Chapter 44: Finally
Harry heaved a relieved sigh as he closed his trunk - at last, he could leave. He hadn't seen Jasper for a month and his whole being was screaming at him to find his vampire as soon as possible, that he wasn't well, that he needed him.
He wasn't well either, but his activities had kept him sane and melancholy.
After being questioned by the aurors about his lover's disappearance, Harry had given interviews to explain Jasper's condition in Azkaban and his concern about his mental health. The wizarding population was outraged at the fate that had befallen the Survivor and his soulmate, and a fine mess reigned in Britain.
Harry, who knew he was being followed, took care of the ruins of the square. He had decided to destroy it completely and build an orphanage on its ashes. He proposed to his friends that they manage the project for him, and Blaise and Hermione agreed. He worked on it with them and the goblins under the watchful eye of the aurors, who never let him go, but as soon as he found himself protected from prying ears by the soundproof walls of Gringotts, he prepared to leave. The goblins had reserved one of his chests for the orphanage at his request, and had offered Harry a special contract giving him access to his gold wherever he was in the world, which he had of course accepted.
After two weeks of walking the aurors and putting his affairs in order, Harry had disappeared. He had slipped away into the Muggle world, not using magic to avoid 'd taken a train to Paris, then a plane to Washington, where he'd booked a hotel room. Being on the same continent as his love without being able to join him had made his heart ache, but he knew he shouldn't rush.
He had made an appointment with a lawyer specializing in international law and woman had helped him put together two files, one to have him recognized as an American wizard, the other so that English justice could not prosecute Jasper, an American citizen and his soul-sister on soil outside Great Britain.
The first case had been settled in a matter of days, while the second had taken almost two weeks to finalize, but it was finally time. Everything was in order, Harry could go and join his soulmate, never to leave him again.
He scaled down his trunk and concentrated on his heart and the bond he shared with Jasper. He closed his eyes, visualized his companion and concentrated on his desire to be by his side. For the first time in his life, he apparated away without knowing where he's going, but when he opens his eyes, he knows he's in the right place.
He was in a large, bright living room, surrounded by six vampires whose amber eyes expressed their relief at seeing him.
Jasper was roused from his melancholy contemplation of the clouds by a cracking sound on the first floor, immediately followed by a warm sensation in his heart and the smell of Harry coming through much stronger than a few seconds before. He was in the living room in less than half a second, an arm's length away from Harry.
He stopped dead in his tracks, transfixed by the vision of his soul-sister, suitcase in hand, smiling at him and his heart beating too didn't matter to him that he looked less fit than before his time in Azkaban; all that mattered was that they were together again.
A few seconds passed, during which they watched each other without moving, as if they were afraid of dispelling a mirage. They didn't know what broke the tension: the departure of the other Cullens, a clap of thunder or a blink of Harry's eyelashes?
No matter, they crossed the distance between them and pressed their lips together. It was as if they were breathing after too long an apnoea, their bodies starved for the other, for his taste, his smell, his voice, his moans.
It didn't matter that they were in a living room with huge picture windows, they undressed, ripping off each other's clothes. They couldn't bear to have the slightest barrier, the slightest space between them.
They didn't care about the sounds that filled the house, whether it was the piano notes provoked by Harry leaning on the instrument or the screams that escaped him induced by his lover's hard member slapping against his prostate.
It didn't matter if they soiled the furniture or the floor, they came without holding back on the piano, then on the sofa and finally on the window, each time with Jasper's fangs deep in the neck of his chalice.
They lay naked on the sofa for long minutes, enjoying each other's presence, before Jasper asked his lover to tell him the whole truth about the month's separation.
Harry told him everything, omitting nothing, not the guilt he'd felt at the verdict, nor the relief he felt now that he was sure the English aurors were no longer a threat. All the questions the vampire had were answered, all his doubts and misunderstandings assuaged, and only the most important question remained.
"Will you stay with me now?"
That month without Harry had been so painful, he couldn't envisage them being separated again.
"For eternity, my love," the young man replied.
And those words, which Jasper had dreamed of hearing since his first meeting with his soulmate, made him feel alive again, that his heart was beating again thanks to the wonderful man he held in his arms.
He ravished his mouth again, delicately this time, caressed his body, kissed every inch of his face until he found his ear.
"Make me yours," he whispered.
Harry reacted immediately, exploring the marble body with kisses until he found the best delicacy, which he sucked with application.
Jasper moaned and arched his back in pleasure, letting his hands roam through the ebony hair without fear of hurting his lover. He tensed his fingers on the strands of hair for a few moments as Harry began to prepare him to receive it, but discomfort was soon replaced by waves of pleasure. The double stimulation soon brought him to seventh heaven and he began begging his lover to take him without further delay. Harry stood at the end of the couch and entered the cold but sweet den with a slow thrust. He made love to his vampire slowly and devotedly until they reached ecstasy together.
The two men spent two days making love, pausing only when Harry needed to sleep or eat. They were unable to keep their hands to themselves or stay away from each other. Then the fever subsided. They realized the mess they'd made of the living room, and that the rest of the family might soon return. With a spell, Harry erased all traces of their activities and finally discovered the room he would be sharing with Jasper.
Harry walked in circles in the living room, under the amused gaze of his companion and in-laws. He was impatient and everyone could see it. In the five years since the wizard had reunited with the Cullen clan in the United States, he hadn't seen those he considered his best friends, not wanting to be separated from Jasper and the latter refusing to set foot in England again, which Harry understood and accepted.
Life hadn't always been easy, for the wizard to mourn everything he'd left behind, for the vampire to relearn how to live. Jasper had readjusted, with difficulty, to the Cullen way of life, pretending he was a normal student, going to high school... Harry had refused. He'd bought himself a motorcycle to go to Seattle and had taken a university course there on the manufacture of flying brooms, while at the same time taking a part-time job as a broom tester. The Cullens were content to say that he attended a technical high school in Seattle, so that the Muggles wouldn't ask any questions. The days when the couple were apart were long for them, but also life-saving. Jasper was learning to exist, to live and to thrive without Harry's presence by his side, but with the certainty of finding him again in the evening.
Sometimes, the wizard spent his evenings reading the news from his country and delving into his memories, the empath, sad to deprive his companion of his friends while they were still alive, had then suggested that they come and spend a vacation at home, in Alaska where the clan had settled a month ago. Harry had been euphoric at the idea and had been in a frenzy ever since.
Finally, the fireplace lit up and out came Hermione, then Ron, George, Blaise, Luna, Neville, Dean and Seamus. Hugs and exclamations of joy were followed by laughter, anecdotes, memories and games. Jasper sometimes had to step aside to escape so many strong emotions, even positive ones, otherwise he ended up feeling like he was drunk.
"Happy?" asked Rosalie as he recharged his batteries outside.
"Happier than I ever thought I'd be. I never thought I'd ever be able to say this, but today, those nightmare years are behind me."
Rosalie held him close.
"And the more time passes, the more those horrible memories will be chased away by all the good ones you've built." she concluded.
He couldn't agree more, those five years with Harry by her side had been pure bliss, eternity with him couldn't be any different.
