Chapter 33: Learning and Fight

They started training that same day. Minato first went to Makoto – "Son, we will start with you. I heard you know at least know the bases of flash step isn't that right?"- he asked, Makoto then nodded – "Ok then I need you to go to the beach and buy me some lobsters, and you must only go on pure flash step"- he said shocking both, the nearest beach was about 200 kilometers (about 125 miles) away – "and get here before dinner"- he said Makoto just sighed and nodded before starting his pure flashstep marathon. After he left Minato looked at Sayaka – "ok for you training"- Sayaka just gulped, making him smile – "don't worry unlike him I know you don't have any formal training"- he said making her a little embarrassed – "I will teach you a step technique but it's different to the flash step"- He said as she attended closely. Only to see him disappear in front of her eyes – "This technique is called the silent step"- she heard behind her and after she looked her eyes widened as she saw him standing in mid water – "Unlike the Flash step which is a technique made to impulse by connecting to the earth, the silent step is a technique that slides on it, being able to basically reject the gravity and friction for a while, and being able to even stand on plain water"- he then disappeared again and appeared in front of her surprising her

"But before you can even try that, I need to teach you how to breath correctly"- she then looked confused – "you see the most important part of any martial arts it's the breathing. Those who know how to breath are able to fight"- he then pointed to a pathway around the temple – "for now just a simple jog around the dojo, do not overwork yourself, but don't walk"- he said surprising her – "wait… that's it?"- she asked and he laughed – "Ohh you'll see, it will more difficult that you think"- he then walked to the temple and sat inside.

Confused Sayaka started her jog, it couldn't be that difficult after all, even though she wasn't the top most athletic person she still was always exercising in order to keep her idol body. So a soft jog wouldn't tire her out. Or so she thought. She started jogging and it didn't took more than a minute before she was tired and out of air – "How… is this… possible?"- she asked after just one lap. She then fell forward only to be caught by Minato – "calm down Sayaka and breath slowly"- Minato said, Sayaka then started doing just that until she managed to calm her breath away.

"you see one of the requirements for a Moonlight-style dojo is that is located in a thin concentration of air. Although this hill isn't very high, the location, mixed with the plant life and everything else creates a low concentration of air, making it hard to breath"- he explained, she after she could talk again asked the reason why – "the reason being that it teaches our students how to breath correctly and how to efficiently move oxygen to their blood"- helped her fully stand – "so this will be your training, you will jog until you almost lose your breath and then you will sit and meditate to regain it again. Repeat this process every 2 hours so your body adapts and learns how to do it correctly"- she then asked why Makoto didn't do this training – "different schools require different breathing, Makoto has been fighting for so long that his body already adapted to fighting and breathing, you on the other hand haven't trained yourself"- she looked sad before he pet her head – "don't worry you'll learn"- he said smiling, making her blush. Were all the Naegi man so attractive and caring? – "ok continue"

For the last week Makoto and Sayaka continued their training every day Makoto would have to flash step marathon to a far away place and every day Sayaka would have to jog and meditate while Komaru looked starstruck over their training. Only for both to return extremely tired back to the housing, leaving everyone curious over what they were doing. They were in between of two classes, and while Makoto and Sayaka were going out to get some drinks, everyone else joined to talk – "maybe they are going every day to do perverted stuff"- Said Yasuhiro, confident in his theory, only for everyone to look at him and facepalm – "If they were then why would they leave. They can do that in their own rooms and also would decrease the chance of paparazzi catching Maizono on the act"- explained Celeste a little annoyed over having to explain everything to him – "What I find more interested is that they both manage to rank first in PE."- Leon said confused – "I mean both Makoto and Sayaka were always good at exercising, but the progress they have been doing has been amazing"- The others nodded – "I… I wo… wonder…. what… ar…. are they… doing"- Toko asked curious – "I believe they are learning martial arts"- Sakura says a little interested. And surprised everyone around – "are you sure?"- Hina asked a little confused

"I been watching how they have been reacting and how their breathing has changed. I'll probably ask them later if I can go see the practice"- She said interested. They looked confused not understanding what she meant – "I guess that would explain how Makoto is so ripped"- Hifumi then said thoughtful, catching the interest of all the girls – "what? you must be kidding, he looks like a squirt"- Celes said laughing a bit, making some of the other girls laugh as well, only to see the guys weren't laughing – "wait really?"- asked Hina a little surprised, she knew he was a fighter, but was he really that big of a deal? – "he is"- Junko said as she pulled her phone showing a picture of all the boys changing clothes after PE all of them half naked. But right in the middle was Makoto just out of the shower, wearing a towel on his lap covering his privates, but everything else was in full reveal. All the other girls blushed over the man meat that was Makoto. Hina was in a trance and Sakura was rather impressed, Toko didn't see to care that much, instead trying her best to see Byakuya. Celes couldn't deny the interest she had on Makoto. Maki and Kyoko had already seen Makoto like that but couldn't stop staring as well. But the most impressed was Mukuro who instead of watching his body, although his body was rather attractive, instead what caught her eye was his pure smile, which made her blush and smile a well. Junko noticed this and grin – "WHY DO YOU HAVE THAT?!"- screamed Taka as he tried to take the phone only for her to react and stop him – "THAT'S AGAINTS SCHOOL REGULATION!"- he reproached, Junko grinned, before looking innoncently

"Mukuro asked me to do it…"- she said acting like a innocent girl that was caught with her hand in the cookie jar. Surprised everyone looked at Mukuro, who was as shocked as everyone. Leon then smiled seductevly – "Oh my cute Mukuro kitty if you wanted to see more of me you should have just asked"- he said seductevly. Trying to get closer to her only for her to beat him down and pout – "Sorry sis… I was just kidding"- Junko said as she looked the savage beating Leon just received – "But I wonder what are they doing"- Junko said. She wanted to know what were they doing and not telling her. Maybe it was time to punish Makoto

"Naegi-kun, Sayaka-kun!"- Makoto and Sayaka heard behind them. They then turned around as they saw Sakura and Hina walking to them – "Oh good afternoon Sakura, Hina"- Makoto said smiling. Sayaka noticed almost immediately Hina blushed over his smile, Sayaka only sighed – "what is it?"- Makoto said. Sakura looked determined – "I wish to se your martial arts training. If I may"- Sakura said surprising them for a while, but not that much since Sakura was the ultimate martial artist… it was a question of when she would find out – "are you sure? We are learning a sword-style martial art. I thought you were a hand to hand one"- Makoto asked extremely confused making Sakura laugh – "While it is true that I learned unarmed martial arts. For me I appreciate and can see the beauty of all martial arts, be it with weapons or not, since they all connect to the meaning of bettering themselves by progress and training."- all of them could notice the dedication and true feelings she had about her martial arts. Hina eyes then light up as an idea came to her – "Maybe we should invite Kenshiro"- she said, shocking Sakura who's face turned red for blushing and confusing the other two – "Who is Kenshiro?"- asked Sayaka confused, although from Sakura's reaction she believed the answer was kind of obvious.

Hina then covered her mouth noticing her mistake. Which only made Sayaka wanted to know even more – "Ohh, who is Kenshiro could it be Sakura's Lover?"- Sakura then blushed embarrassed as Sayaka was trying to prove for info, before Makoto pet Sayaka's head – "Well if she doesn't want to say it is ok"- they all looked surprised at him who as calmly smiling, Sayaka then stopped and Sakura smiled with apretiation over not forcing her to tell – "Well returning to the subject, if you want to follow us to my father's dojo you can come with us"- he said. Sakura and Hina then nodded and the four of them started walking - "So what kind of martial arts are you two learning?" – Hina asked interested on the topic – "Well we are learning Moonlight-style"- the three of them then heard Sakura give a full stop – "wait really?!" – Sakura said excited surprising them – "Yes?"- She then grabbed Makoto's hand

"I have heard of the Moonlight-style, it's almost a legendary type of martial arts, been since the beginning of martial arts and evolving over time. Please Makoto can you explain a little how does it work?"- Makoto looked nervous - "well in truth we aren't learning moonlight-style directly instead"- and both him and Sayaka explained what they were learning – "Amazing no wonder it has survived so long. Instead of teaching the techniques directly to the student, they teach the bases of the two different styles to partner students and they teach the other, this would make both teachings adaptable to the user and ends up creating two different types of Moonlight-style master but with the same roots"- She analized, before looking forward – "now I really want to see it"- she said excited before they all laughed a little and quickly left.

"It's a pleasure to meet you master Naegi"- Sakura said as she bowed deeply, surprising Minato – "Is a pleasure to meet you two miss?"- Sakura then stood again – "Sakura Ogami sir. I'm known as the ultimate Martial artist and I'm a fan of all types of it"- she said. Hina, Sayaka and Makoto looked surprised. Sakura was always calm and thoughtful but now she was nervous and starstruck over Makoto's father – "So do you want to stay and watch the training miss Sakura?"- Minato said looking up at her since she was way taller than him. Sakura smiled and nodded – "Ok"- Hina and Sakura then sat on the dojo looking outside, Sakura in seiza and Hina normal.

Minato then walked to his two students – "hahaha you two have a lot of good friends"- he said and they both nodded – "ok today we will try something different"- he said surprising them – "First I want you Sayaka to try and do a silent step"- he said surprising her – "Don't worry much, I'm going to explain in detail how you can do it"- he said as he moved and pointed at were she would have to stand. Sayaka walked there a little nervous as Makoto walked to the dojo and sat next to two girls.

Sayaka then got ready – "first things first you have to calm down, and breath"- he said while she tried but she was so nervous about trying it that she couldn't calm down completely. Minato noticed this and looked a little worried, he then noticed his son looking and thought of something. Although at the beginning he was mostly joking about their relationship, he had noticed during their training that she actually had a lot of feelings for his son – "Ok Sayaka look at Makoto"- he said confusing her, but she did anyways, He immediately smiled at her and she blushed and looked away – "Don't stop looking at him"- Minato said and Sayaka, did it – "Don't look away, only look at Makoto. Imagine there is no more people other than you and him"- he said as she concentrated on Makoto, and could feel her body relax as he saw Makoto – "Imagine yourself next to him. Imagine you getting closer to him"- she then started doing it – "and now take the step"

Everyone looked surprised as Sayaka disappeared and some wind appeared, and just before they could noticed, Sayaka was standing in front of Makoto, both surprised over what just happened. Makoto then smiled at her – "You did it"- he said and she smiled as well – "Don't forget that feeling Sayaka"- They then heard Minato say as he walked to them – "What you just did, was an almost perfect silent step. There should be less wind, but for your first time is amazing"- he said, Sayaka then smiled before she felt Sakura pull her hands excited – "That was amazing!"- She said really out of character before she noticed everyone was staring and felt embarrassed.

"Ok then let's begin with sword practice"- Minato said as he gave both Makoto and Sayaka a wooden sword. Sayaka then held hers confortably it was a little heavy but didn't feel to uncomfortable, but the moment Makoto grabbed his, his whole body fell to the floor – "what the hell? This thing weights like a million tons"- he complained as he tried to pull it up, which felt was surprising, Makoto used to have a really heavy sword – "that wood is from a weird plant that is made of super compressed wood. That wood sword you hold is over 10 tons"- Minato explained surprising everyone, Makoto then used all his vampiric strength to pull it up.

"Ok each of you will swing their swords 1000 times before dinner"- Minato explained shocking both of his students – "but?"- Makoto was going to say before he stop them – "start now!"- he ordered a little strong, but both of them understood and nodded before starting their swings. As he then walked to the dojo Sakura looked at him – "Master Naegi may I ask a question?"- He then looked at her – "I understand wielding a sword is kind of heavy, but isn't Makoto's sword a little to heavy?"- She asked and Minato smiled – "Sure I can explain, better yet I'll show you"- he said as he disappeared and reappeared with training dummies and his sword, surprising Hina and especially Sakura, he then planted the dummies – "Miss Sakura as you probably know the biggest issue in the creation of a martial arts is finding a balance of finesse and strength. Since if your martial arts use a lot of strength you lose finesse in techniques, but if you use a lot of speed you lose strength, so finding the balance for each is incredibly difficult. So most martial master divide their arts into different percentage of strength and finesse. But unlike other martial arts the moonlight-style requires almost 100% finesse and 100% strength, but is impossible to learn directly. So instead the master teaches two different schools with almost all the same techniques, the crimson moon-style, with 70% to 30% favoring strength, and the twilight moon-style, with 70% and 30 & favoring finesse. And only when mastered both you can finally use both properly and be able to use moon-light style"- He then noticed that while Sakura understood almost everything, Hina didn't understood nothing. – "let me show you"

He then stood in front of one of the dummies – "I'll show you by using one of the similar techniques between the three schools of the style"- He then got ready – "Crimson Moon-style New moon slash"- he said as he pulled the sword quickly an in a flash the trees rumbled a bit as he drew his sword and perfectly cut the dummy in half. The two girls, Makoto and Sayaka, who were peaking in, looked surprised over what he did. Both Hina and Sakura recognized that technique from Makoto's try.

Minato then relaxed – "Now the second one"- he calmed down, and disappeared only to appear behind the dummy already sheathing his sword – "Twilight moon-stye New Moon slash"- the moment he sheated the sword the dummy fell down slashed into two. But although it was impressive it just confused them more, although the ways the technique worked were different, the result was basically the same, so why teach two different styles? – "now this one"- His body then relaxed again, but they could all feel the different pressure. Like lightning he then appeared on the other side his sword already drawn, his eyes relaxed but serious - "Moonlight style New moon slash" he sheathed and the three dummies exploded as they were all sliced into miniscule cubes. They all looked shocked at what had just transpired. They had no words to explain it.

"AHHHH!"- they all heard Makoto as he started swinging faster. Seeing his father his motivation rose and he trained even harder. Sayaka looked a bit surprised but looked motivated as well and started going a bit faster as well. Minato then laughed a little making Hina and Sakura look at him. His face looking at Sayaka and his son, gave him a sense of nostalgia, like he was remembering his time as a student, he tne looked down sadly – "Martel what are you doing?

It was almost 8 and the four of them then started walking back to the housing of the school. Minato and Komaru had offered them to stay the night, although Komaru was suspicious that Makoto had brought over so many girls, but they had classes the next day so they had to return. Although they both looked tired, Makoto couldn't even lift his arms over so tired he was. –"Makoto I think you went a little overboard"- Joked Hina as she saw the tired Makoto. Sakura who had almost said nothing after the training then looked at them – "Makoto, Sayaka, why are you both training and learning martial arts?"- She asked serious before all of them stopped – "I know youtwo are good people and I don't believe you would use them for evil, but why do you want strength"- they both looked a little surprised, and Makoto then stood firmly – "Cause I want to protect the people I care for"- he said confusing Hina and Sakura and making Sayaka a little sad – "Lately a lot of people I care for are being getting hurt because of me. Ghouls, Neo exorcist they are attacking and hurting the people I love… that's why I want to be stronger, so I can help them in any way possible"- he said smiling, surprising Hina and Sakura – "and you Sayaka?"- Sakura asked and Sayaka smiled – "well I want to protect Makoto"- she admitted surprising even him – "Makoto is always trying to protect others, but never himself… So I want to be able to protect him so he can protect others"- she said as Makoto's heart pounded quickly and his face blushed. Hina feeling a little jealousy and insecurity over the case. Sakura then smiled softly – "Ok then I want to join you two"-she said surprising both – "I want to join your team Makoto, so I can help you fight the threats in life"- Makoto then asked why –"You know I found out something today while watching you two train. Once I mastered the martial arts, I found a ceiling to my growth. After learning and mastering everything I found no reason to keep going. All my life my purpose was to create master the best martial arts. But once I did I lost my purpose. That is why I want to help you fight. I want to grow, to create a new purpose, and help you create a new world"- she said determined and both Makoto and Sayaka smiled, before nodding – "ok"- while all this was happening on a side Hina looked a little sadly, as she felt a little left out.

As they all went back they all said goodbye to each other. Sakura had noticed that her friend was a little odd, but instead of trying to help herself, she secretly asked Naegi to do that. She didn't know what her friend was suffering, but she did knew Makoto Naegi would have a better answer. Makoto looked confused when she said it, but smiled and nodded anyway. They all separated to their rooms – "wait Hina, actually I wanted to talk alone with you. Would that be possible?"- he asked politely surprising her – "Yeah sure, where you want to go?"- Makoto then recommended they go to the pool in school – "Makoto we can't go now it's late"- but then Makoto grinned a little – "I have a plan"

Hina was surprised that Makoto knew about a secret passage that let them enter the school in secret and they walked secretly until they managed to get to the pool. But it was only when they got there that they noticed they didn't get their swimwear so instead they rolled their pants and sat with their feet on the water. – "how did you know about that secret passage?"- Hina then asked him and he looked a little nervous – "Ok I'll tell you. I is a passage used by reaper to enter the school undetected in case of any trouble"- he said and they laughed for a second, before they went silent, Makoto noticing she looked sadly – "So I guess is my turn to ask a question"- he said and looked at her, surprising her – "how are you feeling?"- he said, the question itself was a simple one but Hina could feel the weight it carried – "Sorry…. I guess you noticed that I'm sad"- she said and Makoto looked at her – "Yeah… but I don't know why"- she then smiled softly – "I feel… useless"- she said surprising him – "after seeing how Sakura and Sayaka are trying to help in the current situation, I felt lonely and useless. To be honest when I first saw you I thought you were a skinny shrimp"- she said making Makoto laughed embarrassed – "But then you I discovered you were sweet and understanding, and then I discovered you were this cool ghoul hunter, and then Maki, Mondo and Mukuro became hunters as well. You all became so amazing, but I'm still me. The same girl from when we met"- she said sadly, actually pulling out her legs from the water and hugging her knees – "I'm not amazing at all"- Makoto then smiled softly and looked ahead

"while I think you are Amazing. Your swimming abilities are incredible"- he said surprising her and making her look at him – "since young I always admired swimmers"- he said smiling - "You know, I'm not good at swimming"- he admitted a little embarrassed – "and when I was young during a fight with a shark ghoul, I almost drowned"- She looked shocked – "Of course drowning me wouldn't have killed me, but I would become unconscious until somebody pulled me up. But just as I was going to faint a girl saved me and helped me out of the water. Sadly I never was able to thank her since I did end up fainting and I woke up when the lifeguard was giving me CPR, but thanks to her I learned how cool professional swimmers were"- he said telling his story, not knowing that Hina's face was a red bright light, she remembered when she was younger saving a boy underwater.

"But I learned that day too that everyone have their own strength and weakness. It's true that I can fight ghouls and jump buildings, but there are things even I can't do: I can't swim like you, I can't smile as honestly as you, I can't even eat as many donuts as you" – he then looked at her – "So I believe you are amazing, cause you can do everything I can't, Because you are Asoi Asahina"- She was smiling softly, somehow what he said made her feel better. He then stood up and gave his hand to help her up – "Maybe we should go back"- he said and she nodded taking his hand and helping her up. but Makoto quickly reacted and pushed her away as he blocked with his arm an Alligator that threw him to the water –"Makoto!"- Makoto then felt as this alligator ghoul threw him to the deepest area of the 4feet depth of the pool, Makoto could see how from the bite he was bledding profusely and he tried to turn them into spikes only to notice that he couldn't control their formas easily – "Surprising isn't it"- The ghoul said shocking him, how could he talk underwater – "The Dr. sent me to capture you, but honestly I didn't believe I was going to be this lucky. I have been spying on you the whole day, waiting for an opportunity, but you being in this pool is so advantageous I can't even believe my luck"- Makoto was trying his best to escape but he couldn't move – "Don't even try kid, Gators have a bite strength of 2125 pounds per square inch enough to bite through steel. You won't get away"- Makoto could feel how his air went away, he needed to escape. So he started pulling his arm with all his strength, getting on the point of ripping it apart. When the Alligator ghoul felt a really heavy kick to his eye, opening his mouth in pain. Makoto then looked up and saw a really familiar setting as Hina pulled his not injured arm and quickly swam up. They finally got out, and both staring coughing as they managed to breathe again – "I guess that won't work would it"- they heard him say as he jumped over the water – "then I'll guess I'll just have to tear you in pieces and take them with me"- after he said this his teeth started swirling faster and faster like a chainsaw. Makoto then summoned a red bloody Katana – "Crimson….Moon-style"- Makoto then quickly turned around – "New moon slash"- Makoto then swung his sword, slashing the ghoul sideway and cutting him in half"- the ghoul then just fell to the ground, dead. Makoto then fell to his knees trying to breath.

Although Hina was horrified, she still ran to Makoto – "Makoto are you ok?"- she asked him, and he smiled – "yeah I'm ok… a little to much"- he then sat on the floor before looking around – "I guess I made quite a mess"- he said before pulling his cell out (water immune, work of the Togami company) – "I should probably call the clean up crew"- he said and she looked worried at his wounded arm, he then noticed she was staring – "don't worry it will heal fast. By tomorrow there won't be even a scar"- he said trying to calm her down, but she only felt worse. She then went to get the med kit in the area while Makoto called the clean up crew of the Reapers, shocking both Jin and Kijo since he was still fighting ghouls. He then explained everything, making them sigh.

Hina then came back and immediately started bandaging his arm – "I'm sorry"- she said confusing Makoto – "Your arm got hurt because you were protecting me"- she said sadly, and he smiled – "that's not true, after all he was after me. And you saved me, so instead I should be thanking you"- he said, surprising her and making her smile a bit. After she finished Makoto then stood – "We should probably leave before they arrive. I don't want them to scold me"- he said joking as she calmed a little more. And she nodded, leaving with him to the housing. They then arrived to Hina's room – "well rest well"- he said but then felt Hina hold his wet shirt – "Actually… can you stay… I'm a little afraid, I'll lend you a t-shirt"- she admitted, and he smiled – "sure I can stay on the sofa"- he said as they both entered the room.

While all this happened inside Makoto's room was Junko dressed in lingerie and sitting on the bed pouting – "Makoto where are you!"

Well this is the end of the chapter

I feel a little disappointed because I wanted to finish on the 24 to celebrate it's anniversary… but It got complicated XD
