BIHP 49: Reveal

They were near Tokyo, where the accumulation of ghouls was increasing. Sayaka was fighting against a group of ghouls using her Naginata and Bow, she had taken some basic teaching in both from Minato-sensei. But she still struggled using them perfectly – "Is so different compared to a sword"- she complained as she took another one out. Just then she noticed what looked like an armadillo ghoul – "Uh hi?"- she said before she saw it turn into a ball and roll to her. In a quick reaction, she then dodged out the way of the attack. Seeing it crush a large piece of debris. She looked a bit surprised but then looked determines as her naginata turned back into a sword. And she prepared herself.
The ghoul then started to roll to her – "Crimson moonlight-style"- she said as she took Makoto's stance, as the ghoul arrived at her range – "New moon slash!"- she said as she slashed with all her strength, cutting the ghoul and its armor in half.
After she managed to do it, she noticed her hand was tingly and a bit stunned – "wow how Makoto can handle this?"- she said as she noticed her hand. But smiled a bit… they both knew neither of them was ready to learn the style of the other… but there was no time to wait until they became masters. Sayaka then looked around noticing the others training with their weapons.

Behind them in the top of a broken building were Makoto and Kyoko. Makoto sitting on the border of the roof standing watch as he saw Mondo, Sayaka, Mukuro, and Sakura training with their new weapons – "so how was your day with your mom?"- Makoto asked Kyoko, surprising her over the quick change of conversation. But then looked forward – "It was great… we talked for a long time… I told her everything I wanted to say to her… She joked that I had her blessing to date… and dad complained and told me I couldn't"- Makoto then smiled as he heard her say, dad… She then noticed it herself and blushed, making him laugh a bit, and embarrassing her more. Makoto then looked at his team.
"We sure have changed haven't we?"- Makoto said surprising her – "It used to be just us 3, I used to hate my powers, Byakuya used to be with us… and so many more"- Makoto said smiling softly, Kyoko then sat next to him – "Yes I guess a lot has changed"- Makoto then look at the sky.
"I wonder how different the story would have been if there were no vampires, dhampirs, or Ghouls… Maybe we would have never met… or maybe we would have met under different conditions… Maybe it was because of a murder mystery"- Makoto joked and Kyoko sighed. Before his eyes widened as he felt her rest on his shoulder – "well… Even if the world is not perfect…. I'm happy I met you… I love you"- Makoto's face exploded in steam and Kyoko smiled.
They both then moved quickly as they reacted to an extreme bloodlust. And looking at its source they noticed an angry Sayaka who stared at them. She then disappeared and appeared again in the middle of them – "so while we are training you two are just flirting?"- she scolded them, making them blush. She then looked at Makoto – "I thought that you were paying attention to us"
"I am… I promise" – Makoto said embarrassed and nervous. Sayaka then pouted – "Makoto I thought you liked me and Kyoko I thought we were friends… and yet you are leaving me out and enjoying yourselves" – she said pouting – "even when I worked so hard to try using Crimson Moonlight-style"- she said a bit sadly.
"I did see that… It was amazing"- Makoto said a bit excited, and she blushed – "oh thanks"- she said and Makoto smiled – "now who are the ones who are flirting?"- Kyoko said and Sayaka's face turn red. Makoto was blushing. Sayaka then took a heavy breath.
"Ok Makoto I think is time you tell us" – she said surprising the two of them – "we understand and love you either way. But now that is all dangerous… and we could die any day… which of us you love more?"- she asked him and both Kyoko and Makoto looked surprised – "what?!"- Makoto said shocked - "where did that come from?"- he said, his face red. Sayaka then looked at him.
"well… we could die during our fights… so I want to make sure there aren't any death flags before fighting"- she said a bit embarrassed and Makoto looked a bit surprised… before he giggles a bit. He had forgotten that Sayaka was a bit of a nerd. She blushed again – "so? What is your answer?" – Makoto then looked at them. Kyoko was silent, although embarrassed, she also wanted to know.
"well… it's complicated" – he said a bit embarrassed and nervous – "I like… no I Love both of you…"- their eyes then widened and a tinge of pink covered their faces – "But I guess I also have some feelings for both Maki and Tsumugi"- he also admitted – "and then there are also Junko and Angie"- he said and they both looked suspicious, over his mention of Angie – "But to be honest my heart is mostly pulled by both of you…you two are amazing… and I obviously don't deserve neither of you"- he said honestly and they looked a bit mad – "you two have accepted me, stood with me, smiled, cried and supported me. And because of that… my heart belongs to both of you… but at the same time… I don't fully belong to neither… I'm sorry"- he said sadly and apologetic, and when he looked to them… he noticed they were mad at him but blushing. – "Huh?"- Makoto looked a bit confused and looked sadly -" sorry… I know you are mad over my indecisiveness"
"Don't talk about yourself that way… I hate it when you do that"- Kyoko said and Sayaka nodded surprising him – "What?" – he was surprised over their response – "Why do you always put yourself down… It hurts us when you say those things… So please"- Sayaka said and Kyoko agreed. Sayaka said sadly and Makoto looked surprised… but then smiled softly – "see is that same kindness that made me fall for you"- he said and they blushed again.
"Thanks"- he said smiling – "really?! I come back and this is the first thing I see?"- Sayaka and Kyoko were surprised over the voice that came from behind them, but Makoto just smiled before looking at its source – "Well… you just came at the wrong moment"- he said a bit embarrassed and the two girls looked embarrassed as well – "Makoto I really can't understand how you can make so many girls fall for you"- the voice said and Makoto smiled – "well you are one to talk… you made an enemy fall for you Leon"- he said as he looked at Leon holding his briefcase.
"Leon why are you here?"- Sayaka asked surprised, she remembered how she had tried to talk to him and how he rejected the offer to join back – "Makoto talked to me… we… talked about Luzia… and now I'm back"- both Sayaka and Kyoko then looked worried at him – "But…"- Leon then looked at them

1 day before
Makoto was walking to Leon's room. He didn't see him in class that day and wanted to check if he was ok. As he arrived at his room he then knocked on the door… only to be responded by silence – "Leon I can open this door myself… but I think it would be better if you opened it yourself"- he said and he waited for about 20 seconds before the door opened and he saw Leon's face… he looked depressed and weak, he had dark spots under his eyes, like he hadn't slept in a while.
"Hey can I come in?"- he asked holding a large bottle of cola – "I know normally it should be sake… but we are underage… and I couldn't find non-alcoholic sake"- he said. Leon then tried to close the door but he stopped him – "I'm coming in either way Leon"- he said. Leon looked madly and walked away as Makoto opened the door and entered. Inside he saw a dark, dusty, messy room. - "Wow Leon this room looks horrible,,, you should really clean it up"- Makoto said as he sat on a chair, and served himself a drink – "I mean is bad for your health to be…"
"Why are you here Makoto?"- Leon asked with poison on his voice, Makoto then looked at him - "I came to ask you again to join my team"- Leon looked mad and held Makoto collar while staring daggers at him, and making Naegi drop his drink, and making the glass shatter – "Is this a fucking joke?"- he said and he looked at Makoto noticing he was calm and serious.
"Leon… I'm not joking… I want you back with us"- he said. Leon looked surprised for a second before he let him go and Makoto fell to his chair, Makoto then smiled softly, before he kneeled to clean the broken pieces of the glass – "Leon I understand that you are in pain over the death of Luzia…but you can't let I get to you… If you do… you won't be happy"- he said
"What would you know!?"- screamed Leon – "How can you know how I feel?! How this pain feels deep inside…."- Makoto then looked down – "Your chest tightens, your heart doesn't stop pounding hard… the pain makes your breath hard, the memories make you tears fall. And you look day in and day out at death as a friend"- Makoto said shocking Leon… how could he know all that? Makoto then finished cleaning and looked at him – "Leon… you are not the only one who has seen grief, I have seen it a lot of times in my life. And like you, I used to try and hide from it… but it wasn't until someone else showed me I was wrong that I noticed the truth"- He then looked at Leon – "you can blame yourself all you want, you can say your death will solve everything… but that is just selfish thinking… If you feel guilty for her death… if you really loved her… then live her share of life too… make sure her memory never goes away"- Makoto then threw all the shards into the trash – "after all, just like this glass you can think you can fix it again… but it would never be the same. So just walk forward and live"- Makoto then walked away leaving the room.
Leon fell into his bed holding his head – "Luzia… what should I do?"- he then looked at his desk and his eyes widened. There was Makoto's Cola and a non-shattered glass… but Makoto lied… although he said he had no sake, instead he had brought Luzia's favorite drink. Leon then stood up and served himself a drink in silence before drinking it… and tears fell as he remembered the flavor that he always shared with Luzia.
"I can't stop moving… isn't that right Luzia?"- he said as he looked forwards

Leon smiled as he remembered that conversation – "I can't stop moving forward"- he said as he dropped his briefcase and opened it revealing a ruby belt, he then bit his tongue and poured it on the belt which shined turning into a set of goggles, a bat and a belt full of red and black balls – "so I'm back"- Makoto then stood and slashed his neck, but Leon didn't even flinch.
"Is good to have you back Leon" – Makoto said smiling and Leon smiled back – "let's make sure we win this war" – They both then looked back as a giant ghoul appeared – "Ohh sorry… I forgot I was keeping that one at bay"- Makoto said as he summoned his swords. Both Sayaka and Kyoko looked a bit surprised… what did he mean by keeping it at bay? – "well then we just have to make him disappear"- Leon said. Sayaka then also got ready
"Ok everyone lets go"
….
"Makoto are you crazy, how can you just go and hunt giant ghouls?!"- scolded Jin as they returned all of them covered in dirt and small injuries – "well… we wanted to see how strong we were for the future fights"- Makoto said embarrassed. Making Jin sigh hard – "well at least none of you are hurt"- but he noticed something… they indeed all looked stronger.
"well-changing subjects… we had a meeting with Gran Holy Knight Dio"- he said and Makoto looked confused – "Grand Holy Knight?"- Makoto asked confused, and Jin looked serious – "after the attack of the Vatican, and the attack to the mayor cities the Vatican Crusaders have decided to take a full military stance. Right know Dio is the leader of their armies"- he said a bit sadly and Makoto looked a bit confused.
"Makoto we have been talking and they believe… it's time you reveal yourself to the world"- he said shocking everyone – "But you don't believe that… right Jin?"- Makoto said and Jin looked worried – "Makoto we promised you a normal life…and yet we haven't been able to keep that promise at all… but at least with your secrecy we could keep that part of your life normal"- He said guiltily. Makoto then smiled softly – "I understand your feeling Jin… and honestly I don't want to become public either… but now is not the time for that anymore… there is a war going… and sadly… we can't keep it a secret if I'm going to participate"- Makoto admitted.
"Are you sure Makoto? you know what they are trying to do. Either they want to make you the public face for all the hatred or trying to set you up as a hero. Either way, they are trying to place all the responsibility and pressure of this whole issue on you"
"I know… but they can do whatever they want… after all. I'm no doing it for them… I'm doing it for the people I truly care for" – Makoto said and Jin sighed – "well then get ready? You all look like you were in a car crash".

The team arrived at the place where the event was taking place, seeing it was a large conference room. They were in the green room waiting for it to start. As they waited they then heard someone knocking on the door – "Come in"- Makoto said confused over who it was.
As the door opened they all looked a bit surprised as they saw Grand Priest Dio – "good afternoon Naegi-kun"- he said smiling. Makoto then looked at him. His face was scarred, his right eye had a huge scar covering it, and his left arm was substituted with a cyborg one.
"Hi, mister Dio. I heard you had a promotion"- Makoto said and Dio smiled – "yes indeed… after what happened I had to take control before the chaos ate their hearts"- he said and he then looked at Makoto – "Makoto, actually I heard you could produce a vaccine against Atua's powers… may I ask a favor and you use it on me?"- Makoto then looked at him.
"The way you are right now… you would die if I did"- Makoto said surprising everyone. Dio looked at him a bit surprised before he smiled again – "oh well I guess I'll have to wait for the vaccine made by Togami"- he said – "well I have to leave… good luck on your interview"- he said before he left.
"Makoto… what do you mean die… I thought you said that it would only made him your servant?"- Kyoko asked confused, but Makoto looked sadly – "His eyes… showed an intense hatred to me… so intense I know that he would have killed himself if the effect wasn't the one he expected"- he said and they looked sadly at him as well. The fact that someone who supported Makoto could change to such hatred. Makoto was a bit surprised as he felt someone hug him from behind and blushed as he noticed it was Sayaka – "its' ok Makoto we are here for you"- she said and he looked embarrassed she and the others smiled.
"Thanks, guys"
"Naegi-kun you are out in five minutes" – they announced to him.

Dio took the front stage as all the reporters started videotaping, taking pictures, and asking questions loudly, but he rose his hand and they stopped – "as you all know we have called over this media call to publicize the existence and name of the first vampire… the one who was used to create ghoul, but a man that rejected that destiny of the others and helped humans to fight the ghouls, the vampires and anything in between. Hero or not it's up to the people to decide…but no one can negate his accomplishment. May I present to you… Naegi Makoto"
As he said that Makoto took the front stage, and immediately could feel their hatred, their heartbeats revealed their hidden hatred against him… but Makoto didn't react… he knew this was going to happen.
"Good afternoon everyone as you all already know my name is Makoto Naegi, and as explained previously I am a vampire"- he started and immediately they all started talking to each other, Makoto then looked at Jin and he nodded – "I will take questions now"
Without a single thought all the reporters started to barrage him with questions – "Ok… you miss"- Makoto pointed at a female reporter – "Jessica Loretta, 8 news. Can you possibly explain how you became a Vampire?" – she asked.
"well you see a long time ago, even before my birth, the Togami's company found an alive body of a species tracing back millions of years. Seeing that it still had signs of life. From it, they wanted to see how to use this species DNA for the betterment of humanity. But a doctor by the name of Dr. Tsesuna wanted to create a new species by using its DNA to evolve humans. But since the Togami's fully rejected his plan, he stole the specimen and started kidnapping kids to experiment on them… I'm the only living result of that experiment"- explained and they all started talking faster.
"That sir over there"- he said pointing a man on the back – "Lorenzo Von mans New York Times… or what is still there. My question to you is, are the other vampires the result of an experiment like you?"- he asked, Makoto then looked at them – "no. They have been existing since before the human race, and before what happened recently they used to protect humanity and the world"- he said honestly and the people looked surprised. – "Ok her?"
"Naegi-kun can we trust you are an ally of Humanity?" – she asked and everyone stood silently as they waited for his answer. Makoto then looked directly at them – "no"- he said shocking everyone – "I can't promise you that you will trust me… not because I will betray you, but because I don't know if you want to trust in me. You see before I accepted this interview a person close to me told me that the people who wanted this reveal wanted to either turn me into the villain, the one who has all the blame over these situations, or turn me into a hero, the one who will fix everything. And if it was 5 months ago I would have worked my ass off to become said hero… But honestly, I am neither. I am only myself and I will do what I have been doing all this time. I will fight the ghouls; I'll protect the people I care about and whoever I can… but not because is my destiny or obligation…. But because is what I want to do… and anyone who wants to make me feel guilty for it, anyone who tries to blame me for the world or try to tell me is my responsibility to fix it… can just fuck off"- he said flipping them off and pulling out his tongue. Shocking not only the reporters but Dio, his team. Kijo, Jin, and everyone who knew Makoto.
"well that is all, no more questions"- Makoto said as he started leaving, as a reaction, they all started taking pictures, and again barraging them with questions, but Makoto left without answering anymore"
….
"Makoto why did you do that?!"- screamed madly Kyoko at Makoto after the show he did – "sorry… I overreacted… it was just that is was so annoying hearing all they hatred heartbeats… it put me in a mad mood"- he said a bit apologetic and Kyoko sighed – "well I guess there is nothing we can do anymore"-
"Sorry for making everything harder"- Makoto said. – "But what I said still stands… I'm not going to simply become a peon Hero for the people… I will protect the people I care for and fight for them… not for humanity"- he said and they smiled, they understood what he meant, it wasn't that Makoto didn't care about humanity, but instead that he wouldn't let himself be restrained by the chains of responsibility.
"well guys let's go"- he said – "actually can you guys go ahead… I need to talk to Makoto alone"- Sayaka then said confusing everyone –"Please" – she asked and although a bit suspicious they left.
"So what is it Sayaka?"- he asked a bit confused – "Makoto… as you know… since now you have revealed yourself, and because I'm an Idol… is going to be difficult for us to be seen together in public. But I wanted to tell you now… that no matter what anyone says and how they react to you… remember that I support you and love you"- she said and he blushed. – "thanks Sayaka… it makes me feel happy to hear you say that"- he said honestly.
"There is something else… can you bite me?"- she said surprising him, making her a bit nervous – "I know is a weird request but since it would be harder for us to be together... I want a bit of a memento of you"- she said and both blushed – "Ok"- he said embarrassed.
Sayaka then took off her top revealing her blue underwear, making his face red. He then held her close looking at her eyes. Before kissing her deeply as she melted over his lips, he stopped and went to the neck licking it softly and she moaned. She then twitched a bit as she felt his teeth pierce her skin and the succulent red liquid that was her blood came out as Makoto drank it gleefully. Makoto then stopped after a couple of seconds and cleaned the remaining blood. Sayaka's legs then gave up a bit and Makoto quickly held her to prevent her from falling – "are you ok? I didn't take too much didn't I?"- he asked worriedly.
"I'm ok. Just a bit dizzy"- she said before she put on her hood on – "we should walk outside too"- Makoto then nodded, as she held his hand - "Makoto… I love you"- she said and he blushed
"I love you too"

Back at the Vatican
"It is done, the world knows about the boy"- Dio said sitting on a throne as he talked to a man in the shadows – "we must turn him into a hero that will consume the darkness… that is our first step"- the man in the shadows said – "Are you sure this is the right step? I feel disgusted already in helping that beast. After what I saw them do... how could I believe in such a monster?"- Dio said
"Do not worry. For now, we require his power Atua has shown his hand and is more powerful than we could anticipate"- said the shadow walking closer and revealing his true face Kazuo Tengan – "But remember Vlad Tepes was a hero in war and a monster afterward"
