little hands determined to get it just right. Once he'd filled the glass, he turned to Carina with a proud smile, holding it up for her. "Here you go, Mamma. This will help you feel better!"

Carina's face softened as she took the glass from him, bending down to kiss his forehead. "Grazie, tesoro," she whispered, her voice full of warmth. She took a sip, giving him a small nod of appreciation. "With you and Mommy taking care of me, I think I'll feel better in no time."

Alex beamed, clearly pleased with himself, and he hurried back to his seat to finish his toast. Maya wrapped an arm around Carina's shoulders, guiding her to sit down. "Take it easy," Maya murmured, rubbing her back gently. "Alex and I have everything under control."

Carina looked at Maya, her tired smile full of gratitude. "I don't know what I'd do without you two."

"Well, lucky for you, you don't have to find out," Maya replied, giving her a soft kiss on the forehead. As Carina sipped her drink, Maya and Alex exchanged a quick high-five.

Carina eased herself onto the sofa, letting out a small sigh as she finally relaxed against the cushions. "I called in for today," she told Maya, her voice tired but relieved. "I think one more day to rest is exactly what I need."

Maya nodded, a soft smile on her face. "Good call. Let's make sure you're completely better before you have to be back on your feet." She headed to the linen closet, grabbing the coziest blanket she could find, then gently draped it over Carina, tucking her in with care.

As Maya adjusted the blanket, Alex scampered over, clutching his favorite stuffed animal—a slightly worn but very loved plush dinosaur. He held it out to Carina with a shy but hopeful smile. "Mamma, you can cuddle Dino if you want," he offered, his voice filled with sincerity.

Carina's eyes softened, touched by her little boy's thoughtfulness. She reached out and took the stuffed animal from him, giving it a gentle squeeze before pulling Alex close for a quick hug. "Thank you, tesoro," she whispered, pressing a kiss to his forehead.

Alex beamed, climbing up onto the sofa beside her, settling in close. Maya joined them, sitting on Carina's other side and resting her arm around both of them, feeling the warmth of their small family as they all cuddled up together.
