Lucas inquired about Peyton's plans for the wedding as he approached her sitting on the couch with a distant gaze in her green eyes. She seemed preoccupied, thinking about Brooke. Peyton pondered whether Brooke had gone to the hospital as she claimed and if she had asked Haley to accompany her.

The blonde was torn between wanting to be with Brooke and respecting her wishes to focus on the wedding.

Thoughts of the kiss with Brooke troubled Peyton, wondering about her developing feelings. Lucas, noticing Peyton's distracted state, questioned her attentiveness, to which Peyton responded with a confused 'Huh?'

Lucas inquired with a frown on his face if Peyton had been attentive to his words. Peyton, upon realizing his lack of attention, responded, 'What was your question?' Lucas, disappointed, mentioned, 'I asked about your thoughts on the wedding,' as he held Peyton's hand.

Peyton hesitated and replied, 'I'm not sure; anything is fine with me.' Despite her intention to proceed with the wedding, Peyton's true feelings urged her to be honest with Lucas, conveying her uncertainty.

Lucas noticed Peyton's discomfort and inquired, 'Is everything alright, Peyton?' To which Peyton, after a moment of contemplation, expressed, 'Can we postpone the wedding? Although I know you are eager for this day, I believe we need to reconsider our decision.'

Lucas stared at her in astonishment and inquired, 'What do you mean?' He was uncertain about the situation but had a sense that something was amiss. 'I mean that I believe we should postpone the wedding planning,' Peyton started to explain.

The blonde shook her head and stated solemnly, 'No, Lucas, I need to be honest with you.' Peyton gazed up at Lucas and noticed his questioning expression. 'About what?' he asked, shaking his head.

'I am unsure if I can proceed with marrying you,' Peyton confessed with a deep breath, observing his growing confusion. 'So, you are saying you cannot marry me at the moment? We can postpone the wedding if you prefer to wait longer, I am willing to do so,' Lucas responded.

Peyton shook her head and firmly stated, 'No, Luke, I cannot marry you at all. I apologize, but I believe this is not the right decision.'

Peyton winced as Lucas began to raise his voice, 'And why is that? You went to great lengths to remove Lindsay from the equation, and now you claim you cannot marry me.' He said.

"Luke, I apologize for not being certain of my feelings before we became engaged," Peyton expressed, gazing downward. "Is there another individual involved? Is that the underlying cause?" Lucas asked as he stood up.

"Or is this related to Brooke? What transpired between you two?" Lucas demanded, feeling unclear about the situation.

"I mean, if she is attempting to manipulate you in any way, then I will confront her," he added before being interrupted by Peyton. "And what? Inflict harm on her?" Peyton interjected.

Peyton locked eyes with as Lucas stated, "If she is influencing your decision to marry me as part of some scheme, I will confront her verbally, but I will not harm her." Lucas objected, asserting, "What kind of person do you think I am? I am not like Dan."

Peyton clarified, "I did not imply that you were. However, you will not be allowed to approach my best friend because she is not involved in this matter." Peyton declared she would not permit Lucas to interact with Brooke out of fear of potential harm, as Brooke was already dealing with significant distress.

Lucas gazed at her and inquired, 'Then who is it?' He questioned, pacing the room, 'Why did you deem it acceptable to alter your decision at the last moment?'

'I believed I wanted this, I believed I wanted to be with you, Luke,' Peyton expressed as she rose to her feet, 'However, I realize I was unsure of my desires, and there is someone else who has captured my heart,' she disclosed.

Lucas scrutinized her with narrowed eyes, 'Who is this individual? Why did you not disclose this before our engagement?' he probed. Peyton shook her head and shut her eyes, 'Because I genuinely did not comprehend my true feelings, but now I do.'

'And this person is not a man, but a woman,' Peyton uttered with apprehension at Lucas's reaction, 'Wait? A woman?' Lucas bellowed, 'So you are leaving me for a woman, who is it?'

Peyton hesitated, 'Firstly, please attempt to compose yourself. I apologize; I should have considered my feelings before accepting your proposal,' she expressed, 'And I am uncertain if she reciprocates my feelings.'

Lucas inquired, 'Then why worry about it?' while glancing at her. 'I am uncertain, but once I discuss it with her, I believe she will be accepting of it,' Peyton replied as she made her way to the door, planning to go home and speak with Brooke.

'I regret to inform you, Luke, but I don't think the wedding will take place, and I apologize for interfering with your chances with Lindsay,' Peyton expressed as she returned his ring and left the premises. Ignoring Lucas's attempts to contact her, Peyton got into her Comet and drove back home, her heart racing.

Upon arriving, she grappled with how to articulate her feelings to Brooke. Recalling the budding of her emotions for Brooke, Peyton remembered it started when she fetched her from the airport and asked her to return home, but she was certain about her feelings when they were trapped in the library.

Flash-Back: Stuck in the library*

Peyton was guiding Mia to the library, the same location where she had been shot four years prior. "This is the spot where I was wounded by the bullet," she revealed as she led Mia to the area between two bookshelves. "Oh... they have changed the carpet," Peyton noted as she ran her hand across the new flooring.

"So, this is the place where Lucas sat with you during the school shooting," Mia observed while gazing at the spot. "Yes," confirmed Peyton as she rose to her feet, her gaze shifting towards the young singer who was surveying her surroundings.

As Peyton contemplated speaking further, she overheard familiar voices entering the room. She turned to see Brooke, Haley, and Lindsay and unexpectedly felt a twinge of jealousy upon witnessing Brooke and Lindsay engaged in conversation.

"Ah, it seems to be my dear friends Brooke and Haley, along with their new friend Lindsay," Peyton remarked as she glanced at the dirty haired blonde and then at Brooke. "Listen, Peyton, I came with-" Brooke attempted to explain before Lindsay politely intervened.

'No, you do not have to apologize to her,' Lindsay said, glaring at Peyton. 'Just as I am not apologizing to her because I am engaged to Lucas,' the dirty blond stated. Peyton shook her head, 'I really was going to be nice to you,' she began. She couldn't understand why Lindsay's words didn't affect her as they should.

It was Brooke hanging out with Lindsay, so she shouldn't be surprised that Haley was hanging out with the dirty blond, as they were friends, but she didn't understand why Brooke was.

The blond frowned as she thought about it. Brooke was kind to everyone she met unless she didn't like them, and then she would make it known. However, when she did like someone, she became the best friend that anyone could ask for.

Peyton wished that Brooke would stop being friendly to everyone, but that wasn't who the brunette was. She frowned when she remembered that Brooke was trying to get the new bartender's attention, which made her more jealous, but she shook it off.

Flash Back Over*

Upon reflecting on the moment when Peyton began to understand her desires, she parked her car behind Brooke's BMW SUV. The blonde couldn't help but smile as she stepped out of her vehicle and entered the house to locate the brunette. 'Brooke, are you home?' Peyton inquired as she made her way through the premises.

'In here,' Brooke replied from the kitchen, indulging in some ice cream - a treat she enjoyed when feeling upset or contemplative. Peyton entered the kitchen and greeted the brunette with a smile. 'So, how did the hospital visit go?' she inquired as she placed her bag and keys on a chair, and removed her jacket.

'It was alright. I have an appointment in two weeks to ensure proper healing,' Brooke replied nonchalantly, taking another bite of her ice cream.

Peyton approached her and remarked, 'That's good,' despite her skepticism regarding the brunette's account. 'So, what did Haley say about the attack on you?' she questioned.

Brooke expressed, 'She did not say anything because I had asked Skills to accompany us,' she mentioned with a frown.

'I just didn't want Haley to worry more than she already is, especially with everything going on with Carrie,' she explained. Peyton nodded in acknowledgment. 'You will have to inform her eventually,' she stated.

Brooke agreed, 'I understand that's what Skills suggested, but I plan to inform everyone when I am almost fully recovered. I want to avoid scaring Jamie,' the brunette elaborated.

'Anyhow, enough about me and my attack,' Brooke mentioned as she placed her ice cream down. 'What about you and Luke? Have you decided on the wedding plans?' she inquired as she looked at Peyton.

'Do you want me to prepare you a-'" Peyton shook her head. "'No, I actually called off the engagement with Luke,' she revealed, noting the concern in Brooke's hazel eyes. 'Why?' was all the brunette could manage to ask.
