BIHP 46: the truth

Minato was preparing his equipment to go to Noctis, he had his team set up to be: Yukizome, Kyosuke, Juzo, Ruruka, Izayoi, Seiko, Makoto's team as support, a small reaper squad, and Martel. And their mission was to go to Noctis and stealthily retrieve Makoto. While he prepared his equipment he then noticed that Komaru had entered the room – "Komaru?"- he asked and she looked worried – "Dad are you going to fight?"- Minato then sighed and looked at his daughter – "Don't worry Komaru, If all goes right, we won't have to fight"- but she still looked extremely worried – "but dad does it have to be you?"- Minato then looked in pain.

"Last time, I didn't manage to do anything for your brother"- he then looked determined at her – "so this time I'll make sure I'll bring him back"- Komaru looked surprised but then looked worried – "dad… please take care of yourself"- Minato hen smiled and walked to her petting her head – "don't worry I promise we will return to be a family soon enough"

Before breakfast, Makoto was extremely tired, both mentally and physically. Angie had been stalking him and asking him for sex for the whole day before, and he had to run, not being able to sleep because he had to be vigilant about Angie. Makoto was the first one to arrive at the table and was almost asleep. As more and more of his brethren appeared he greeted them… except for Angie, who tried to kiss him, but Makoto didn't let him. But to their surprise, Rantaro was the last to arrive… after all he was always the first one to arrive. After Rantaro sat down he then looked at Makoto

"Makoto good morning"- and Makoto greeted him back – "so wise leader why are you late?"- asked Kokichi – "Kokichi show respect"- Kirumi said and Rantaro sighed – "stop fighting"- Rantaro ordered and they all stood silent – "Makoto, tonight will be the ritual"- he said shocking everyone and Makoto could feel their blood getting excited to see Atua again… but somehow he instead felt dread. But it wasn't his… he knew it was Ezio's thoughts – "So prepare yourself"- he said and Makoto nodded.

While Kaito and Kirumi looked at Rantaro… today was the day.

Makoto was thoughtful in his room… something felt wrong. Although deep inside he felt he could trust what they said about caring for him and treating him like his family… well maybe except for Angie who was acting… weird. But the others were truthful, but at the same time, he felt something was wrong here. Ever since he came here something felt… weird, like a deep fear inside of him, and now that he had to fulfill the ritual, that fear just increased. But he knew that it wasn't his… so he had to talk with its real owners.

Makoto then closed his room and calmed down as he tried to connect. After he opened his eyes he noticed he was inside the mental bar. He looked around until he found her… Ezio sitting on top of what looked like a pool table – "You know is nice finally being able to see you"- he said smiling softly and she looked sadly at him.

"How did you get here?"- she asked and he smiled while he sat next to her – "I could always come here. I just never did"- he said and she looked a bit confused – "then why didn't you come sooner?"- Makoto then looked sadly to the ground. – "I knew you were hiding something from me… but I wanted to allow you to say it yourself"- he admitted and she looked sadly down.

"Are you mad with me for hiding this secret?" she asked a bit guilty and he sighed – "Not really"- he said surprising her – "I know you Ezio, we been together for a long time"- he said making her blush – "So I know that if you are trying to hide something is for my protection… but Ezio keeping this secret is hurting you… and seeing you hurt… pains me" – he said sadly while holding his chest. Ezio then looked sadly.

"so please tell me"- Makoto asked softly, and she looked guilty and hurt – "But Makoto. If I tell you… not only will it tear apart your new family… but it will only bring you again in harm's way"- she said and Makoto noticed she started shaking – "Ezio?"- he asked worriedly.

"I'm scared"- Makoto then noticed her face… she had the same face of fear that Makoto always had when he met his mother. Feeling her pain he then held her hand – "Ezio please trust in me"- She then smiled softly before she looked sadly – "It's about my father Atua"- she said surprising him. She then showed her sad determination.

"everything you know about Atua… it's false"- he said shocking Makoto – "what do you mean?" – She looked down to the floor – "Atua is an evil and dangerous dictator"- she said surprising him – "The story you were told about him aren't true"- Makoto then looked determined – "Please tell me everything"- She looked thoughtful for a second.

"Originally my father wasn't the leader of the Clan of the Night, instead it was my mother Arietta" - she said surprising him – "My mother was a nice person, she cared about the other Clan members, she taught them how to defend themselves from dangerous creatures, and she helped them find and develop their abilities. She was known as the Creator ghoul, cause just like us she could create any item of an inanimate object from her blood"- she said smiling softly before her face turned sour.

"But my father was different, although is not true, he constantly believed he was the weakest of all of them. although his power had so much potential"- she said before looking at Makoto – "my father's power is called Charisma, he can make those he give his blood become stronger and gain new abilities, but in exchange, they must serve him. Other than us, he is the only one who can also create ghouls and dhampirs. But because his power depended on others instead of himself and because my father was a man who was always constantly living in fear of pain and suffering, he wanted to gain more power than anyone. So he tried to use his power on the Clan members, but it failed. He soon discovered that his powers couldn't work on vampires and not only that… Clan member's powers can't affect other vampires. And with the support of my mother he gave up on getting power and instead fell for my mother"- She said smiling.

"but it all changed when I was born"- Makoto looked confused – "I was special, I was born with my mother's and father's powers. But at the same time… I was born with a different power… one that destroyed the peaceful lives of the Clan… The Rebel, the power to break the taboo"- she said, confusing him again – "I told you Vampire powers don't affect other vampires, what that means is that even if another vampire tries to injury you or mind control you, your body wouldn't be affected and your hyper healing would still work. But I can break that"- Makoto then asked how she found out.

"When I was 7, I was training with my mother, learning to use weapons… which by the time were just simple spears, and accidentally cut my mom's palm… I felt so bad, and everyone was so nice to me… but then we noticed that my mom's cut… wasn't healing. They were shocked, and they tried to see if her immortality had disappeared, but any other wound except for the cut on her hand healed instantly. That's when they discovered my power. But even then… they loved me like family, they treated me like one of them and I loved them. But unlike the others… my father looked at it… like an opportunity"- Makoto gulped, he could feel her shaking.

"my father wanted my power" – she said shacking – "he knew that if he gained it… he could take over and become more powerful. So one day while he was with me… he bit me"- Makoto's eyes widened in shock and anger – "we clansmen made a promise to never consumed the blood of other Clansmen because our fangs are the only way to seal other members of the clan. But he broke that rule… soon after, my mother and the others found out and tried to stop him. But using his new powers… took control of my mother. He said that with his powers he would take over all the living beings in the world and make sure they couldn't injure him… he would become the god of the world and for it, he needed our power. He then used her to fight against the others."- Ezio's face was full of dread ad those memories became more and more vivid.

"Not only she was stronger than the others, but also they didn't want to hurt her, so they were at a disadvantage against her. But during the fight with the last of her strength she took back control and using the same spearhead that injured her hand, she stabbed herself in the heart and died to protect the others. After that Rantaro took leadership of the clan and ordered to seal my father by stabbing him with ripped off fangs from my mother until all his blood was drained. And hid his body. After that event, I ran away. I couldn't live with the guilt of killing my mom and ran until I ended in that Ice"- she finished and Makoto looked sadly, he could feel her pain during the whole conversation. But taking a deep breath.

"But if that is the true story then why the others think Atua is a good leader?"- Makoto asked and Ezio shook her head – "I don't know, after all, I ran… but I think… maybe during the fight they were all infected with my father's blood, and in his weakened state instead of taking over them, slowly changed their memories"- Makoto looked surprised. But then suddenly remembered how Himiko acted after trying to remember Atua, and how he was able to see the memories of the colossal ghoul in the past. Makoto then held her hand and asked her if she was ok… to which she smiled softly.

"I'm afraid of him…even after I ran I would have nightmares about him. I knew someday he would be back so I tried to hide from him. So, I ran farther and farther until my body just gave up and went to full sleep… and then by the time I was awake I was inside a random kids body"- she said – "wait what do you mean?"- Makoto asked, and she looked guiltily as she started playing with the pool balls – "Makoto… it wasn't just random chance that you survived that experiment. You see I was inside the body of all 253 bodies, I met all of them and I killed them" - she said her eyes showing her guilt and Makoto looked shocked – "I didn't want to kill them, but I also couldn't let them accept my power if they did… they would only be in harm's way when my father returned"

"Then why did you accept me?"- Makoto asked surprising her and she smiled – "Makoto… you are special"- she said confusing him – "Not only did you took Tsumugi's turn… but while you were in in the experiment, suffering more pain than any other person could withstand, you looked at me… me who had killed 253 people before you… and the first thing you said to me was… are you ok miss?"- Makoto didn't remember saying that but she was smiling.

"You were more worried about me… that you were worried about yourself. And that kindness hit me hard. At that moment I knew I couldn't take your life, and you were turned"- Makoto then smiled softly – "I knew that I was bringing you to this dark side, but I wanted you to be alive. So I promise myself to protect you in any way I could, even if I wasn't the best at it… and you still suffered a lot of painful moments"- Sadly said remembering all the hate and solitude Makoto had suffered – "that is why I didn't want to break your new family… I know they all are nice people who will love you… So it was hard for me to decide if I wanted to protect you from my father, or finally let you live in a loving family"- She said and then felt a flick on her forehead. Surprising her.

"Then that just means we have to make sure Atua doesn't come back"- Makoto said surprising her – "if the only thing making sure we can't live happily is Atua…then we just have to take him out"- Makoto said, but Ezio still looked discouraged – "but how… know that he drank my blood, my powers no longer work on him"- Makoto then smiled – "then we just need to find a new way. A way that saves the clan, my friends, and us. But we can't do that if we give up hope"- Makoto said smiling while offering his hand to her, surprising her – "so let's work together"- Ezio tears then started forming and instead hugged Makoto, surprising him a bit – "thank you"

Makoto woke up and smiled – "Always"

Sayaka was going inside Makoto's room with a spare key she had. After Makoto was kidnapped, she had been feeding Usami, but as she was going to open, noticed it was already opened. Confused she entered and saw Kyoko playing with Usami and looking sad.

"Kyoko? What are you doing here?"- she asked and Kyoko looked sad – "Sayaka I wanted to talk with you"- she said and Sayaka sat next – "what should I do?"- Kyoko asked and Sayaka looked surprised – "Sayaka, I betrayed him… I don't know if I should see him"- she said and Sayaka sighed.

"Do you think he would care about that?"- Sayaka said surprising Kyoko – "Makoto would never be mad at you because of that… especially because you did it to try to save him"- she said and Kyoko looked sadly – "But…"

"did you know Junko tried to kill Makoto?"- Sayaka admitted and Kyoko's eyes widened – "What do you mean?"- Sayaka then explained everything that had happened and out of pure shock Kyoko stood – "Why didn't you tell me? Why didn't you do something?"- Kyoko asked offended and mad that Sayaka didn't tell her. Sayaka then looked down – "He wanted to give her another chance"- Kyoko eyes widened – "can you believe him? she made him suffer so much and he still cared for her… I couldn't believe it… how can he be so kind?"- she then looked at Kyoko – "So I think is impossible that he could have any resemblance of hate or resentment for you"- Kyoko then smiled

"thanks"

The middle of the night Minato and his crew were driving a couple of boats with chips that made them invisible from radars, and as they arrived at nearby the ports they parked and silently walked to the city, they were all wearing civilian clothes and were investigating around while talking to people around.

Mondo, Sayaka, Kyoko, Maki, Mukuro, Izuru, Kyoko, Byakuya, and Sakura were eating in a nearby pizza restaurant while keeping their secrecy – "So… why are we here?"- asked Mondo a bit annoyed over how calm they were acting – "You heard Mr. Minato, we are to keep images until we attack"- Kyoko explained as she ate some pizza, a bit annoyed Mondo then sighed and started eating as well.

"So you heard about the new lord?"- they then heard a couple of men talking – "yeah apparently he was born only a decade ago… and yet they were always keeping tabs on him while protecting this country"- he said rather proud – "the Clan of the Night are venerable lords, almost to the point of godhood. All praise the Clan of the Night!"- he said and his friend repeated.

Just then Byakuya received a call on his cell. He then responded – "Yes… ok"- and closed his phone – "we have to go"- he said and everyone there nodded determined, Makoto had saved them all many times, it was their time to save him.

Minato and Martel were in a café as they looked at the mansion on top of the hill… the house of the Clan – "So are you serious about it?"- Asked Martel confusing Minato. He noticed instead of looking at their target she was more concentrated on her coffee – "Do you want to get a divorce?"- Minato looked a bit surprised for a second before he looked away – "yes… Martel, I love you… I truly do… but I can't just turn a blind eye over what you have done."- she then looked sadly

"I see… yeah you are right… I shouldn't have left that day"- Minato eyes widened and finally snapped – "That isn't it!"- he screamed surprising her and shocking some of the people around – "This is about Makoto!"- he said and her eyes widened – "How could you do that to him? Makoto suffered a horribly traumatic experience one that broke his body and soul and when he needed you the most you hurt him more, you treated him like a monster… and then you tried to kill him… your own son… You say that he is a monster but compared to you he is a saint. Even after all you have done to him, he still cares for you… Why can't you see that?"- he said and his eyes widened when he saw Martel crying.

"then what should I do about this pain in my chest?"- she said surprising him – "Do you think I want to hate my son? Do you think I wanted to feel this way? I wanted to love him… to support him… but every time I see him this burning rage appears inside of me"- she admitted as she grabbed her chest – "I hunt him, I called him a monster to protect myself of any feelings, he was my son… my baby, but my hatred is too much… I can't just act like it's not there"- Minato looked shocked… but clenched his teeth and looked determined – "If you can't do that… then we can't be together… I love him, and I want to protect him… I can't have you hurting him anymore"- Martel looked hurt and Minato stood – "that's enough, we have a job to fulfill"

Makoto and the other clansmen walked through a stairway under the mansion. They were guiding him to the location of Atua – "wow I didn't know there was something under the mansion"- Makoto said as he looked around the stairway – "if that surprises you wait until you see this"- Kaito said as they crossed an archway and Makoto's eyes widened there was a huge illuminated forest like the day was shining, he could see a lot of animals there even those who were extinct.

"wait are those Dodos? And those are Thylacines"- Makoto said surprised as he looked and they looked at him a bit happy over his excitement – "How is this possible?"- he then asked and Kirumi smiled softly – "Makoto we have lived a long life, and we have met a multitude of species. Some living and some now extinct. But as members of this planet, we want to protect it. So every time a species of plant, animal, insect, etc. are going extinct we find the last of their kind and bring them here, where we make sure they populate again and survive"- Makoto looked surprised, he still remembered what they had done and how they attacked the humans… but seeing them like they were at the moment he couldn't believe they were the same people.

As they walked down more and more Makoto finally noticed an old temple and his chest tightened… he could feel a deep and dark aura coming from it – "Makoto are you feeling ok?"- asked Himiko worried and Makoto smiled – "oh yeah… just nervous"- this wasn't a complete lie… after all, he knew that he had to kill Atua… but the issue was… how would the others react.

As the door opened Makoto's eyes widened as in front of him, in a cross crucified with two nails was a bone skinny malnourished man with black long hair that got to his knees. As he looked at it Makoto could feel Ezio's fear inside of him. – "there it is…Atua"- Rantaro said. Makoto then calmed down – "so what do I have to do?"- he asked. Angie then gave him a chalice – "fill it with your blood we shall feed it to Atua that way he will come back"- Makoto then looked at the chalice and looked guilty but looked determined. He had to do it now… as blood started pouring out and he was about to turn them into weapons, he suddenly felt a strong pain on his chest, he then looked back and noticed Kaito had stabbed him with his hand on his heart – "Makoto what are you doing?"- Kaito said with a smile and Makoto fell to his knees – "Kaito what are you doing?"- asked Angie shocked equally as all of the other Clansmen (except for Rantaro and Kirumi). Kaito then pulled a napkin and cleaned his hand – "he was planning on killing Atua… I had to stop him"- Kaito said and they all looked at Makoto – "Makoto why?"- Angie asked heartbrokenly – "Atua is not what you said… I can feel the evil coming from him" – he said and they all looked mad. Makoto could notice a weird spark crossing their eyes – "No he is not Atua was a great man"- Kokichi exclaimed, and everyone agreed. They truly believed what they were saying… but Makoto could notice the blood of Atua taking over them. He had to stop them, even if it meant fighting them

"Korekiyo seize him"- Korekiyo then rose his hand and a sand claw appeared grabbing Makoto, who couldn't defend himself over his injury. Kaito then grabbed the chalice and placed it under the sand claw – "Korekiyo if you may?"-Makoto then felt how from the sand spikes were summoned and stabbed him all over his body, and how blood spurted painting the floors with it. From it, Kaito filled the chalice with his blood – "Kaito you must believe me… If you give that to Atua…it will be our end"- Makoto said and but knew they wouldn't listen – "Makoto don't worry after he comes back you'll see how he is"

"I won't let you" – Makoto said and Kaito smiled – "Makoto how will you stop us? you are trapped"- Kaito said, and Makoto grinned – "that is my blood you are carrying"- Makoto's eyes then glowed red and the pool of blood under him started moving and a blade appeared under him breaking the sand, and the chalice was quickly broken as metal spikes broke it and Kaito's hand was injured. Makoto then fell to the ground and quickly reabsorbed his blood. He knew he couldn't fight and quickly tried to run. As he dashed he then jumped sideways as a large explosive red ball hit next to him exploding in touch and sending him flying.

Makoto then quickly turned around and landed on his feet as he looked at his attacker Ryoma with a tennis racket and floating blood balls – "Makoto, don't do this… we just want our family back"- Ryoma said, and Makoto looked sadly – "sorry but I'm doing this for you guys"- he admitted.

Rantaro and everyone else then looked sadly – "then we will have to stop you" – he said and all the other vampires got ready as well. Although with a heavy heart Angie then took her brush and with her blood she painted fire around Makoto which turned real and flames surrounded him. Makoto was a bit surprised but kept his composure.

While surrounded by flames, Makoto was dodging the attacks from the blood insects that Gonta summoned. He then summoned his blood blades and started slashing the insects only to notice that some of them were illusions. Makoto then looked even closer and noticed a red mist coming from Kokichi and suddenly Makoto was surrounded by an army of Vampire and blood insect clones. Makoto then closed his eyes, using his senses to fight against the enemies. While he did that he noticed the floor started shaking, as reaction Makoto jumped back and a rock hand appeared. He looked around and noticed Kirumi pouring her blood into the floor.

And it changing the floor, and with the help of Tenko's ability to twist objects and Himiko's ability to warp, Makoto was having a really hard time dodging… what should he do?

Makoto then felt a powerful shock that stunned him and made him fall to the floor. Makoto noticed where it came from and his eyes widened as small balls of red lightning surrounded Rantaro. Makoto then fell to his knees again as his whole body was stunned – "that's enough Makoto… we have to do this"- he said and Makoto's insight noticed that he was hiding something.

"take his blood again"- he ordered Kaito who sighed and with another chalice made of stone (made by Kirumi) sliced Makoto and fill it with his blood – "No wait… you can't if you do… it will the end"- Makoto pleaded but it fell into deaf ears. Without a single thought, Kaito then went to the body of Atua and fed it the blood, while Makoto looked horrified.

….

For a couple of second nothing happened, but then the floor started shaking and the roof started breaking, they could hear the sound and trample of animals nearby running away as this was happening– "Makoto!"- they all heard as in the entrance they noticed Minato and everyone there, horrifying Makoto – "What the hell are you doing here? Get out!"- Makoto screamed shocking them. The place then stopped shaking and everyone there felt a cold wave of darkness and dread, Makoto then looked at the source and saw Atua coming off of the cross and his eyes open
