Chapter 31: Chiaki

"Sir… we have a problem"- One of the doctors of the Togami company said to Kijo. Who clearly was not in the mood. Not only he was in a huge global crisis after the reveal of the existence of Makoto in the company, which didn't affect his fortune much, but also the fact that the Neo- exorcist tried to target and kill him, making him have to kill a human for the first time in his life, and also the fact that since Makoto punched his desk, he had no desk, which annoyed him greatly. He looked angrily at the doctor – "What is it?"- he said coldly, shocking the doctor and scaring him a bit – "Kijo I understand your anger, but try not to scare your workers"- Jin said calmly. Kijo then took a really long breath and calmed himself a bit, before looking at the doctor again.

"Excuse my behavior"- He said, surprising him, the behavior of Kijo turned 180 degrees and he was calm and composed – "So?"- Kijo asked – "oh, sorry! Cough* Cough* There is a problem in the medical department, Chiaki Nanami disappeared"

Makoto was sitting in front of a tree. The same tree where he killed Silen. Ever since that day he had simply… zoned out. He no longer cared about anything. The world just felt grey and purposeless. He would wake up every morning, go eat silently and leave before anyone appeared. Everyone that knew him feeling the pain of abandonment from him and affecting them in their way.

Byakuya Togami had started to become colder and more calculative. He spent all his time working on how to fix the human relations with the people in protest against the Togami company.

Kyoko spent most of her time working on investigating the Neo-exorcist, and Dr. Tsesuna's base. Trying to find a way to bring them down, but at the same time, she desperately needed a way to not feel the pain she was feeling because of how Makoto was now.

Sayaka, on the other hand, was taking it hard. She did try to help him. She worked hard to make him happy, and for a while, it was working, he was enjoying a normal life. Only for all of it to crash down to the ground by a group of assholes. And this affected her work a lot. Although she kept her façade perfectly while acting as an idol. Her other friends had noticed that she would spend a long time crying in the bathroom.

Maki felt weird. She didn't know what to do anymore, now that she no longer had a reason to do anything… she too fell lost, Mukuro just tried to ignore it, to no avail, and Mondo fell into a rage. Mukuro, Maki, and he were still working as reapers and exorcists, but under another captain. Captain Kyosuke.

Makoto was looking and remembering the moment again and again – "Makoto it was not your fault" – Ezio said. Makoto looked sad – "Ezio… can you please leave? I don't want to talk right now"- He said. Ezio was going to interject, but she noticed it wouldn't work and simply disappeared- "Ok"

Makoto could feel it all. The blood covering his face. Her look before she died. It filled his heart with despair. He looked at himself and could only see a monster – "You know it's pretty sad seeing you silent after finally being able to talk"- he then heard a familiar voice and looked around, his eyes widened as he looked at Chiaki there smiling at him – "Chiaki?"

Makoto's face showed pure shock. After she was kidnapped by the Neo-exorcist, she had fallen into a coma. And after experimenting and investigating what was happening to her… they had found she had become a user of Anti-Viral weapon – "Hi Makoto"- Makoto immediately felt sour as the guilt of what had happened to her sunk in with all his other problems – "I'm sorry"- he said,

"what do you mean?" – She said confused before he looked away – "Don't you know what happened to you?"- he asked her and she sat on the floor – "Yes I know… it's about this isn't it?"- she said summoning a weird floating white and blue liquid on her palm – "I remember everything" – She said, Makoto then noticed she was shaking a bit – "it was really painful"- she said a little sadly as well. The guilt was eating Makoto's soul.

"I'm sorry"- he said with a face of pure despair – "It's because of me that you had to suffer that. They wanted to hurt me and hurt you in the process. It's all my fault. Maybe everyone is right and the world would have been better if I…"- but before he could finish, he felt her flicking his head hard. To the point it hurt – "Do not say that"- she said mad, surprising him. He couldn't recall the last time he had seen her this mad before. And although she was mad… he had to admit she still looked cute, puffing her cheeks while pouting – "Makoto it's not your fault"- she said, Makoto looked shocked but almost immediately turned sour – "but Chiaki. It is all my fault. The creation of the ghouls, the creation of the exorcist, your suffering and Silen death… it all happened because I became a Vampire… if I hadn't lived in that experiment, none of this would have happened"

"But a lot of more kids would have died"- she said, shocking him – "Makoto, it is true that if you hadn't survived probably none of this would have happened. But at the same time, dr. Tsesuna would have kept kidnapping children to experiment on them, and eventually, it would still have happened" – She said - "the world ended like this, but none of it is your fault. You were just placed in the middle of it. You didn't choose to get kidnapped, you didn't choose to become a vampire, and you didn't make them torture and experiment on me"- Makoto was surprised, how did she know all of this just after waking up. She clearly understood his reaction and smiled - "I heard everything after I woke up. How they took me to make Izuru fight you, how they experimented on me, how you almost died once, and how you had to kill someone to defend yourself"- Makoto looked sad – "that's why I am here"- she said as he looked confused – "I knew you would try to be alone and blame yourself, but Makoto… you did nothing wrong"- she said, his eyes widened as he felt her words striking hard – "Makoto, no matter what happened, you always strike to help others. You fight and try your best to keep others safe… that is how you are. You chose to fight ghouls, even when you didn't need to, you protected Maki and gave her a new chance in life, you saved Mondo when he was young, you have protected countless and countless people, just because you wanted to protect them, even when everyone hated you, you created bonds with people. Because that is how you are. And yes I understand that it hurts, I understand that you feel guilty that you had to hurt and kill someone. But it's not possible to protect everyone, and sometimes to protect other you have to hurt"- She then looked at him smiling, while tears fell from his eyes

"But never blame yourself for doing what you believe is right, and never feel guilty for living. Because if you died we would all feel extremely sad… especially your big sister Chiaki"- she said before she looked surprised as Makoto quickly hugged her and started baffling out crying. She smiled with compassion and hugged him back – "it's ok to cry."

Makoto cried for almost thirty minutes before he started calming down – "you feeling better?"-she asked him making him blush embarrassed nodding – "that's good"- she said and Makoto smiled a little bit – "so how about I get us some ice-cream"- she asked, Makoto then smiled and nodded.

Chiaki then left, leaving Makoto alone – "Ezio? Are you there?" he then asked out loud. Ezio then appeared floating – "I'm sorry I pushed you away"- he said a little sad – "I know I pushed you away, because of selfish reasons. I'm…"- Makoto then felt a couple of lips on his. She was kissing him. Although she was spectral to others, to him she felt 100% real. After the kiss Makoto looked surprised – "don't you ever do that again"- she said before disappearing. Makoto then smiled softly before standing up – "I should go to where Chiaki is"- he said before standing his body for the first time in a while felt light like a huge weight had disappeared from his shoulders.

He quickly walked until he found her who was holding two Ice-cream cones. She then noticed he was there and gave one to him – "Here"- Makoto looked a little confused, the ice-cream looked… interesting with all the colors of the rainbow. He tasted it and his eyes widened at all the flavors… it was too much it didn't taste that good – "do you like it? It's my favorite"- she asked smiling and a little excited. Makoto didn't want to hurt her feelings so he nodded. Exciting her- "see! It's good"- she said enjoying her ice-cream and Makoto did the same to less enjoyment.

"so what do you want to do now?"- asked Chiaki to him, confusing him – "well I am here to help you so what do you want to do?"- she asked and he looked a little confused – "well we could go to buy comic books or videogames… or maybe an arcade?"- he said a little embarrassed, surprising her – "you like videogames!?"- she asked excitedly making him blush, after all, it was surprising that with handling school and reaper business he would still have enough time to play games – "well I do enjoy them"- Makoto admitted. She then grabbed them – "well then let's go while we can!"- she said as she pulled him – "not like there is a long time yet" – she whispered very softly.

They both got to the mall and walked to an arcade that Chiaki knew, where they started playing videogames. First, they played Blazeblue, which Makoto lost over 25 times, then street fighter, to the same result, Dance Dance Revolution, he still lost, and even house of the dead, which they won in record time.

Makoto knew that she was accepted in Hope's Peak as the Ultimate Gamer, but wow, he never knew how good she was, she was setting record after record in all videogames, even gathering a small crowd of people watching them play.

After they finished and Chiaki wrote a couple of signatures to her fans. They went to a game store. To Makoto's surprise, the store knew about Chiaki. Makoto learned there that she apparently was also a famous tournament winner, in almost every single game, a streamer and a tester. So even though she said she would pay for the things she bought. The store rejected it and instead showered them in gifts of consoles and games. And they left with a large load of boxes and bags full of games. Which she managed to convince them to deliver to her room

After that, the night finally started to settle in and they decided to go eat some sushi. They were both enjoying themselves and she looked really happy. But Makoto felt way better than starting the day. He felt calm and happy for the first time in a while.

They both then finally finished and started to go back to housing. They were walking to it, when Makoto stopped on his tracks, confusing her – "Chiaki… what should I do?"- he asked and she noticed he was flushed red and embarrassed – "what should I tell to the others… I mean… I really… fucked it up… What should I do?"- he said and she giggled a little making him blush even harder.

"It's ok. I know they will be happy to see you this way. After all, they care for you"- she said smiling, Makoto smiled a little bit, before his eyes slit as his hyper senses activated. He dashed and grabbed Chiaki in a bridal style, saving her from a sniper shot – "Makoto?"- she looked at him and noticed he was mad, his vampire senses active. He was looking mad at one direction, and she looked at where he was looking and a couple of white and blue hooded Neo exorcists appeared – "We found you, monster"- Chiaki looked surprised as Makoto fell to his knees in pain. She looked and noticed a small wound on his arm, and a blue substance started spreading on his veins – "Makoto you are hurt!"- Chiaki said worried, but he shook his head – "don't worry about me! Just run!"- he said trying his best to keep the pain controlled – "Ohh she isn't going anywhere Mr. Monster she will die with you"- they said pulling their weapons. Makoto didn't know what to do until he saw Chiaki stand up surprising her – "Makoto stand, I'll heal you"- she said – "But Chiaki"- he said worried but she smiled widely – "It's ok, they can't harm me"- she said they then heard a sniper gunshot and everyone looked surprised as they saw the bullet stand right mid-air on her face – "they can't harm me"- She said, the iris of her eyes glowing blue and she picked up the bullet. The other Neo exorcist then tried to splash her with his sword made of AV only for it to turn into a liquid as it got near to her – "Leave… you have no chance"- she said the guy looked mad before smiling a little, as he pulled out a regular knife – "I don't know why the AV weapons don't work, but you are only human, we can still harm you with normal weapons"- he said as they got ready, Chiaki then looked at Makoto – "yes but can you do that to him?"- she said and Makoto suddenly felt a lot better, he looked at his wound and saw the blues streak retreating and coming out of his body – "She healed him?"- they said nervously as Makoto stood up now healed. The Neo exorcist looked shocked as they bot were staring at them – "Retreat… we can't win"- the leader said as they threw a smoke grenade and escaped. Makoto concentrated on the sniper, who also left. As the danger fled Chiaki's eyes turned normal and she fell to the ground – "Chiaki-san!" – he said holding her – "I guess that's it for me"- she said confusing and worrying him – "What do you mean?"- she then smiled

"I'm just like you Makoto. After they kidnapped me and experimented on me. And because my blood accepted the mutated version of yours I became the original user of AV. But since just like you can control those who have your blood, they feared I could control their AV. So they added an extra layer of protection, They mixed the original AV with a Sleeping Beauty poison, so I would sleep and stay unconscious, and they could get control of the AV"- Makoto looked shocked – "It took me a while… but I managed to hold the poison for a while. And stay awake for the whole day off today"- Makoto started crying – "But… then why?"- he asked her crying – "why help me? If you knew you weren't going to wake up again.. why help me? Izuru waited for you and I know you would be happy to have spent the day with him… so why me?"- he asked crying and she smiled.

"Because you needed it"- his eyes widened at the comment and looked at her – "I could have done a lot of things and enjoyed myself… but it wouldn't mean anything if I left my little brother alone and sad would it?"- she said and Makoto baffled crying – "Makoto, I'm not telling you to be a hero or a villain. Just be who you a…a…."- and she felled asleep – "Chiaki!"

"God damn it!"- Izuru said angrily as he punched the wall. They were in Chiaki's ER room. Him, Makoto, Maki, Mondo, Byakuya, Kyoko, and Mukuro. Makoto holding Chiaki's hand – "how dare Kazuo do that to her" -He said angrily. Kyoko was worried for both Chiaki and Makoto – "so what now?"- she asked everyone who looked worried and looked at Makoto. Makoto didn't know what to do. When to his surprise he felt something coming from under Chiaki's sheets and snuggle with him. A weird white bunny with blue streaks on her body. They all looked surprised at the bunny as Makoto picked it up. It looked attached to him. Makoto looked at the bunny and smiled before he looked determined – "I will fight"- he said surprising them

"But you are in suspension"- Byakuya said, Makoto turned around and smiled – "So… I don't have to fight as a reaper after all is not like being one will stop them from attacking me"- they all looked shocked – "I'm tired of this situation. I'm tired of people suffering and dying… so I'll make sure to do my best to stop it. Even if I have to go alone. I'll make sure to stop this" – Maki then walked forward – "well I'm not letting you go alone… after all, I'm one of your Dhampirs"- she said smiling, everyone except Izuru then nodded – "we are with you Makoto"- Byakuya said Makoto looked worried at him and Kyoko – "are you sure? You too could get in trouble with your parents because of this"- he warned them and they smiled – "believe us, you would be in even more trouble than us… and we can't leave you behind"- Kyoko said smiling, Makoto then looked at Izuru – "and you?"- he asked him. Izuru closed his eyes – "I'll work with you… after all, if they are targeting you, being with you increases the chances of finding Kazuo and beating him up"- Makoto smiled and nodded. Izuru then looked at the rabbit that Makoto was now holding – "so how are you going to name him?"- he asked and Makoto looked surprised before he got thoughtful

"Usami"

Makoto finally got to the front of his room with Usami now sleeping on his head. And to his surprise he noticed it was slightly open, he smelled inside and knew the smell of Sayaka, and tears? He also heard her sobbing. Makoto then walked in, and Sayaka turned around shocked, her face red and puffy for crying so long – "Makoto?"- she said shocked – "I'm sorry I know this is your room but…"- she didn't get to finish when she felt him hug him softly – "I'm sorry Sayaka… I made you cry. And for that I beg your forgiveness"- he said softly. Sayaka looked shocked before she turned around and kissed him. And the proceeded to punch him softly on his chest – "Idiot, Moron, Stupid!"- she said insult after insult and Makoto just stood there. After a couple of seconds, she then looked at him smiling softly as tears fell down her face – "I missed you" – he smiled she then looked confused making him confused

"Makoto where you got that rabbit?"
