Hello everyone! Welcome back to more Joker's Wild!
Sorry for the delay! Honestly, I was hitting a bit of a wall with this chapter. Not only that, but I was also busy with work and life which made it so I just haven't had time to sit down and write.
But I'm back and- GAH!
WHAT THE HELL!? OVER 100 FOLLOWS AND FAVOURITES!? WHAT!?
I feel like Patrick Star returning home to see everyone there. WHO ARE YOU PEOPLE!?
But in all seriousness… Uhhhhh hi! Welcome to the story! I hope you enjoy your time here!
So, if you're new with my writing, I tend to follow an inconsistent schedule but try to write when I can. However, due to things like what I listed above, it sometimes takes a while. But there is plenty to this chapter! And there will be author's notes below as per usual!
[Also Update! So... I have been informed that I made a mistake. And truthfully, I think in moments like these where to fix the mistake would cause more headache... I'm going to allow the small edit to exist. Think of it as an accidental effect fix because I really don't want to rewrite the entire duel.]
[The mistake in question was Jester Lord's effect. It needs to be the only monster on the field to work. I didn't realize that but used it anyways. Whoops. So now, accidentally, I made it better and now Jester Lord needs to be the only monster on your side of the field! Thank you Valkoor123113 for informing me of the mistake]
[From now on, if you see a monster effect with a * at the end of it, that means the card has a changed effect even if slightly]
But for now? Enjoy!
Yu-Gi-Oh GX – Joker's Wild
Chapter 3
Rivals and Revelations
…To say the change in his schedule was simple would be false. Despite knowing what classes he wanted, he was still experiencing a couple of push back… mainly from a certain Vice-Chancellor who seems to have taken his constant win over blues as a slight against him. However, thanks to Professor Satyr, he was free from the creepy clown man!
And instead, Dimitri found himself entering the classroom for 'Professional Dueling'. In the front, Dimitri could see the one and only Jaden Yuki with his best buddy Syrus Truesdale. There was also Chazz, Bastion, Alexis, and so on. A big surprise was Taiyou, who upon seeing him would give a nod of respect. So many characters while Dimitri reached his seat and started to wait for the professor. However, when the professor did enter, his eyes widened as recognition entered his eyes.
Entering the room was the black-haired female headmaster of the Slifer Red dorm. A person who made Dimitri stop in shock. "…No way. Midori Hibiki! From the GX manga! That's how I remember her- WAIT! How is she here!?" The surprise was not over as he then saw a timid looking woman entering the room following Midori as he struggled to keep his mouth closed… because he would make quite a scene if they saw his jaw drop.
"Good evening class. As you know, I am Professor Midori Hibiki, headmaster of the Slifer Red students and will be your Professional Dueling instructor." She then pointed to the other woman with her. "And for her first-year teaching at this academy, we have Reiko Kitamori. Please refer to her as Professor Kitamori."
The woman adjusted her glasses a bit as she gave a nervous smile and wave. However, Dimitri's mind was firing at high speeds.
"Reiko Kitamori… Holy shit! Now I remember the other names! The Card Professors from the Yu-Gi-Oh R manga!" He stayed calm as he rationalized this. "She had those Puppet cards! And that must mean some of the other professors are Card Professors as well!?"
He then stopped as he pondered a bit more. "Wait… wasn't Duel Master K that duelist from the first Yu-Gi-Oh games that dueled with a copy of your own deck? What the hell?"
Shaking his head a bit, the boy focused back onto the class as Midori started to write away on the front chalkboard. "Now, this class will focus mostly on mock duels. Within these duels, you will participate within the professional dueling scene's rules and regulations."
Midori would smile. "Now, before we continue, I would like to ask everyone who their favourite duelist is and why they are your favourite." The students looked confused, but in his seat, Jaden Yuki stood up proudly.
Midori rolled her eyes a bit but let the boy speak as he had a big grin. "Well, my favourite is a tie between Yugi Moto and Koyo Hibiki! Yugi Moto was always my hero growing up… but it was Koyo Hibiki who inspired me to play Elemental Heroes in the first place!"
From there, everyone would start to go one after another. Many said Yugi Moto, the blues would say Seto Kaiba, there was some Mai Valentine picks from the girls, and all of them made sense. However, Dimitri was still lost in thought about the changes to this world. However, he did pay attention to the question and really, only one name popped into his mind. Midori then turned to look at him. "Now then… Dimitri. What about you?
Jolting to attention, Dimitri focused up as everyone turned to him. "Well… I guess if I had to pick… Probably Joey Wheeler." He noticed Reiko perked up a bit in interest while the other students looked confused. Out of all the duelists, he picked Joey?
Dimitri looked back at them confused and a bit baffled. "What? He's quite literally the best definition of the underdog story. I still am a big fan of Yugi Moto. He's the king of games for a reason! And Seto Kaiba was the one to redefine Duel Monsters! But unlike all of the other duelists, Joey never had the same status yet would constantly rise to the top! Runner up of Duelist Kingdom! Semi-finalist of Battle City! He started off as an ordinary guy but now lives in history as one of the best duelists ever! So if I had to pick a favourite, definitely Joey Wheeler."
Others would start to understand and nod along while Reiko stared with a small smile. Midori chuckled as she looked at Dimitri with a grin. "The fact that he's also an unpredictable duelist also appeals to you as well, right?"
"Heh. You got me." Dimitri rubbed under his nose a bit sheepishly. "The man is uses luck as a tool and makes it work! And truly… everyone underestimates him too much. I see him as an inspiration."
Surprisingly enough, it was Taiyou who sighed and nodded. "That explains so much." Turning to the confused Ra Yellow, he continued. "You use monsters and strategies people underestimate and then pull the carpet from under their feet. I know I want a rematch and this time… I'm not going to underestimate you this time."
"Bring it on." Dimitri held a grin of his own as the two stared at one another.
However, Midori snapped her fingers. "Since you're so willing, you can be our first real duel test for our class." Ignoring the groan of a missed chance from a certain Slifer Red, she continued. "For now, we're going to go over the basics of the professional dueling scene. Specifically, the rulings."
Passing the chalk over to Reiko, the woman eeped in surprise but took the chalk and nodded. Continuing the train of thought, she started to write. "T-The rules in the professional scene are d-different. There are t-two main changes compared to the common duels." Reiko steadied herself as she smiled. "The first is that most professional duels follow different tournament formats and rulesets. Some have winners bracket and losers bracket, some are best two out of three, best three out of five… Duels can be tag duels, can have 8000 per duelist… and so on."
Reiko then passed the chalk back to Midori who took it with a smile. "The second major change is how Professional Duels require you to register a deck." Turning to the class, she crossed her arms. "Now some of you may have multiple decks and may switch between them. But when in a tournament? You must use a registered deck. And to prevent duelists from constantly switching decks, you must stick with only one deck per tournament."
One student in the back raise their hand. "How do you register a deck?"
Midori smiled and passed it back to Reiko who nodded. "By going through Kaiba Corporation. Now, registration actually takes some time as you need to explain your deck in detail. As Seto Kaiba states himself, he refuses to have 'Third rate duelists with fourth rate decks' in the professional scene."
Dimitri bit his tongue at the comment but nodded. It makes sense. A deck is really a deck when it starts to come together and if you just toss whatever in, then it's not going to flow correctly. It's why he struggles with his next deck. It's missing the final piece…
Midori continued the conversation. "Through the registration process, you will be individually registering a card in the deck. The point of this is that sometimes you want to run one copy of a card or sometimes it's three. Additionally, one factor you have to know is that register deck lists can be accessed by any other professional duelist in a tournament. They can see what cards you have but they cannot use your deck."
Turning to Dimitri and Taiyou, she smiled. "As we have our two eager volunteers, we will have our first assignment of the class if they are up for it." Bringing them up to the duel field at the front of the class, she nodded. "You will, after this class, hand in a deck list of the cards within your deck. The rest of the class will watch your duel, see what you did right and wrong, and then try to connect it with your deck lists."
Taiyou turned to Dimitri. "You up for it? I know you enjoy the unpredictability of your deck."
"…And give up a chance for a fun duel? Hell no." Dimitri held a fist bump out to Taiyou. "Besides, I can't win off being unpredictable forever."
"Heh. That's true." Taiyou returned the fist bump as he and Dimitri turned and walked to the opposite sides of the field.
Midori turned to Reiko who nodded. On a nearby monitor, a coin flip would be visible on as it showed both duelist's names on each side. Once it landed, it stated Taiyou's name. "This is a mock duel between Dimitri Kagurazaka and Taiyou Torimaki! Life Points are set to 4000 and Taiyou will have the first turn! Duelists… on your mark!"
As he reached the end of the field, Dimitri grinned as he turned to Taiyou. "Then let's get this rematch started! Let the show commence!" The two duelists faced one another as they turned their duel disks on, a fire in their eyes.
"DUEL!" "DUEL!"
Dimitri: 4000 Taiyou: 4000
Taiyou drew his card as he grinned. "Card advantage is key… I'll start by playing Pot of Greed to draw two additional cards. But that's so nice, I'll do it twice! Another Pot of Greed!" Two green grinning pots appeared on Taiyou's side of the field before disappearing.
"And then, I'll summon Mirage Dragon in attack mode!" Taiyou placed the card down as a long yellow serpent like dragon appeared on the field with a roar. It had a mirror fog like effect on it's scales.
Mirage Dragon
Effect Monster – Level 4 – LIGHT – Dragon
1600 Attack / 600 Defence
Your opponent cannot activate Trap Cards during the Battle Phase.
"I'll then set three face downs, and I'll end my turn." Taiyou smiled a bit as he passed it on to Dimitri. However, as Dimitri drew his card, Taiyou spoke out. "But I refuse to let things be so simple for you. I activate Dragon's Bind!"
The trap card flipped up as Mirage Dragon let out a mighty roar. Dimitri blinked at the roar as Taiyou smirked. "Dragon's Bind activates by choosing one Dragon monster on my side of the field. While active on the field, neither of us can special summon monsters with less attack then the original attack of the selected monster… being Mirage Dragon's 1600 Attack Points!"
Dragon's Bind
Continuous Trap
Activate this card by targeting 1 Dragon-Type monster you control with 2500 or less ATK and DEF; neither player can Special Summon monsters with ATK less than or equal to the original ATK of that monster. When that monster leaves the field, destroy this card.
"Well damn. That's a powerful counter to my deck." Dimitri chuckled as he scratched the back of his head. "After all, any chance to special summon on my end fails because I have no monster above 0 attack." He then smirked a bit. "Though… was that roar payback to our last duel?"
Taiyou just stood there with a smirk of his own. "I can neither confirm nor deny that."
Dimitri laughed and shook his head. "Turnabout is fair play… Alright." Dimitri looked at his hand and nodded. "I'll set one card face down… and I'll summon Jester Lord in attack mode!" Suddenly, some reddish pink rubber balls appeared and started to bounce before exploding into confetti. And jumping out of the confetti was a jester with a lanky sticklike body wearing orange and blue clothes with a blue pony tail appeared. The jester adjusted their strange green and light green striped hat as they adjusted the mask.
"Now, Jester Lord here is a bit of a tricky individual, for he prefers to be the lone performer. If with a cast, he stays at 0 attack." Jester Lord nodded as he moved his hand. "But! If he is the sole monster on my field… then he gains a power boost for cards within the spell and trap zone! So right now? He's at 3000!"
Jester Lord
Effect Monster – Level 1 – DARK – Spellcaster
3000 Attack / 0 Defence
While this card is the only monster on your side of the field, it gains 1000 ATK for each card in the Spell & Trap Card Zones.*
This caused the crowd to look in shock and widened eyes as Jester Lord tossed up three bouncy balls that glowed, juggling them in place. All the while by the teachers, Reiko gasped. "Did… he just summon a monster as strong as strong as the Blue-Eyes White Dragon? On his first turn?"
However, Midori smirked. "What an interesting card. But I think it's not so cut and dry."
"Alright Jester Lord! Show them what you're made of." At Dimitri's command, Jester lord reeled back a ball like a baseball and was going to throw… when Taiyou smirked. That smirk made Dimitri stop and chuckle. "You have a play around this don't you?"
"I do. I activate Dragon's Rebirth!" Suddenly, Mirage Dragon burst into flames as the flames grew larger and larger. "By banishing one dragon monster I control, I can special summon one dragon from my hand!"
Dragon's Rebirth
Normal Trap
Target 1 Dragon monster you control; banish that target, and if you do, Special Summon 1 Dragon monster from your hand or GY.
Dimitri looked confused before he stopped and laughed. "You crafty son of a bitch!" Ignoring the glare from Professor Hibiki for his swearing, he continued. "Dragon's Bind prevents us from special summoning monsters with less attack then the dragon selected. But even if you were summoning a weaker dragon, you still could."
Taiyou nodded. "That's right. Dragon's Bind leaves the field when my monster leaves the field." He then shrugged. "But that doesn't matter as I'll be summoning… Des Volstgalph in attack mode!" The fire started to grow before shrinking down. As it shrunk, red scaled limbs started to appear. Finally, once it fully faded, a red dragon with a blue underside roared.
Des Volstgalph
Effect Monster – Level 6 – EARTH – Dragon
2200 Attack / 1700 Defence
If this card destroys an opponent's monster by battle and sends it to the Graveyard: Inflict 500 damage to your opponent. Each time a Normal or Quick-Play Spell Card resolves, this card gains 200 ATK until the end of this turn.
Dimitri grinned. "Damn. Nice play man. I stop my attack." Jester Lord stopped preparing their throw as they stood there, juggling two balls and hopping in place.
There was some confusion in the crowd as Taiyou smirked. "Ah ha! So I was right! It's not counting your own cards but my spell and traps as well!"
Jester Lord: 2000 Attack / 0 Defence
Midori sighed with a smile. "I figured as much. Jester Lord is a monster that can be as powerful as Blue-Eyes, even more… but the caveat seems to be that the monster is tricky to work with."
Dimitri nodded at the Professor. "Yep. He's a good card for my deck… part of collection 'anti-synergy' cards."
"Anti-synergy?" Reiko spoke up confused as other students looked intrigued as she continued to speak. "What do you mean by that?"
Dimitri scratched the back of his head. "Well… everyone knows this deck at this point. So, I tend to have some cards in the deck that work differently from the rest but stick to the theme." He then pointed to Jester Lord. "Him along with Chaos Necromancer are part of it. Along with another fun friend of mine." Dimitri then sighed. "But not much I can do though… so I'll end my turn."
Passing it back to Taiyou, the Obelisk Blue drew his card as he smirked. "Perfect! I'll play my other face down… Dragoncarnation!" A swirling vortex appeared on Taiyou's side of the field. "This lets me target one of my banished dragons and add them to my hand." A card shot out of his duel disk as he placed it down. "So welcome back Mirage Dragon!"
Dragoncarnation
Normal Trap
Target 1 of your banished Dragon-Type monsters; add that target to your hand.
…
Mirage Dragon: 1600 Attack / 600 Defence
…
Jester Lord: 1000 Attack / 0 Defence
This made Dimitri curse a bit. "Really don't like seeing that guy."
"Figured as much." Taiyou smirked and pointed towards Jester Lord. "Des Volstgalph! Destroy Jester Lord!" The dragon let out a might roar as it shot a burst of flames at Jester Lord "That's not all! When Des Volstgalph destroys a monster, he inflicts 500 damage!" The fire then hit Jester Lord in the stomach as he shattered into particles, the fire continuing on to hit Dimitri.
Jester Lord: 1000 Attack / 0 Defence
Des Volstgalph: 2200 Attack / 1700 Defence
...
Dimitri: 4000 – 1200 – 500 = 2300
"Now! Mirage Dragon! Attack directly!" The serpent curled up before charging at Dimitri, hitting him directly with a charge tackle as Dimitri stood strong.
Dimitri: 2300 – 1600 = 700
Taiyou smiled as he nodded. "I'll end my turn."
Dimitri drew his card as he sent a stink eye at Mirage Dragon with a deadpan expression. "I'm really hating that Mirage Dragon." Looking at his hand, he nodded. "I'll start this off with a classic… Graceful Charity!"
Graceful Charity
Normal Spell
Draw 3 cards, then discard 2 cards.
Taiyou nodded but pointed to his dragon with his thumb. "Because a normal or quick-play spell has resolved, Des Volstgalph gains 200 Attack until the end of the turn."
Des Volstgalph: 2400 Attack / 1700 Defence
"Fair enough… but he's not my target. At least not yet!" Dimitri smirked as an angel appeared with a shining card in their hands… the shine would fall to the ground and turn into three baskets appeared.
Taiyou's eyes widened before narrowing. "…Ojamas."
"Bingo!" Dimitri grinned as the drumroll appeared once more and bursting out of the baskets was Ojama Yellow, Green, and Black. "It's the one and only Ojama Trio! And for my normal summon, I summon in Attack mode… Ojama Black!" While Yellow and Green disappeared, Ojama Black stayed on the field as he did a flip and a pose as he stuck the landing. "TA-DA!"
Ojama Black
Normal Monster – Level 2 – LIGHT – Beast
0 Attack / 1000 Defence
He's one of the Ojama Trio. It's said that he butts in by any means necessary. It's also said that when the three are together, something happens.
Taiyou raised a brow as Dimitri grinned. "Next I'll play… Last Will!" A large paper appeared above Dimitri's side of the field. Des Volstgalph would give another roar as it glowed with more power.
Des Volstgalph: 2600 Attack / 1700 Defence
Dimitri grinned as he pointed at the will. "When a monster is sent to the graveyard on my side of the field this turn, I can special summon one monster from my deck! And that's perfect timing… Why? Because it's time for a ritual!"
"I play Black Illusion Ritual!" A mystical pot appeared as Ojama Black gulped but nodded determinedly. Jumping into the mist escaping the pot, the mist grew and exploded out. Dimitri posed dramatically as he raised his hand into the air. "By tributing Ojama Black on the field, I can ritual summon from my hand… Relinquished!"
The mist then started to form and gain shape into a strange one creature with a floating torso, a single eye, and large claws. It hovered there menacingly.
Black Illusion Ritual
Ritual Spell
This card is used to Ritual Summon "Relinquished". You must also Tribute a monster from your hand or field whose Level is 1 or more.
...
Relinquished
Ritual Monster – Level 1 – DARK – Spellcaster
0 Attack / 0 Defence
You can Ritual Summon this card with "Black Illusion Ritual". Once per turn: You can target 1 monster your opponent controls; equip that target to this card (max. 1). This card's ATK/DEF become equal to that equipped monster's. If this card would be destroyed by battle, destroy that equipped monster instead. While equipped with that monster, any battle damage you take from battles involving this card inflicts equal effect damage to your opponent.
Taiyou stared at the creature stunned as her pointed at it in shock. "Where the fuck did you get a Relinquished!?" The monster just continued to float there.
At the question, Dimitri gained a deadpan expression. "The reject well. And no, I'm not kidding."
"…You know, I'm starting to understand your dislike for people throwing away cards." Taiyou spoke as other duelists in the crowd nodded.
"I know! I mean, I get the whole 'get the strong cards' but any card has use. And the well shows not the cards issue but the duelist's issue with he cards!" Dimitri groaned as he pointed to Relinquished. "Someone looked at Relinquished, a staple monster of Maximillion Pegasus, and said 'It's bad'."
Shaking his head, he sighed. "Anyways… I activate Relinquishes effect to absorb one of your monsters into Relinquished… and I choose Mirage Dragon."
Taiyou was confused at the choice as Relinquished reached forward and grabbed Mirage Dragon. It was then slowly absorbed into the monster's strange stomach as Relinquished gained a reflective sheen to itself.
Relinquished: 1600 Attack / 600 Defence
Dimitri smiled at Taiyou. "However… who said that Relinquished was the star of the show?"
Taiyou paused for a moment as his eyes widened. "Oh no. Last Will."
"Ah, you figured it out. While Relinquished was a staple monster… that is not his final form." Dimitri snapped his fingers as the will grew and exploded on Dimitri's side of the field. "With Last Will, I can special summon one monster from my deck with 1500 or less attack points! And I bring out… Thousand-Eyes Idol!"
Appearing on the field was a strange green ball covered in eyes as it stood there dramatically. All the eyes looking around at different things and people.
Thousand-Eyes Idol
Normal Monster – Level 1 – DARK – Spellcaster
0 Attack / 0 Defence
A wicked entity that controls the hearts of men, its thousand eyes are able to see and expand the negative influences in an individual's soul.
Dimitri then grinned. "But he's not staying for long! I activate Polymerization!" A swirling vortex appeared as Dimitri's two monsters fused together. "I fusion summon… Thousand-Eyes Restrict!" A more grotesque version of Relinquished appeared on the field… thousands of eyes opening as it looked at Taiyou and his monster.
Thousand-Eyes Restrict
Fusion Monster – Level 1 – DARK – Spellcaster
0 Attack / 0 Defence
"Relinquished" + "Thousand-Eyes Idol"
Other monsters on the field cannot change their battle positions or attack. Once per turn: You can target 1 monster your opponent controls; equip that target to this card (max. 1). This card's ATK/DEF become equal to that equipped monster's. If this card would be destroyed by battle, destroy that equipped monster instead.
…
Des Volstgalph: 2800 Attack / 1700 Defence
Thousand-Eyes Restrict let out a strange growl that sent shivers down the spines of everyone. However, off to the side, Midori looked intrigued. "The more I see this deck, the more impressed I am."
Reiko looked confused. "Really?"
"Of course. It follows a single theme and despite that… it works. Not to mention he has created combinations that are different and outside the box." Midori nodded with a smile. "The question is… can he turn things around?"
Dimitri pointed forward. "Now… Des Volstgalph is my target! Go Restrict!" Thousand-Eyes Restrict would reach forward, grabbing the dragon before bringing it towards the mouth on it's stomach. Sounds of munching and crunching could be heard followed by a small burp as Restrict now had draconic sharp edges to itself. Some of it's eyes turned draconic and the mouth around it's stomach mouth had sharper teeth and gave a roar. "…Okay, that was creepier then I expected."
Shaking his head, Dimitri pointed forward. "Restrict! Direct attack!" Thousand-Eyes Restrict would float up into the air as the stomach mouth opened wide, firing a similar burst of flames of Des Volstgalph, hitting Taiyou directly.
Thousand-Eyes Restrict: 2200 Attack / 1700 Defence
…
Taiyou: 4000 – 2200 = 1800
"With that, I'll end my turn." Dimitri smiled and passed it back.
As Taiyou placed his hand on his deck, he chuckled. "Man. Just when I think I have you on the ropes, you find some crazy stuff play." Drawing a card, Taiyou nodded as he grinned. "Alright! I'll set one card face down." A card appeared in the back row of Taiyou's field. "And then I'll activate Monster Reborn to bring back Mirage Dragon!"
As he played the card, a large strange blue sword thing with a red jewel appeared on Taiyou's side of the field as it glowed brightly. Then, flying out of the glowing light was Mirage Dragon once more.
Mirage Dragon: 1600 Attack / 600 Defence
Dimitri gained a deadpan expression. "At this point you keep bringing him back to taunt me."
"Perhaps. But that's solely to bring out my good friend… White-Horned Dragon!" Mirage Dragon disappeared into a haze as appearing from the haze with a roar was a red dragon with a massive white horn.
White-Horned Dragon
Effect Monster – Level 6 – DARK – Dragon
2200 Attack / 1400 Defence
When this card is Normal or Special Summoned: Target up to 5 Spell Cards in your opponent's Graveyard; banish those target(s), and if you do, this card gains 300 ATK for each card banished by this effect.
"And now his effect activates. When summoned, I can target and banish up to 5 spell cards in your graveyard. So, I choose Graceful Charity, Ojamagic, Last Will, Polymerization, and Black Illusion Ritual! This is a total of five! And he gets 300 attack for each!" White-Horned Dragon aimed it's horn at Dimitri's graveyard as it roared, a spark of dark energy shooting out. Once it was done, the dragon seemed to glow with energy.
White-Horned Dragon: 3700 Attack / 1400 Defence
The crowd gasped while Dimitri whistled, impressed at the monster. "That's one strong dragon."
"Says the guy who summoned a jester at 3000 attack with ease. Anyways, with that, I end my turn." Taiyou smirked as he passed it back over to Dimitri.
Drawing his card and looking at his hand, Dimitri stared at the face down card Taiyou had as well as the dragon. He was hesitant but sighed before giving a big grin. "Go big or go home." Placing down a card, a massive swirling vortex appeared once more. "I fuse my Ojama Green and Ojama Yellow to summon… Ojama Knight!"
Ojama Knight
Fusion Monster – Level 5 – LIGHT – Beast
0 Attack / 2500 Defence
2 "Ojama" monsters
Choose up to 2 of your opponent's unused Monster Zones. Those zones cannot be used.
Stepping from the vortex was an armoured fellow with a shield, sword, Ojama Yellow's eyes, and the usual red undies. "HAHA! Tis time for battle! For glory of the King! For HONOUR!" Ojama Knight said this as he posed with his sword held high.
"…In defence mode."
"CURSES!" Ojama Knight put away his sword and raised his shield in a defensive kneel as he turned to look at Dimitri. "Tis it not time to protect! Why am I in such a state!?"
"Look man… I don't have the right cards for that." Dimitri sighed as he looked up at Taiyou. Instead of any worry, the Obelisk Blue was still smirking. Dimitri, noticing the smirk, sighed and shook his head. "…I lost, haven't I?"
This brough some confusion from the crowd, but a knowing smile and nod from Midori while Reiko looked in curiosity.
Taiyou nodded with a grin. "Yep. It took reworking my deck, but it was all worth it!" Flipping his trap card, he smirked. "I have the perfect way to clear the way! I activate Burst Breath! By tributing one of my Dragon-Type monsters, I can destroy all face-up monsters on the field with less defence! And with White-Horned Dragon at 3700, he can destroy all your monsters!"
Burst Breath
Normal Trap
Tribute 1 Dragon-Type monster; destroy all face-up monsters on the field whose DEF is less than or equal to the ATK the Tributed monster had on the field.
White-Horned Dragon started to glow with dark energy as it let out a massive burst of dark fire from it's mouth with a mighty roar. The flames headed towards Restrict who let out a small whine as well as Ojama Knight who's eyes widened. "Oh the irony! To be slayed by the mighty dragon instead of slaying the dragon! OH THE MISERY!"
Dimitri's monsters disappeared into particles along with White-Horned Dragon as the field was cleared except for Dimitri's one face-down. The Ra Yellow would motion to Taiyou. "I end my turn. Finish this duel man."
Taiyou nodded as he drew. "First, to remove that trap of yours… I activate Heavy Storm!" A massive whirlwind appeared on the field as Dimitri's facedown card was dragged into the air before shattering into a multitude of particles.
Heavy Storm
Normal Spell
Destroy all Spell and Trap Cards on the field.
Dimitri stared at Taiyou with a wide grin as the blue duelist nodded. "Now! I summon Baby Dragon in attack mode and attack you for game!" As he placed down the final card, a small orange dragon appeared on his side of the field with a tiny roar. He turned to Taiyou with a happy grin before gaining a serious look. Then, with all the power it could muster, Baby Dragon would rush forward and punch Dimitri full force.
Baby Dragon

Much more than just a child, this dragon is gifted with untapped power.
…
Dimitri: 700 – 1200 = 0
TAIYOU WINS!
As he landed on his back, Dimitri was silent for a moment. The class watched as he rested on the ground there… before the Ra Yellow laughed out loud. "Damn! Good game man! Standing back up, he would walk over to Taiyou and hold a hand out. "Awesome duel!"
Taiyou blinked but chuckled and shook his head as he took the extended hand. "Thanks. Say… what was that trap you kept trying to play?"
Dimitri nodded and pulled out the card as he held it out to Taiyou.
Scrap-Iron Scarecrow
Normal Trap
When an opponent's monster declares an attack: Target the attacking monster; negate the attack, also, after that, Set this card face-down instead of sending it to the GY.
Taiyou whistled before he then grinned. "Too bad Mirage Dragon kept sticking around, huh?"
"Yeah, fuck you and your Mirage Dragon." Dimitri said this with a laugh as he shook his head.
Taiyou laughed in return as he shook his head. "You put up a crazy challenge, you know?" This made the Ra Yellow smile as he swore he could see the faint spirit of an orange dragon behind Taiyou. "I bet you got something else prepared." …Dimitri looked away a bit as Taiyou sighed. "You got a brand-new deck prepared, don't you?"
"…Maybe~" Dimitri chuckled as he scratched the back of his head. "I don't want to be a one trick pony, so I've been working on a new deck. I'm still missing the final piece to the puzzle… But it's almost done!"
Taiyou raised a brow but sighed. "Then I'll just have to figure out how to beat it like I did this deck." The obelisk blue would release the handshake as he adjusted his glasses. "I'll have to run strategies by Chazz again. At least this time it worked out."
"Wait what?" Dimitri looked a little confused. "What do you mean?"
Taiyou paused before chuckling a bit. Dimitri could see Chazz sitting to the side while rolling his eyes but having a small smile. "Well… after I lost to you the first time, I talked to Chazz to help me create strategies. And he was confused but accepted. He's really skilled with dueling."
Dimitri paused for a moment as he listened. From the sounds of it, Taiyou was connecting more with Chazz compared to the anime and games. The line between a grunt and a friend seemed to be changing. "Well that's great! What about your other friend Raizou?"
However, Taiyou gained a frown as he sighed. It was that moment when Dimitri noticed that the other member wasn't in the classroom with Taiyou and Chazz. "Raizou… we haven't talked much. Apparently 'losing to a Ra Reject' means I couldn't stand with him. Some other Obelisk boys seemed to be in the same boat." The boy then smiled a bit. "However, surprisingly Chazz is the one who's been vouching for me as well as your dueling."
The Ra Yellow's eyes widened a bit. "What? He's vouching for me?"
Chazz shook his head as he spoke up from the side with a scoff. "Of course I am. You're an unpredictable duelist. While your 'decks for fun' mentality isn't for me, I can see how you at least back up your words with actual skill." He then crossed his arms. "We saw it in the duel. Every time Taiyou had something to stop you, you figured out a way around it. Taiyou had to keep the lead and control the entire time. Because give a good duelist the chance to take the lead, and it snowballs from there."
Chazz smirked at Dimitri. "After facing defeat myself, I can't deny the skills some people outside of Obelisk Blue can have. And I'm not going to hold back." Chazz then, to Dimitri's surprise, turned to Jaden with a determined look. "You hear me Yuki? I'll admit it. You're a tough opponent. But the next time around? I'm winning the duel, and nothing will stop me."
And being the duel junkie he is, Jaden stood up with a grin. "Oh, I'm down to duel whenever! Get your game on!"
Now… ignoring the internal fanboying from hearing the iconic line from Jaden, this threw Dimitri for a loop. From what Dimitri remembered in the anime, Chazz went on a massive losing streak before being shunned by his own dorm. And despite the losing streak, he still blamed other duelists and would continue until heading off to North Academy.
However, this time around, Chazz was being more proactive. He was respecting his opponents but also still the cocky bastard that Dimitri knew from the show. And Taiyou was connecting more due to the two being in a similar state of losing to duelists from 'lesser dorms'. Taiyou lost to him, but Dimitri encouraged him to continue on. This lead to Taiyou going to Chazz, Chazz growing more, and the two connecting as better friends while disconnecting from Raizou who seemed to have the same attitude from the show.
…Dimitri smiled and then grin a bit. "Hey, you beat me fair and square. Here!" He'd say this as he would hold out a card to Taiyou. The boy would raise a brow and take the card before looking at it.
The boy paused and smile before grinning. "…You're just giving me more to use against you."
"And I accept the challenge." Dimitri held a fist out for a fist bump. With Taiyou returning the fist bump, the two moved off the field and went back to their seats. All and all, it was pretty good.
Though, Dimitri paused as he turned his head. As he did, he barely missed seeing a small spirit slip out of the classroom.
…
It wasn't until the next day while Dimitri worked on his first assignment for Professor Midori's class. At some point, while sitting in the café across from Sadie, he received a message on his PDA. As he read it, his eyes widened a bit as he turned to Sadie sitting across from him. "So, I just got challenged to a duel… I think?"
"Again?" Sadie wasn't surprised as she looked up from her newly completed deck. Dimitri was helping her out with it while she assisted him with his assignment. "I thought the battle craze against you ended. And what do you mean you think?"
"Well…" He tilted his head as he read it. "There's no actual challenge? But it's asking me to come to the school roof in an hour?"
Sadie raised a brow. "The school roof is off limits to students. You sure it's worth it?"
"Honestly? I feel like I should go rather then avoid it." Dimitri shrugged. "Who knows. Maybe it'll be worth it."
Sadie sighed and smiled at him. "Alright. But if you're not back here in an hour after your meeting time, I'm coming to get you. I still need your help with my deck."
"Done deal." Dimitri shook hands with Sadie as the two laughed a bit.
With that taken care of, Sadie then smirked as she chuckled. "So… you really flubbed the final turn." Dimitri looked up in confusion as she pointed to one part of his paper. "Couldn't you have used Restrict's effect to try and attach his dragon?"
Dimitri shook his head. "I wish I could have done that. But no. The only way to get rid of Des Volstgalph would be if Restrict was placed into face-down defensive position or destroyed by battle."
"Oh. I didn't know that. I thought it would just remove the attached monster and try to attach the new one." Sadie looked at the paper more, curious about it. "And even if you didn't summon Ojama Knight, you would have been defeated as no monster on the field and no trap means direct attack."
"Yep." Dimitri had a big grin on his face. "I got played… now I need to win next time."
Dimitri was excited to face off against Taiyou again. And this back and forth wasn't going to end any time soon.
…
…
…
Once finished at the café, the Ra Yellow headed up the stairs towards the roof. Upon reaching the top of the stair, Dimitri opened the door as he blinked. He felt a wave of… spirits? It wasn't an overwhelming amount of it but made him stop.
Suddenly, it all made sense as he stared ahead and saw sitting there on the railing was a boy with greyish-black hair, black eyes, and a big grin. "Here there man." The boy had an old blue tank-top with holes in it, greyish-blue pants, and his Obelisk blue jacket on him like a cape. "Name's Belowski. Belowski Motegi. Nice to meet ya man."
…This was honestly a shock to Dimitri.
Belowski was, like himself and Sadie, a character of the week individual from the show. Even then, while he and Sadie were in some of the videogames, Belowski was anime only. So honestly, so much about him is a mystery.
Dimitri smiled as he grinned. "Nice to meet you too Belowski. I'm Dimitri Kagurazaka. …So …if you don't mind me asking… why'd you call me out here?" Dimitri looked at him with a tilted head, still wondering the purpose of calling him up.
Belowski gave a goofy grin as a familiar little white square angel appeared next to him. Then a little angel with a heart on their head. And then a little rock guy. More and more small spirits appeared while the spirits on Dimitri's side started to appear as well. "Well, you have spirits just like me."
"Yeah. It's been amazing having them around." The spirits gave a smile as Dimitri sat down on the ground.
Belowski then sat down next to him as the Mokey Mokey duelist looked with some hope. "Well, the reason I called you out here was to ask a question… do you know how to control the spirit's powers?"
Dimitri raised a brow. "Not really? Why would you think I would know?"
Belowski wasn't fazed as he just sat there, looking up at the clouds with his hands behind his head. "Well, I figured that the guy with two souls."
…Dimitri froze at those words. "…Two souls?"
"Oh. I'm guessing you didn't know." Belowski had a sheepish grin on his face as he pointed to Mokey Mokey. "Well, Mokey here told me that most duelists have one soul. Duelists who can see spirits have a soul or something called a Ba. You have two of those."
This made the Ra Yellow student pause as he remembered something prior. "Hey, is that what you were talking about Spirit of the Breeze?"
Spirit of the Breeze hummed as she had a hand on her cheek. "Kind of. Ba is… harder to explain… that would have to be at a later time." She then focused on Dimitri. "But yes. I did see the two souls within you. Though, it's not really two separate souls and more two souls combined into one?"
Dimitri raised a brow as Belowski paused. "Would it be kind of like those Chaos cards? One LIGHT monster and one DARK monster to create something? Two equal parts?"
"That's… actually a good comparison." Spirit of the Breeze spoke. "You seem to have two parts. Each balancing each other out. …Can you explain that if you don't mind me asking?"
Dimitri was silent as he looked at all the curious spirits. Taking a deep breath, he had a serious look… before scratching the back of his head sheepishly. "I honestly have no clue?"
This made the spirits all faceplant onto the ground anime fall style. As some got up and glared Dimitri waved his hands. "No! I mean it! I really don't know much!" He sighed and scratched his head. "All I seemed to have gotten was some… weird knowledge about things I shouldn't know? As well some motivation in myself. It's like one soul solely gave specific details while everything else is gone. So… I'm still me. I'm still Dimitri. I'm just dealing with someone dropping a hard drive of knowledge on Duel Monsters stuff into my head."
Belowski stared for a moment as he saw Dimitri curl into himself a bit. The Mokey Mokey duelist patted the Dueltainer on the back as he smiled. "Chill man. No need to let this get to you." Belowski moved and returned to looking up at the clouds. "I think I get it. This… has been stressing ya out, hasn't it. The uncertainty?"
"…Yeah. It's like… I'm uncertain if I'm me or some weird combination. The knowledge treats people here like characters but… they're real people." Dimitri held his head. "It told me about the well existence. It told me about small details about people… but nothing lines up."
"And maybe that's for the best." Belowski grinned and gave a peace sign. "Think of it less as two parts. Think of it as one whole. You're you. You're human. And that means you're not perfect man. No one is. So take each day at a time."
Dimitri couldn't help but laugh and feel calm. "…Man. How can you keep such a positive attitude? How can you smile each day the same?"
Gazing up at the clouds passing by, Belowski chuckled. "Honestly? I couldn't tell you. I smile and just like dueling and having fun… and I want to do more of it. That's it." This brought some silence between the two of them as the Mokey Mokey duelist continued. "It sounds silly. But I what I mean is that when I duel? I'm just enjoying the moment and focus on having more then the moment that passed."
Dimitri spoke quietly as he gathered what Belowski said. "A consistent joy versus a grandiose achievement."
"Nailed it on the head." Belowski sighed and watched the clouds. "I still have my worries about the future, ya know? Everyone our age does. It's our livelihoods. But at the same time, compared to the days in the beginning? When I focused solely on being the best duelist? Being the top? Stressing over everything? It was a nightmare."
This explanation made Dimitri stop as he remembered the show. Belowski was an Obelisk Blue top duelist. Meaning he's rather skilled. It was shown in the duel as Belowski, even more laid back, was able to translate it into a lock-down strategy. And yet, at this very moment, Dimitri realize that perhaps he wasn't all carefree underneath.
Dimitri then smiled and joined Belowski in cloud gazing. "Your spirit powers kick in mainly when you're dueling, right?" A nod from Belowski gave him the confirmation he needed. "Then maybe your emotions are affecting the powers which occur more when you duel?"
"That could be a reason." Belowski chuckled. "So what should I do about that?"
"Well… if I may suggest, try doing what Dimitri does when he uses his spirit power." Spirit of the Breeze spoke up as well.
This made the Ra Yellow blink in confusion. "Wait… I have it too?"
"Oh absolutely." Spirit of the Breeze nodded. "You basically nailed it. Your powers are effected by your mood when dueling. When you duel Dimitri, you want to put on a show… get the crowd excited… which makes everyone start to enjoy it more and more."
Belowski's eyes widened. "And when I duel, I want to be relaxed and have fun. …Which is making everyone become too relaxed."
"Sounds like you just need to change your thinking a bit man." Dimitri nudged Belowski. "Try and have fun and excitement when you duel… and then be the same chill dude you always are when you're not."
Belowski tapped his chin before shrugging. "Eh. Might as well see."
After a bit of cloud gazing from the two, the door to the roof would open. "Hey Dimitri! What's taking so long?" Walking from the door was Sadie who looked at Dimitri and Belowski. "…I'm not even going to question it."
Dimitri scratched the back of his head sheepishly. "Sorry… lost track of time. Belowski, this is my friend and manager Sadie. Sadie, this is my new buddy Belowski."
"We were watching clouds." Belowski spoke with a leasurely grin.
Sadie raised a brow but sighed. "A pleasure. Now move over. I'm going to join in and see what this is about. But you're still going to help me finish this deck afterwards."
"Of course!" Dimitri grinned widely.
Belowski tilted his head but was still smiling. "Welcome to the fun! And if you guys want, we could look at my cards after."
"Sure! Perhaps I can add some pointers now that I know this a little better." Sitting down on next to Dimitri, Sadie grinned to the Mokey Mokey duelist.
The three then looked up at the clouds, feeling a small connection form… just friends relaxing and having fun.
…
…
…
As Midori would walk up the stairs, she sighed. "Damn Crowler. I can't believe this is the first I'm hearing about a student like this." Apparently, Crowler decided to inform her now that there was a student, who was pretty much in their own maximum-security prison of a dorm! And now that student was missing and PDA messages showed him asking another student to come to the roof top. And considering the times, they were still up there. "I swear… I'm going to wring that pompous' clown's neck after I chew these students for breaking school rules."
Midori finally reached the top of the stairs and opened the door to the roof… where she would stop and stare as Dimitri, Sadie and Belowski were sitting in a circle around a bunch of cards. Dimitri stopped before pointing at some of the cards. "Where the hell did you get these cards?"
Belowski gave his usual lazy grin with a piece sign. "Oh this? Some rude duelist came to this card shop I was at called the 'Store Breaker' or something. He got beat in a duel and had to give up his cards. This included these cards."
"Wait… what?" Sadie looked confused. "Store Breaker?"
"Yeah. Some dude who went to different card shops and would duel for the rarest cards. He tried to pick a fight at Kame Game." Belowski chuckled. However, as he said that Dimitri's eyes widened.
Dimitri would slowly turn to Belowski. "…Kame Game? …Isn't that run by Solomon Muto, the grandfather of Yugi Moto!?"
Belowski tilted his head in confusion. "Yeah? Who else would take down the Store Breaker when they target their grandfather's shop?"
At this, both Dimitri and Sadie moved in front of Belowski in shock as they screamed. "You met the King of Games!?" Belowski would just laugh as the two started to shake him. "DON'T JUST LAUGH! GIVE US DETAILS!"
Midori stood there as she watched the three students slowly burst out into laughter together. For a short instant, the scene in front of her changed to her, her brother, and their friends sitting around one another.
So, as a smile formed on her face, she would turn around and walk back down the stairs. She'll reprimand them later as the roof was off limits to students normally. But for now?
Let the friends enjoy their time together.
…Later that night, Dimitri would be sleeping in his bed as a light appeared. He slowly groaned, the light waking him up as he turned to where it was. Rubbing his eyes and slowly opening them, he would see Spirit of the Breeze sitting by window singing a hymn. "…Spirit of the Breeze? What are you doing up so late?"
The spirit continued her hymn for a bit before she would stop and turn to Dimitri. "My apologies… I was simply communicating with the other spirits."
"Communicating?" Now awake, the boy sat up more on his bed as he listened closely. "How do you do that?"
The spirit smiled as she looked out the window. "I was the messenger for the well. Singing on the breeze, I could speak to spirits around the island." She then gained a sad smile. "Sadly, the well is still being used as new spirits are appearing still there."
Dimitri smiled. "Would you like to go collect them?" This made Spirit of the Breeze turn in shock as Dimitri rolled his eyes. "What? You think I would say no?"
Spirit of the Breeze shook her head. "W-Well no. But-"
"But nothing." Dimitri stood up and walked to the window as he turned to Spirit of the Breeze. "I told you before, I don't see any card as trash and I'm willing to help."
Spirit of the Breeze paused before a grateful smile appeared on her face. "Thank you Dimitri."
The Ra Yellow rubbed the bridge of his nose with a grin. "It's no problem at all! We'll head there tonight!"
"And I'll head there too!"
"WAH!" Dimitri fell backwards onto the floor as he looked up to see Belowski hanging upside down outside on a tree branch near Dimitri's window. "Dude! Don't scare me like that!" He then stopped as he looked with confusion. "Also, what are you doing here Belowski?"
"Honestly? Kinda snuck out of my place." Belowski said as he held up some suitcases and other bags. "Professor Midori gave me all clear to do so… so you alright with a new roommate?"
Dimitri blinked at his response but chuckled. "Sure? We'll need to set up another bed and as long as the spirits don't go wild."
"Ah, no worries man." Belowski would head to one corner of the room and reach into one of the bags as he pulls out tools. There was a tiny bit of noise as Belowski was trying to be as quiet as possible.
Once he was done, Belowski turned to Dimitri. "Tadaaaaa!" What Belowski had done was set up hooks into the walls of the corner and a hammock in between.
"…That works." Dimitri stood up from the ground as he stretched and held out a fist bump. "Ready to head out man?"
Belowski nodded and gave his goofy grin back. "Awe yeah man. Let's get going." With that, the two boys would move to leave the room.
However, as Spirit of the Breeze went to follow the two, she stopped as she felt a whisper. Singing on the breeze and catching the attention of the two boys, Spirit of the Breeze would take a bit before turning to the boys with a smile. "Before you head out… I suggest bringing one more person with you."
The two boys looked at one another confused for a moment as they listened to the spirit.
…
Sadie stared at the two with a glare while in her Obelisk Blue uniform. "So let me get all this straight. You called and woke me up in the middle of the night… to join you two on a journey to the well for 'cards to save'… when we could have done this in the morning?"
Dimitri and Belowski moved to speak before the stopped and pondered the words. They then turned to one another as Dimitri spoke up. "That's true. Whoops." Belowski nodded.
Sadie gained a tick mark on her forehead as she punched her fists down on the crown of two boys. "THINK NEXT TIME YOU IDIOTS!" While the boys nursed the bumps on their heads, Sadie rubbed the bridge of her eyes with a sigh. "Fine. We'll go. But this better shock the hell out of me or I'm going to kick both of your asses…"
The three reached the well as Dimitri looked to the side slightly. Spirit of the Breeze appeared with a nod. "Sorry for making you take the fall for my suggestion. Either way, from what Wynn told me, she and her family have been down in the well for a while and are expecting us."
"Well… no time to lose!" Dimitri grabbed onto the ladder and moved to climb down first. But Sadie grabbed him with a glare.
The boy was confused as Sadie sighed. "Dimitri. I'm going down first."
Dimitri raised a brow before his eyes widened. He then blushed and facepalmed. "…I am so sorry."
"I figured you were just too gung-ho again. But let the girl in a skirt go down first before I actually follow through with my threat." She then started to climb down.
Belowski turned to Dimitri slowly. "…Girls are crazy man." Dimitri nodded along with him as he and Belowski moved to climb down the well.
Once the three of them reached the bottom of the well, they would see that the amount of cards had actually lessened. Seems people are less hesitant to throw away cards after Dimitri's showing.
However, Dimitri and Belowski paused as they both heard a loud voice yelling and cursing deep within. "OH FUCK THAT!"
"H-Hiita! Calm down!" A timid voice spoke up, only for the loud voice to shout once more.
"Shut up Wynn! We were tossed away! Trash, gar-bag-e, unwanted! And now you're saying some random duelist is going to come and take us in? I call bullshit!" There were sounds of rustling along with a yell of injustice.
"HEY! Leave Wynn alone!"
"GAH! WHAT THE FUCK LYNA!?"
This was then followed by three sighs followed by a female voice speaking with a tired voice. "…Dharc? Can you stop your sister? This is the third time this week."
"You're asking an impossible task Aussa. …How's Wynn doing Eria?" A male voice spoke with an exasperated tone.
"She's fine. She's hoping the friend she's been talking to will follow through." A calm voice spoke up in response to the male.
"Ah… Spirit of the Breeze, right? I heard she's been dueling with a new duelist. You think that duelist will really take us in?" The male voice spoke, a little uncertainty.
Dimitri's eyes widened at the names as he rushed ahead of his friends. Turning the corner and towards the voices, Dimitri found himself staring at six spellcasters, two fighting, one comforting another, and two looking tired. The five girls and one boy turned to Dimitri as Spirit of the Breeze appeared behind him and his two friends rounded the corner.
As they did, a few other spirits would appear… of a small reptile, a small dragon, a small fiend, and a small beast. Along with a small fairy that caused the white haired spellcaster to stop and gasp in shock.
Gaining a smile, Dimitri looked at the spellcasters with a determined expression. However, he then paused as he felt his eye twitch once more. "WHO THE FUCK WOULD THROW OUT THESE CARDS!?"
…
…
…
"I mean seriously!? You have a full archetype and decide "NO! Let's toss out a key part of it!" Dimitri was pacing back and forth as the charmers, Belowski and Sadie were standing there watching him rage. "I mean, what is it with people looking at cards and going "that's too hard so it must be bad" …Just …GAH!"
Aussa leaned in to Belowski and whispered. "…Is he always like this?"
"Pretty much." The Mokey Mokey duelist gave a smile as he was covered by a few small spirits including the familiars of the charmers. "Dimitri really gets heated when anyone throws away or calls a card garbage."
Sadie turned to the boy confused. "I didn't say anything."
"Well- no. I was just talking to myself, ya know?" Belowski gave a sheepish smile. Saide raised a brow but shrugged.
As Dimitri finally calmed down, he paused as a massive grin appeared on his face. "Wait a minute…" He grabbed the charmers cards and turned to the spellcasters as they gave a nod. Placing the cards into his deck… he felt his smile grow. "Ah HA! Finally! Deck number two is complete!"
The charmers felt some happiness, Wynn was hugging her friend Spirit of the Breeze… and it seemed like all the familiars and other small spirits actually preferred to be with Belowski who smiled as well.
Sadie shook her head with a sigh and a smile as she turned to leave. Stepping away from the two boys, who she's slowly considering crazy at this point, she stopped as if urged to. Once she did, she looked down to see a card laying on the ground. Picking it up, she read the card.
Fox Fire
Effect Monster – Level 2 – FIRE – Pyro
300 Attack / 200 Defence
During the End Phase, if this card was destroyed by battle and sent to the Graveyard this turn and was face-up at the start of the Damage Step: Special Summon this card from the Graveyard. This face-up card cannot be Tributed for a Tribute Summon.
As she continued to look at the card, Sadie couldn't help but rub her eyes. It was like a bright light appeared in her eye for a second. "…Okay. I think I'm losing it by being around them too much."
"What do you mean Sadie?" Dimitri said as he and Belowski walked up to her. Sadie turned to look back at the two boys and response as she froze… her eyes slowly widened.
Hiita, stared at Sadie as she smiled and breathed a sigh of relief. "Fox Fire! Thank Ra you weren't actually lost…." Sadie then took a step back, her eyes widening more.
Dimitri and Belowski looked at Sadie in confusion as they saw Fox Fire appear next to the card shop girl. Sadie then looked down at her side before she jumped away in shock. "WHAT THE FUCK! Where did he come from? And where did all these other people come from!?"
Oh. All of the spirits eyes widened along with the two boys. Sadie could see the spirits now.
…At least that would shock the hell out of her?
-TO BE CONTINUED-
Hello everyone! Void here!
Sorry for the delay! Honestly, it took a while, but it's finally done! Chapter 3!
And what twists and turns! Dimitri losing his duel, the professional scene intro, Belowski's introduction, Sadie seeing spirits, and the hinting towards the new deck next chapter!
…
Truthfully, I hope you all enjoyed this part because my god I went back and forth for so long on it. Questions like "Am I being too goofy? Should I go more serious or something? Should I do something else?" And so on. Plus, there's the fact of some people who won't enjoy the story. I'm writing a story where someone takes the role of Dimitri. Of course there will be people who will try and bash it.
But after a while, I remembered something. I'm writing for fun and that's it. So screw it! This is a feel-good story about friendship and duel monsters! Will there be more serious stuff? Idk. Maybe. Depends on the story honestly because I sure as hell ain't going to have super serious "You fail the duel you die" stuff.
But before that… TADA! Introducing our next member of the troop! The spirit from last chapter was none other then the little Mokey Mokey! And our good buddy Belowski has joined the stage! Reason being, if we're using obscure characters, why not the Mokey Mokey master himself Belowski? He's a mellow character who acts as a buffer for Dimitri's excitedness and Sadie's sass. But at the same time? Still having the same chaotic nature as them.
See if Dimitri is the center stage and Sadie is the go-getter… then Belowski is the anchor. The calming agent. He's the one who, I hope I showed in this chapter, is the one who would make the group take a step back and smell the roses.
See, from the start, I wanted at minimum a trio. I still have plans for possibly a group of 5 but right now? What we got is good. Don't wanna overflow the story.
…
Also, Fun fact: My character submission went through! So this is, officially, the first story to have Sadie, Belowski, and Spirit of the Breeze as character tags! WOO-HOO!
…
As with duels… they are tricky for me to write because I tend to jump back and forth with things. So I hope the duel I wrote was good!
Speaking of the duel, so I kinda went back and forth on this… but I'm thinking of having Dimitri's rival character be Taiyou. They have this fun back and forth rivalry I accidentally made and now I wanna see more of it.
…
Anyways! Next on the list to talk about? The Professors!
And for those who went back and checked what I changed… it was the class selection as well as removing the little blurbs at the bottom (because they were a pain). After a bit, I decided that "Screw it. I'm going to use the Yu-Gi-Oh R duelists as well." There are going to be other manga characters added into this story to flesh it out more.
And for anyone who has read a story of mine? Destroying canon and basically fudging it as I go along is honestly par for the course. Sorry not sorry.
But still… The main reason behind this is that I wanted to have more characters to have as professors. I'm sorry, but having only a couple for each is not realistic in my eyes so… why not add more? And I decided to use some fun characters.
I could have gone with other characters but one of the mangas I enjoyed growing up was the Yu-Gi-Oh R… so I want to give them some love. They won't pop up like crazy, but they will appear here or there.
But I will admit this… there is another character who will show up as a teacher. And what a shock that will be for everyone, so I hope you enjoy that when it happens.
…
Lastly, with the decks… There have been a lot of suggestions! And trust me, I am reading your suggestions and taking them into consideration.
[I'm just trying to figure out HOW to turn the suggestions into a deck]
And with the reject well, I have come up with another deck finally. Last chapter had Dimitri working on it and I've been working on it the best I can. And in this chapter, I revealed a clue as to what it will be about.
Hint: The deck has the base charmer cards in it.
Mainly though, the decks have been the biggest struggle due to the sheer variety of cards as well as the want for a unique deck idea. Because while I could go
And I actually have a question for you all. Many of you have suggested archetypes to be decks. And I wasn't really looking to stick to an archetype… but… do you think I should?
I'm not completely convinced and honestly like the idea of sticking with these mishmash decks. Archetypes feel… too limiting for me. Where the deck becomes overwhelmed with it compared to a deck like Zero Hesitation that has the Ojamas but also other cards of different groups.
Plus, a fun little fact, I tend to have 3 main cards per deck. Two side boss monsters and one main boss monster. To be the 'main cards' of the deck. You've now seen the two side boss monsters of Dimitri's first deck… Ojama King and Relinquished/Thousand-Eye Restrict (yes I am counting the two as the same). As for the main boss, well… you'll have to wait and see who it is, but the card is the perfect boss monster.
I went back and forth on the boss monster card. But after some time, I decided to stick to it as it was the card that influenced and got me thinking about the "Zero Hesitation" deck that started it all. It basically captures the essence of the deck.
It's a gamble. A play that will either result in Dimitri facing failure or reaching victory. It all depends on the play and how he can do it. Which is why the deck is called "Zero Hesitation". Because the idea is to go big or go home with the deck. To take a lack of attack and turn it on it's head. Thus, no hesitation.
If you can guess it? Good job! You get a cookie!
So yeah, archetypes are a question mark. Not against but don't really want to use them as the only base for a deck. Like, while Performapals and the Face Card Knights would fit Dimitri well… I'm not really interested in using them as a full deck because… anyone could do that. But a deck like Zero Hesitation? With zero attack points? It takes some thought and planning to make it work.
I'm just not completely convinced. Give me your thoughts on it.
…
But… that's all for now! Until next time! See you all later!
