SUP GUYS~~! Did you miss me? I obviously miss writing fanfics and seeing what you guys think of my latest chapters~~Too bad covid is striking my country again wohoo Government. Imagine reaching an all time high after 2 years of this thing...2 freaking years... Haa...The past month has been hectic and the upcoming months will be even more...Covid, Final Year in University...Final year Project... It doesn't pair well does it...
Anyways...To summarize...The good news is that I'm 2 months away from graduating...The bad news is that I will have little time to write...Especially considering where the story stopped at...I don't want to half-ass it since many of you like the depth I write in the story...So...No promises ya...The next chapter will hopefully be around May so apologies to that...

"Hey hey~~why are we suddenly here? I thought we were in the middle of the Autumn Elections~~" A voice asked curiously.
"Weren't you listening Alice? The author told us that he was adding in some specials in between the chapters." Another voice calmly explained as she leaned up from her window seat to look at her.
"Eh~~~? But we were at the best part...The climax of the Autumn Elections...Hmph! I hope this author prays to himself to not have severe cases of blue balls for his upcoming dates." Alice threatened and caused the one in between them to chuckle.
"Heh, you do know that threatening him could potentially reduce your amount of screen time."
"Muu~~ I'm doing it for the readers! Also, if he dares to reduce my screen time, they will be a few words spoken between him and my legion of fans~~" Alice replied with an angelic smile.
"Heh, sometimes, you do fit the role of a villain more than the other characters. But..." Soma suddenly stopped and take hold of Alice's cold and exposed hands and place them inside the mittens he prepared.
"Even a villain needs someone to pamper them." Soma finished as he kissed the back of her hand before directing his gaze to the other person beside him.
"Hmph, glad you are still aware of your surroundings." Erina pouted as she wanted some attention as well.
Abiding his lover's wish, Soma slowly leans towards her while loosening the tight scarf around him. Then, he wrapped the scarf around her, covering them both, and brought her closer to him.
"Better?"
"Mmm, I guess this would suffice for now." Erina said as she relaxed her head on Soma's shoulder, enjoying the pleasant warmth coming from both the scarf and her lover.
"Heh, It's a good thing that we are on a private plane. Even I would feel uncomfortable with the attention we will inevitably generate" Soma said as he breathed a sigh of relief.
"Oh~~? I thought you liked being at the center of attention?" Erina teased.
"Not on a plane that lasts for 2 and a half days...I know the importance of time and place you know." Soma huffed childishly.
"Hehe~~Time and place are important~~~But, the occasion is also very important~~Now that we don't need to face the hassle of connecting flights, we can enjoy the days leading up to Christmas as well~~" Alice cheerfully said as the two can't help but smile at her contagiousness.
"Yeah, time to make up for the Christmases we weren't able to celebrate together" (Soma)
"Indeed. Spending it side by side is way better than sending each other postcards and calling each other on the phone." (Erina)
Right as the trio finish their chatter, an announcement came from the pilot, informing them that they were now near the vicinity of Akureyri airport.
Shifting themselves towards Erina's window seat, the trio looked out and saw a glamorous sea of lights welcoming their arrival. If this was what North Iceland has to offer, they have no doubt in their mind that this trip will be for the ages.
"Really? We left her alone for five seconds, and she managed to find something to eat..." Erina said exasperatedly as they came out of the security check just to see Alice waiting for them with three hot dogs in hand.
"Mmm~~Erina, Soma, you have to try this~~This taste so much different than ours~~" Alice said with a satisfied expression.
"Heh~~This is quite something. The meat is a combination of pork, beef, and lamb. The sausage just snaps when you bite into it." (Soma)
"Hmm~~I would say that the onions stood out more. The contrast between the raw white onions and crispy fried onions is quite something." (Erina)
"Mou~~you two should focus more on the sauce. Even though it's the standard mustard and ketchup, there's just something there that screams Icelandic~~ (Alice)
"Hahaha, I'm glad to hear that. You three have some incredible taste buds to be able to tell the difference right away." A man said as he walked closer to the trio.
"Greetings, My name is Jón, and I will be your tour guide during your trip here."
"Yo, the name's Soma."
"Erina."
"Alice~~"
"It's nice to meet you three. It's even nicer to see you three appreciating what our nation has to offer even before stepping out of the airport." Jón said with a smile.
"Well, we never really had the chance to explore the places we visited before. So, it's no wonder one of us was unable to hold herself back any longer" Erina teased as Alice pouted.
"Oh? Are you three by any chance famous?" Jón asked curiously.
"Heh, you could say we are quite well-known." Soma replied vaguely.
"I see, being famous does have its dis-merits. But, in this case, it works out in your favor." Jón said as the trio tilt their head in confusion.
"Only when you are used to the hustle and bustle; you be able to fully appreciate the tranquil and solitude atmosphere North Iceland has to offer."
"Oh~~~" (Trio)
"Once again, let me welcome you to North Iceland."
"We will be in your care~~"
With that, Jón lead the trio towards his land rover and prepared to head towards Mývatn. Taking a look at his watch, he sadly said: "Hmm…it's already quite late."
"Is something the matter? (Erina)
"No, it's nothing that would affect our hour trip. It's just...there's a place I would like to bring you to. But, I'm afraid we have just passed their serving hours." Jón said dejectedly.
"Serving hours...Heh, is the place we're going a restaurant by any chance?" Soma asked with a smirk.
"Uh, yes."
"Hehe~~then there's no problem~~" (Alice)
"Huh?"
"There's nothing to worry about. I'm sure the restaurant would no doubt be willing to serve some humble visitors." (Erina)
Unsure of what to say, Jón silently obliges as he set off towards said place. Throwing a glance do the bubbling trio seating behind, he could only hope they would not feel dejected after arriving there.
The journey to the restaurant did not take long as it was just a measly 6km away from the airport. Once they got out of the vehicle, Jón's expectation was proven true as they were greeted by an apologetic staff.
"My apologies, dear guest. We have just past our operating hours, and I'm afraid we could only ask you to return tomorrow"
"Guess there's no other choice, let's return here on your last day..." Jón suddenly stopped himself as he saw Alice taking out a card and presenting it to the staff.
After taking a look, the staff immediately backtrack and did a complete 180 as he warmly welcome them into the restaurant.
"Hehe~~~there's no need for pleasantries~~It's our fault for suddenly barging in~~." Alice said as she walked inside.
"Indeed, we're are the ones at fault here. Also, we're here for vacation not inspection. There's no need for you to act so uptightly." Erina followed up behind Alice.
"Heh, I'm looking forward to trying this place. Anyways, you can thank Jón for recommending the restaurant to us." Soma said as he patted the staff on the shoulder and followed his lovers inside.
Abiding Soma's word, the staff shot Jón a grateful look before hurrying inside to lay the news to his colleagues and boss.
Bewildered by the sudden turn of events, Jón stood outside like a frozen snowman until the staff returned and royally escorted him into the restaurant.
Inside, the head chef and staff were conversing normally with the trio. It seems they took their words to heart. Just goes to show how professional they are.
Seeing the pleased expression of the trio faces, Jón decided to leave it be. Although he was indeed intrigued about their real identities, he knew better than to pry at others' secrets. Excusing himself, he headed for the sushi bar to allow the trio to fully experience this unique restaurant by themselves.
"This is remarkable. It has quite an impressive selection of fish species and a wide variety of sushi and meat courses." Erina said after looking at the menu.
"We try our best to please visitors from every continent." The head chef said with a smile.
"Heh, The menu is also straightforward. It's basically choosing your favorite fish or meat, and a rub to go with it. I like it." Soma complimented next.
"Hehe~~always like the simple stuff don't you Soma~~I personally think there's a lot of thought gone into this place~~The name of the restaurant Rub is an example in itself." Alice said which earned a wide grin from the head chef.
"Haha, since Rub has become a common term for mixed spices that are rubbed into the ingredients, I applied it straight to my restaurant's name since it's my specialty after all."
"Hmm…I always look forward to tasting a chef's specialty, so we'll have the ultimate food festival, please. I'm sure it will be delightful, chef Einar" Erina said as she returned the menu.
"A wise pick. Please look forward to it " Einar said as he and his team headed back to the kitchen to prepare the food.
"Hehe~~You really are evil Erina~~I'm sure you heard the slight uneasiness in his voice when you order this~~" Alice teased.
"Hmph, I would be a fool not to order the six-course meal that includes all the best that they can offer. Also, I'm sure he's more nervous about whether we like it than himself messing up." Erina replied unfazed.
"Heh, who would have thought that our first meal in North Iceland would be sushi and seafood" Soma said as he glossed over the menu again.
"Muu~~~I would have preferred some beef or lamb~~It's Iceland after all~~there have more sheep than people here~~" (Alice)
"Hehe, I'm sure you will get your portion of meat. Are you forgetting where we are staying?" (Erina)
"Oh~~~I totally forgot that we are staying in a farm resort~~~Hehe~~I'm definitely going on an eating spree~~~" (Alice)
"Heh, we will make sure to save the spot closest to the toilet for you. Won't we, Erina?" Soma teased.
"Yes. In fact, why don't we just move her bed to hug the bathroom door? She definitely needs it." Erina teased as she played along.
"Muu~! You guys are such meanies! I won't overeat to the extent of having a stomachache!" Alice pouted as Soma and Erina laughed at her expense.
"Heh, you best don't jinx yourself, Alice. You are a worthy flag-bearer after all."
"Hehe, how the tables have turned huh Alice~~"
Before Alice could respond, a staff brought their first course to the table. "Dear guest, your appetizers have arrived. Please enjoy."
"Hmph! You guys made me mad, I demand some compensation!" Alice huffed as she turned her head sideways.
Smiling at each other knowingly, Erina and Soma both picked up a piece of sushi roll and held it in front of Alice.
"Aah~"
"Hmph! Don't you dare think you both are forgiven…" Alice said as she reluctantly opened her mouth for Soma and Erina to feed her.
"Hai hai~~" Soma and Erina lightly chuckle as they continue to pamper Alice all throughout the meal.
"Mmm~~Soma~~Erina~~Feed me more~~ZZZ~~"
Looking at the figure lying on Soma's left shoulder, Erina can't help but complain: "Haa…Having a nap after a meal…Even talking in her sleep…She really is a kid"
"Heh, your complaint holds no credit when you are doing the exact same thing." Soma said as he lay his head on top of Erina's.
"It's just a figure of speech…Wake us up when we arrive at the resort Soma." Erina said as she also drifted off to dreamland.
"Your wish is my command." Soma said as he kissed both the top of their heads before noticing Jon awkwardly looking at them from the front mirror.
"Cough…Was the meal up to your expectation?" Jón asked as he left earlier to warm up the car's engine.
"Yeah, the food was delicious. It was on par with some chefs I know. Thank you for recommending it to us." (Soma)
"I'm glad to hear that. We are still 45 minutes away from Vogafjós Farm Resort, you could also rest if you like." (Jón)
"Nah, I'll keep you company. It will be sad if the remaining male member couldn't keep a brother company." Soma joked which earned a hearty laugh from Jón.
"Haha! Very well, I hope you don't mind listening to someone older bragging about some meaningless stories."
"Heh, every story is meaningful. Even the most random of stories consist of a memorable experience." Soma said nostalgically as he looked at the two roses sleeping beside him.
Smiling and nodding in response to Soma's words, Jón began his storytelling as Soma quietly listened on.
As soon as Jón finish his story, Soma felt a stir on both of his shoulders.
"Your timing is spot on as ever, I was just about to wake you up " Soma said as Erina and Alice both looked up and saw a guesthouse occupied their view.
"We're finally here. It looks a cozy and intimate place to spend the winter." Erina said as she looked at the white scenery surrounding the place.
"Hehe~~not to mention the warm reception we're getting~~" Alice said while pointing at the herd of cows surrounding their car.
"Iceland is home to the wildlife. After all, they suit the role of locals more than us humans." Jón joked as he got off and headed inside to help them with the registration.
Making use of their spare time, the trio got off the car and walked around the outskirts of the resort. Feeling the chilly night breeze on their skin, the trio let out a sigh of contempt.
"This here will be the prologue of our new story" Soma said to the confusion of the two.
Noticing their confused expression, Soma just smiles and continues to bask in the winter breeze with his lovers by his side.
Christmas Adam (Day before Christmas Eve)
"Poke…poke…"
"Alice, we should let him sleep for a bit longer. We don't want him to be sleep derived considering the day we have ahead." Erina said while drying her hair.
"Muu~~that's not fair Erina! I saw you rubbing his cheeks earlier~~" Alice said to Erina's shock.
"?!"
"Hehe~~don't think for a second you can hide anything from me~~I know everything about you from top to bottom~~" Alice said as she walk behind Erina and took the hairdryer away from her hand.
"...Why do you have to make it sound so lewd…" Erina complained as look at her through the mirror.
"Because we're sisters in love after all~~" Alice replied with a grin as she gently kissed the back of her hair.
"Hehe…Really…What am I supposed to do with you…" Erina whined playfully as she felt tickled by the gesture.
"Pamper me like you do Soma~~"
"Hmm~~Why don't we ask the person enjoying the show for permission~" Erina suddenly said as Alice turned around and saw Soma looking at them.
"Why not, you two are my set of wings after all."
"There it is! The quote used by playboys in China when they are caught two-timing!" Alice said as she pointed the hairdryer at Soma like a gun.
"Eh?! Arato told me it was a smooth one-liner" Soma immediately raised his hands in defense.
"Hmm~~Who do you think it's guilty then Commander Erina~~?" Alice asked as she turned to Erina.
"Hmph! Take him in!" Erina issued with a smirk.
"Yes, Madam!" Alice replied with a salute as she pounced on Soma.
"Whoa?!" Caught off guard, Soma was pinned down as Alice gave him a wide grin.
"So this is how it feels to be on top~~I may come to like it~~"
"Heh, enjoy it while you can~~"
"?!"
Before Alice could even blink, Soma had already reversed their position as he was now looking up at a grinning Soma.
"So, shall we get started on the pampering Erina?" Soma turned and asked Erina.
"Yes. This is what she wanted after all." Erina replied with a bright smile.
"Erina, you traitor!"
"Heh, The value of trust comes with the possibility of being betrayed…Huh?!" Soma suddenly stopped as he was pushed away from Alice by Erina.
Stunned by the turn of events, Soma could only watch on bewildered as Alice and Erina pin him down together.
"You said it yourself right~~? So, it shouldn't come as a surprise~~" Erina said with a smirk.
"Hehe~~You copy the wrong anime Soma~~You should be copying the Soma from the Realist Kingdom but you copy Wein from genius prince~~" Alice laughed lightly.
"Heh, guess I got another quote wrong. But, I never thought that Erina would favor you more than me." Soma said as he looked up at the grinning duo.
"I'm just pampering her as she wanted." (Erina)
"Hehe~~you can't go against the telepathic bond of sisters in love~~" (Alice)
"Haa…One alone was hard enough but if you two start working together then I'm practically screwed. So, what do we say about no ganging up on each other?"
"Nope~~"
"Are we going to be in this position until breakfast?"
"Yes~~"
"It can't be helped then." Soma said as he allowed Erina and Alice to bathe in their triumph of getting one over him.
"Heh, you have chosen a seat with an interesting view, Alice." Soma commented as he returned from the buffet table.
"Hehe~~it is a one-time experience to watch a cow milked through a glass window, after all~~" Alice said as she took a sip of the fresh milk she just got from the cowshed.
"Is that all you're having Alice? It's a big difference from the dinner you had last night." Erina asked after returning.
"Mou~~Don't just assume me to be some gluttony~~I ate a Skyr beforehand you know" Alice said while puffing out her cheeks.
"Even so, a glass of milk and a dairy product is not enough to be counted as breakfast. Have some of my mozzarella cheese salad." Erina said as she gave Alice half of her salad.
"Muu…I told you to pamper me, not to act like a mother…" Alice whined but she quickly enjoyed the cheese which was made from the same milk she was drinking.
"Your plate is quite light as well Erina, it's just salad and bread with scrambled eggs." Soma commented as he took a bite of his pancake.
"It's efficient enough. Rye bread is more dense and chewy than normal white wheat bread."
"It's still not enough for our upcoming hike. Take one of my pancakes and no buts." Soma said as the trio continued giving each other food to the onlooker's bemusement.
"How good to be young~~"
Eventually, after the trio eventually finished their breakfast and preparations, the trio met up with Jón as they headed towards their first destination: Lofthellir Ice Cave.
"Before we depart, are you three easily susceptible to motion sickness?" Jón asked to the confusion of the trio.
"We have to drive through the bumpy dirt roads of volcano craters en route to Lofthellir Ice Cave. It's a common joke among us tour guides that the tour is not successful if one passenger at least doesn't hit his head on the car ceiling." Jón explained.
"I think we will be able to handle it. Just in case, we have motion sickness pills on hand as well." Soma said as the trio quickly tightened their seat belts and held onto each other.
"Ok then, don't say I didn't warn you."
After a tumultuous 45 minute ride that put roller coasters to shame, the gang finally reaches the roots of Mt. Hvannfell.
Once they got off the car, the trio immediately took big gulps of air to relieve themselves from vomiting.
"Haha, I told you it would be tough for greenhorns to endure." Jón laughed which the trio ignored.
"Once again, before we set off, are any of you claustrophobic or have any other medical conditions?" Jón asked in a serious tone.
Shaking their head in response, the trio followed Jón as he led them through the rugged and ropy lava field. Throughout their hike, the trio could see the amazing process of how semi-liquid flowing lava solidifies as it creates the most extraordinary fields of ropy lava.
After the 20 minute hike, the gang finally reaches the entrance to Lofthellir cave. Before they were allowed to set foot inside, the trio was asked to equip themselves with spiked wellies and helmets with headlights.
"Hehe~~it's a good thing we wore waterproof clothing beforehand or we would wet ourselves in the open~~" Alice said which caused Jón to do a spit take.
"Cough…Now that we are fully equipped, please follow me closely." Jón said as he led them towards a staircase.
Once they got through the locked door, they saw the only opening to get inside the cave which was a small and narrow gap.
"I will go in first. Do not be afraid and hold onto the rope." Jon assured as he squeeze himself through the gap and disappear from their view.
"So, who's going first?" Soma turned and asked her lovers.
"I will go first." To Soma's and Alice's shock, Erina volunteered to go first.
"What? It's the same concept used in playgrounds." Erina said as she stepped forward and braced herself.
"But…have you ever been to a playground Erina?" (Soma)
"Eh?" (Erina)
"Eh?" (Soma, Alice)
After a momentary stupor, Erina blushed as she realized she indeed has no experience of crawling through gaps in a playground.
Before allowing the fear to kick in, Alice and Soma each grabbed hold of one of her hands and reassured her that they were right beside her.
"Don't worry. Even if my surroundings are clouded by darkness, my sight will never leave the both of you." Soma said as he gently squeezed their locked hands.
"En en~~~You can never escape from us~~Also, why should the ice queen be scared when she is in her natural habitat~~" Alice joked, relieving the tension from Erina.
Smiling gratefully at her two lovers, Erina gathers her courage once again and deftly maneuver herself through the narrow gap. Once she got herself inside the cave, she was greeted with the image of the most amazing ice sculpture. A massive block of ice reached from the floor of the cave and right up to the very ceiling.
"This ice sculpture is called the castle as it serves as a gatekeeper to the inner parts of the cave." Jón explained after seeing the trio arrive safely.
"This is huge, I wonder if there is something inside of it." Soma said as he place a hand on the ice sculpture.
"Please do not use excessive force when touching the ice sculptures as it takes years and years to form. In actuality, it should not even be allowed to touch but I trust you three." Jón said as he led them into the core of the cave where it could only be reached by passing the ice castle.
Once they were there, the trio breaths were taken away as they were treated to the most extraordinary chamber covered with myriads of ice sculptures of every size.
"Welcome to the core of Lofthellir ice cave, home to the biggest Ice sculpture in Iceland and the famed Ice sculpture family." (Jón)
"Pretty…" Alice can't help but say as she looks at the baby ice sculptures that only started to take shape this decade.
"The cave also has multicolored layers of different lava. It's truly one of nature's wonders." Erina said as she gently held a piece of lava rock that have fallen down to the ice floor.
"Yeah, the contrast between the red lava ceiling and the aquamarine ice sculptures is amazing." Soma said as he snapped pictures of the surroundings.
As the hours go by, the trio continues to wander and explore every inch the cave has to offer while taking photos as a commemoration of their first cave expedition.
Before it was time to head back, Jón asked the trio to gather around him in a circle.
"Hmm~~are we summoning a demon~~? Is this a summoning circle~~?" Alice jokingly asked.
"Haha, unfortunately not. There is a final experience I would like to share with you. Please turn off your headlights and close your eyes." Jón instructed as the trio obliged.
"It's the sound…" Erina spoke up first as she was used to relying on other senses than her sight.
"It's coming from all directions. It's like the wind is playing a wonderful melody." Soma commented next as he could hear the gusts of winds echoing off the cave walls.
"Beautiful…" Alice said last as they quietly enjoyed the rhythmic combination of water dripping and wind echoing.
After enjoying nature's unique concert, the gang took a final look at their surroundings before heading back. Squeezing and sliding their way out of the cave, they were welcomed back by the bright rays of sunlight.
"Heh, that just shows how long we been down there. It's already noon." Soma said while doing some stretches.
"It felt longer than it actually was. I thought we were approaching mid-afternoon." (Erina)
"Hehe~~It was fun~~Especially when watching Erina squeeze through the narrow gap~~" Alice teased as Erina immediately responded in kind.
"I didn't know you have a butt fetish, Alice."
However, she has forgotten how shameless Alice was as she responded with an even more outrageous claim.
"I don't~~ I have an Erina fetish~~"
"What does that even mean?!" Erina cried out with a blush.
"It means I love everything about Erina~~" Alice said with a bright smile.
As Jón and Soma looked on, Jón brotherly patted Soma on the shoulder as Soma could only lament to the author why he feels like there are more Erina x Alice moments than him with either of them in this chapter.
After some reassurance by the author himself, Soma regained his spirit as they were now headed to another part of North Iceland: Húsavík.
Once they reach the city center, they stop by Salka Restaurant for a quick lunch before heading towards the second attraction of their trip: Whale Safari & Tour Of Puffin Island.
"Welcome to Húsavík, the Whale Capital of Iceland. Could I see your reservation please?" The girl in charge asked as Erina handed her her phone.
Once she saw the name, she stood dumbfounded for a moment as she recalled seeing that name before. Then, it all clicked. The honey-blonde hair, the purple-pinkish eyes, the gorgeous figure, Its!
Noticing the changing expressions on the girl's face, Erina sigh which cause the girl to flinch.
"Haa…Guess it's hard for me to enjoy some peace and quiet after all."
Hearing the sad tone from Erina, the girl immediately snapped out of her stupor and assumed a professional smile.
"I'm sorry for the delay Miss. Everything has been prepared, so please watch your step and follow me."
Seeing the girl regain her composure, Soma can't help but tease Erina about her acting skills which earned him a smack on the shoulder.
Following the girl's lead, they reached the edge of the harbor where another girl was waiting for them on top of a RIB speedboat.
"Greetings, my name is Anna and I will be your tour guide for the upcoming hours. Please take care of me~" The girl introduced herself cheerfully.
"We will be in your care~" (Trio)
After equipping themselves with waterproof coveralls and life vests, the trio bid Jón and the girl a temporary goodbye as they set off towards the ocean.
"Hehe, I never would have thought my final guests for the Christmas period would be the culinary trinity. It's quite an honor" Anna said while piloting the speedboat.
"Hoh? You even know our nickname, you must love cooking during your free time." (Soma)
"It's just a side hobby of mine, my passion has always been about marine biology especially whales and dolphins." (Anna)
"Question~~Can we ride on the dolphins or whales~~?" (Alice)
"It's not in our program but you can in other places. However, I strongly advise against it as it puts the dolphins under stress due to forced interaction. Let alone animals, we humans also do not like to be forced to do something we dislike." Anna explained while smiling bitterly.
"I know that feeling very well…I can safely say it's not a pleasant experience." Erina said as she recall the past where her father almost forced her to join his plans.
"Ma~~Enough of the depressing talk. You three are here to enjoy your vacation and it would damage my pride if you are not enjoying yourselves." Anna said as she sped up and headed for Puffin Island.
On the way, Alice suddenly said: "Hmm~~If I recall correctly, Ireland and Wales both also have Puffin Island."
"You are correct Alice-san. The three islands share similar characteristics in having an abundance of marine life but I personally think Iceland is the best place to visit puffins~" Anna said while puffing out her chest.
"Of course~~" Alice agreed as the two shared a light laugh.
"Hmm, and I here thought it was because Ireland is one of the only places that served puffin." Soma suddenly said as he recalled seeing puffin on the menu from lunch.
"That is one of the reasons Soma-san. In the past, coastal communities in Iceland had to make do with all available resources, so puffins were often hunted. However, it is now considered illegal anywhere in the country except here." Anna explained before turning to the trio.
"Are you three interested in trying some? My grandparents often said that a puffin's raw heart is considered a delicacy and is supposedly the best part."
"I'll pass." To Erina's and Alice's shock, Soma, the Soma who often indulges in his abomination was the first one to reject.
"Hehe, if even Soma is scared then it would be silly of me to risk it. I have my share of tasting unique 'delicacies'." Erina said as she threw a glance at Soma which he deftly ignored.
"What about you Alice-san? You look like the most adventurous of the trio~" Anna tempts.
"Nuh uh~~I'm adventurous but not hardcore~~" Alice swiftly rejected.
"Haha, I would love to record your reaction to my grandparents. If even the three gods of cooking are afraid, then there is indeed something wrong with their taste buds." Anna laughed as the group shared a series of chuckles until they reached Puffin Island.
Once they disembarked from the boat, they were greeted with the sight of thousands of sweet-looking puffins inhabiting the island.
"Welcome to the land of the puffins or else know as the Clowns of the Ocean." Anna introduced as the trio quickly took pictures of their surroundings.
"Why are they called clowns of the ocean? Is it because of their brightly colored yellow and red bills and clown-like faces?" Erina asked.
"That's one of the reasons, the other reason is…Look there~~"
Looking at where Anna was pointing, the trio saw some puffins crash-landed before making it up to the rock.
Resisting their urge to chuckle, the trio turned back to Anna where she explained that their name also came from their awkwardness on land.
"Due to their pudgy bodies, they are barely able to keep in flight with their stubby, frantically flapping wings." (Anna)
"Hehe~~How to I put it~~Even though it's clumsy and funny, it's quite cute to see them like that~~" (Alice)
"Heh. You find everything cute Alice, I bet even mole rats look cute to you." (Soma)
"Hmm? They are cute. Anyone would like a mole rat-like Rufus~~" (Alice)
"Wait a moment Alice...Are you perceiving every mole rat to be like the one from Kim Possible?" (Erina)
"Yeah~~He looks so cute and cool~~" (Alice)
Turning towards each other with a blank look on their faces, Soma and Erina silently debated before deciding to do what was best.
"Sorry Alice"
"?"
"Erina...Do it..."
Pulling out her phone, Erina typed in mole-rat on google images. Before the image could even finish loading, Erina handed Alice her phone and back off.
Confused about what they were doing, Alice took a peek at the image and it was over for her.
"Aah?!" (Alice)
"Ooo?!" (Soma/Erina)
"Is everything all right?!" Anna asked as she frantically ran over to them.
"M...M...My..." (Alice)
"My?"
"My childhood is destroyed!" Alice cried out loudly as she held the phone out for Anna to see.
"Ah...It's Rufus isn't it"
"Argh! My childhood is a lie!"
After Alice's rude awakening to reality, Erina and Soma try everything they thought of to restore Alice's mood. However, nothing was working until a baby puffin wobbled itself beside them.
Somehow, a telepathic link was formed between them as the baby puffin told Soma and Erina to leave everything to him.
Seeing the baby puffin's figure slowly wobbling its way towards Alice, the two gave their best 'Fight' cheer to the unexpected hero.
Mustering its best effort, the baby puffin was now inches away from Alice when its natural characteristic kicked in and started to fall.
"No!" Erina and Soma shouted dramatically at the tragic scene in front of them.
However, there was no tragedy today as Alice swiftly caught the baby puffin in her hand and shielded her from any damage. As the baby puffin and Alice made eye contact with each other, Alice cried out again, but this time it was: "Kyaa! Kawaii!"
Left out of the whole scene, Anna could only say: "I have just seen something incredible..."
After such a bizarre incident and with Alice's mood restored, the gang continues adventuring Puffin island but now with one more companion at hand.
As meetings come, so does goodbye. With the clock ticking over the hour mark, Anna told the trio with heavy hearts that it was now time to leave.
Despite their reluctance, the trio slowly walked back towards their speedboat while keep glancing at the baby puffin standing on Alice's shoulder.
"Alice..." (Erina)
"I'm fine...This is not goodbye, I'm sure we will meet again." Alice said as she slightly nudge the baby puffins bills which it reciprocated by nudging Alice's cheek before slowly flying off.
Placing his hand on Alice's head, Soma comforted Alice: "Heh, It seems like the baby puffin has marked you. It will not be long until we see him again."
"Mmm~" Alice said as she buried her head onto Soma's chest as they boarded the speedboat.
Noticing something behind them, Anna told them with a smile.
"You three really are special. Normally, puffins spend the winter alone on the ocean and only return on shore during their breeding season in late spring. But, it seems like they are all gathered here today just for you."
Turning around, the trio saw colonies of puffin seeing them off with the baby puffin leading from the front. No longer able to hold back their tears, the trio loudly shouted:
"Thank you for your hospitality! We will definitely be back!"
"In my years of doing this trip, it was the first time I have ever seen a spectacle like that. You three have widened my horizons once again." Anna said as she served the trio cups of cocoa and cinnamon buns.
"Hmm? I thought this was not included in the package?" Erina asked.
"Neither was the display on Puffin Island. Sometimes, we just need to appreciate what life gives us." Anna replied with a smile.
Gratefully accepting the refreshments, the trio silently enjoys their treats while accompanied by the peaceful and tranquil waves of Skjálfandi bay.
As they were nearing the whale's natural habitat, Anna told them that Skjálfandi bay was not its original name. Originally the bay was named Shaky Bay or Trembling Bay due to local seismic activities, but now, it is home to whale watching paradise.
"First thing first, despite the unnecessarily of this warning. Please do not jump into the water…" Anna said as she looked at Alice specifically.
"Secondly, please be mindful to not overextend your hand into the water." Anna said while raising two fingers.
"Last but not least, please enjoy this wonderful moment to your heart's content" Anna said with a bright smile.
As soon as Anna finished, the trio spotted a whale splashing its tail out of the water. Then, they saw something which everyone's bucket list should have, which was a dolphin jumping out of the water.
Making use of her immense knowledge, Anna slowly explained the types of dolphins and whales they saw one by one. White-beaked dolphin, Humpback Whale, Minke Whale, Blue Whale, Killer Whale (Orca), Pilot Whale, you name it, they saw it. It was like they were using Anna as a form to introduce themselves to the trio.
However, as usual…there will always be one troublemaker in class. This time, the troublemaker was none other than the dolphin as it managed to sneak its way near the speedboat and jump towards Soma.
"Whoa?!" Caught off guard, Soma was thrown off the boat and fell into the ocean.
"Soma!" Erina and Alice cried out worryingly.
Fortunately for them, the install function of the life jacket saves Soma from sinking into the ocean. However, there was one problem…The dolphin was intended to make Soma its playmate.
"Cough…Urgh…If you wanted to play, you could have asked politely…" Soma bemoaned as he shot a glare at the dolphin.
"Whistle! Whistle! (It's more fun this way!)"
"Haa…It can't be helped…I'll play with you, but could you bring me back on board the ship?"
"Whistle! Whistle! (No! You have to play with me first!")
While Soma and the dolphin were communicating, Anna had her mouth wide open at the scene as she turned to Alice and Erina.
"S…Soma….Soma-san….He can…speak with them…?"
"Well…He did communicate with a lion once to protect us…" Erina said as she thought back to the zoo date they had in chapter 14.
"En en~~He said he has an intimidating yet friendly aura~~" Alice said with a smile
"En…I don't get what you mean…" Anna tsukkomi immediately.
After clearing her mind, Anna decided to leave the conversation on hold for now in favor of bringing Soma back on the boat. Despite there being no imminent signs of danger, it was her duty to ensure the safety of her guest.
However, fate was not showering her any favors today as a loud sound resounded through the bay just as she was about to throw the lifebuoy at Soma.
"Soma-san! Be careful!" Anna immediately warned as the voice came from the blue whale.
Heeding the warning, Soma stopped his conversation with the dolphin just to see the blue whale loitering under him. Then, a giant splash occurred and blinded the trio on the boat.
Once they were able to see again, they were all shocked as they saw Soma standing on top of the blue whale.
"Heh, you scared me, big guy…I thought for sure I was going to end up in your stomach."
"Whistle…Whistle…(Us whales don't eat humans)"
"Haha. Anyways, thanks for the save. The dolphin was adamant that I should play with him"
"Whistle…Whistle…(He is a mischievous brat after all)"
Before Soma could respond, the familiar whistle resounded in to complain to what the blue whale said.
"Whistle! Whistle! (What did you say, gramps?!)"
"Uh oh…" Soma said with a tone full of worry.
Reinforcing Soma's point, the blue whale slaps its tail to make a loud slapping noise on the surface of the water to warn the dolphin to not overstep its boundaries. The blue whale is the largest species to ever exist on Earth after all.
Scared out of its wits, the dolphin immediately quiet down as he knew that this was a fight he was never gonna win.
After a momentary silence, Erina and Alice loudly called out to Soma.
"Soma!"
"Erina, Alice. I'm fine! I'm just fetching a ride on grandpa here!"
"I see…Could we possibly join you?" The two asked with a full tinge of excitement.
In response, the blue whale whistles again as two minke whales make their way towards the speedboat before popping their faces near Erina and Alice.
Recalling the explanation Anna gave them about minke whales being beautiful, graceful creatures that are gentle and friendly towards humans, the two slowly extend their hands to touch their snouts.
Almost immediately, the whales gave a small whistle sound in appreciation. Then, they turned their backs to indicate it was fine for the two to hop on. With their eyes filled with sparkles, the two whisper an apology before stepping onto their backs.
After ensuring the two were perfectly balanced, the minke whales slowly make their way towards the blue whale where a grinning Soma was waiting for them.
"Heh, how was it?"
"Are you kidding me, Soma?! This is beyond my wildest dreams!" Erina replied with her excitement brimming to the max.
"Soma~~~I need to know what other animals you can communicate with~~!" Alice said as she looked at Soma fervently.
"Hoh? Do you two really want to know?" Soma asked with a cheeky grin.
"Of course!"
"If you managed to make your way up here, I'll tell you." Soma challenged before softly whispering something to the blue whale.
Replying with a whistle, the blue whale granted Erina and Alice permission to mount him as the two gave a courteous bow before making their way beside Soma.
"We made it up! You best don't go back on your promise…?!" Just as Alice finished her words, her lips were captured by Soma's own.
Widening her eyes, Alice didn't even have time to kiss back before Soma did the same with Erina. But, Soma was not done as he pulled the two into his embrace.
"Watch."
On cue, a rainbow appeared in their line of sight as the two were entranced by the close proximity of it. Directing their gaze downwards, they could see it was the blue whale who was responsible for making it through its blowholes.
"Soma…This is mesmerizing…" Erina and Alice said before placing a slight peck on Soma's cheek.
"Yeah. This scene is reserved just for us." Soma said as he responded by tightening his embrace around them.
"Don't think you can get out of answering our question." Erina and Alice said teasingly as Soma just sighed wryly.
"Please don't ruin this moment."
If you guys were wondering what had happened to Anna…Let's just say she was busy debating whether this was the human world or the digital world.
"Digi destines…riding…Whamon…Server continent…"
"Hmm, it's already past sunset…Have there gotten into some trouble?" Jón said worryingly as he looked at his watch.
"I'm sure they are on their way back. Anna is known for giving her guests special treatment." The ticket girl from before reassured.
On cue, a speedboat made its presence known as it was quickly zooming towards them. However, Jón's attention was immediately drawn to the contrast of emotions shown by the people on the boat.
"Why does Miss Anna look like a defeated mother that's been busy dealing with her children for the whole day?" (Jón)
After the ship has been berth (Park for boats), the trio jumped off in high spirits while Anna was still sitting on the boat deep in thought.
"Urm…Did something bad happen Anna?" The ticket girl went over and asked.
"Tell the boss that I will be extending my break." Anna replied soullessly.
"Seriously what happened?!"
To rub further salt in the wound, the trio turned around and thanked Anna before cheerfully telling her that they will specifically request for her again.
"Sure…Hahaha…ha…ha…"
"ANNA!"
"So…to get this straight…You made friends with a baby puffin…got a grand set off by them…Play with dolphins…Ride whales and watch whale made rainbows…"
"Yep, that's about it. Well worth the journey, won't you say?" (Soma)
"Hehe…" Jón chuckled dryly as he now knew why Anna was acting like that. All of the things she thought she knew had been blown apart unintentionally by some guests.
"Hmm hmm hmm~~It's a good thing we are heading to a bath right now~~we need to clean up." (Alice)
"Agree. No offense to our whale friends but we need to clean off the bacteria we got from touching their skin. We don't want to cause another animal originated disease." (Erina)
"Well then, I'm sure you would love the Geo-sea Geothermal Sea Baths. They are similar to the hot springs you three have in Japan." (Jón)
"Heh…A sushi restaurant and now an Onsen(Hot spring), you really know how to make us feel at home." Soma praised.
"Haha. Geo-Sea is not just an ordinary geothermal bathing mecca, it is an experience that taps into the historical roots of a small fishing town in North Iceland that has harnessed the earth's geothermal waters for centuries." (Jón)
"I see. Iceland and Japan do share a lot of similarities in this aspect. We both used hot pools as a way to relax and relieve ourselves after a day's of hard work." (Erina)
"Hehe~~don't forget about the sake~~The sake is the best part~~" (Alice)
"Haha, don't worry. The place has a swim-up bar where you can treat yourself to a refreshing soft drink or alcoholic beverage while relaxing in the warm water." (Jón)
"Hoh…That really is a rarity in Iceland. I'm intrigued to see what the place actually looks like." (Soma)
"You don't have to wait too long my friend since we are already here" Jón said as the trio looked outside to see a building design to blend seamlessly with the mountain.
After getting through the entrance, the gang was given an electronic bracelet to wear before Jón told them that Iceland has a very peculiar bathing ritual when it comes to visiting hot springs or spas.
"In Iceland, we have to fully shower completely in the nude and clean up before putting on our bathing suit."
"Eh?! Does that mean we have to walk out in our birthday suit?" Alice worryingly asked while Soma eyed him with a dead eye expression.
Sensing their uneasiness, Jón quickly assured them that they will be private cubicles for them to shower in.
"Heh, it looks you Icelandic's really are adamant with your culture." Soma said while pointing at the signs and illustrated posters depicting the areas which need to be washed thoroughly
"Haha…It may seem unneeded but it is done purely for hygiene reasons and to keep the geothermal water, which has no chlorine, clean and free from harmful bacteria." Jón explained before they headed to their own private cubicles.
Once they finished the daunting routine, they walked out to the breathtaking view of one of the most beautiful hot springs in the world. The remarkable contrast between fire and ice just serves as an added extra to the amazing scenery.
"Beautiful...I can see why Time magazine rated this place as one of the top 100 most beautiful places on Earth." (Erina)
"Hehe~~there are three pools for us to enjoy~~Let's try out the upper one first~~" Alice said excitingly as she dragged Soma and Erina with her.
"Oh~~this is the infinity pool that has a swim-up window to order drinks. Do you guys want to drink first? Swim first or both?" Soma asked as Erina and Alice laughed at him to his confusion.
"?"
"Hehe, were you trying to replicate what anime housewives do when their husbands come back from work?" Erina teased as Soma's eyes widened.
"No way!"
"Hehe~~your rhythm was perfect Soma~~~I want to hear it again~~" Alice backed up Erina as Soma blushed in embarrassment.
"Shut up! " Soma cried out as he tried escaping by jumping into the water.
Not one to let their prey escape, Erina and Alice went in after and secured one of his arms each as they continue to repeat his sentence to Soma's dismay.
After having their fun at Soma's expense, Soma left the two and went over to the swim-up window to order their drinks.
Yup, you all guess it. The classic cliche is about to happen.
"Yo, babes. Mind if we join you gorgeous girls for a dip?" A delinquent said towards Alice and Erina.
".….."
"The silent treatment eh? I wonder what sound would those mouths eventually make." His partner said even more shamelessly.
".….."
"Oi oi, are you two seriously stalling for that dude to come back? Don't make me laugh babes! Why would any of you…"
"That's enough there buddy. Can't you see you're bothering the two ladies?" A voice suddenly interrupted the delinquent.
"Huh?! Who the f* are you?! Mind your own damn business!" The delinquent partner said as he squared up to face to face with the newcomer.
"They are my guest. Obviously, it's my business." Jón said unafraid.
"Hah! Big talk for a bloody tour guide. Michael, get him out of here." The delinquent ordered before turning his attention back towards Erina and Alice.
However, that was never meant to be as his face was placed firmly in the grasp of someone's hand.
"Haa…I turned my back away for one second, and some insect has already crawled its way towards my queens." The voice spoke calmly.
"Right on time Soma, I was about to minus marks off you." Erina joked as she grabbed one of the drinks.
"Hehe~~this lemonade vodka tastes great~~Thanks for ordering this Soma~~" Alice said without a care in the world.
"Oi Alice, that was supposed to be mine…I got you the Gin&Grape…" Soma responded normally despite both of his hands being occupied.
"Talking about grapes, I recall hearing them asking what kind of sounds our mouth would make." (Erina)
"Hoh? Is that so?" Soma said coldly as he tightened his grip on the delinquent's head.
"A…Ar…Argh!….Get…your…fu*ki*g…hands…off…me!" He screamed in pain.
"I always wonder about something…Is butchering a human any different from an animal?" (Soma)
"?!"
"Is it harder? Contains more blood? Will the blood splash around? Will your body still move a bit before collapsing?"
"You…you animal!"
"Heh, you should know that animals are very territorial. So, once you step into my domain, you best be ready to face the consequences." Soma said as relaxed his grip momentary before slamming the delinquent's head into the water.
"Boss!" (Michael)
"You're not going anywhere." Jón said as he stood in front of his way.
"Get your a** out of my way!" Michael swung but it was easily dodged by Jón.
However, before the situation could escalate any further, the security for once made themselves useful as they immediately halted proceedings.
After a short explanation by Erina and Alice, the two delinquents were taken away despite them arguing that Soma was the instigator of the fight.
"Tch, that put a damper on our day." Soma complained while clicking his tongue.
"It can't be helped, we are in a public space after all." Erina comforted as she wrapped herself onto Soma.
"En~~We are attractive enough for people to make 18+ pictures of us after all~~" Alice joked as she too latched herself onto Soma.
"Heh…Hopefully, I'm included in them." Soma followed up on the joke as he tried to forget what just happened.
"If you three would like, you could try relaxing in the pool nearest to the locker room. It is considered the hottest pool, and there is a steam room nearby as well." Jón suggested.
"Yea, we'll take you up on that offer. Your recommendations are never wrong. Thanks man, for this and for defending Alice and Erina." Soma said as the trio thanked Jón once more before heading to the hot pool.
Watching the trio leave, Jón mutter to himself. "If I was never wrong, you three wouldn't have to face trouble just now. All right, It looks like I have to make some adjustments for tomorrow."
After half an hour of soaking in the healing water, the trio felt rejuvenated as the geothermal seawater helped revitalize their skin and relax their muscles.
Getting up and heading to the last pool, the trio could not help but feel a bit underwhelmed. Don't get them wrong, the place is still beautiful as f*, and the place served its function as a relaxing place. But, they were still prime teenagers. After the adventures they experience today, they just can't help but feel they need something as a clincher.
It was as if some supernatural force heard their wish, a familiar loud sound resounded throughout the hot spring.
"?! That cry! It's!"
Rushing towards the final pool, the trio saw their familiar blue whale friend calling out to them. The final pool is not only the largest, but it is also the most famous infinity pool in Iceland because you can see the entirety of Skjálfandi bay by leaning on the edge.
"It's whamon!" (Alice)
"Alice…we had this discussion before…He's not a Digimon…" (Erina)
"More importantly, what is he doing here though?" (Soma)
"Whistle…Whistle…(Youngsters, let me introduce you to someone)"
"He's introducing someone to us?" Soma translated as Alice and Erina looked at each other in realization.
On cue, an ever-larger blue whale appears beside whamon as its tail splash loudly on the surface of the water.
"Whistle~Whistle~(Greetings youngsters, it seems my husband has been in your care this afternoon)"
".….."
"Soma? What did whamon's wife say?" The duo asked to Soma's surprise.
"?! How did you know it was his wife?"
"The moment you said whamon is introducing someone to us. It's obviously will be his wife." (Erina, Alice)
"Haha…Woman intuition is scary…" Soma chuckled dryly.
Obviously, such a spectacle would draw the attention of everyone. However, unlike the trio, they do not have someone with the miracle ability to understand whale language. While everyone was busy taking pictures and debating on why the whales were constantly whistling, the trio was silently spending the remainder of their time soaking in the pool and listening to the pairing life stories.
It was not until the trio whistled loudly in a goodbye that someone had the thought that the whales were here for somebody. But when they wanted to ask the trio, they had already left and headed back home.
"Heh, it looks like our trip next year has been planned." Soma said as they lay on the bed of their hotel.
"Yeah, we have to return. We're going to be godparents after all." Erina said with anticipation.
"Don't forget about little puffin~~We have to visit him again~~" Alice reminded cheerfully.
"Heh, I wonder how the others will react when we tell them about this." (Soma)
"Hehe~~They will probably reply as expected of us, only we can experience something this outrageous~~" (Alice)
"I wonder what else will you two rile in tomorrow...Don't tell me a snake god will appear in the place we visit next…" (Erina)
"Heh, you been watching too much 'Problems children in another world' Erina. If the snake god really appear, should I copy Izayoi and give it a kick?" (Soma)
"Hehe, I will hold you to that Soma. I will be expecting a similar flying jump and kick" Erina said before leaning towards Soma.
"En~~But for now~~we will keep your hands and legs in check after what happened today~~" Alice said as she took hold of Soma's hands and began massaging it.
Capitalizing on the opportunity, Erina hopped onto Soma's lap and gently pushed him down. As the two stare deeply into each other gaze, no words were needed as all the gratitude she felt was conveyed when she initiated the kiss and joined their lips.
With Alice joining it, the trio shower each other with an array of kisses before drifting off to dreamland in anticipation of their relaxing Christmas eve trip.
Christmas Eve
"Whoa, you three don't have to pack so many stuff. The roads today are way less bumpy" Jón said as the trio boarded his car with three fully equipped bags.
"Heh, we don't want to be laughed at for being incompetent greenhorns again. Plus, we would like to avoid the mistake of falling." (Soma)
"As long as you keep to the pathway, it will be completely safe. Of course, equipment is key as well. It is much difficult during the winter season after all." (Jón)
"Hehe~~that's why we all went for crampons~~" Alice said while showing off their boots.
"A good choice! Even though crampons are normally used for ice climbing, it also functions as a traction device that is attached to footwear to improve mobility on snow and ice." Jón praised their selection.
"Hmm…So which one are we heading to first? The two are separated each side from our location." Erina asked.
"It depends… Would you rather admire the beauty first or tackle the beast first?" Jón asked as the trio grinned in response.
"The beast first please!"
Complying with their request, Jón brought the trio to the place known to hone the beast: 'Vatnajökull National Park'.
"Stunning isn't it? Not only does it cover 13% of the surface of Island, but it is also home to Iceland's highest mountain, largest glacier, and Europe's most powerful waterfall." Jón introduced as the trio stood in admiration of such a behemoth.
"Unfortunately, most of the park is closed during the winter season, but fortunately, the one place you wanted to visit is accessible." Jón said as the trio hopped back onto the car and headed for their destination.
"This place sure is huge…I bet we could even stay here for 3 to 4 days." Soma said as he looked out the window.
"En~~We are only exploring the Northern territory, I can't wait to experience what the other territories have on offer~~" Alice said excitingly.
"I think we luck out by heading north first…Jökulsárgljúfur Canyon (Glacial River Canyon)….To think that the canyon we would be heading was carved out by a series of catastrophic volcanic floods and vast fields of lava…It's hard to believe…" Erina said after reading the booklet she got from the counter.
"Haha, It's too quick to be impressed, you three. Glacial River Canyon is also home to the second-longest river in Iceland: 'Jökulsá á Fjöllum (Glacial river in the mountains) that stretches around 208km long." Jón told before pulling up at the parking lot.
"All the more reason to get this hike started then." Soma said as the trio got themselves prepared to traverse the Glacial River Canyon to get to the beast.
Along the way, the trio could spot a plethora of flora and remains of ancient volcanoes before finally reaching the beast.
"Behold! The beast! The most powerful waterfall in Europe! Dettifoss waterfall!" Jón introduced dramatically as the trio were left speechless from the sight.
Even though they were miles apart, they could still feel the water splashing at them thanks to the mist carrying them.
"Unbelievable…So this is the thunderous monster that carries such great force of nature…" (Soma)
"Amazing…You can watch the massive glacial river cascading into the canyon…" (Erina)
"I know I'm being funny asking this~~Do you think some deity is living underneath the waterfall?" (Alice)
"Haha, maybe not in this one. However, there is a chance you may spot one at the beauty." (Jón)
After taking pictures and admiring the beast, the group continued on and visited its local neighbors. 'Selfoss waterfall and Hafragilsfoss waterfall'
Even though the two can't compare with the might of the beast, the two were not in the least less unique. While Selfoss is a beautiful horseshoe-shaped waterfall, Hafragilsfoss boasts a size that only falls shorts to Dettifoss.
With the northern territory now serving as a threshold, the trio promised themselves that they must surely return and explore the other territories that do not pale in comparison to here.
As the afternoon sun graced them with its presence, the trio finally decided to bid the canyon goodbye as they now set their sight towards its counterpart, the beauty.
"Tales as old as times~~True as it can be~~Barely even friends~~Then somebody bends~~Unexpectedly~~"
"Are you singing beauty and the beast Alice?" Erina asked the girl beside her.
"En~~It's a fitting occasion to sing it right~~" (Alice)
"Hoh, which version are you singing Alice?" (Soma)
"The new one from Ariana Grande and John Legend~~" Alice cheerfully replied as she continued singing.
"It's a duet song, aren't you joining in Soma~?" Erina teased.
"Heh, you know me. I'm a mess when it comes to anything other than cooking." Soma quickly dismissed.
"Hehe, no more surprising abilities like communicating with a whale?" (Erina)
"Who knows~~Maybe I have the ability to make a god succumb." Soma teased back.
"Heh, smartass" Erina chuckled and gave Soma a light smack on the shoulder.
With the trio immersed in what they were doing, the journey went by quicker than they expected when Jón informed them that they had arrived.
"Mou~~I still wanted to sing some more~~" (Alice)
"Haha, you can continue singing once you reach the viewpoint. It can be considered as an offering to the gods" (Jón)
"Offering to the gods?" (Soma)
"Yes. This place is called Goðafoss waterfall or waterfall of the gods after all" Jón introduced to the trio.
"Waterfall of the gods…I can see why it is considered the beauty of waterfalls" (Erina)
"Haha, one's beauty can only be appreciated once you see it for yourself. Come on, let's head inside." Jón said as he led the trio to the west viewpoint.
Once they arrive, the trio can finally understand why the place is called the waterfall of the gods by the locals here. The place is just like a sacred sanctuary, it's simply too beautiful to describe.
"Beauty is not the only thing us locals admire, the history it carries is also treasured by us Icelandic's" Jón said as the trio looked towards him curiously.
"When Iceland made the move to adopt Christianity as its official religion in the year 1000, legend has it that the law speaker of the Icelandic Parliament at the time removed his idols of the Old Norse gods from his temple."
"?!"
"Not only that…To reinforce his decision of supporting Christianity, he took the idols and threw them into the waterfall. This supposedly angered the gods, so they split the waterfall in two, and thus, Goðafoss waterfall was created"

"The story is quite far-fetched, but we locals just can't help but believe in it. It's what makes this place all the more special after all." Jón said as the trio nodded in agreement since they are believers of gods as well.
After enjoying the panoramic view from the west side, Jón led the trio down a river and across a bridge before reaching the east side of the waterfall. There, the trio could feel the mist caressing their faces, but it was much gentler than the ones they felt at Dettifoss.
Not letting such a scenery go to waste, the trio quickly unpacked their bags to reveal a picnic blanket and sandwiches to Jón's shock.
"How about we enjoy some al fresco (Outdoor dining)?" Soma asked.
"Can I? Won't I be interrupting your time?" Jón asked hesitantly as the trio laughed in response.
"What are you saying~~Obviously you're welcome to join us." The trio said together as Jón smiled gratefully at the waterfall for blessing him with such wonderful guests before thanking the trio with equal gratitude and joining their picnic session.
"Oh? You three are heading out again after just returning?" The owner of the resort asked the trio.
"Yes~~We were told that there is an event at 6pm today~~" Alice replied cheerfully.
"6pm? Ah, I see. Have fun joining in the festivities then" (Owner)
"Hmm? There is a festival for Christmas eve here?" Erina asked questioningly.
'Christmas Eve? Ah, so they are unaware about our culture.' The owner thought to himself before telling them.
"The 24th may be Christmas eve in other countries, but here, the 24th of December marks the starting of Christmas in Iceland."
"Eh?!"The trio exclaimed in surprise.
"We Icelanders celebrate official Christmas at 6pm on Christmas Eve, the 24th of December. That means that the 23rd of December takes over as Christmas Eve."
"Eh?!"
As the trio was still digesting the information, another loud cry resounded in the room as Jón appeared and looked accusingly at the owner.
"Come on man…Why did you have to ruin the surprise…I was planning to tell them myself…" Jón whined.
"Well, if I knew beforehand, I wouldn't have told them right? It's your fault for not informing me." The owner bit back.
"Haa…Well…It looks like the beans are out of the bag huh…" Jón said as he turned to look at the trio.
"Good try I guess?" Soma praised somewhat whereas Alice just rubbed salt on the wound.
"Hehe~~you blew it~~" (Alice)
"Cough…Anyways, we will be heading towards my hometown by the shores of Lake Mývatn. The masses have already gathered there" Jón said trying his best to move on.
"Your hometown?" (Erina)
"Yes. The place is called Reykjahlid. It is a small village with only 200 inhabitants." (Jón)
"Sounds nice~~A warm and intimate atmosphere where everyone helped each other out~~" (Alice)
"It really is. In the past, the village was almost destroyed during the Mývatn-fires. But thanks to the community, the village survived and endured till now." (Jón)
"A village comprised of people working together to overcome hardships, it sounds just like our home." Soma said as Erina and Alice agreed with a bright smile.
"Haha, if that's the case, then let's head on home." Jón said as he brought the trio back to his village.
Once they were there, the trio was warmly welcomed by the villagers as they were brought to the center of the village where the festivities were taking place.
"Welcome youngsters, we hope you enjoy the festivities our small village has to offer. Please, have some Laufabrauð to accompany your walk." An old lady gave the trio.
"Laufabrauð is sometimes called snowflake bread or leaf bread, it is a traditional kind of Icelandic bread eaten during the Christmas season. The bread originated in Northern Iceland, but it is now eaten throughout the country." Jón explained.
Thanking the old lady, the trio took a bite and immediately felt the crunchy texture.
"Heh, the fried texture is similar to that of an Indian Papadum." (Soma)
"En~~it tastes very crispy and bubbly. The leaf patterns on the bread are also unique between one another." (Alice)
"I think it's ok by itself, but I think it will be better if there is some butter to dip it with or as a side dish to smoked lamb or beef." Erina said which caused Jon and the old lady to widen their eyes in astonishment.
"That's incredible, you managed to figure out what this bread is normally served with."
"Hehe, it was just a coincidence." Erina dismissed while his lovers gave a slight chuckle.
After bidding goodbye to the old lady, the trio continued their walk until they stopped in front of a huge Christmas tree where families were seating together and enjoying their Christmas dinner.
"Heh, I wonder how Pops is doing." Soma voice out.
"Hmm? What's the matter, Soma? You're not one to mention your dad randomly." Alice asked with concern.
"It's nothing. But, just looking at the scene in front of me made me wonder how will the old bastard spend Christmas this year." (Soma)
"En…I can imagine he will be quite lonely without you around…" Erina said with a sad tone after imagining the lonely figure.
"How about we check up on him later? I'm sure Papa and Mama won't neglect a member of our family." (Alice)
"You guys can do it for me, he will probably laugh his ass off after hearing I'm what I said" Soma said like a true tsundere heroine.
"Hehe~there you go again~~acting all embarrassed when you are concerned about him~~" Alice laughed as Erina followed up with her own tease.
"Really, you father-son duo share the most unique session of bonding."
"Fine…I'll do it. I'll rather he make fun of me than him spending Christmas alone drinking beer while looking at mum's picture." Soma said as Erina and Alice gave him a quick peck for a job well done.
With that sorted, the trio continue their festival walk and soon saw a large booth crowded by lots of people. Making their way over, they noticed the people there were happily reading books and even exchanging them.
"Oh? It's rare to see some new faces here. Are you curious about what is happening here?" The shopkeeper asked after seeing the look of confusion on the trio's faces.
"I presume there is something to do with books?" Alice joked which earned a chuckle from the shopkeeper
"Hehe, that is technically correct. Our country has a tradition called Jolabokaflod (Christmas Book Flood). The tradition started during World War II when foreign merchandise was restricted, and paper was about the only thing that wasn't rationed. Paper was cheap, so the publishing houses flooded the market with new books. Thus, people then decided books were the best gift and started exchanging with one another during Christmas."
"I wouldn't mind receiving a book and reading it with some hot cocoa by my side during Christmas" Erina said as the shopkeeper look at her proudly like 'You get it!'
"Hoh? I have some doubt over what kind of books you want but I'll let it slide for once." Soma teased as Erina shot him a warning look.
"Hehe~~We may be able to find something that suits your taste Erina~~Can we have a look around?" Alice asked.
"Of course. Please help yourselves" The shopkeeper said Soma and Alice search around to find the perfect book for Erina.
In the end, they set their sight on the 'holy' section (Manga) as Alice show her diverse knowledge by selecting a classic romance manga 'Kaichou wa Maid-sama' for Erina's gift.
Not one to let his other girl feel left out, Soma also bought a manga titled 'Shikimori is not just cute' for Alice. Little did he know that this decision would soon threaten his place as the dominant one in the relationship.
After Erina and Alice were done choosing a manga titled 'Tomodachi game' for Soma as well, the trio left the booth and headed towards the Lake.
"Heh, it's much less extravagant than what we planned for our Christmas date, but I don't dislike it." Soma said while looking at the view.
"Maybe this is what being on a trip is about. People do say that a trip is never complete without some unforeseen mishaps." (Erina)
"Hehe~~maybe it is for them, but we created our own mishaps~" Alice said as the two can't help but agree.
Just as Soma was about to take out something from his pocket, celestial ballets of lights appeared and danced across the dark night sky.
"This is...The northern lights!" Alice exclaimed excitingly.
"It's much more beautiful than how it is portrayed in the books. Who would have thought we could encounter the aurora borealis here right, Soma?" Erina said as Soma chuckle lightly.
"Maybe this is just another one of those mishaps that we created." Soma joked as Alice pouted.
"Mou~! Don't tease me! This is obviously a natural phenomenon!" Alice shouted as Erina and Soma laughed at her expense.
After the laughter died down, Soma suddenly asked: "What would happen if I propose here?"
"We would obviously object to it as we did in chapter eight." (Erina)
"En en~~there's a time and place for this sort of thing~~" (Alice)
"Heh? Spending Christmas and watching the northern lights with each other is not the perfect occasion for you two?" (Soma)
"Nope~~There is already a placed Erina, and I had settled on~~" Alice said as she hopped onto Soma's lap.
"Yeah, we are chefs after all. The grand stage has already been set, and it's yours to capitalize on it." Erina said as she lay her head on Soma's shoulder.
"Heh, I'll make sure you two won't be leaving that place without a ring on your hand" Soma confidently said as the two gave each other a look before replying sultry.
"We will be waiting~~But~~accept this as your Christmas present first~~" The duo said as each gave Soma a loving kiss before whispering.
"Merry Christmas dear"
"Heh, Merry Christmas my angels"
