"What plans do you have for this weekend?"
Erin asked as soon as they stepped in the parking lot. It was Thursday evening and they had just finished a pretty rough day at work. The plus side was that thanks to the crazy hours they had pulled that week, they were going to be able to work from home the following day.
"Um, I don't know. We've done all the touristy stuff, I've shown him all my favorite spots in the city, so I'm running out of ideas." She said a bit disappointed in her, usually brilliant, planning skills
"Well, it makes sense. You've been doing this for how long now? Five months?"
"Six and a half, but who's counting?" She joked.
"I'm really proud of you two for making it work out like that." Lindsay pulled out her car keys from her bag. "But how has it been? Like, really."
Kim chuckled at Erin's question. Her friend knew her too well. "It's been genuinely great, but I think we both reached a point where two weekends a month is not enough and anything more frequent than that would be way too expensive. I mean, this is expensive as it is, but it's worth it." Burgess shrugged.
"Yeah." Erin didn't say anything else. She knew it was just a matter of time until those two ended up moving together in whatever city they chose, but it wasn't her place to rush that decision.
"Don't look at me like that."
"I didn't say anything." Erin shrugged her shoulders.
"True, but I know what you're thinking and just so you know, we are thinking the same thing too."
"About damn time."
Kim chuckled at her friend's comment, only because she knew Erin right.
The last couple of months it had become clear to them that they wanted to be together for real, that this trial period that they were having to test the waters needed to come to an end and that they weren't fit to have a long distance relationship. They needed and wanted the every day thing, the routine, the domestic stuff, the little details.
Although the past time was good to them and they managed to support each other despite being far away, they wanted something different. They wanted what they used to have, only this time it would be the premium version.
"I'll call Adam and see what's in the mood for this weekend and I'll let you know what the plan will be so you can join us."
"Sounds cool. Talk to you later, Burgess." Both girls hugged before Erin got in her car.
"See you. Drive safe."
"Will do."
Kim stepped into her apartment daydreaming about the bath she was going to take to unwind from the stress of the day, but the unceasing vibration coming from her pocket had other plans.
She pulled out her phone and saw Adam's name on the screen, which called her attention because he usually didn't call at that time.
"Hey baby."
"Darlin, how are you?"
"I'm good. A bit tired. You?"
"I'm alright I guess." He let out a deep breath telling her that he wasn't all that ok. "Listen babe, I won't be able to make it this weekend."
"Oh. What happened?
Adam, is everything alright? Are you seriously ok?" She was begetting worried by the second and the way she spoke so quickly was giving it away.
"Relax babe, I'm fine. It's pops. He had an accident and he's in the hospital. Apparently it's nothing too serious but he does require a minor surgery. Kate can't go because she has something with Sam, so I'm going to check on him."
"Oh, honey. That sucks."
"I don't even know what type of accident it was. The doctors won't tell me and I'm kind of worried. You know how my dad can be."
Kim nodded from the other side of the line as if he would be able to see her. "Well, if they said it wasn't too serious try to relax. I know it's hard, but try to stay positive." She advised him as she played with one of her earrings. "When are you leaving?"
"I'm at O'hare right now. My flight leaves in forty minutes or so."
"Oh, now."
"Yeah. It was a rush decision I had to make I'm sorry."
"No, no. I don't mean it like that. Baby, you're doing the right thing. Just let me know when you land. Did you have time to book yourself a hotel or something?" She changed the subject completely because her mind was raving right now. She knew Adam well enough to guess that he just bought the tickets and was going to solve everything else later.
"No. I'm going from the airport to the hospital and then I'll figure it out."
"Listen, why don't you send me the location of where your dad is and I'll book a room for you near by, so you don't have to worry about that?"
"Would you do that?"
"Adam, come on." She rolled her eyes. There was nothing she wouldn't do for that man. "Just send me the information ok? I'll take care of the rest."
"You're an angel."
"I'm not."
"Listen, my flight is being called, I have to go. I'll text you the address in a minute. Thank you!"
"You're more than welcome. Have a safe flight. Love you."
"I love you too, Darling."
As soon as they ended their call, Kim grabbed her laptop and got to work and in a matter of minutes she had found a great room, close to the hospital and at a great rate. She booked it and sent everything to Adam, before grabbing her carry on and sending a voice note.
"Hi Erin. Listen, I know it's last minute, but I'm gonna be working from Florida tomorrow. Bob's in the hospital, Adam is flying there right now and I want to go over there and support him.
I'll call you when I get there.
Love you."
It was about two in the morning when Kim got to the hotel. She figured that Adam would probably be at the hospital and she wanted to leave her stuff first and maybe getting a quick shower before telling him she was there and go meet him.
She opened the door to their room and saw Adam's jacket on the back of a chair. After closing the door carefully, she turned on the lights dimly and saw a bump on the bed covered by the comforter, which made her smile.
When she checked her phone, Kim noticed she had a few messages from Erin and Adam.
I'm here! Just got to the hotel and Adam's here so I guess tomorrow we'll have more information about Bob. I'll keep you posted.
Thanks for everything Erin.
The brunette put her phone down and tried to fetch her pajamas from her bag without making too much noise. Once she finally found, she went to the bathroom to freshen up and get changed, but all she wanted to do was jump in bed and spoon her man.
Kim slowly moved the covers and slid inside, as she got closer to his body, she left a soft kiss between his shoulder blades and her arms delicately hugged his waist.
Adam stirred a bit and she noticed how his breathing pattern shifted.
"It's ok baby, go back to sleep." She lulled.
"Kim?"
"Yeah?"
Adam turned around in disbelief of what he was hearing.
"Hi." She said sweetly, getting a kiss from him as reward.
"What are you doing here? It was my turn to fly to see you."
"Well, technically we both flew so this one doesn't count."
"I seriously can't believe you're here." He said still coming to terms with what was happening. "I'm not dreaming, right?"
Kim chuckled. "You're not. I'm here, because where else would I be?" She smiled and cupped his cheek with her hand. "You sounded really stressed out over the phone. Are you a bit better now?"
"I am."
"Good."
Adam just stared at her and bit his lower lip,.
"What?"
"Gosh, you're the fucking best."
"I know." She joked closing her eyes triumphantly. "I love you."
"Me too." He crashed her lips with his. "So much." Just when he was about to speak again a huge yawn invaded him, making Kim giggle.
"Let's just rest tonight, it was a stressful day. Tomorrow you tell me everything."
"Ok, but come over here." He pulled her towards him and tucked her head under his chin as his hand gently rubbed her back. "I need you close to me tonight."
"I'm close to you all the time." With a soft kiss on his chest she said good night and they both fell asleep instantly.
Waking up to his feather light kisses on her neck was a million times better than her alarm clock.
"Good morning, beautiful." He whispered when he felt her move gently under his touch.
"Good morning." Her voice was still full of sleep and her hand slowly rubbed her eyes. "This is a nice way to start the day."
"You think? I have a better one."
He slid his hand under her shirt, pressing it softly against her abdomen.
"Baby, wait." She said giggling. "What time is it? Don't we have to be in the hospital."
"It's about six, I need to be there by seven thirty more or less." He stopped only to nibble on her earlobe. "We've got some precious time that I would love to spend with you."
"I would too, but I also want you to tell me how you're feeling with everything that's going on."
"Well, I'm stressed out." He continued to kiss her collarbone and shoulder. "Do you know anything that could help with that?"
Kim just chuckled. It didn't take long for her to realize that Adam was as in love with her as the first day and craved her as much as she craved him.
"I just might."
Her hands found his hips, and quickly one of them slid under his boxer and began to cup his shaft, eliciting a deep groan from his throat. After a few movements she decided they needed more comfort, so she pulled down his underwear freeing his manhood from its confinement.
With the extra space, her hand was now fully wrapped around him and stroked him up and down with enough pressure to drive him crazy.
His moans were increasing her excitement, and everytime he whispered how much she was turning him on into the shell of her year, she could feel her nipples getting harder against the fabric of her cami pajama top.
Kim scurried away under the covers, placing soft kisses on his navel, traveling all the way down to his hips, where quick her hands firmly replaced her lips and her mouth took all his erection in it.
She allowed her tongue to play with it, while listening to the noises her man was making.
"Oh god, Kim!" His hand went to the back of her head just to play with her hair as he enjoyed the pleasure his girlfriend was giving him.
She sucked with the perfect amount of pressure that had him holding himself back. He didn't want to come just yet.
When she broke the contact between them to fix her ponytail, he took advantage of her distraction and flipped her over, pinning her body under his.
He desperately looked for the strap of her thong and clumsily pushed it down her legs, and with some help from Kim herself, the garment was off in no time.
Neither of them could stand the heat, they just wanted to feel each other, and as much as they loved foreplay, they couldn't take it anymore right now.
Adam slid one hand between their bodies to grab the bottom hem of her top and just pushed it up, leaving her chest exposed to him and quickly taking one of her breasts in his mouth.
"Baby, please." She begged him, as her hand scratched the back of his neck and played with the hair at the bottom of his head.
Adam took her pleading as his command and used his knee to spread her legs. Kim hooked her left leg on his hip giving them the perfect angle for him to slip inside her.
The thrusts started slow and gentle, but rapidly picked up speed taking them both to their much desired orgasm.
"Damn, woman." He said once his back hit the mattress and pulled Kim to his chest. "That was incredible."
"I have to agree with you. This was a much better way to kick off the day." She snuggled closer to his body. "And I don't know about you, but I'm feeling more relaxed already."
"Oh darling, I'm ready to take in the world after this and with you next to me." He turned to look at her and kiss her forehead. "I love you."
"Me too, baby."
The clock was a few minutes away from marking seven thirty and Kim and Adam were finishing their breakfast in a nearby diner.
"So? Are you gonna tell me about Bob now? I think we had enough distractions already." She joked right before biting into her bagel.
Adam just laughed and sighed. "Gosh, Bob." He took a sip of his coffee before he kept talking. "He had a car accident." He saw how quickly she lifted her head up and looked at him with big eyes. "It's ok, you can ask. In fact I thought the same thing you're thinking when the doctors told me." She remained silent, not quite sure if she should say anything or not. "He wasn't drunk. But I swear sometimes dealing with my dad is like dealing with a child."
"Why did you think I was going to ask that?"
Adam rolled his eyes at her question. "Because I know you like the back of my hand." He said gallantly, making her smile.
"Anyway, it was a big crash, he fractured a couple or ribs and one punctured a kidney. The doctors said that it's better to perform the surgery to make sure everything is fixed and there's no internal bleeding."
"They're doing it today?"
"Apparently yes. They have this blood donning program where they ask for two donors for every surgery." Adam shrugged. "It's not mandatory or anything, but I thought it was a cool idea. I donated yesterday, that's why I went to the hotel to spend the night, I was exhausted afterwards."
"It didn't seem like that this morning." She said wiggling here brows.
"You know what they say, motivation is everything."
She bit her lip and shook her head. "You're impossible Ruzek." She stirred her coffee with a spoon and looked at him. "So, they need one more donor to do the surgery?"
"Yeah. I mean, they will operate on him regardless. The donning thing is like volunteering."
"I'll do it."
""Oh no, hun, you don't need to."
"I know, but I usually do it, so why not now that it could actually be useful for my father in law?"
"Your father in law, huh? He'll be thrilled to hear that."
"Oh, are you saying that because he hates me?"
"He doesn't hate you. He hates that my heart was broken, but he's happy we're together."
"Really?"
"Yup."
"Nice." She finished her coffee and took his hand over the table. "Are you ready to go?"
"I am."
In a few minutes they were at the hospital, both of them went to check on Bob and Kim was surprised to find him in a good mood and happy to see her. She even stayed a little while alone chatting with him while Adam talked to the doctors and the nurses told him all about how his father had spent the night.
The surgery was programmed to take place in an hour, and both Adam and Kim were asked to step out of the room in order to prep Bob.
"How are you?" She asked her boyfriend leaning against his shoulder and grabbing one of his hands in hers.
"Nervous."
"It's gonna be ok."
"I know." He turned to look at her and pressed his forehead against hers. "Thank you for being here."
"Any time, baby."
His soft lips surprised Kim by pecking hers, his hand cupped her cheek and his thumb lightly rubbed it.
"Listen, I'm going to call Kate and keep her on the loop of what's going on."
"Ok, take your time. I think I'm going to ask the nurses about the blood donning thing."
"Sure?" He wasn't all that thrilled with the idea.
"Yes."
"Ok, I'll see you here in a little bit then. Text me if you need me."
"You too."
Adam was back in the chairs outside his father's room waiting for Kim to come.
"That was fast." He was surprised to see her walk towards him so soon. "Are you ok?"
"Yes, I'm good."
"Sure?"
"Yeah, my ego is bruised though. They didn't let me donate."
"Why?" Concern tinted his question.
"Something about a medicine that I'm taking." She answered lightly.
"What medicine?" He furrowed his brows now.
"Something for my skin. It's nothing." Kim placed her hand on his knee trying to make him relax, but the look on his face didn't change.
"Kim, should I be worried?"
"No babe, trust me. It's nothing. Seriously." She closed the distance between them and kissed his lips. "What you should do is focus on what's important and that is waiting for your dad to get out of the OR room."
"Ok, but you know you can tell me anything, right?"
"Yes sweetheart. I know."
