The Helicopters lined up in the air, he stared them down, he flashed his dorsal plates his red color, and he watched as they all fired missiles, which pounded against his scales, he let his atomic breath loose, the ray slashing across the line of choppers, melting them and disfiguring their airframes and the resulting moment had them either explode on the spot, on the way down or on impact with the ground. He noticed one of them had actually survived and was hiding inside an Office building, he stared at him, digging his foot into the ground and then sprinting, he crashed through it, pushing through the floors and structure until he came out the other end, then catching the helicopter in his jaws and firing his atomic breath, which melted it in his mouth and caused him to spit the molten metals out.
He turned around, staring at the Office building, which had a large hole in the center now. He could see the star filled sky through it, the lack of power meaning there was far less light population now. He stared at the contraption, random anger building up in him, his dorsal spines lit back up, they flashed until he fired the red beam of energy, and it began to melt the building, he swiped it across it, the melting beam sliced through it, leaving a glowing trail of slag on its surface. He watched as the Structure deteriorated in front of him, the building collapsed, sending debris everywhere. Dust billowed over the other buildings, a nearby Motel collapsed and he watched some flames spread around the townscape. Some of the Missiles fired by the Helicopters had missed and struck an Auto-Repair Shop too, destroying both it and the vehicles around it.
He continued walking further south, and in the absence of anything he grew tense, he saw some armed vehicles approaching, these were tanks, unknown to him they had been posted to guard a nearby Civilian Evacuation point a couple of hours ago, he saw the line of red lights, that being the tail lights of vehicles evacuating, he saw them swivel their barreled guns towards them, all 4 of them. They were on a raised bridge of a highway intersection, a mess of similar structures, and they were right next to the evacuating civilians, their cars honking. He watched as 4 Flashes lit up the night, moments later the gunfire impacted him. He roared, he slammed his foot as deep into the ground as possible, making an impression of his footprint as the light went up his spine. He saw them desperately fire their lighter machine gun to try and stop him, but it was pointless, when he fired, he aimed for the supports for the bridge, strategically melting the, then aiming for a spot further down the bridge to de-stabilize it. It quickly collapsed, carrying all 4 tanks and hundreds of civilians with it, he saw an explosion as multiple vehicles exploded, and heard countless screams.
They Shot First he told himself, but deep down he felt this all could have been avoided! No, no, he knew they just would have kept trying to kill him, they didn't care. He had learned that when he absorbed the knowledge of some of them. These things destroy entire environments for no reason but to satisfy wants rather than needs, these humans would kill anything remotely threatening, whether in the form of him, aliens or even other humans. It was him or them, and his self-preservation was too strong for any empathy towards humans to prevail over his need to survive.
As he walked over the remains of the intersection he just took down, he looked to where the road led. Past the part he had destroyed, it led back onto the ground, where an endless line of red lights, the tail lights of cars, stretched into the distance further than he could see. It was at a standstill, and as he watched some people, screaming, got out of their cars and began to run away. He watched them for a moment, before moving on, he fired his beam for a moment to cut down another bridge, although this one was unoccupied. He stepped through it too once he fell and continued south. He walked over Fast-Food Establishment, pushing through it and leaving it to collapse under both his weight and damage to its structure. He looked ahead of him, he could see the vague outline of some office buildings against the sky, and they seemed to stretch south too. He kept to the highway, he felt sniper fire from another nearby office building, a Helicopter had landed there, and had dispatched about 6 soldiers who had high quality snipers, rocket launchers and a Tripod-Mounted Machine Gun.
He was confused at the attempt to destroy him, surely they knew by now it wouldn't work? He had already withstood far more fierce attacks, and they were using even less powerful weapons against him now. He lit his dorsal plates up red, and fired a piercing beam of his red atomic beam, which began to melt and burst the structure. He saw them try to clamber back into the helicopter, but he put more energy in and as it began to glow orange. It sliced clean through the office building, striking another and began to quickly melt through it too, and he then dragged it across the office building soldiers were on. He watched, as they attempted to climb into the chopper, as the building began to topple over and collapse, the helicopter, with its rotor not spinning up and properly ready, was forced down with it and became an explosion among the falling rubble. When it settled, he was able to see that the building behind it, which also felt the wrath of his beam, had begun to fall too, he watched as parts of it cascaded down, and he turned, his job complete.
Then he heard something, a Strange Noise. He looked around him, then saw the cause. He saw there were a Number of Strange aircraft approaching him, they were small and slow, with rotors on their front. These, he soon recognized thanks to his absorbed memories, were Sky Wardens. They fired missiles at him, each of them, most hit their mark, some didn't and struck a nearby Office building, destroying several floors and causing it to begin collapsing, he fired up his atomic beam, and aimed it at them, given how slow they were it's no surprise it wasn't hard to hit him, he watched, after taking down all 3 of them, as their flaming wreckages fell to the ground, he noticed some cars and people were trying to get out of the city on other routes than the highway, he paid them no attention as he walked further south.
He looked behind him, there was a Orange glow on the northern horizon. Probably caused by all of his attacks. Unknown to him, Emergency Services were completely crippled, overwhelmed and understaffed at the moment, he saw a Single Fire Truck drive past his feet on the highway, going north towards some fires. He listened, hearing other ems units far in the distance. He heard other things too, numerous other things, including more military stuff to deal with. Curious, he fired up his Dorsal Scales, they flashed red, but he didn't fire. The Dull Red Glow illuminated his surroundings and he walked slowly, he kept along the highway, he saw flashes from another office building, gunfire, he quickly brushed his atomic breath across the buildings top, melting and boiling the soldiers instantly, and sending some molten glass searing down the sides of the building. Some of the debris struck the greenery at the side of it and began to spread into fires, overtaking some grass and spreading to the trees. He saw more flashes, from a taller office building this time, he charged his atomic breath orange now, and quickly fired it through the midsection of the office building, he watched as the Soldiers flailed as it began to collapse, and they were killed in the ensuing cascade of Debris, he saw an explosion as falling helicopter was caught in the debris and destroyed.
He only just now realized how Tired he had gotten, the entire time he had been expelling his Atomic Energy, he could recharge it naturally of course, and it was recharging Constantly too, but using it this much was putting strain on him. He heard the noises of Jet Engines, and he watched as 2 A-10s streaked down and fired their iconic guns at him followed by volleys of Missiles. He Roared, but he misplaced a step on The Edge of a Highway and ended up falling over. He quickly got back up and fired his Red Atomic Beam, melting off the rear of one of the A-10s and causing it to lose control and spiral into a construction site. He then fired another beam at the Other A-10, Which Struck it and sent it into a Residential Neighborhood.
Just before he could get even a little bit of a break, another missile struck. As he turned his head, searching for the culprit, find a single approaching Apache, then seeing 3 more behind it, digging his foot into the earth he powered up his Dorsals again, then unleashing the beam, it grazed the lead apache as they took evasive maneuvers, he saw molten slag dripping off the missile compartment of the lead apache, and a moment later he saw the 'wing' the missiles were attached to fall off. An Explosion sounded as it hit the ground, and he fired his atomic breath at the lead apache, destroying it almost instantly. He turned his head to see another apache flying at him, he sidestepped the missiles it fired and slashed it with his beam, melting the side of it and causing it to explode midair. He saw the other one retreat and fly behind the nearby offices, seeing this, he powered up his Orange Atomic Breath and fired it straight into the building, dragging it along, as it came out behind the building the chopper was instantly struck by the beam and was obliterated, molten slag and metal vapor either falling or condensing into a small puff of the stuff. He looked around, scanning for more targets, but none were within range. He powered down his Dorsal plates, feeling drained, exhausted after expending so much of his energy. He gave a last glance at this battlefield, the Office building that was struck was collapsing, dust billowed out from it as he saw it collapse into itself and debris get scattered along the streets, there was an explosion as a Car was destroyed in the midst of all of it, and he could see the fires inside the building.
Curious, He turned behind him and stared into the distance. He could still see the Orange Glow, the fires he started long ago were starting to merge into larger fires, he knew that they would probably get much worse for anyone near them, and he gave a grunt at the Entire Thing. The Fires had gotten so extensive that their glow was starting to cause their own light pollution, and now the stars were fading. He also could tell dawn was approaching, and with a quick pace to make sure he got there as quick as possible he continued along the highway, further south and hopefully away from this madness.
"Well, Mr Serizawa, I would like to introduce you to Doctor James Owens of the Megafauna Society." General MacKenzie said, Serizawa really wanted to tell him that he just wanted to sleep, but he couldn't really take his anger out on anyone at this point. He had resigned himself that since he had caused this mess, that he would do his best to deal with it.
"I'm Doctor Serizawa, soon to be former head of Project Mutagen." Serizawa said, Shaking his hand.
"I see the General here already introduced me, but I'm Doctor Owens, I'm head of the Megafauna research team from…multiple universities, actually." Owens said, "We have been conducting research on this 'Gojira' Specimen and we may have an idea for the Valid Source of its Energy."
"Is that so?" Serizawa said, "Well, we already know its Nuclear Radiation, so I'm not sure what we can learn from y-" He was cut off before he had a Chance from Owens, who quickly explained what his team had come up with.
"Well, we know it's Nuclear, but I believe we figured out what makes him tick, specifically." Owens explained, once Serizawa began paying attention Owens continued, "We have been working around the clock for the past 10 hours trying to figure him out, we calculated so far, based on his Energy attack, that he was expelled at least 4.5 Kilotons of Energy, although these were done 2 and a Half Hours ago so it might be shaky at best."
"That's not too much, it's way less than Little Boy…" Serizawa said.
"Yes." Owens said, "But 4.5 Kilotons is the amount we calculated based on damages to materials that we don't have a good understanding of, we can't look up the entire construction orders of every damn building in Oklahoma and Texas, can we?" He asked, and Serizawa just nodded, Owens Continued. "So what I gave you was the Low Estimate, the High Estimate was closer to 15 Kilotons, and given that not all of his beams hit the grounds it could be even higher than that, this makes it comparable to actual Nuclear bombs, it is very close in Yield to the Nuclear Bomb 'Trinity' test."
"So, we are dealing with a Walking Nuclear Bomb, Basically?" Serizawa asked.
"I think it's even more than that." Owens responded, "That's just the energy beam, We've seen the calculations for his weight range up to nearly 300 tons to as low as 100, and either way you need a truckload of energy to move that across 250 miles of land."
"What are you getting at?" Serizawa asked, growing impatient.
"We have come to believe it is not a Fission Based Reaction driving Gojira, but Rather a Fusion Reaction system within his biological self." Owens answered.
Serizawa gave him a Look, "And what evidence do you have for such a Hypothesis?"
"Well, look at the radiation coming from Gojira." Owens said, "These readings are not very elevated at all, not as much as we suspected, there seems to be very little waste coming from him in terms of actual nuclear material, granted, we haven't much time to study him but everything about him seems to support a Fusion based reaction, his energy beam included. "
Owens brought out the Star Spectrograph again, showing him the colors.
"His Atomic Ray resembles that of the Stars, which themselves run on Fusion, his ray might be a way for him to expel fusion energy, his radiation levels would also be higher if he used fission." Owens said.
"I see." Serizawa said he looked at the map of the situation and noticed something.
"Komodithrax has surfaced off Java!" He said, then looking at the other part of the map and seeing Kamoebas had also surfaced in the Caribbean.
Something bad was about to happen
