Hermione returned to her dormitory. She lay awake the whole night, her mind preoccupied with the symbol she had seen on the creature's fur. She couldn't shake off the sense of foreboding that had settled deep in her gut, and she knew she had to do something about it. But what could she do? Who could she turn to?
After much contemplation, she finally decided to seek help from someone she trusted the most - Professor McGonagall. The next morning, she woke up early, dressed quietly, and left the dormitory without discussing the incident with Harry and Ron. The halls of Hogwarts were eerily quiet, and Hermione felt as if the castle was holding its breath, waiting for something to happen.
When she reached Professor McGonagall's office, she found the door slightly ajar. She knocked gently and entered, finding the professor already seated at her desk, lost in her book. McGonagall looked up, surprised to see Hermione so early.
"Good morning, Miss Granger. What brings you here at this early hour?" she inquired.
Hermione took a deep breath and began to explain everything. She spoke about the strange creature and the symbol she had seen on its fur. She described the whispers and the sense of foreboding that had consumed her.
As Hermione spoke, Professor McGonagall listened intently, her expression growing more and more serious. When Hermione finished, the professor leaned back in her chair, steepling her fingers.
"This is very grave, Miss Granger," she said in a low, stern voice. "Follow me."
Without another word, McGonagall stood up and led Hermione out of her office. They walked briskly through the halls of Hogwarts, Hermione struggling to keep up with the professor's long strides. McGonagall led her down a flight of stairs and into a dark, musty dungeon.
Hermione shivered as they entered the dungeon. It was cold and damp, and the air was thick with the scent of mold and mildew. As her eyes adjusted to the dim light, she saw that the dungeon was filled with statues of extinct creatures. They were so lifelike that Hermione couldn't help but feel a sense of awe and wonder.
The professor turned to her and said, "What I am about to reveal to you is a secret of the highest order . You must not speak of it to anyone, not even Mr. Potter and Mr. Weasley. Do you understand?"
Hermione nodded, "I understand, Professor."
As Hermione looked around the dungeon, she saw that the statues were all different sizes and shapes. There was a towering figure that appeared to be a giant, frozen in time with a fierce expression on its face. Nearby, a smaller statue of a winged creature with sharp talons and a beak stood perched on a rocky outcropping.
Further down the line, Hermione noticed a statue of a creature that looked like a cross between a lion and a dragon, with scales the color of emeralds and sharp, jagged teeth. She couldn't help but wonder what it would be like to see these creatures alive and moving.
But then she noticed something odd. One of the statues was different from the others. It was covered in matted fur, and its eyes seemed to follow her as she moved. Hermione gasped as she realized that it was the creature she had seen in the Forbidden Forest.
"That's Skarooth," McGonagall said, her voice barely above a whisper. "An extinct creature, or so we thought. But it seems that Skarooth has come back to life."
"I don't understand," Hermione said, her voice shaking. "How is this possible?"
"That is what we are trying to figure out," McGonagall replied. "We believe that someone has somehow managed to bring Skarooth back to life using dark magic."
Hermione felt a chill run down her spine at the mention of dark magic. She had always known that it existed, but she had never come face to face with it before. The thought of someone using it to bring an extinct creature back to life was unsettling.
"What do we do?" Hermione asked.
"We need to find out who is behind this," McGonagall said. "And we need to stop them before they do any more harm."
Hermione nodded, her mind racing with questions. Who could be behind this? And why? She knew that she had to find out more about Skarooth and the dark magic that had brought it back to life. She had a feeling that this was just the beginning of something much bigger and more dangerous than she could ever have imagined.
