SUP GUYS~~ It has been a month hasn't it haha...The reason I delayed uploading this at the end of August was because I just noticed my birthday was around the corner so I wanted to released it on the exact day as my present to you all~~~ So, sorry for scaring anyone that I though I was MIA. Well, things have been looking up for me as I finally got my 1st dose of vaccine~~ After much debate, I decided I will split two matches per chapter as it would make another gigantic chapter in which many seem to love so I'll do it for the Central Arc~~ Hope you like the match ups I came up with and how a certain character make her awakening~~

"Cheers~~!"
"Urm…is it really ok for me to join you all?" Miyoko asked as she felt out of place.
"Uwawa…I'm sorry for inviting you suddenly Hojo-san…" Megumi said as she felt guilty.
"Nono…There's no need for you to apologize Megumi-san…I felt really happy that you invited me and…this is quite nice as well." Miyoko said with a smile as she saw everyone happily chatting and enjoying each other's company.
Sensing the longing smile, Megumi took the initiative and pulled Miyoko towards the 'girls' group, and everyone else sensing Megumi's intention, welcome her with open arms.
"Welcome Miyoko-san~~~we were just talking about you~~" Ryoko greeted as she handed her a cup that was not filled with wine.
"Thanks, you were talking about me?" Miyoko thanked Ryoko before tilting her head in confusion.
Laughing at her confused expression, Yuki brought out a magazine that has her on the cover page.
"This is?!" Miyoko exclaimed in surprise.
Inching closer for a peek, Megumi widens her eyes when she saw Miyoko pose with a basketball in her arms and wearing the Japan National Basketball Team outfit.
"Hojo-san! You're incredibly talented!" Megumi praised loudly.
"You're not one to talk Megumi, you could have easily earned a spot in the National Table Tennis team as well. Haa…Life really is unfair sometimes…" Ikumi grumbled as she reminded Megumi of her own ridiculous specs as well.
"Hahaha~~~" As the girls laughed at Megumi's blushing expression, Miyoko softly chuckled to herself that this was the silliness that was lacking in her life. A place where she can enjoy the feeling of companionship.
As Miyoko returned from her thoughts, she was surprised to see everyone was looking at her with a smile.
"You should smile more often Miyoko-san, you have quite a dazzling smile" Ryoko said with a smile of her own.
"?!" (Miyoko)
"Hehe~~I wonder how many boys or girls have confessed to you." Ryoko said with a glint in her eyes.
Catching Ryoko's drift, Yuki declared loudly as she pointed at Megumi and Miyoko: "Now that the introduction is over~~~ Let's have some full-on girls talk!"
"EEH?!" Megumi and Miyoko exclaimed at the same time.
While Megumi and Miyoko were under interrogation from mainly Yuki and Ryoko, Soma was silently staring at a pink-haired girl with a smirk on his face.
After starting for a few seconds, Soma opened his mouth and asked: "So…Arato…How…"
"Don't say anything. If u do, I'm gonna serve you a drink that will cause you to have erectile dysfunction." Hisako replied seriously.
"Oi Oi…doesn't that contradict your policy of medicinal cooking…"
While Hisako was looking at Soma with discontent, the person who caused this whole scenario spoke while snuggling Hisako. "Hehehe…Onee-sama can really be mean sometimes but she doesn't mean any harm…"
"Ooh~~Thanks for your explanation Sadatsuka-san." Soma said while looking at Hisako teasingly.
"Nao…You were supposed to be on my side…" Hisako whined as she looked at the girl who was hugging her waist.
"Hehehe…I just don't want to let others misunderstand Onee-sama's personality~~" Nao replied while looking into Hisako's eyes.
"Haa…I blame you Erina…" Hisako complained as she glanced at her friend hoping to get a reaction out of her but she was still silently drinking her cup of rice juice.
In most scenarios, a dense male protagonist would have asked his partner in private what's bothering her, but Soma has already graduated from the Dense Black Hole University and knew what exactly was troubling his two lovers.
"Don't think about it too much Erina." Soma comforted Erina as he lightly ruffles her well-kept hair which causes her to look up at him.
"It's pretty obvious that was a scheme by Eizan." Soma said as he hit the nail in the coffin as he saw Erina's brow furrowed.
"It was the perfect stage for him to have his revenge on me, but your boyfriend just happens to be a stubborn bastard and refuses to succumb to his plans." Soma joked which earn a slight chuckle from Erina.
"But Man…Mimasaka was genuinely something. To pull off the same idea as me and to have the same score as Hayama. He could give the others a run for their money but too bad he won't have that chance. Soma said as he began fixing Erina's hair.
"Yeah…Even though he is on a 99 consecutive Shokugeki win streak, he has to face her next." Erina said as she laid her back on Soma's chest.
"Since she will be taking care of his lackey, when is your turn to beat down Eizan?" Soma suddenly asked Erina as he finished tying her hair into a ponytail.
Not surprised that Soma was able to see through her, Erina replied with eyes that promised pain. "In three weeks, just before the Autumn Leaf Viewing."
"Guess, I'll have to swoop in and get the 10th seat before that as well~" Soma said cheekily.
Pinching his cheek lightly, Erina smiled lovingly at Soma before leaning in for a peck on the lips.
"Mmm~"
While Erina and Soma indulged in each other's lips, Hisako just shook her head at how love struck her dear friend was.
"Is this what love can do…?" Hisako softly muttered.
"I want to try it with Onee-sama…" Nao muttered with an even softer voice which luckily evaded Hisako's eardrums.
One could only wonder what Hisako's reaction will be if she had heard what Nao said, but let's leave that story for another time.
As the law of the Universe finally acted and separated the two, Soma reminded Erina that she still owes him payback from what happened earlier in the day which causes Erina to feign ignorance and wink at Soma before gesturing at the balcony.
"Yeah, leave her to me." Soma replied as he got up and headed to the balcony to comfort his second lover.
While motionlessly staring at the starry night, Alice suddenly felt an additional piece of cloth around her. Without even turning around, she softly spoke: "It's not that chilly you know"
"Heh, the night breeze can't hold a candle to the stare you gave Mimasaka when the draw was announced." Soma answered back as he placed his arm around Alice's shoulder.
"Hai hai~~~Thank you, everyone, for standing by. Now…we're about to commence the drawing for the first round of the election's main tournament. The drawings are done based on lottery so please direct your eyes on stage~~" Urara said as the lights zeroed in on the individuals standing on stage.
As the spotlight shone on them, a wave of cheers and excitement erupted from the crowd as the one's conducting the draw were none other than Rindo and Isshiki.
"Etto…it is our pleasure to invite the current 2nd seat Kobayashi Rindo-senpai and 7th seat Isshiki Satoshi-senpai to help us with the draw. Could you two please give a comment on our contestants?" Sakaki asked nervously.
Always being the hyperactive one, Rindo grabbed onto the mic and said energetically: "I saw that Otouto! You really shut that idiot up. Hahaha~~~ The look on his face was priceless~~~"
"Yes, that was quite a sight to behold fufu. But, I think it would be best if we don't reveal who he is to save his dignity." Isshiki followed up with a smile of his own.
As the crowd had their own guesses as to who the individual was, Rindo who was never afraid of the consequences said the name out loudly: "Eeh~~~? Eizan's face was like a flaming turkey~~~His feathers were clearly ruffled by Otouto."
"Now you have really gone and done it fufu. I'm sorry about her behavior Eizan-senpai. If you would like, I could give the stage to you to reply." Isshiki said with a smile.
If one was not a master in the arts of sarcasm, one would think Isshiki was really kind to allow Eizan a chance to answer back, but…not in Eizan's ears as he has been living his whole life by sarcastically degrading others.
"YOU BITCH RINDO! YOU CREEPY-ASS GOODY TWO SHOES ISSHIKI!" Eizan growled before storming away from the hall, but just as he was about to leave, he smashed his face onto the buff body of his compliance and fell on his butt which earned another round of laugher from Rindo with the crowd also joining in.
Once the fuming Eizan had left the hall, Rindo rubs the tears in her eyes and composes herself before giving her evaluation about what she has seen in the preliminaries.
"For starters, I was expecting it to be a two-people domination with Alice-chan and Otouto but one certain group surprise me~~ It's pleasant to know that even after we graduate, there will be more than capable chefs filling for us~~" Rindo praised.
"Fufu, I am very proud of my kouhai's. It was such a high-stakes preliminary and all of them delivered with stand-out performances" Isshiki praised with his trademark smile.
"Thank you for the praises Rindo-senpai, Isshiki-senpai. Now before we get the draw underway, here are some things that I need to inform the participants." Urara thanked the two before facing the qualified eight.
"Firstly, the pots are split into A and B which means that the ones who qualified from the same block will not face each other in the first round of the main tournament. Secondly, after the match-ups have been decided, we will also be drawing the themes for the matches. And lastly, the main tournament will be held in two-week times with two matches for each day." Urara announced before giving a signal for the go-ahead.
As soon as the first name was drawn out from pot A, everyone in the arena held onto their breath as the paper read: "Mimasaka Subaru". Everyone in the crowd thought no one would want to face someone who can mimic and exceed their opponents cooking by just making one adjustment but they were immediately proven wrong as a small giggle resounded around the arena.
"Hehehe~~~it looks like it's my lucky day~~~I'm looking forward to our match Mi-ma-sa-ka-kun~~~" The voice said cheerfully but, everyone felt chill running up their spines as the girl was anything but smiling.
However, what they felt was complete child's play compared to the opponent of the said girl as he was shivering in his boots as he saw the girl's lips change into a crescent shape while her eyes were staring at him with such coldness he felt numb.
"He had it coming. After I'm done with him, Eizan's next." Alice said in a bone-chilling voice.
"Heh~~You have to wait for your turn since Erina and I call dibs on him first." Soma said in a relaxed voice.
"Mu~~~That will be a problem since what's left of him when You and Erina are done with him. He won't have any worth left after he had been kicked out of the Elite 10." Alice replied in her usual tone.
"Heh~~You really don't pull any punches on the people you hate huh" Soma said as he gives Alice a light shoulder massage.
"Mou~~~I knew you would have something up your sleeve but it doesn't make it less infuriating for me and Erina when those two keep talking crap about you." Alice said as she relaxes into Soma's touch.
"It's not that I'm not angry myself but If I can choose where others direct their negativity to then I would choose myself over you both thousand times over." Soma said as he places his chin on Alice's shoulder.
"Mu~~~that's not an excuse to not get angry for yourself~~~" Alice pouted cutely.
"Haha~~I can leave that part to you, right? Make sure to give Mimasaka a good old shellacking on my behalf." Soma said as he softly held Alice's clenched knuckles
"Mou~~~I thought you would take care of the chores~~~But~~~for this one instance, I'll happily clean up the trash~~~" Alice cheerfully reply before leaning closer to Soma.
"Chu~~~"
As the two finally parted with a stream of saliva between them, they were able to hear soft mumbles beneath them.
"…Isami…we can't say that it's not a grand welcoming right…"
"Nii-san…I don't think they will appreciate it if they heard us…"
"Oh… We heard you all right" Soma said as he gave the Aldini siblings a wave.
"?!"
"What are you waiting for? The party has already started an hour ago. Don't tell me you're getting cold feet now after drawing me huh~~" Soma teased.
"?! Me getting cold feet?! Now it's really on Yukihira! I'll have to remind you who your true rival is!" Takumi shouted as he quickly dashed into the dorm to give Soma a piece of his mind.
"Should you really be teasing him that much?" Alice poked Soma's cheek while relaxing into his embrace.
"Heh~~It's no fun if he was too tensed after all. But still, what are the odds of me facing Takumi huh." Soma said as he recalled the match-ups that were drawn after Alice.
As the crowd was ignorant to what Mimasaka was feeling, they look on and saw Rindo drawing the second name out of pot A which is "Kurokiba Ryo"
Once again, everyone held onto their breath since it was well-known that Kurokiba was Alice's assistant and if his aggressive personality in the preliminary was to go by, there was one opponent they fear that would get intimidated before even facing him.
However, it was as if fate itself was mocking them. Isshiki pulls out the name that they fear. "Tadokoro Megumi"
With everyone now downhearted and disappointed that one match was such one-sided, someone in the crowd burst out in laughter. "Bwahaha, Megumi actually got drawn with Kurokiba?! This is too good to be true~~"
As everyone's focus was on the orange-haired girl, they missed out on the handshake between a bright red face Megumi and a seemingly unheard of gentle expression on Kurokiba.
With the second match-up now decided, Rindo pulled out the third name from Pot A and gave a little grin before showing it to the crowd. "Yukihira Soma."
The crowd gritted in anger as the name of this magically appeared transfer student's pop up. It was an understatement to say that half of the student body wanted to see Soma failed but time and time again he proves their expectations wrong. If only there was someone who can match up to him.
"Ano…Isshiki-senpai has drawn Takumi Aldini. Thus, the third match-up will be between Yukihira Soma and Takumi Aldini." Sakaki announced to the delight of the crowd.
But, none were as excited and delighted as Takumi as he immediately declared a Shokugeki between him and Soma which earn a rupture of applause from the crowd.
Smirking at his friend's antic, Soma accepted the challenge as he was excited as well to see how much Takumi has grown from the days of their youth.
With the declaration of a Shokugeki for the third match, Alice immediately issued another one herself in which Mimasaka comply immediately as he has never lost a Shokugeki in 99 outings. This in turn leads everyone to turn their attention towards Megumi who was shyly hiding behind Kurokiba. As the crowd keeps pestering for them to do a Shokugeki as well, Kurokiba growled towards the crowd to silence them.
With just one glare, everyone knowingly kept their mouth shut and directed their attention back towards the draw. It doesn't take a genius to figure out the last match-up as there were only two contestants left and it was probably the closest one out of the four.
Yes, it was Hayama Akira vs Arato Hisako. The favorite coming into the preliminary taking on the secretary of the god's tongue. If that was not enough to undermine how close this match was, they both scored the same amount of points in the preliminary just now. It was safe to say that the main tournament has saved the best for last.
As Hisako and Hayama exchanged a formal nod with each other, they could not help but feel that this match was not close at all. For Hisako, the only chefs she acknowledged better than herself were Erina, Soma, and Alice. It was not to say that she was arrogant about it, but it does not hurt anyone to have a bit of self-confidence in herself especially since figuring out what she was cooking for.
As for Hayama, he has this arrogant confidence like a certain coral-colored hair chef. He always dismisses his opponent's chances until proven wrong. His only goal is to prove that his cooking is the best and that's all there is to it. Thus, he will only see Hisako as an obstacle to his goal and nothing more.
"Hai hai~~~Now that the match-ups have been decided, it's time to move on to part two where Rindo-senpai will have the honor of drawing out the themes for the matches." (Urara)
Now that she was given permission, Rindo began watching the machine intently and waiting for the right moment to draw the themes. Soma could not help but chuckle as this image was identical to a cat waiting for its ball of yarn to stop before pouncing on it.
As if on cue, Rindo quickly swiped 4 papers out of the machine before handling them one by one to Isshiki to announced the themes.
Accepting the microphone handed to him by Sakaki, Isshiki began announcing the themes for the matches. "Fufu, we have some really interesting themes here. Firstly, for the match between Alice and Mimasaka, the theme will be Elk. Secondly, for the match between Megumi and Kurokiba, the theme will be seafood. The theme for the third match between Soma and Takumi will be Tomatoes and Duck will be the theme for the final match between Hisako and Hayama.
"Your luck is quite something Soma~~~To think you'll be competing against the staple ingredient of an Italian chef~~" Alice giggled.
"Heh~~It was too bad the theme wasn't cherry though~~" Soma said as he places his hands on Alice's hips.
"Oh~~why is that~~~" Alice asked teasingly.
"I would love to have some experience with cherries before popping one~~" Soma said mischievously.
"My~~~Soma is being quite bold~~~" Alice teased as she threw her arms behind her and wrapped them around Soma's neck.
"Heh~~~says the one who is constantly inviting me. But I'm guilty as well since I don't stop both of you"
"Hehe~~~You best don't expect me to stop anytime soon~~~I don't know about Erina though~~"
"Heh, what do you have to say about that Erina?" Soma said as he looked back to see Erina carrying two cups of juice.
Walking forward, Erina gave them their share before replying with a smirk: "I'm in too deep now and I'm looking forward to seeing how long you can hold yourself back."
"Ooo~~~that's a fun challenge Erina~~~Hehe~~~Prepare yourself Soma~~" Alice said sultrily.
"Heh~~Normal protagonist would scream please give me a break but I'm not normal! So~~~I'll welcome your challenge!" Soma said which earned giggles from his lovers.
As the gorgeous starlight sky illuminates the trio, unbeknownst to them, a creepy shadow was silently lurking in the background closely observing his target.
While the morning sun normally grants its blessing to the early risers, a voice filled with too much vigor for this time of day echoed all around the Polar Star Dorm, waking up anyone who dares to try to sleep in. "Alice, Soma! We're already late!"
"Urgh…isn't the normal catchphrase we're about to be late…" Alice said groggily which further tick off Erina.
"OW! What was that for Erina?!" Alice groaned as Erina threw a pillow straight at her.
"Hmph! Now for you, mister" Erina said as she lined up the angle and aim another pillow at Soma but he somehow dodged out of the way.
"I'm up, I'm up!" Soma pleaded with mercy.
"Hmph! It's frustrating that you manage to dodge that but it's even more frustrating that you two are sleeping in! Don't you know what today is?" Erina asked as she repeatedly stomped her foot.
"Oh~~~It's Monday~~~Aah!" Alice replied by trying to play the fool but she immediately had to dodge to the side as Erina's pillow narrowly misses her.
"Any more pointless things to say…?" Erina asked as her voice became colder.
"Urm…Could you should me how you make pillows magically appear? Woah! Watch it!" Soma said before quickly maneuvering his body from getting hit by the pillow shower.
As the game of hit the bastard unfolded between Erina and Soma, Alice went ahead and got herself ready. She finished off by checking her attire one last time before going over to her special wardrobe where she keeps everything precious to her. After taking out one of her treasures, she wrapped it around her right arm and softly smile at it.
Once she was done, she went back to their shared bedroom and saw a very ragged-looking Soma and Erina. They both look at the piece of clothing around her arm and smile warmly at it.
"Hehe~~~I thought I will bring her along for the journey~~~"
"Hoh~~~You only wear it on special occasions, right? Heh, I bet she will enjoy your upcoming performance." Soma said as he began tidying himself up.
"Best don't disappoint any of us then Alice," Erina said before walking out of the room.
But just before Erina left, she softly whispered to Alice: "I'll be expecting you and him there with me."
"Hehe~~"
After Soma finishes dressing himself up in his normal Yukihira attire, the trio sets off towards their destination which was the Autumn Election's main tournament.
"Hello everyone~~~My name is Urara and I'll be your Emcee for today's matches~~It will be a pleasure working with you all again~~~" Urara said as she winked at the student body earning roars of appreciation from the boys and glares of irritation from the girls.
Taking in the reaction from the crowd, Urara began by introducing the main hall that the contestants will be doing battle. "The Chandra's Room."
While everyone was marveling at the sights, VIP guests' begun entering the hall in hopes of enjoying talented young chefs battling against each other. To no one's surprise, the judges from the previous round were among the guest and it only makes it more enticing to see who the judges for this first round of matches will be.
As if on cue, the spotlight began shinning on the row of judges and the crowd immediately gasp in surprise as the one seated in the middle was none other than their headmaster and the food demon king 'Nakiri Senzaemon'
Even though everyone's attention should be on such a household name, the crowd, mostly the boys, were captivated by the gorgeous lady sitting next to him. She may be mistaken as somehow sickly due to her pale-skinned and silver hair but in reality, she is the most energetic when teasing someone dear to her. Yes, she is none other than the Research Division Head of Nakiri International, Nakiri Leonora. As her friendly red eyes scanned through the entire student body, she pouted when she did not catch sight of the ones she was looking for. But, there was one thing she did catch, the lovestruck faces of numerous boys.
"Fufu, I can understand your eagerness Leonora-dono. I myself am waiting for my cute Megumi-chan to appear." A girly voice said next to her as she was waiting on the edge of her seats for the appearance of someone she bonded closely with during the Training camp.
"Hehe~~I'm excited to get to know the one you've been speaking of Hinako-senpai. I also heard from Orie Sendawara-dono that she is her dark horse for the tournament." Another girly voice spoke from beside Senzaemon.
"My~~~I knew she was special from the first moment I saw her~~I would love to hear more about her performance in the preliminary Sonoka-chan." Hinako said to her kouhai.
"Hehe~~I would be delighted to tell you about it Hinako-senpai. But, we shouldn't play any favors right Taki-senpai?" Sonoka replied before looking at the girl sitting next to her.
But, it seems like the girl sitting next to her was not paying attention to her as she was mumbling to herself "Grr…why did I draw the bad end of the stick. Curse that bastard!"
"Taki-senpai, are you ok?" Sonoka asked with concern as she looked her in the eye.
"Uwaah! What do you think you are doing you breast monster?!" Taki shouted.
"You were spacing out, is there something bothering you? You have this trouble expression on your face." Sonoka asked as she inches closer.
'The only thing bothering me are the weapons on your chest! Life is so unfair!' Taki thought in her mind as she reaches out to the object of her irritation.
"Kyaa?! What are you doing Taki-senpai?!" Sonoka screamed embarrassingly.
"My~~ You two are as close as ever huh Taki-channnn" Hinako said as she observed the two with a smile on her face.
"Shut up thirties woman. Also, please stop acting cute by stretching out the words." Taki said immediately.
"I'm twentyyy! Mou! That is why you can't find a boyfriend with that attitude!" Hinako replied teasingly.
"After seeing your relationship with that lucky bastard, imma hard pass on a relationship" Taki replies with a deadpanned expression
As the judges' table was filled with banter between the three alumni, the students can't help but feel awe at the all-star lineup on the table. Even if the two Nakiris are out of the equation, there is still three former 2nd seat of the Elite 10 the contestants must somehow amazed with their cooking.
Seeing that the crowd only knew them from magazines, Urara took this opportunity to introduce the three female alumni. "Hai hai~~~I bet everyone is interested to know more about senpai's so I'll be making a brief introduction of them~~."
"Firstly, the senpai sitting beside Nakiri-dono is Hinako Inui-senpai that we met in the training camp. She is a very carefree and caring senpai that we can get along with but boys please stay clear of her when she is with her boyfriend because her boyfriend will skin you alive." Urara while gesturing a line across her neck.
"Moving on, we have the dynamic duo of the 88th and 89th generation: Taki Tsunozaki-senpai and Sonoka Kikuchi-senpai. Even though they are only a few years older than us, their skill is way out of our reach as they both created their own restaurants just two years after graduating! It was even said that their skill rivals the older generations with comparisons even made to the legendary female chef of the 69th generation." Urara said to the shock of the crowd.
"Uuu…that's a bit of an over-exaggeration. I'm still uncertain if I can match up to Riko-senpai." Sonoka said as she squirms in her seat.
"Tch, that woman is not the best female chef ever in Totsuki for nothing. But, one day, I'll bring her down so don't grow timid on me you blob monster!" Taki declared before harassing Sonoka again.
"Ahem~~~One more thing to note is that please don't advantage of Sonoka-senpai's kindness. She will greet and treat everyone politely due to her reserved personality but be warned that Taki-senpai will always be there for her. Listen carefully and bear in mind that you would never want to deal with her contemptuous personality. She will break your dreams of becoming a chef in an instant." Urara said to the crowd before receiving a message from her partner.
"Now then, without further ado, let's kick start the Autumn Elections Main tournament by inviting out the contestants for the first match-up" Urara said as she directed the crowds' attention towards the left gate.
"Coming out first, we have someone who has no specialty but could make use of his opponent's dish against them with just a slight twist. He has also won 99 straight Shokugeki while stealing his opponent's dearest treasure. We have the professional stalker aka scum Mimasaka Subaru." Urara said as Mimasaka walks through the gate with a twisted expression on his face.
"Now onto his opponent, one half of the Nakiri princesses, the heaven-sent child of molecular gastronomy. An authentic genius in and out of cooking…How many more adjectives and praises are there…" Urara suddenly stops as she looked at the list she was given.
"MOU! What is with that lackluster introduction?!" Alice said as she suddenly appeared beside Urara.
"Uwaah?! Wait…where are your machines?" Urara exclaimed in shock before asking the question on everyone's mind.
"Hmm~~~? Did I ever say that I was going to do the same thing as I did in the preliminaries? Plus, I don't think he could afford the machines tailored-made by my company." Alice said as she glanced at her opponent.
"HAHAHA, this is well within my expectations. I have already foreseen that you were trying to switch things up from normal." Mimasaka laughed in Alice's face.
"Well, best get my introduction right in the semi-finals Urara-chan~~~Just be careful of stalkers ok~~~" Alice said cheerfully to Urara before walking to her station as she thoroughly ignored Mimasaka.
As Mimasaka walks to his station with his eyes not leaving Alice, Urara decided to explain the format of judging which was different from previous years.
"Normally, the judging format for the main tournament was for the five judges to come to an agreement for the winner. But seeing as this year involves two Shokugeki, we have decided to change things up and judges will now be allowed to cast votes for the dishes they prefer. Thus, meaning that this main tournament will be conducted in full Shokugeki fashion!" Urara announced with a rupture of cheers from the crowd.
"But, stakes will only be on the line for the matches that have been officially recognized as a Shokugeki by the council. So, before we get this match underway, what is it that you are wagering for this Shokugeki?" Urara explaining before asking the two.
"Slurp…I want that headband that is tightly wrapped around your arm. I can't wait to see the face of despair when you lose it." Mimasaka said maniacally
"I want him to give back the precious tools he stole away from their owners" Alice replied simply.
"HAH?! Don't you think your overreaching?! Do you think that one crappy headband of yours can rival ninety-nine tools?!" Mimasaka said disbelievingly.
"How about I add on my machines then?" Alice exclaimed without batting an eyelid.
"…Are you serious…" Mimasaka exclaimed in shock as he knows how precious those things are to Alice.
"Yeah. I think it's a fair trade-off don't you think?" Alice said with a bone-chilling smile.
"Gulp…Hahahaha! You got yourself a deal, Nakiri Alice! Now, time to begin the fun." Mimasaka laughed as he could not believe his luck.
"Start!"
As the Shokugeki finally got underway, no one was surprised that Alice and Mimasaka were using the same part of the main ingredient.
"Wow~~they both decided to use tenderloin. Tenderloins are the two strips of very tender meat under the loin, behind the ribs. It is also the same as fillet mignon in beef." Sonoka explained as she is a western-cuisine expert.
"Well, tenderloins are the primo-cuts of a deer or an elk after all. But still, they are lean and tender enough to not require any more salt as seasonings. So, this match will be decided on the sauce huh." Taki followed up with her own verdict.
"Ma~~~It's such a joyous sight to see Alice working without her machines. Don't you think so as well Otou-sama?" Leonora asked her father-in-law.
"Hoho~~Indeed. It has been six years since she left with you and Sōe to train herself after all. I wonder which version shows the best of her?" Senzaemon said as he strokes his beard.
"During the training camp, she and Yukihira Soma presented me with their chicken tempura dipped in Karachi mustard ponzu sauce. It was so delicious it gave me images of my hometown." Hinako said as she remembers the dish fondly.
While the judges were having their conversation, the battlefield was only filled with one person speaking while the other work in silence.
"Nakiri Alice, the darling of Molecular gastronomy, a genius that appears once in a century. But, she is always destined to be the shadow of the god's tongue. Ironically, it was her own cousin." Mimasaka said loudly for everyone in the crowd to hear.
Seeing that Alice has no intention of responding, Mimasaka kept up revealing some harsh past about her. "On your 6th birthday, you found out the ugly truth that people were buttering up to you just to make an impression on your cousin. What was even more laughable was that you actually thought people were here for you and not her."
"Deciding to hold this grudge to yourself, you flew away to Denmark to make a name for yourself. It was exactly 5 years ago today where you succeeded at the most influential international Concours in molecular gastronomy. You claim that cooking is an art and went on to win several more tournaments including the World's Juniors. But, you never thought it was enough to compare with your dear cousin."
"Even now, you're still trying your all to catch up to her. You even went through the trouble of sharing a boyfriend with her. Heck, you're even wearing the same ridiculous headband as Yukihira Soma to..." Mimasaka suddenly stopped as he felt a blade close to his neck.
"Now he's really gone and done it…" Soma said as he saw the bangs covering Alice's eyes.
"You're one to talk…if it wasn't against the rules, you would stand beside him with a scythe in your hand to shut him up." Erina said as she looks at Soma who was glaring downwards at Mimasaka.
"Touché…You would literally drop a meteor shower on him to erase him from existence." Soma replied as Erina has this cold look on her face.
It was extremely fortunate for the crowd that Soma and Erina were watching the match in Erina's VIP box, if not, they would swear on their life that they never trash-talked any one of the trios again. Especially not in front of them.
Despite seeing her daughter getting treated disrespectfully by some scum, Leonora was doing well in hiding her anger. However, what she said afterward send shivers down the judges' spine.
"There's a saying that the quiet ones are the most dangerous when they snap, but what about the talkative ones who suddenly became quiet."
It was a quiet mutter but everyone in the arena heard it. There was an appropriate world that was fit to describe the case but no one dared to say it out loud. As everyone's attention turns towards Alice, they could see that she was now looking up at Mimasaka uninterestedly.
"Could you shut your mouth for a bit? I'm all for listening to my own past but you best get your facts right." Alice said with a cold tone
"?!"
"Mimasaka Subaru, a kid who only wanted recognition from his father." Alice suddenly said which caught Mimasaka off guard.
"?!"
"Shaming his own father in front of his customers by showcasing his own skills by changing and improving his cakes."
"…"
"Due to your father's weak personality, you were sent here to Totsuki where you can satisfy your own fetish by improving your opponent's dish a step further."
"…"
"In the end, you still can't comprehend what your father meant by a chef with originality." Alice ended off by sounding pity.
"That's enough from you! I'll shut that mouth of yours by proving it here once and for all that you talented chefs are nothing special!" Mimasaka exclaimed in anger as he quickens his pace on his dish.
"Ara?" Alice said to herself as she noticed what Mimasaka was doing.
"This dish will decide whether his journey as a chef can continue." Soma said as he too noticed what was happening.
"You two really watch too much anime…But still, Talk-no-Jutsu is the most effective when changing one's perspective after all." Erina whined as she caught a glimpse at the dish Mimasaka was bringing up to the table.
"Hyahahahya! This is my improved Elk tenderloin with ancho sauce!" Mimasaka said as he introduced his dish to the judges.
"Hoh? Grilled tenderloin with a sauce that brings out a spiciness flavor." Senzaemon said as he goes through the dish.
"Interesting. This is a Mexican spin-off to tenderloin dishes." Leonora said as she noticed the ingredients for the sauce.
"I can see you used ancho chilies, caramelized onions, and garlic for the sauce. Is this what brings the flavor to the light tenderloin taste?" Sonoka asked as she looks at the dish.
"Sonoka-chan, this is not just normal ancho chillies/poblano. He used Chile de árbol or Arbol chilies which brings a smoky, nutty, and spicier flavor to the dish." Hinako answered her kouhai.
"Hmph, this is not just about what ingredients you used. I don't care what special name the ingredients you used, all I want to know is will it pair well with a tenderloin with less than no flavor on its own." Taki said as she looked at Mimasaka.
"Heh, I thought you would appreciate it more if I use Mexican-based ingredients considering you're a Spanish cuisine expert" Mimasaka replied with earn a non-amused look from Taki.
As the introductory phrase is now over, the judges dip their tenderloin in the sauce before placing it inside their mouths.
"Mmm?! It's delicious!" Hinako said out loud as she was the first to react.
"Indeed. Your own version of Pico de Gallo (Salsa Fresca) adds to the taste delightfully." Senzaemon said as he took another bite.
"You soaked the white onions, diced tomatoes, cilantro (coriander), Serrano pepper, and Habanero chilies in lime juice when making the sauce. It's quite a balance between spiciness and numbness" Leonora commented as she took another bite.
"Hmph, you also place dried, powdered green onion with some black pepper on the sides of the tenderloin. For the taste, I'll give you 80, while for the artistic part I'll give you 20." Taki commented as she was familiar with using them as a chef finishing touch to a plate to give it an artistic impression and an extra layer of flavor.
"The tenderloin was grilled nicely. I can already taste the slightly sweet flavor from the tender meat even before dipping it in the sauce. The sauce is a nice change-up as people normally just enjoy their steak with additional sweetness from red wine sauce. This concept is something I can make use of in my restaurant so I thank you for that." Sonoka said as she smiled at Mimasaka.
"Ma~~You can actually cook something original huh~~" Alice said as she was suddenly between her grandfather and mother.
"Huh?! This is the exact dish that you're making! I just substituted the ancho chilies used with my Picante hotter Arbol chilies" Mimasaka replied angrily.
"Mou! What are you talking about, this is nothing like my dish." Alice said to the shock of Mimasaka.
"Sorry for the wait Okaa-sama, Ojii-sama. This is my Elk tenderloin Scandinavian Version~~Oagariyo~~~" Alice said as she mimics Soma by removing the headband on her wrist and held it in her hands.
"Hoho~~What was the inspiration for this dish my dear granddaughter?" Senzaemon asked Alice.
"Well~~~this was inspired by Megumi-chan who defeated me in the preliminaries~~" Alice said to the surprise of many especially Megumi who was preparing backstage.
"Fufu~~~you are still the same sore loser as always Alice~~" Leonora laughed at her daughter in which she pouted cutely.
"Wow, the tenderloin is pan-seared to medium-rare perfection in the oven." Sonoka praised as she cut the tender and light tenderloin in half.
"My~~this sauce has such a velvety smooth texture. I wonder what it is made of?" Hinako wondered to herself as the sauce was sparkling underneath the tenderloin.
"Hmph, you have a better artistic sense than the dish just now by placing Braised Red Cabbage, Smashed Rutabagas, Dill and Cucumber Salad as the decoration and side dishes." Taki praised uncharacteristically.
Once the judges took a single bite off the dish, their reaction was a stark contrast compared to what they gave Mimasaka.
"This taste is overflowing!" Senzaemon exclaimed as his robe was instantly stripped by the perfect harmony of the dish.
"The tenderloins were crusted with a combination of Scandinavian-inspired spices that includes juniper berries, allspice, fennel, and black pepper while the light and creamy sauce were made with Gjetost (Norwegian caramelized goat cheese), chicken broth, sour cream, and a splash of aquavit." Leonora followed up with her own 'stripping' as she raps Eminem to shame.
"Mmm~~~That's why the sauce has such a smooth texture since Gjetost is a delicious Norwegian cheese with a sweet, caramel flavor." Hinako said as she was entranced by the sauce.
"To think you would use Juniper berry on the tenderloin itself. Their tart, almost citrusy flavors lend a nice contrast to rich, boldly flavored meats like Elk." Sonoka praised as this was much delicious than any steak she had before.
"You even add in Aquavit to the sauce to give meaning to the 'water of life.' Aquavit is also quite like vodka in the sense that it is a clear and distilled spirit." Taki exclaimed in shock as Alice was able to grasp the details so precisely.
"You're kidding me…" Mimasaka exclaimed in despair as he failed to trace Alice's dish even for a second. He only managed to get the main ingredient right.
"Now then~~~it's time for your retribution~~~" Alice said as the scene suddenly changes as Mimasaka was lock up in chains while being bound to the ground.
"?!"
"This is not a bad look for someone who works in the underworld." A voice suddenly resounded from the sky above as Mimasaka saw Alice slowly descending to the mortal world.
"…Vanadis…" That was the only phrase Mimasaka managed to mutter out before the scenery changes back to normal.
"Haa…haa…" Once Mimasaka snaps out of the scene, he was breathing heavily as he saw the eyes of the Scandinavian Goodness looking directly at him.
"Next time, I'll make sure to slice your head off if you dare pry into my business again." Alice threatened as she swung her headband like a sword.
Feeling intensely intimidated, Mimasaka just stood still in silence as the judges' declared Alice the winner of the Shokugeki with a Perfect 5-0 scoreline.
As Mimasaka slowly walks off the stage and heads to the exit, everyone in the arena could only wonder what he could have achieved if his father was not such a di*k.
"The boy has quite the talent. It would be a shame if he quits Totsuki." Senzaemon said with pity.
"I don't think you have to worry about that Ojii-sama~~" Alice said with conviction.
"Hmm~~~? Why is that Alice?" Leonora asked her daughter
"This is the first dish he failed to trace right~~~?" Alice said teasingly.
"Yeah, that's right." (Hinako)
"Doesn't this also mean that this dish was the first-ever dish he made originally from scratch~~~" Alice revealed to the surprise of everyone.
"Now that you mention it, why did he go with Mexican cuisine?" Sonoka asked as she was genuinely interested.
"Beats me~~~Maybe it's because his family runs a Mexican dessert restaurant or the first-ever cakes he made were Tres Leche (Milk cake)." Alice replied from the information she has gotten on Mimasaka.
"Hmph, he better not quit after this. Tell him that I'll properly educate him until he remembers what is needed to become a proper chef." Taki said while brooding an evil expression.
"Taki-chan is still as violent as I remember huh~~" Hinako teased which earns her another wrestling match will Taki.
As Alice was preparing to walk off stage, her mother told her with a smile: "Alice, I'll be waiting for your dish in the semi-final~~ Say hello to Soma and Erina for me as well~~"
"Hai~~~" Alice replied before giving her mother a hug and headed off to find her two dearests.
It didn't take her too long to find them as she saw Erina and Soma chatting with Megumi and Kurokiba in the hallway backstage. Immediately, she pounced towards the two like a little kitten who wanted affection. "Soma~~~~Erina~~~"
"Woah! Got you!" Soma said as he caught one-half of Alice.
"Mou…Why are you so clingy, there are still cameras running in the hallway you know." Erina told Alice but she just snuggles up closer to them.
"Haa…Good work Alice. That was a great dish you made." Erina gave up and just praised her.
"Yeah, that was some dish. But still, not enough to beat me~~" Soma tried to tease Alice but it immediately backfired on him.
"Mou~~~Are you saying that Megumi's idea was a bad one~~~? I got this idea from her dish in the preliminaries after all~~~" Alice replied by bringing Megumi into the mix.
Soma instinctively knew that he was in danger as he felt a hand tap him on the shoulder. Turning his head mechanically like a robot, he saw Kurokiba looking at him.
"Now now Kurokiba, you don't want to break character by acting aggressively without wearing your bandanna, right?" Soma said in a hurry.
Taking the opportunity that Kurokiba used to place his bandanna, Soma immediately dashed out of the hall but not before giving some parting words. "Tadokoro, Good luck in the match. Tell Kurokiba as well once you calmed him down~~~"
As the hallway was filled with soft giggles from the girls and a more than satisfied grin from Kurokiba, an announcement was made for the participants of the next match to get ready.
"Megumi-chan…Ryo-Kun…Faito (Fight)~~~" (Alice)
"Do your best Megumi-san, Kurokiba-Kun. Show them what you both are made of." (Erina)
"Hai!" (Megumi)
"Osu" (Kurokiba)
As Megumi and Kurokiba bided the two farewells, Soma came out of his hiding spot to rejoin back with his lovers.
"Who do you think is going to win?" Soma asked them the money question.
"Just to be different with Erina, I'm saying Ryo-kun~~" Alice answered first
"Why do you think I was going with her…" Erina complained but she was met with two deadpanned faces.
"Cough…This is a cooking competition so I'll obviously go with the one chosen." Erina desperately tried to explain herself but her two lovers were having none of it.
"Sis-con" Soma and Alice said at the same time which cause Erina to tilt her embarrassed face sideways. "Huff"
"Hehe~~If I recall correctly, Ryo-Kun and Megumi-chan tied in their match at the Dorm right~~?" Alice said as the trio now start moving towards Erina's VIP room.
"There's no way they will tie again. The tournament is judge based on votes now so Ojii-sama will have to make a decision if that happens." Erina said as she dismisses any chance of a draw happening.
"I'm curious though, why did you say that Mimasaka was just getting started, Alice?" Soma asked genuinely curious.
"Things have just started to come together for him after all, if I would guess from my trace, he would be now resigning as Eizan's lackey." Alice said as she placed a detective lens in front of her eyes.
"Hmph, it takes more than determination to change, it requires a long of willpower as well. But, if his kanji serves him right then this is just beginning for him." Erina said as she took a sip of tea prepared by Hisako earlier.
"?"
"Hehe~~~ Mimasaka uses the kanji for "beautiful" and "production" which can also means come together." Alice explained to the confused Soma.
"So, that's why. Well, I just want to face off against him once more to see how much more he can reveal about myself." Soma said as he thinks that the best way to improve is to overcome yourself.
"Hehe, before that, I'll take care of one of the parasites in the Elite 10." Erina said as she saw Eizan glaring at them angrily from one of the exits.
"Don't beat him up too much Erina. It won't be fun for me afterward." Soma said as he leans on the glass window to gaze directly at Eizan.
"You're leaving a worn-out punching bag for me? You guys are too cruel~~~" Alice said as she did not even bother to look at Eizan.
As the glaring match continues between Soma and Eizan, Urara suddenly announced that the second match was about to begin. Deciding to leave this for another time, Eizan turns back towards the exit with a wicked smile on his face. 'Nakiri Erina, Yukihira Soma, Nakiri Alice, I'll show you the power of the underworld.'
"Hai hai~~~it is finally time to kick start the second match and first appearing on stage is the girl pinned as a dark horse by Orie Sendawara-sama and Hinako Inui-senpai. Give a round of applause to the breakout girl: Tadokoro Megumi!" Urara announced excitingly.
Megumi stepped out to a huge round of applause and cheers. Most importantly from her friends in the Polar Star Dorm. "Megumi! Do your best!"
Megumi smiled at them before facing forward to her opponent now appearing from the left gate.
"And her opponent, the mad dog who appears to have a soft spot for the bunny she's facing today: Kurokiba Ryo!" Urara introduces with equal excitement.
Kurokiba walked out to cheers mostly from his fan club in which he was dismayed to find out and an equal amount of support from the Polar Star Dorm. "Kurokiba! Break a leg but not literally!"
As the two squared up in the middle of the stage, they gave a bow to each other before Kurokiba said: "I have no intention of holding back, as you know, this is a battlefield after all"
"I would be sad if Kurokiba-Kun held back against me, a battlefield is for two people after all" Megumi replied which earn a grin from Kurokiba.
"Good luck!" Both said to each other before heading towards their own station.
"Haa~~~Megumi-chan looks as cute and adorable as ever~~~" Hinako says as she takes in Megumi's stature.
"So, this is the girl you were talking about Hinako-senpai, you said she was quite like me but I don't think that's appropriate." Sonoka said to Hinako.
"Yeah, she looks way more confident than you after all." Taki said which earn a cute pout from Sonoka.
"Tadokoro Megumi, the one who inspires that dish from Alice. And Kurokiba-Kun, the one who sharpens Alice's skill in Denmark. In addition, to them seemingly have feelings for each other, this is a cruel match-up." Leonora said to Senzaemon.
"Let's see where their sails take us, they both seem like they have something they want to accomplish in this match." Senzaemon said with his age-old experience.
'Megumi-chan, what is making you that determined?' Hinako thought as she saw the fire in Megumi's eyes.
"Haa…Yuki-chan and Ryoko-chan are too cruel…" Megumi complained as she finally slipped away from the interrogation.
Taking out a milk carton from the refrigerator, Megumi pours it into her glass while thinking to herself about the conversation she had with them.
"Kurokiba-Kun…" Megumi unconsciously voiced out the name in her mind.
'There are still many things I don't know about him…Why does he have a sense of longing when he cooks…What was he trying to tell me before…' Megumi thought to herself as she took out the piece of paper Kurokiba gave her before.
"You're still carrying that piece of paper with you?" A voice suddenly interrupted Megumi's thought.
"En, it's special to me." Megumi unconsciously replied.
"It's just a piece of paper…" The voice said lazily.
"No, it isn't!" Megumi replied loudly as she turned to face the voice but she immediately regretted it when saw who it was.
"Kurokiba-Kun…"
"It's just words, they are meaningless if the one reading can't decipher it." Kurokiba said as he took the paper from Megumi.
"But, it was those words that save me from my slump and reminded me of my way of cooking. I know it's a little too late to say it but…Arigato Kurokiba-Kun." Megumi thanked Kurokiba with a heartfelt smile.
"…Yeah…" Kurokiba replied after a while as he was captivated by the smile.
"Hehe~~it's the first time I have ever seen Kurokiba-Kun embarrassed. It's quite cute." Megumi said with the same smile.
"…Shut it…" Kurokiba said as he returned the paper to Megumi which earned another giggle from Megumi.
"I thought Kurokiba-Kun was playing cards with Soma-Kun and Takumi-Kun but why are you suddenly here in the kitchen?" Megumi asked.
"I wanted to talk to you" Kurokiba replied straightforwardly.
"Eeh?!" Megumi blushed immediately as she was caught off guard by the answer.
"Tomorrow...accompany me somewhere..." (Kurokiba)
"Hai?!"
"9 am, meet at the front gate. See you." Kurokiba simply said before leaving while leaving a dumbfounded Megumi alone in the kitchen.
It took more than a few seconds for Megumi to comprehend what just happen as she was now a blushing mess. 'Is it a date?! Is that how people ask for a date?! Did I even reply?! Mou! Kurokiba-Kun!'
As Megumi was desperately trying to keep herself together, Kurokiba was staring into the distance with a solemn expression on his face.
Normally, it takes a girl at least 3 hours to get ready for a date. But, Megumi who has next to next experience in love whatsoever, decided to dress like she normally does. Despite the insistence from Ryoko and Yuki to wear makeup and dress better, she decided against it as her sixth sense told her that this was not just an ordinary date.
It was just after calming herself down, she, who is most versed in noticing the smallest details from others notice that Kurokiba hesitated before asking her out. Normally, she would disregard it as nervousness but the way he left without waiting for her answer makes it seems like a take it or leave it offer to know more about him.
Deciding to trust her intuition, she went with a white dress that is suitable for any occasion and headed to the meeting place. It was there that she felt grateful to her own intuition as she saw Kurokiba dress in full black waiting beside a limo.
As she walked closer to Kurokiba, she saw the small smile on his face. It was as if he was relieved that she took his offer. Deciding to ask him about it later, Megumi quicken up her pace to Kurokiba's side.
"Good Morning Kurokiba-Kun, you are dressed quite neatly." Megumi complemented as soon as she was beside Kurokiba.
"You really have a great sense of things, I'm thankful for that." Kurokiba replied as he opens the door inviting Megumi to hop in the limo first.
Surprised that Kurokiba-Kun got in after her, she decided to ask him but another voice answers her question for him.
"Kurokiba-sama, could we depart now?" The driver asked through the speaker.
"Drive with a slower pace than usual. I don't mind the time." Kurokiba replied as he looked at the one seated next to him.
"As you wish Kurokiba-sama." The driver complies with the order and took off from the Polar Star Dorm.
"Kurokiba-Kun?"
"It's the first time you're riding a limo, it would be best if you can relax on the way." Kurokiba replied while looking at Megumi.
"Hehe…thank you." Megumi blushed in reply as she felt her heart tighten because Kurokiba remembered that she gets anxious when riding something expensive.
"…Is this what you want…? Kurokiba asked vaguely but Megumi immediately knew what it was about.
"Hai! I want to know more about Kurokiba-Kun!" Megumi replied as she gazes directly at Kurokiba's red eyes.
"…It won't be interesting…" Kurokiba said as he tries to dissuade Megumi but he stopped when he felt a hand on his.
"I'm the one that decides that, please tell me what Kurokiba-Kun is longing for." Megumi replied which cause a tickle in Kurokiba's heart.
Looking up at the ceiling of the limo, Kurokiba began to talk about his upbringing in a small port town in Denmark and how he was struggling to survive.
"The place I was born in was a rough environment filled with Ruffians and Hooligans. The only way to live there is to show your own worth. A place where the strong dominates the weak."
Kurokiba paused for a moment before continuing as he felt Megumi's hand tighten around him. "As someone who is less than 10 years of age, I have to work twice as hard as others just to survive. The only talent I have with me was my ability to cook and the only thing on my mind was survival. That was my mindset when I stepped into my battlefield.
"It did not take long for me to earn myself a spot as head chef at a local pub, things were on the upside until Jealousy came along. The only place I could call home was inside a small alleyway but that place was quickly taken away by the other chefs. The only help I could turn to was the owner of the pub but that was quickly shut down as he left the pub in their hands."
"It was probably then when I finally knew that a battlefield has no such things as compatriots or allies, it was every man for themselves. To claim back what is mine, I can only keep tenaciously fighting forward despite the hardships. After weeks of challenges, I finally made them submit to me. However, there was no joy in accomplishing that because I knew they would immediately come for my neck if I showed any signs of weakness. Thus, the only thing I can do was to keep dominating them and make them submit through my cooking."
Kurokiba paused to check up on Megumi and to his surprise, she was smiling and not crying as he expected.
"Kurokiba-Kun, you did good struggling to get this far." Megumi said as she lightly patted him on the head. It was the exact same words and action Kurokiba did to her on the plane.
For once in his life, Kurokiba felt the urge to show his weakness and lean on someone else shoulder but he still has his pride to keep. So, he only enjoyed the pleasant sensation of getting praised by another.
Continuing his story after the round of petting, Kurokiba told her about her meeting with Alice and how he was dragged along to her whims as he had no choice after losing to her. Megumi could only giggle in reply as Kurokiba keep complaining to her about the things Alice put him through. But, without saying anything, Megumi knew that Kurokiba is grateful to Alice for what she did. Megumi promised herself to thank Alice for providing Kurokiba a place he could call home and someone he could call a friend.
As the limo finally came to a standstill, there was still one topic that Kurokiba never mentioned about and it was about his parents. Megumi instantly knew the answer as the limo stopped just outside a famous flower shop in Japan. Before Kurokiba got off the limo, Megumi grasped onto his hand and offer to go together.
Smiling again at her godly intuition, Kurokiba held onto her hand and lead her into the flower shop: Nicolai Bergmann. It was simple why Kurokiba chose this store because the flower arrangements are designed by Danish flower artist Nikolai Bergman and the flowers are characterized by sophisticated Scandinavian coolness and innovative pop colors. However, there was another reason this time around.
As Megumi walk through the outside café, she could help but feel entranced by the snacks, cakes, coffee, and smoothies with focuses on organic ingredients. Feeling a force dragging her forward, she was led to a place in the corner for two with a view of the outside landscape.
"Kurokiba-Kun?"
"Breakfast…"
"EN!"
It was just a short exchange of words but both just know what the other is trying to say. As they enjoyed the fresh fruit smoothies and the delicious banana cake, both could not help but think that the food here tastes sweet yet enjoyable.
Once Kurokiba paid the bill despite Megumi's protest, he leads her to the other side of the shop where they were immediately surrounded by a gorgeous display of flowers. There, he was immediately warmly by Nicolai himself.
"Kurokiba! It's a surprise for you to drop by yourself." Nicolai greeted him friendly.
"I have time…" Kurokiba replied lazily
"It's a pleasure to meet you, Nicolai-san." Megumi greeted with a slight bow.
"Hoh? Who is this gorgeous lady beside you Kurokiba?" Nicolai asked with a smirk.
"Tadokoro Megumi." Kurokiba replied with more emotion in his voice.
"A lovely name for a beautiful girl such as yourself. My name is Nicolai Bergmann and I'm the owner of this shop. It's good to see Kurokiba hanging out with someone." Nicolai said as he smiles at the two.
"Annoying…I'm here for the flowers…" Kurokiba said impatiently.
"Haha, I already have them wrapped up so we have some time to catch up you know?" Nicolai offered but Kurokiba immediately declines as he receives the flowers and hands him a card.
"You really need to lighten up or you won't ever find a girlfriend." Nicolai joked as he hands him his card back.
"See you…" Kurokiba said as he heads for the exit.
Megumi looked apologetic as she gave a look to Nicolai but he just laughs it off and said: "Don't worry about it, this is just how he acts when he's embarrassed. We usually have a chat on the phone once per month to catch up so it's no biggie."
"Girl, please take care of the boy. You must be someone really special to him if he's bringing you here. Make sure to always be there for him." Nicolai asked of Megumi
"Yes!" Megumi replied immediately before giving him a bow and chased after Kurokiba who was waiting at the door.
'Good for you, Kurokiba. You finally found someone. She's definitely a keeper.' Nicolai thought to himself as he saw Kurokiba grabbed hold of Megumi's hand and lead her out of the store.
Once there were back inside the limo, Megumi looked at Kurokiba hesitantly but he immediately dismissed her worry.
"There's no need to feel sorry…In fact, I am thankful that you came with me." Kurokiba said as he gazed at Megumi's yellow eyes.
"No, I came because I wanted to. I'm just a selfish girl who wants to know more about Kurokiba-Kun."
"Heh, you're really quite selfish."
"Uuu…you should have denied that part…"
With the two emitting a warm atmosphere inside the limo, they did not even notice that the limo had stopped until the driver told them.
"Kurokiba-sama, we have arrived. Have a safe walk."
"…Let's go"
"En"
As they continue to walk down the path, Megumi was surprised to see that there was no one around them. Sensing her confusion, Kurokiba told her that this place is only limited to the Nakiris.
Nodding her head, Megumi held onto the wrapped bouquet of lilies tightly with a heavy heart.
After a 5-minute walk, they finally reach the headstone of the Kurokiba's. It was easily recognizable as there were two similar red bandannas hanging on them.
Deeply bowing in respect, Megumi placed the flowers in the given pot but she soon realized they were no names written on them on the headstones. Silently shedding tears, she now finally understands what Kurokiba has been longing for.
'Kurokiba-Kun, please let this dish convey the feelings I failed to tell you that day.' Megumi places her hands together in a pray before getting started on her dish.
Unlike Megumi, Kurokiba immediately got started on his dish but his movements were less dynamic than usual even with the bandanna on. However, that all change when Kurokiba brought out his seafood of choice.
"Salmon?!" (The crowd)
But, the surprise did not end there as Megumi brought out her main ingredient which was Salmon as well!
"They both chose Salmon?! This is the same as the previous match!" (The crowd)
"They are not the same!" Senzaemon suddenly said to the surprise of the crowd.
"Tch, this generation of students suck. They can't even tell the difference between two Salmons." Taki said as she looked agitated by the lack of knowledge from the crowd.
"It can't be helped Taki-senpai, many of these students have yet to be polished after all." Sonoka said surprisingly coldly.
"My~~~It's refreshing to see both of you agreeing for once. But, it is vexing as a Japanese Cuisine Expert that the students are ignorant of such knowledge." Hinako said disappointedly.
"Hmm~~~I would have thought it would be the other way around but this is indeed interesting." Leonora said as she looked at the documents about Megumi.
As the crowd was still clueless about what the differences were, a certain group was busy exchanging their own thoughts about the choice of ingredients.
"I know they like each other, but to go this far…Unbelievable." Ikumi said as she can't believe her eyes.
"Yes, I can understand Megumi but for Kurokiba-Kun to do it as well. This is beautiful." Ryoko said happily.
"Fufu, it's a wonderful spectacle, isn't it? Tadokoro-chan taking an explosive approach while Kurokiba-Kun taking a more peaceful approach." Isshiki said with a smile on his face.
"Hokkaido Salmon and Tohoku Salmon. That's not all, they're even using rice in their dishes as well." Hisako said as she pointed at the two who were busy preparing their rice.
"But, Megumi has prepared two bowls of rice in contrast to the one of Kurokiba-Kun."
Yuki said after noticing the difference.
"Hehehe…Kurokiba is making up for it with twice the amount of Salmon than her." Sadatsuka pointed out.
Just as they were trying to figure out what the two were making, Megumi suddenly brought out pieces of bread dough while Kurokiba brought out some orange drops.
"That's…Caviar?!" Yuki asked.
"No, that is Salmon roe. Technically, all fish eggs are "roe", but not all "roe" is caviar. Caviar only applies to the fish roe in the sturgeon family which are large, freshwater fishes. Salmon roes are their replacement which brought out the term "Caviar Substitute"." Hisako explained to the group.
"Kurokiba-Kun is going for a torrent of attacks. Fufu, what will Tadokoro-chan do?" Isshiki said as the group stay silent and watch the battlefield unfold.
As if Megumi heard what Isshiki was asking, she slowly closed her eyes and reopen them while smiling. 'The only way is to face him head-on.'
With that thought in mind, Megumi quickens her pace and place the finishing touches on her dish. Not one to be undone, Kurokiba
also unleashed his repertoire of skills to the fullest.
"It's done!" Both said at the same time which brought the crowd to total silence. Everyone held onto their breath as it was finally time for judgment.
As they were walking up to the stage, the crowd could not help but notice that there was an additional serving. Once Megumi and Kurokiba reach the judges' table, they were welcomed by a bright smirk from Senzaemon.
"Some say that the best way to judge a battle of flavor is by tasting them in quick succession. Very well! Show us your dishes!" Senzaemon said as Megumi and Kurokiba lift the lid covering their dishes.
"This is?!" The crowd exclaimed in shock while the judges were severely impressed.
"My dish is Salmon Coulibiac. Please Enjoy."
"MY DISH IS HARAKOMESHI (Salmon rice with Salmon Roe) ! EAT IT BEFORE IT GETS COLD!"
"Coulibiac?! The dish where you wrap salmon and rice in a brioche bread dough? Megumi-chan made it?!" Hinako exclaimed in surprise.
"My~~~I never thought I would see the day where Kurokiba-Kun would go with a family-oriented dish." Leonora said with equal surprise as well.
"A dynamic dish made by a reserved student and a reserved dish made by a dynamic student…" Sonoka could help but feel amazed by the contrast.
"Hmph… They are both trying to make something outside of their expertise. Too many changes will cause..." Taki could not finish her sentence as once she took a bite of Kurokiba's dish, she was captured.
"MMM?! The umami tastes so freaking good it's knocking out my consciousness!" Taki cried out loud.
"MMM~~Such a violent flavour~~The fact you chose the less fatty nature of Tohoku salmon explains why the salmon boasts such beautiful amber hues with umami trapped inside it~~~" Hinako explained while she was struggling to keep herself from moaning.
"The perfect harmony of rice, salmon and salmon roe~~Such a masterful control of ingredients~~Tohoku salmon is saltier in nature which brings out an additional layer of flavor~~" Sonoka said as she kept digging into the bowl.
"Harakomeshi, a treat only available in autumn. A famous Tohoku specialty that has long been offered to shoguns as an autumn delicacy. Originating in the town of Watari, Harakomeshi has plentiful cuts of fatty salmon and sparkling salmon roe (harako, also known as ikura) on top of rice cooked with salmon broth." Leonora explained more in detail as she started her 'stripping' again.
"To think a family-oriented dish can be magnified to such an extent. A flavor so good it's even violent." Senzaemon says as he looked directly at Kurokiba.
"CUT THE CHATTER JII -JII(Gramps). IT'S TIME FOR A KNOCKOUT!"
"Very well! Let's see if you can force me to submission!"
'Drop'
"The headmaster robe has been stripped! Kurokiba's dish has force its way through the headmaster's defense!" The crowd exclaimed loudly.
While the crowd was jubilant over the impact of Kurokiba's dish, they did not forget to downplay whatever chances Megumi has left. However, they were immediately left tongue-tied by the judges' reaction.
"MMM?! The savouriness of the salmon, the essence! The taste is shaking my head to its core!" Taki cried out as she was overwhelmed by the explosion of flavor.
"Haa~~~I can feel all the fat oozing in my mouth~~~Your choice of Hokkaido Salmon is spot-on as the stance between the mouth of the river and the gravel bed where the salmon spawn is so long in Hokkaido that the fish caught near the ocean retain a lot of fat" Leonora explained as she started to rap again.
"The spinach crepe is such a nice touch to condense all the flavors inside the wrapped salmon. Your knowledge of vegetables gave this dish another layer of flavor Megumi-chan~~" Hinako praised wholeheartedly.
"That's not all Hinako-senpai, she also kneaded seasoning spice onto the crepe. I can taste thyme, oregano, garlic, and lastly bacon!" Sonoka exclaimed loudly.
"This surging wave of attacks! There's no mistake! This dish took the same approach as Kurokiba! A raging torrent engulfing you whole!" Senzaemon said to the shock of everyone in the arena.
As everyone took in the statement made by the judges, they could not help but feel awe at Megumi. She decided to confront Kurokiba head-on in a match of explosive flavor.
"It looks like it was not enough…I'm sorry Kurokiba-kun…" Megumi suddenly started to apologize to the confusion of everyone.
Suddenly, someone in the crowd pointed out that Senzaemon was still in his robe which means that Megumi's dish has failed to impress him.
As tears fell from Megumi's eyes, everyone thought Kurokiba would console her but Kurokiba just walks straight past her. Just as Urara was about to ask the judges about the result, they saw Kurokiba took a bite of the extra serving on Megumi's tray.
Time seemed to stand still until Kurokiba suddenly screamed out loud. "YOU IDIOTS! TASTE THE FLIPPING DISH AGAIN! I ORDER YOU!"
"?!"
As someone who was acquainted with Kurokiba, he was not the least insulted by his words. In fact, he could not help but feel excitement at the possibility of him missing something in the dish. With that thought in mind, Senzaemon took another bite of Megumi's dish, and his robe instantly disheveled.
"?!"
"Hahaha! Tadokoro Megumi, I humbly apologize for my mistake!" Senzaemon stood up before bowing at Megumi.
"EEH?!"
"The way you executed the dish…The way you unevenly mixed the spices to allow some parts to miss out on the Salmon flavor." Kurokiba said to Megumi
But! In exchange for that, there are parts where the flavor is deepened through the interaction of the salmon umami and the bacon. This is the thing you missed Old MAN!" Kurokiba said directly at Senzaemon.
"Indeed! If one took another bite of the dish, they could feel the flavors circling their mouths in a multitude of layers! And when you eat the part where it is concentrated, the salmon's natural flavor burst forth a new world of flavor!" Senzaemon praised wholeheartedly.
"Eeh…It won't stop…What is happening…" Megumi said softly as she tried to wipe off the tears but to no avail.
"Tadokoro Megumi, Taste my dish!" Kurokiba said to Megumi as he handed her the dish but, it was nicely wrapped in a bento.
"?! Kurokiba-kun?! This is?!" Megumi was extremely surprised by this.
"Hoh~~~Nice going Ryo-kun~~~We in Japan have the culture of when someone gives you a bento, it means an expression of love~~~" Alice said as she jumped out of her seat.
"At least it's romantic…If the one you're asking accepts your bento, it means they reciprocate your feelings…Hmph, I'll let this one slide." Erina explained while her sis-con instincts kick in.
"Hmm? Doesn't that mean that we were a couple even before we met again? I remember making bento for you guys every day when we were kids." Soma suddenly pointed out but he was immediately shushed by his girlfriends.
"Don't ruin their moment Baka Soma!" Both girls scolded him while Soma just raised both of his hands in defeat.
"YOUR DISH…I FELT IT…NOW, I WANT YOU TO FEEL MINE" Kurokiba said which 'Kya' reactions from his fan club in the crowd.
Smiling like a blossoming flower, she receives the bento from Kurokiba and took one bite of the rice. Then, she was immediately transported to a place she was familiar with. It was the dork located in her hometown.
Even though it was deep in the night, Megumi could clearly see a man sitting at the dork enjoying the slight breeze from the wind and the smell from the sea. But, she could make out that the man had this lonely yet longing expression on his face as he stares over the horizon.
Taking a giant step forward, Megumi was now close enough to listen to the soft words muttered out by the man: "What it's like to have a family?"
"If you don't mind me, I will be your family." Megumi shouted passionately from behind the man. Even though it was supposed to be impossible, Megumi's heartfelt wish managed to reach the man as he slowly turns behind him. It was one scene that Megumi swore she would never forget as she saw the expression on his face. A smile from the bottom of his heart.
It was then the scene change and she was now looking at the same smile from the man in front of him. Unable to hold on to her emotions anymore, she dove right into his embrace as cheers ring out from the crowd. Most notably, the chants from her friends at the Polar Star Dorm.
"We're still in a competition you know…" Taki complained but her voice was immediately replaced by an excited Hinako and Sonoka.
"It's a wonderful place your created Otou-sama" Leonora said to Senzaemon in which he laughed in reply.
"Hahaha! Totsuki is a place where chefs hone their skills against one another but it's also a place where bonds are created. This is the definition of Totsuki!" Senzaemon proclaimed loudly to the students.
Once the initial feelings finally subsided, Megumi who was still in Kurokiba's embrace blushed brightly as she never thought she would lose control like that. Sneaking a glance at Kurokiba, she could see that his focus was only on her as he has no concern over anything else. As their pupils lock on to each other, their face also inches closer and closer until a certain judge managed to snap them out of their trance by commencing the judgment.
Irritated by the cockblock, Megumi and Kurokiba glared at Taki which cause her to shudder in fear. Laughing at her senpai's expense, Sonoka awarded her points to Kurokiba as she liked the perfect harmony of Kurokiba's dish better.
The next judge who cast her vote was Hinako and she obviously voted for Megumi. There was definitely no bias in that vote at all~~
Following up, Leonora cast her vote for Kurokiba as he triggers more words from her. Then, it was down to the last two. Taki smirked evilly to herself as she cast her vote which was for Megumi. It was definitely not because she wanted to make it interesting (True reason), but it was because Megumi's dish left a bigger impact as it went straight through her skull.
Now, all eyes fell on Nakiri Senzaemon's decision. Would he choose a dish that penetrated his defense with one blow or a dish that does some feint before nailing him in the gut? Everyone was nervous about this decisive vote but not as nervous as Megumi as she tightens her hold on Kurokiba's hand while burying her face in his shoulder.
However, there was one person in the building who was calm as he softly whispered to Megumi. "Congratulations."
"Eh?" A surprised sound was emitted from Megumi's mouth before she decided to look up and saw her name written by Senzaemon. But, that was not the only surprise as she also saw Kurokiba's name beside hers as well.
"EHHH?!"
While the crowd was utterly confused by the turn of events, a certain redhead and a certain white fox were currently laughing their asses off at a certain blushing yellow princess.
Phew~~I think that's a good place to end it right? Again, sorry I was late with the update but I decided that releasing on my birthday was the best~~So~~ Forgive me
PS: The next chapter will be at the start of October (2nd or 3rd) because I will be having exams in the middle of septemeber and I will be directed my focus there. I need to graduate after all~
