Third Person POV
Order after order was thrown by the royalties. Time was ticking, and within each second, Therondia was getting closer to Ahtohallan and Elsa did not like the sound of that idea. She could only wonder why they would reach that place.
Elsa chose a ship of hers by the harbour and ordered her men and women to prepare it. The sails were put on. The wheel was recalibrated. The food and drink were replenished. Probably the most important aspect, weaponry. They stocked up on gunpowder, cannon ammo, blades, and shields.
Of course, these weapons were not going to wield themselves. Elsa remembered that there were around thirty Therondian men and women that came to visit them. Thus, she ordered fifty of her soldiers to join the voyage.
Among those fifty people were his sister and Hiccup himself, who Elsa doubted whether or not he should come. However, after a bit of an argument, Hiccup managed to convince her.
After an hour of rushing here and there, the ship was finally stocked. Elsa stood on her position by the man who manned the helm, the wheel of the ship. Right next to her also stood General Mattias.
"General Mattias. Let's go," Elsa commanded, her hands placed behind her back.
"Very well," the general answered. "ALL HANDS TO STATIONS!"
Each crew heard the order and rushed over to their stations. Many hands undid the ropes that secured the sails. Some other secured other elements of the boat, such as the lifeboats, the landing plank, and the anchor.
Inside the hull were three men cranking the gear that secured the anchor. Among these three men was Hiccup Haddock himself. It was only by the time the anchor was fully retreated when the other two realised that it was Hiccup.
"Oh, Chief Hiccup! I don't think this is the job for you!" One of the Arendellian guards said, as he wiped the sweat off of his forehead.
Hiccup responded with a wave of a hand. "Nah, it's okay. I want to help."
"Well, I suppose crewing a ship is something you're very experienced at, after all," the other Arendellian guard replied.
Hiccup chuckled at the statement. "You're right."
Not long after, the ship began to move. Upon moving, the ship became the spectacle of the entire Arendelle kingdom. The news spread quickly that the Arendellian queens were going to go to Ahtohallan. The motivation was not revealed, so it became a gossip topic.
Many Arendellians gathered by the harbour and waved their hands to bid farewell to the ship. The ship was named "Mother Nature." By the bowsprit of the ship was sculptured a fine woman that 'spirited' the ship and her crew. It was the ship to honour the passing Queen Iduna. And now, the ship was going to Ahtohallan to chase after the Therondians.
The ship sailed past the watergate and banked to the right to follow along the fjord. North bound.
The wind was on the friendly side. Not too little, but not too harsh, either. Mother Nature was sailing seamlessly because of this. By the time everything was in order and deemed safe to leave, Elsa took her leave and headed to the hull. She walked past her crew and descended down the stairs that connected the deck and the hull. Once inside, she descended deeper down to the lower floor. Her target was insight by the time she reached it, sitting among boxes of suplies. It was the cell that kept Patchy and Sideburns. However, Hiccup was there, too, facing the two criminals.
"Hiccup," Elsa called. "You're here."
Hiccup turned to the source of the voice, revealing Bruni on his shoulder. "Ah, Elsa. What are you doing down here?"
"I could also ask you the same thing," Elsa asked back. "I want to ask these two about something."
"We might very well have similar questions to shoot, after all," Hiccup smiled and gave some space for her.
Elsa returned the smile and stood next to Hiccup, right in front of the standing Patchy and Sideburns. These two were much taller than both Elsa and Hiccup. They were muscular, too, honed by years of experience of wrongdoings. However, despite their tough demeanors, Patchy and Sideburns took a few steps backward to make space between them and the Ice Queen. Fear was not necessarily drawn on their expressions, but they were sure on guard.
Elsa crossed her arms. "I have a question. It's still the same question, actually. Do you guys really don't know anything about Ahtohallan?"
Patchy sighed. "No. All we know is that Lieutenant Xavier ordered us to grab Hiccup and return by dawn. Or they would leave us to Ahtohallan. That's all."
Hiccup took his turn to ask his question, "Why would he give you such a strict order?"
Sideburns answered this time, "Like hell we would know."
"How about Northuldra?" Elsa asked. "Do you know anything about it?"
The criminal brothers shared a glance, confusion drawn on their faces. "Nu uh," they simultaneously answered.
Elsa and Hiccup then exchanged a look. "Then how do they know…" Elsa asked, not even bothering to finish her sentence.
"So Xavier and his crew know very little then, which is a good thing," Hiccup concluded, snapping a finger. His idea did make sense in Elsa's mind.
"I guess so," Elsa responded.
"But why would they go there…" Elsa asked herself once again, grabbing her chin.
They became silent for the time being, each being lost in their own thoughts. Even Bruni was shaking his head. With very little information, Elsa was unable to conclude anything conclusive. Hence, she decided to dig about something else.
"Alright, moving on," Elsa turned to Patchy and Sideburns again. "One of you mentioned another witch. What was that about?"
It was Patchy who said such thing. He was unsure whether or not to spill that information. Luckily, Elsa caught that and the time he was taking to contemplate. To demand an answer, the Ice Queen grabbed one of the bars of the cell. From inside her grasp grew tiny icicles. Hiccup and Bruni were taken slightly by surprise upon seeing such threat.
"I'm running out of patience," Elsa declared.
Patchy's eyes widened. "Alright, alright! I'll talk! Just… don't do that."
Elsa glared at him and let go of the bar, leaving a patch of icicles on it. "Talk."
Patchy exhaled a relieved sigh before answering, "Ugh… There's a Therondian witch as well… she wields lightning."
Silence filled the air. As if a lightning just struck Hiccup and Elsa, but there was not any. They were simply shocked to hear the information.
"There's another one… like me?" Elsa asked.
"Yes," Sideburns answered. "She's around your age, too, I think. But she manipulates lightning."
Elsa and Hiccup exchanged another look. They seemed nervous on the outside, but inside, fear was building up. Even for Elsa, who could also manipulate ice.
"Is she onboard the ship we're chasing after now?" Hiccup asked.
Both Patchy and Sideburns shook their heads as in 'no.'
"Did she also take part in the raid of Berk?" Hiccup asked again.
Sideburns answered, "Yes, but we don't think we saw her during the raid."
"Does she have a name?" Elsa asked.
"It's… Cassandra. Lady Cassandra," Sideburns answered.
"Cassandra…" Hiccup murmured and looked up to Elsa. "Does that ring a bell?"
Elsa shrugged and shook her head.
"Tell me what you know about her," Elsa demanded.
"I'm afraid we're gonna have to disappoint you again on that front," Patchy answered. "The lady rarely comes out to the field. Only General Drago can command her and he rarely uses her. Last time we saw her out on the field was months ago. She was taken to Berk, but I don't know whether Drago even commanded her to come out of her chamber."
"You guys sure are informative," Hiccup sassed, crossing his arms.
"What do you think? We're just privates among many others. We just follow orders," Patchy retorted.
Elsa was about to reply when a familiar voice sounded from the stairs, "Maybe it's just an Arendellian thing, but we brief our soldiers of where we're going, pal. Do you guys not know anything at all? Perhaps even gossip?"
It was Anna. She descended down the stairs with a stern face. It turned out that she had been listening for a while.
Hiccup's POV
Anna. Of course, it had to be her.
I asked, "How long have you been there?"
"When these two spoke of the other witch in question," She casually answered. Her stern casualness was something out of the ordinary. Considering what just happened between the two of us, I got distracted easily, especially when she stopped to stand next to me and I saw that pair of lips. Right away, I turned away to focus.
"Tell us something or there'll be no dinner for you two!" Anna threatened. While she could not threaten the duo with any magical power, the no-dinner threat seemed to work. Patchy clicked his tongue in irritation.
"Okay okay… geez… hmm…" Patchy flicked a finger at his brother's shoulder. "Brother, try to remember something when we last saw her in the flesh."
"Ugh… I'll try… Um…" Sideburns hummed for a while.
I asked, "When you two last saw her, where were you?"
Patchy looked up. "We were training among other soldiers in Therondia. We were told to grab some equipment from the storage. When we grabbed 'em, that's when we saw her. Drago was there, overseeing her while she was zapping some targets."
"Drago trains her?" Elsa asked.
Sideburns shrugged and answered, "In a way. Anyway, we stayed there for a while. I remember as she cast her magic… she always seemed… exhausted? Perhaps borderline in pain? For comparison, you barely broke a sweat when you destroyed our cart," he gestured at Elsa.
All of us processed that information for a while without a word.
Elsa turned to me and her sister, "I can't exactly extract anything out of that… What about you guys?"
I shrugged and Anna did the same thing. Elsa then looked at Bruni on my shoulder.
"Bruni?"
I looked down to the fire spirit, who merely licked his eyeball in response. Elsa sighed at the sight.
"Very well, I suppose I'll come up with more questions later," Elsa said, turning around to the stairs. Her body language was cold and stern, there was no way Anna did not notice that.
"You got any more questions for us?" Patchy asked. I turned to him and pondered for a moment. I did want to ask about the raid, but I felt that privacy was in order. There was Anna with me, and I did not really want her to listen to my questions.
Thus, I shook my head. "No. I'm done," I poked Anna by the arm. "Anna?"
"I've actually been eavesdropping since the very beginning, so I'm pretty content for now," she slightly smiled. "Good job boys. Dinner's on me," Anna sarcastically declared. Being the queen and the owner of the ship, of course dinner was always going to be on her.
Either way, the criminal brothers sighed in relief and sat down on the floor. With that, Anna and I left the floor. When we walked side by side, I was reminded by that very event.
'Damn it…' I cursed under my breath.
"Hiccup?"
Anna stopped on her track, gazing at me with a curious look. "You good?"
To see her so chill and to feel completely the opposite of her demeanour was laughable for me. It felt unfair that I was the only one who kept thinking about that thing unwillingly.
"I'm good, I'm good," I replied, trying to implement a relaxed tone in my voice. Whether or not it worked, only Anna knew.
"Elsa should be in the office now with Mattias, Honeymaren, and Ryder. You should come. Let's talk strategy," Anna invited. Her proposal sounded very reasonable, so I saw no reason to reject it.
"Alright."
The three of us, including Bruni, walked up the stairs up to the deck. Once we reached it, we were greeted by the views of the range of mountains adorning the fjord. The last time I was on the fjord, I was inside a cell and could not see much. To see, no, to be on the fjord itself without any visual limitation was pleasing.
We walked past other crewmates to the door by the poop deck. Upon entering it, I found myself in the said office. Anna said it was an office, but it was combined with a bedroom. There were three bunk beds on the left, front, and right ends of the room. In the middle of the room sat a large desk with a map that displayed what Arendelle knew of the geographic world around the kingdom. Around the map stood important figures: Elsa, Honeymaren, Ryder, General Mattias, and Birta the Reindeer. It almost seemed that the reindeer was listening to whatever Elsa was briefing.
Anna and I walked over to the desk and filled the empty spaces. Anna chose the space next to her sister and mine the one next to Ryder. Bruni jumped off my shoulder to land on the map, reading it thoroughly.
"... Do you think they have a map of Northuldra?" Elsa asked, looking at her general.
"I think we can assume that they do, Queen Elsa," the general answered. "Choosing to go to Ahtohallan instead of Northuldra is quite the bold choice, after all. Whatever it is they're after."
"What could they be after, though?" Anna raised the question, looking over to her sister for an answer. "Elsa, you're the only one who has been there. What did you exactly find over there?"
Elsa crossed her arms. "Well… it's much like the song. 'A river full of memory,' though it's not exactly a river, that place possesses what I assume is… the oldest water to ever exist? Since water has been around since the dawn of creation, it 'contains' memory. That's why I could figure out what happened on the day the Forest was locked from the outside world. Ahtohallan 'recorded' that event."
I was dumbfounded by the explanation. Everyone else seemed to feel the same way, too.
"But even then…" Elsa raised her hand, a flurry of frost spinning around it. "I could only make Ahtohallan show me the past by my magic. Without my magic, Ahtohallan will just be an… island. With ice. Massive ice."
"Does it, though?" Honeymaren asked out of the blue. "I mean, I don't have a solid argument to counter that. But just because Elsa had her magic with her doesn't mean Ahtohallan would answer to her and only her."
Everyone hummed a simultaneous 'hmm.'
"I can see where you're coming from," Elsa answered.
A question popped inside my mind. "Elsa, have you never taken anyone else beside yourself to Ahtohallan?"
"Nope," Elsa answered.
I furrowed my brow. "Why?"
Ryder answered, "Yelena prohibited it. We deem Ahtohallan as a sacred place that none should access but Elsa."
I scoffed at the information. "Quite the privilege there, Elsa."
"Even I don't visit it too often, Hiccup. I've only visited it twice, so far," Elsa retorted. "It's only natural that we respect the place that could very well possess the entire history of the world as sacred."
I deemed that argument reasonable. Thus, I nodded my head. But then something else popped inside my mind.
"Perhaps… the lieutenant, what was his name?" I asked.
"Xavier," Anna answered.
"Xavier," I continued, "Seeks to find an answer about a certain past?"
Everyone on the table processed that thought for a moment.
I continued, "I think we can assume that they're seeking information at the moment. Information about the past. Whatever it is, it should benefit their kingdom in their pursuit of colonisation."
My listeners pondered in silence. Each of them nodded in approval slowly.
"Very well," Anna said, landing her palms on the map in front of her. "Let's talk strategy."
Our conversation lasted for another hour. We tried to cover as many possibilities with the factor that we knew that could affect our circumstances. Be it weather, time of the day, time of arrival, route. We sincerely wished Patchy and Sideburns could tell us more about the motivation of the visit, but we had to settle with what we had.
After that, Elsa and Anna proceeded to brief all the crewmates onboard. Seeing that I did not need to attend it, I made my way down the hull of the ship while everyone gathered on the deck.
While slowly making my way, I could hear Anna starting the briefing. There was almost nobody in the hull, except the two Therondians we kept in custody. Once again, I reached their cell and found them merely sitting while leaning against the bars, facing each other.
By the time I approached them, they turned to me. Their expressions screamed, 'You again?'
"Hello," I greeted. I did not receive any response.
I sat on the cold floor. "I wanna ask you guys about something."
Sideburns rolled his eyes away. "Didn't you say you're done with us?"
"I lied," I said. "I wanna ask about Berk… Why did Therondia raid Berk?"
The duo exchanged a look. Then Patchy replied, "To conquer, of course."
"Is that all there is to it?" I asked again.
They responded by nodding. It seemed genuine from the outside.
"Alright. But why Berk, specifically?"
Patchy and Sideburns shrugged simultaneously, and the latter responded, "I don't know."
I shook my head and looked down at the floor. At this point, I was tired with the limited amount of knowledge these two had.
"Well," Patchy continued, "There is, of course, the terrain of Berk itself. When we first arrived there, I was shocked to see the shape of the island. I imagine our king could really use that place well."
My chin lifted, curiosity taking over myself. "Who's your king?"
"King Adam. Adam the Great," Sideburns responded.
"Adam…" I breathed. "Tell me about him."
Sideburns shook his head, seemingly annoyed. "Look buddy. Let me just tell you about ourselves, so you will understand why we will answer your questions with more 'I don't knows.' What about that?"
I found his proposal weird, but I saw no harm in it. "Go ahead…"
Sideburns sighed in relief. "We just arrived at the kingdom five months ago. We tried to seek employment and found vacancies from the castle. Soldiers. We did not care much about what we would do, who we would fight, why we would fight, and so on. All we care about in the world is… a glass of rum for our drink and beefsteak for our food. This job fucking pays well, especially since we're so good at it."
That life principle was quite amusing. "Why are you good at it? Being a soldier?"
This time, Patchy replied, "We have a certain background that backed us up on that front. Either way, this job pays fucking well. High risk, high reward type of stuff. We couldn't care less of our king, queen, whatever!"
After listening to their background, I could see how they really were the type of blind mercenary. They were the type to only receive the name, objective, and money after the job was done. Was there really more knowledge to uncover from them? Possibly, but there might only be little.
But, my mind spoke of one more concern. I slowly stitched each word together mentally.
"I'm aware that I'm nobody to judge one's way of life…" I raised my chin, "But since you took the lives of my people, I will freely judge your decisions. Do you not have any bit of humanity?"
Naturally, my question took the two by surprise. I took no pause and continued, "You two took part in what seemed to be genocide according to my book. Berk had never attempted to colonise other nations. I've done my homework and I'm pretty sure my grandfather and his grandfather have never done anything like that as well. Why? Was it greed?"
I earned no response. Patchy and Sideburns remained silent while staring at me.
Growing more emotional, I rose on my feet. "Tell me. Did you not hesitate one bit when you took those lives? Not one single bit of pity? Did you have your eyes closed when you executed the Berkians?"
Still no response.
"HEY!" I slammed the bars with my hands. "ANSWER ME!"
The Therondian duo backed off a little by scooching backward. As if my senses were turned off for a brief moment, a tear dropped from my chin after making its way across my cheek. It was at that moment as well when I realised that my eyes were beginning to water.
My grasp over the bars tightened as I felt a twisting muscle on my chest. It pained me to go down the memory lane of what happened in New Berk, but my heart selfishly demanded to proceed. "D-Do you not know what it feels like to lose… your people? The people you're responsible for? The people you love!"
I sensed the fire within me burn wilder.
"The bloodbath, the loss, oh my fucking god–do you have the tiniest idea of how I feel?! To be the receiving end of your cold killing spree? Ohhh yess, you're fucking correct! High risk, high reward kind of thing! I bet your ass the reward is so sweet, isn't it?"
"Hahahah!... I imagine the amount of gold you'll receive after fully conquering my land will be abundant. Nothing like some sweet gold tainted in blood of innocent people, am I fucking right?! If anything, that just adds more value for you, doesn't it? You're lucky we still need you, you BASTARDS!"
"Hiccup!"
I heard the familiar feminine voice calling for me. Before I could turn around to see who it was, a familiar pair of arms wrapped around my torso and pulled me away from the cell bars. Anna.
She was panting, as if she rushed her way to here. She probably did. "I-I know you're hurting right now, but p-please…" She tightened her grasp around me. "Don't let your anger consume you… I-I'm here."
It was only then when I realised that my teeth were gritted. My palms were fisted. My shoulders were tense. My head was hurting. I was on the verge of losing it, and I had no idea that I was.
"C-Calm down…" Anna begged.
After that, I loosened my jaw. I opened my fingers. I dropped my shoulders. I let my rationale take over my course of action. To feel in control once again was relieving.
Anna sensed my being finally whole again. Thus, she let go and entangled her arm with mine. She led me to the stairs. "Let's get some privacy."
I liked the sound of that idea. Thus, I nodded. "L-Let's."
The two of us ascended the stairs. Once reaching the upper hull floor, there were other crewmates staring at us. Their expressions were drawn with curiosity, shock, and nervousness.
I should have known that my outrage would draw attention.
We ignored the attention and walked up the stairs to the deck. There, familiar figures welcomed us. Elsa, Honeymaren, Ryder, and Mattias. They seemed mostly concerned with me.
I stopped on my track. Anna, who had her arm around mine, was caught a little surprised by my abruptness.
My eyes rolled to each of my companions and to the remaining crewmates on the deck.
"I-I'm sorry for the commotion," I stated. I did not wait for a response and turned to Anna, signalling her to lead me the way once again. She received the message and led me to the cabin.
Inside, there was only Birta, who was asleep by the corner of the room. There was not exactly a space for us to have some privacy. At least, according to what I saw.
Anna then led me to the bunk beds on the left side of the room.
"Climb up. To the upper bed," She instructed, gesturing at the ladder. I was a little perplexed but I followed her command and climbed up. She followed along. Once she was up on the bed with me, Anna pulled a curtain that I did not know was there. The curtain shut the entire perimeter of the bed. We were now alone.
Anna turned to me with worried eyes while sitting with crossed legs.
"Are you okay?" She asked. Her hands landed on my forearms, shoving them in reassurance.
"I'm okay… if anything, it's thanks to you," I admitted.
"How so?"
I scoffed a little. "You calmed me down. I feel I would've lost myself had you not interfered."
Anna exhaled what seemed to be a relieved sigh. I could not clearly tell. "You had me worried there…"
We both were silent for a moment. Then, Anna put her hands on mine, raising them.
"Hiccup… I… I want to ask something from you… I need you to promise me…"
A pause.
"Don't… ever let your rage consume you. Please. I've had a traumatic experience with my sister regarding that. I've seen the worst of it, and I don't want you to become another victim of loose anger."
Anna mentioning her sister caught my curiosity. However, when I was about to ask about it, she continued on.
"I… I myself don't know the steps to do it, but y-you should focus on healing these scars. I'm talking about the mental ones! I-I don't know how, but I'm more than willing to help you in the process. J-Just concentrate on that. And on the mission! Don't ever, please, for the love of god lose yourself. I know damn well I'm not one to talk. But if it's my only wish from you…"
Anna planted a kiss on my hand and placed her forehead on the same spot she kissed.
"Please…"
Silence. I merely stared at her, mostly taken aback by her wholeheartedness.
After a brief moment, Anna lifted her chin to face me again.
"Y-You don't even need to think about my confession! Forget that! Just… focus on yourself."
Oh Anna. After that kiss, how could I possibly not fall even deeper?
I warmly smiled at her. "... I will."
Anna returned the smile with her own in the same manner. Now, I could tell for sure that she was relieved.
I let go of her hands. Briefly, Anna looked like she did not want to let go. But I pulled her into a hug. In this hug, I embraced her for a while. I made sure my face was buried in her shoulder, my left hand was caressing her back, and my right hand was stroking her hair.
"Thank you, Anna…" I whispered.
I sensed her hands wrapping around my torso in return. She embraced me back.
Neither of us let go for a good five minutes. At least, that was the amount of time I sensed that had passed. Seeing so, I initiated first. I let go of her. Then, she did the same, though not instantly.
I finally got to see her expression once again. Anna almost seemed like she had just woken up from a slumber. She was silent throughout the entire hug, after all.
"Were you asleep?" I shot.
Anna rubbed her eyes with a hand. "I… was sleepy."
I chuckled at her response. "Unbelievable."
"Ahaha…"
I exhaled a sigh. "By the way… I also owe you an apology. I'm guessing the briefing cut short when you guys heard me screaming like a lunatic?"
"Ah… um…" Anna cleared her throat. "Yeah… I mean, right now, Elsa must be resuming from where I last left off. So it's alright. I'm sure everyone else understands how you're feeling."
I scratched my hair. "Well… not sure about that. But alright. I'll just pretend that it never happened."
Anna smirked at that. "Yeah, easy. Just be casual."
Seeing that she could pull a smirk was soothing. I was glad that she was herself again after making her unnecessarily worry over me.
"Oh, that reminds me…" I said. "You mentioned your sister… and your experience with rage. What was that about?"
"Ah… that…" Anna looked away, perhaps feeling uneasy. She shoved her forearms altogether.
"If you don't feel comfortable sharing it, it's okay," I assured.
Anna rolled her eyes up to see mine. "Umm… did you notice it? How Elsa's demeanour as of late has been… stern? I mean, she can be stern when she needs to be. How do I label it… um, oh! Cold!"
I chuckled at the use of the pun. "No better way to describe it. I do. I feel that she is no longer… hesitant to threaten with her power. She wasn't the kind of person that strikes me as someone who resorts to destruction."
"She never was… until… last year," Anna said.
I raised a brow. "Did something happen?"
Third person POV
Darkness finally blanketed the sky. The Mother Nature ship was in the middle of the Dark Sea, en route to Ahtohallan. Some crewmates were in charge of sightseeing in every direction to look for any ship or any land. Some were waiting for their shift.
The voyage in the middle of the Dark Sea was terrifying. Or at least, that was what the crewmates thought it was going to be. The weather was luckily on their side. That resulted in a smooth sailing.
However, with the night falling in, visibility was strictly limited. The people onboard had placed lanterns and torches here and there to emit lighting. It was thanks to Bruni who kept every lantern lit. His fire burned true and bright.
But of course, they were just lanterns and torches. The man on the crow's nest could not see anything in front of the ship. He could only rely on his compass to ensure that they were still heading north. Up ahead, there was nothing but darkness and the cold wind.
However, something caught his attention from afar. A turquoise light. It was the colour that his queen described Ahtohallan as.
"LAND HO! Ahtohallan in sight!" He sounded. He then proceeded to ring the bell placed on the mast of his crow's nest.
The signal woke everybody onboard. One figure that was never asleep was Elsa, who stood her ground by the helm. She searched for any turquoise light from afar and found it immediately. Keeping the light on track, Elsa steered the wheel to make it face dead ahead to that light. The light was still small, almost like a speck on the dark horizon, indicating there was still a big gap to cover.
"Nokk… or Gale … Please show up, now…" Elsa begged under her breath.
It had been her attempt to call for the Water Spirit, Nokk, for the past two hours. She wanted to ask for his help to help Mother Nature sail ahead faster. Elsa also attempted to call for Gale but to no avail.
"Here goes my vocal cord," Elsa cleared her throat.
"Aa-ohhh~ Aa-oohh~"
Elsa sounded her tone, the very tone that called for her to Ahtohallan. Her voice echoed through the air but only to a small radius. She could sing well, but screaming? That is a different case.
Nobody responded to the call. The night breeze remained the same. The water remained calm. Elsa could already feel her throat drying up after that last call. The cold temperature was not helping either. Even as the ice witch herself, she was not entirely immune to the cold.
"Els, let me do the calling after this."
Elsa turned around to the source of the voice. Honeymaren. She gave her a doubted look.
"Don't give me that look. I'm from Northuldra, remember? I've been around Gale and Nokk longer than you have," Honeymaren explained.
Elsa deemed the explanation fair. "Fair enough. Give it a try, Hun."
Honeymaren punched her chest twice and prepared her vocal cord.
"Aa-ohhh~ Aa-oohh~"
Elsa was slightly taken aback by her partner's voice. She had never heard her sing and now she was willing to experience that.
"How about that?" Honeymaren placed her hands on her hips, looking proud.
Elsa smirked at the proud Northuldran. "I'll compliment you when Nokk and Gale–"
PHEEEWWWWW–
The wind abruptly picked up, whistling in the process as well. Oddly enough, the wind 'chirped' afterwards, as if it was a sign of enthusiasm. It was a trait that Elsa and Honeymaren were very fond of.
"Gale!" Elsa called.
SPLASHHHH…
"Do you hear that?" Honeymaren asked, pointing her index up.
"The water? Could it be?" Elsa walked over to the edge of the ship. She observed the water right beneath her. There was a lantern hung on the outer hull of the ship that provided her some lighting. She focused her attention on the one spot that the lantern lit.
Sure enough, a magical water horse dashed past the ship underwater.
"Neighhh!"
"There's Nokk!" Elsa exclaimed. "We have both of them here! Gale, Nokk–WHOAH!"
"What the–WHOAAA–"
"Hang ooonnn!"
"What's going on?"
Before Elsa could even make a request to both the Wind spirit and the Water spirit, the ship suddenly picked up speed. Due to this, Elsa and many other crewmates lost their balance and fell on the floor. A gust of wind suddenly blew the sails forward. Add that with the torrent of water pushing the ship from behind, Mother Nature was sailing at its fastest speed ever thanks to Nokk and Gale.
"Honey–grab the wheel! Make sure we don't tilt over!" Elsa requested, slowly standing up on her feet.
Honeymaren quickly grabbed the wheel and stabilised the ship. "Got it!"
"SHIP IN SIGHT! DOCKED BY THE SHORE!"
The man on the crow's nest once again exclaimed. His loud voice conveyed the message clearly. General Mattias reached the poop deck where Elsa and Honeymaren were. Upon hearing the message, the general helped Elsa stand up and asked, "My queen, requesting permission to command all to arm themselves."
Elsa nodded. "Granted."
With that, Mattias looked over to the deck. "ALL HANDS–"
"WAITT!"
The man in the crow's nest suddenly shouted. Everyone halted themselves in the tracks.
"I SEE TWO SHIPS. TWO THERONDIAN SHIPS DOCKED BY THE SHORE!"
