I couldn't believe it's already Christmas Day!
"Kaylee, are you still asleep?" I asked in a low voice.
"No, too excited," Kaylee whispered back.
"Same here," I said.
"We can whispered on who can go first while we wait," whispered Kaylee.
It was 7:00 am. We only talk low when everyone is still in bed. We always open presents at around 9:00 am. We wish we could open them now. When we were little, we would get up in the middle of the night and check on the gifts to see what we were getting and would act to be surprised the following day.
The youngest goes first, then the triplets (youngest to oldest), D.J. is two minutes older, so Mario goes first, and us. Even though I'm a minute older than Kaylee, we would take turns to go first to open our Christmas presents. Same with the stockings.
That's what we do. D.J. complains that he had to open last. We never had a fight at all. We do set a good example for him. We always tell him to be patient like Mario. He is tough on Mario who moved into our room shortly after we moved here because he couldn't take it anymore. We didn't blame him. He's cleaner than D.J. who has a messy room often.
We decided I can open gifts first since she did that on our birthday.
"And, I'll open the stocking first," whispered Kaylee.
"Deal," I said as we shook hands on it.
Everyone else got up an hour later. We went out there to have breakfast.
"You kids can get dressed before opening the gifts," said Mom.
"Okay. We always did it that way," said Kaylee.
"Your grandparents are coming over this afternoon for lunch," said Mom. "Oh, they're going to stay here until after the New Year."
"Sweet," I said.
After we ate, we went to get dressed. After everyone was ready, we went to gather around in the living room. When it was our turn, D.J. wasn't happy about me to be the first one to be opening my gifts.
"That's not fair," said D.J.
"That's the way it is," said Kaylee.
"We compromise to take turns. We don't fight over it like you do. Mario waits patiently. Lead by example. You don't hear him complain," I said.
"That's right," said Mom.
"Take lessons from your older sisters," said Dad.
"And, Mario," I added.
After we open our gifts, we did our stockings. Kaylee went first like we planned.
"See how they work things out, D.J.?" asked Mom.
"We do the same thing on our birthday," I said.
After all that, we went to put our new things in our rooms. We helped Mario with his things. A few hours later, the doorbell rang as I went to answer. It was Nana and Pops.
"Merry Christmas," I said.
"Merry Christmas," said Nana.
"We got gifts for you kids and Mary Anne," said Pops.
"That's so cool to thought about her," said Kaylee.
"We can open them," said Mom.
We opened our gifts. We had matching sweaters. I have the Elves and Kaylee have Snowman. I have black jeans and Kaylee have tan jeans. All the others enjoyed their presents, too.
"Thanks," we both said.
"Is Mary Anne coming over to join us?" asked Pops.
"She can't. She's having family over for Christmas. Marci, Kathi, and Patti are going over since they couldn't make it last night or the night before," said Kaylee.
"No problem," said Nana.
"I can bring them over to her today," said Pops.
"Okay. You can go do that now, Dad. Lunch is not ready yet," said Mom. "We're having chicken. It'll be ready in an hour."
"Wonderful, I'll be right back," said Pops as he left.
"I wonder what they got her," said Kaylee.
"Me, too," I said.
Ten minutes later, Pops returned. "Mary Anne loved her gifts."
"What did you get her?" I asked.
"I got another sweater, but it has Santa on it and blue jeans," said Pops.
"Oh, nice," said Kaylee.
"She said thank you, Ginny," said Pops.
"It's our pleasure," said Nana.
An hour later, lunch was ready to be served. It was very good and filling.
"We choose to stay over here tonight so we don't have to drive in the dark," said Nana.
"That's fine," said Mom.
"We already brought our bag with us just in case," said Pops.
That night, we had sandwiches for dinner. We do chips as a side. After we ate, we gathered around in the living room to watch a Christmas movie. Our favorite is A Christmas Carol. When we went to bed, we turned the couch into a bed for my grandparents to sleep there. That was neat.
