Chapter 6 - Giving Back

Bella POV

The guys had made it back from Nevada safely. The only real bad thing that had happened was that Dad had gotten bit in the ass by a Doberman. I was sure that he was going to need stitches. Dad assured me that he was okay.

It was Saturday morning, Opie was waiting on Jax. Apparently, he was coming to get some baby stuff that Opie had out in the shed. Apparently, Donna had saved majority of their baby stuff after they'd grown out of it. After we'd finished breakfast, the kids had gone in their rooms. Kenny was playing video games and Ellie was reading. At least I think that's what she was doing. I was in the kitchen baking a cake that Aunt Gem had asked me about for the Taste of Charming fundraiser that was tomorrow. I had just pulled the cake out of the oven and dumped it on a cooling rack when I heard a knock on the front door. I went to answer it. "Hey." I said to Jax.

"Hey, this is weird." He said.

I looked at him confused. "What is?" I asked as he followed me to the kitchen.

"Seeing you here." He said.

I turned around and nodded at him. I knew what he was saying. He was saying that it was weird for him to see Ope moving on with his life after Donna. "I'm not gonna hurt him." I said.

Jax leaned against the doorframe. "It's not just him that I'm worried about." He said.

"Me?" I asked curiously. He nodded. "Why?"

He laughed a little. "Your my cousin and as strange as it might sound… I care about you. Just like I don't want to see him hurt, I don't want to see you hurt either."

I smiled at him. "Thanks Jax." I said before Jax made his way to the backyard where Opie was.

Gemma POV

LuAnn and I were at the high school setting up for the fundraiser. "Tell everyone to leave room for the buses." I said.

"Who are we bussing?" LuAnn asked me.

"Oakdale Assisted Living. Seniors are all compulsive gamblers. Triples our raffle dollars." I said.

"God Bless Social Security." LuAnn said.

"Gemma." I turned around and saw April Hobart standing there.

"Oh hey April. Appreciate you coming to help." I said to her.

"No problem. Can I ask you something?" April said.

This can't be good. "What?"

"Charlie's band's playing during the fireworks tomorrow night. He really wants his dad to come." She said.

"Oh shit April." I said. "I don't think Clay is gonna go for it."

"Oh, I would never ask anything like this. Me and you, we understand what went down. But my kids - Charlie doesn't know. It breaks his heart that his heart that his dad can't come to anything around here. Not baseball games, no school stuff." April said.

"All right, All right, all right. I'll bring it up to Clay." I said. "I can't promise anything though."

"Thank you." April said before she walked off.

"Who was that?" I heard Bells ask as she walked up.

I turned and looked at her. Shit. "April Hobart." I said. I saw the lightbulb go off.

"Wasn't her husband -" She trailed off.

I nodded. "Yeah, her ex-husband was the one that got Ope sent to prison." I told her. She nodded.

"I gotta go." She said, turning and walking away. This wasn't going to end pretty.

When I got back to TM, I saw Clay working in the garage. "Hey baby." I said as I approached him.

"Hey baby. All set for your picnic?" He said.

"It's a fundraiser." I told him.

"Who are we raising funds for this year?" He asked.

"Music department, middle school." I said as I followed him around the garage.

"You are a saint." He said.

"Don't be an asshole." I said. I figured now was my time to bring it up. "So, I was talking to April Hobart. What do you think about letting Kyle come tomorrow?"

He was looking at Lowell's work. "I don't think about it. Opie went to prison cause of that asshole. He's excommunicated." Clay said.

"It's not for Kyle. April stayed in Charming when you stripped his patch, divorced him." I said.

"She divorced him cause he was nailing everything with two sets of lips." Clay said. "The answer is no."

"His kid's band is playing tomorrow night. His father's never seen him play." I told him. "It's for April's kids."

"Jesus." Clay said.

"Well, I guess I was just feeling charitable. Thought maybe you'd like the opportunity to do the same thing." I said.

"Hey! I'm very charitable."

"I know, darling." I said as I started walking back towards the office.

"You know what? I'll put it up for a vote. But it's not gonna pass." He said.

"I love you." I said, making my way into the garage.

"That love's gonna kill me." Clay said.

Clay POV - Chapel

"Chuck's been cooking the books for the Asian mob. Skimmed 400K off of Henry Lin's crew." I told the guys. "Otto was keeping him safe up at Stockton, but he gets out tomorrow morning. So we protect him, we pick up the cash, we get him out of Cali. We're gonna split the cash with Chucky boy. 25% goes to us. Otto wants is 25 to go to LuAnn." I told them.

"It ain't gonna be a cakewalk. Lin's a dangerous cat. Sneaky little bastard." Tig said.

"That's why we're gonna work three-man shifts. We're gonna keep this place locked down. Chuck never leaves the clubhouse. And the garage is open for pickups only." I said. I was about to dismiss Church when I remembered Gem's request. "One more thing. April Hobart wants to know if her old man… can come to the fundraiser, see his kid's band play."

"You gotta be kidding." Piney said.

"That's done brother. That's done." Chibs said.

"No, I know. But you know she took a big hit staying behind. She supported the club. It's for her not Kyle. And I figured I'd throw it up for a vote." I said.

"Let him come." Opie said.

We all turned to look at him. "Are you serious?" Jax asked him.

"This can't be about getting even. Not at the school." I said. I knew that Opie had been pissed about Kyle bailing on his that night and then he'd had a rough time after Donna had left him. But since Bell had come to town, they'd gotten close and I'd noticed he'd been happier.

"It's not about that. The guy's got nothing, right? No club, no family. Do me good to see that. Appreciate what I got." Opie said.

I nodded. "Anybody opposed?"

"Yeah me." Piney said. "I don't agree with it."

"Oh this is wrong, man." Tig said.

"Majority rule. Vote passes. Let him come." I said.

Opie POV

When Church had finished, I headed back to the house. Bells and I were gonna have the house to ourselves tonight cause my mom was gonna keep the kids tonight. I wasn't exactly sure how I felt about Kyle being at the fundraiser tomorrow. However, I did know that I needed to tell Bells. I didn't want it surprise her if she saw him tomorrow… not that she'd know who he was.

When I walked into the house, Bells was sitting on the couch flipping through a magazine. "Hey babe." I said, hanging up my Kutte on the hook by the door. I tossed my keys onto the table. She didn't look up from her magazine. I walked into the living room and sat beside her on the couch. "Okay… I give what's wrong?" I asked her.

She closed the magazine. She looked up at me. "Wanna know what I found out today?" She asked me.

Part of me felt like it was a trick question. "What?" I asked.

"Saw April Hobart today talking to Gemma." She said. Shit! This is gonna be bad. "I overheard her asking if Kyle could come to the fundraiser tomorrow."

"Bells, I can explain." I said.

"What is there to explain? Other than the fact that I'm hoping that your gonna tell me that the club voted no. Cause I mean the Club did vote on it right?"

Bells was extremely smart. She was definitely turning into a mini Gemma. I rubbed my hand over my face. "Yes, the club did vote on it. Pop and Tig didn't think that it was a good idea but it passed." I told her.

She sat up and crossed her arms. "I don't like this Ope." She said.

I grabbed her arm and pulled her into my lap so that she was straddling me. "Look, the guy has nothing. No club, no family. I'm doing a hell of a lot better than he is." I said.

I could feel her softening as she put her arms on my shoulders. "You might have a point there." She said giving me a small smile.

"Look, you don't have to worry about anything. I plan on staying away from him tomorrow." I said. And it was true. I had no interest in being anywhere near Kyle Hobart, unless he did something to provoke me. I leaned forward and gave her a gentle kiss.

"Promise?"

I nodded. "Yes. I promise."

Edward POV

I'd finally made it to Charming. I'd found a cheap motel to check into. All I had to do now was locate Bella. I wasn't sure yet where to find her but the one thing that I did know was that I wasn't going back to Forks without her. Emmett was coming up from Nevada to help me. All I had to do was wait.

Bella POV

Once Opie and I had gotten past the conversation about Kyle last night we'd had a relatively quiet night. We'd gone to eat dinner at the diner with Jax and Tara. I wasn't sure what was going on there but they seemed to be spending more time together. From the few conversations that I'd had with Tara, I was under the impression that she didn't want to get "sucked" back in. After dinner Ope and I had gone back to the house and relaxed.

The next morning we'd gotten up and went to pick the kids from Mary. After we picked up the kids we went to breakfast before he headed over to the high school for the fundraiser. When we parked at the fundraiser, we saw Jax standing outside the fence. We walked over to him. "Hey." Ope said.

Jax nodded, lighting a cigarette. "Hey." He nodded his head in the direction behind us.

Ope and I turned around to see what he was nodding at. I saw a man about Jax and Ope's age. He was standing next to a younger blonde girl. "Is that him?" I asked, looking at Ope. Ope nodded. I wasn't sure what I was expecting but Kyle Hobart definitely wasn't it. I looked up at Ope. "Remember your promise." I said before leading the kids into the fundraiser.

Opie POV

I watched Bells and my kids walk into the fundraiser. I ran my hand over my face. "You okay man?" Jax asked me.

I shrugged. "Bells overheard April talking to Gemma yesterday. She wasn't exactly happy that we were letting him come today. I think, she's worried that I'm gonna try and get payback. Even if she didn't actually say it." I told him as we stood there and watched Kyle hug his kids.

"Is she right?" He asked me.

"No. It's not about that. Like I said… he's got nothing." I said. "You know, I've been doing some thinking lately. Donna was never okay with Club life… especially once I got out. She always tried to change me. But Bells… in the short time that she's been here, she's accepted everything about this life." I told Jax and it was true. I knew that things were still moving kind of slow on a personal level with me and Bells but with everything else… she'd taken it in stride. "She doesn't complain about anything, other than this.." I said trailing off thinking about everything since Bells had come to town.

"You really care about her don't you?" Jax asked me. I knew that he cared about Bells because she was his cousin so I knew that he was just looking out for her.

I nodded. "I really do." I told him.

"Go be with your family." He said.

I nodded and made my way inside the fundraiser. I had to admit though, having Bells a part of my family had a nice ring to it. When I walked in, I saw Bells and the kids over by Gemma. I walked over and joined them.

Jax POV

I knew that Opie cared about Bells. I could see how much he cared about her and how much she cared about him. I had a feeling that it wasn't going to be long before he was giving her his crow.

I was standing there watching Kyle when he walked over to me. "No need to say anything, Jackson. I know my boundaries." Kyle said.

"Well, I'm gonna tell you anyway." I said as I flicked my cigarette. "You stay away from everyone. Kid's done playing, you and your teenager… climb in your pretty little cage and drive away." I said as I turned away from him.

"Jax, wait. I have something… for the club." He said causing me to turn around. "This thing fell into my lap, man. I'm making stupid money funneling stolen parts through my gig over at Sparks Brothers. I want to hook you guys up -" I cut him off.

"That's why you're here? Trying to buy us back? Pull us into one of your bullshit schemes?"

"It's not bullshit. Okay. I want to share this with you guys." Kyle said.

"Get out of my sight." I said as I turned around and walked into the fundraiser.

Edward POV

Emmett had shown up in the early hours of the morning. We were going over the information that Alice had been able to find. Apparently Bella's biological father was a member of a motorcycle club in Charming. He was their Sergeant at Arms. Alice had given us the address of the clubhouse. I'd sent Emmett to stake the place out. I gone into the local diner to get a cup of coffee when I saw a poster for something called The Taste of Charming Fundraiser. As I looked at the poster I thought that it seemed like something that Bella would be into. I climbed back into my car and made my way to the address that I'd seen on the poster. When I pulled into the parking lot I saw Bella standing there with two guys and two kids. One of the guys, he was really tall. He had his arm wrapped around her shoulders… around my Bella. I sat there in my car and watched them. They stood there for a few minutes before she walked in with the two kids. I sat there and thought. I was going to have to wait and watch for her to be alone.

Tara POV

I was finishing up my rounds so that I could head over to the Taste of Charming fundraiser. When I'd stepped out of the locker room from changing I was surprised to see Josh Kohn standing there. I froze where I was. "What're you doing here?" I asked him.

"Can we talk?" He asked me. I just stood there. He took a step closer to me. "I just wanted to give you a heads-up. Let you know I'm in town. I'm here on ATF business."

"What business?" I asked.

"It's an interstate weapons case. I shouldn't be telling you this. Originated in South Chicago, big arms deal. Led back here. Sons of Anarchy are involved." He said.

I crossed my arms. "The rose petals and the sick photo, they business too." I said. As soon as I'd seen the rose petals, I'd known that it had been him.

"No. I just know that you really love pink roses. And I don't want to see you get hurt, Tara, not by that guy." Josh said.

"I'm not with him." I said, knowing that he'd been talking about Jax. I wasn't sure where Jax and I stood.

"First loves dies hard." He said.

"You come near my house or you come to my work again…and I will file a police report." I told him.

"Okay, okay. Actually, my federal jurisdiction takes precedence over state-ordered mandates. But I understand how you feel. And I promise no more contact. It's been good talking to you." Josh said before he walked away.

Jax POV

I had been walking through the fundraiser keeping an eye on Kyle when I ran into Gemma. "Hey." She said. I nodded at her. "So, uh, how are the guys handling Kyle?" She asked me.

"Nothing to handle. Kyle's Dead." I said.

"No, he's not dead to Opie." She said, pointing to where Opie was standing off to the side with the fireworks equipment.

I walked over to him. "Hey." He said.

I saw him looking over at Kyle. "I wanted the guy to be miserable, broken piece of shit without Sam Crow." Ope said. I nodded understanding everything he was saying. When Opie had been arrested we'd all wanted to beat the crap out of Kyle for leaving Ope, but instead we'd taken a club vote and excommunicated him. "You know, this club means everything to me, but everything else - is it crazy that when I'm with Bells and my kids, that I feel that everything is perfect… the way that it should be?"

I shook my head. Part of me could understand what he was saying but the other part of me felt lost. I had no idea what my family would consist of. I looked at Bells and Opie together, even though she didn't have his Crow I knew that they were headed in that direction. Wendy was in rehab again not that I wanted to go down that path. And Tara… I wasn't sure where I stood with Tara. We'd kissed the other day but I didn't know what it meant. "I got no answers man. My family plan is right out of the Sid and Nancy handbook. I'm used to shit moving in the other direction… I don't know what I'd do if something actually hooked up." I told him.

Opie was still looking at Kyle. "You think he's happy?" He asked me.

I looked over where Kyle was standing. "Probably not near as happy as you are." I told him, thinking about how happy he and Bells seemed.

We stood there and watched. He'd apparently gotten egg on him from the egg toss. He was taking his shirt off to clean it when we noticed that he still had his tat. "Still has that tat." Opie said.

"Yeah." I said as Opie and I followed Kyle and his son. We followed them into the gym where his son was getting his equipment so he could start setting up for the show.

"Hey I'll meet you outside all right?" Kyle said and his son nodded. "Hey I've been doing what Jax asked. I'm staying clear of everyone."

Opie POV

"I think you and I need to settle a few things." I said.

"Yeah I guess we do." Kyle said. Sorry Bells.

"I'll leave you two to talk." Jax said walking out.

"I wanted to come up to Chino to try to explain what happened." Kyle said.

"But you didn't." I said.

"Coming up on family day didn't feel right. You know, taking time away from Donna and the kids and -" He said as I cut him off punching him in the jaw.

About ten minutes later, Jax walked back in as Kyle and I were cleaning up. "See you two have been talking." He said.

"Yep." I said. Bells was gonna be pissed but there was nothing I could do about it now. I turned and looked at Kyle. "You seem to be doing all right. New truck."

"Nice piece of ass." Jax said.

"Yeah I guess." Kyle said. He sighed. "I miss it, man. I miss it all. I mean, when I had that Kutte on, everybody knew who I was. Even if I'd never met them, man, I got instant respect." He put his shirt back on as did I. "Now I'm just like every other shithead."

"You started telling me something earlier. Stolen parts thing." Jax said.

"Yeah. I'd love to bring it to the club. Let you guys share in the pie." Kyle said. "It's my way of saying sorry."

I gave Jax a look, he stared back at me with the same thought. "We could run it by Clay." I said.

"Yeah?" Kyle asked.

"Yeah." Jax said. "It's kind of a complicated time for us right now. So we should probably do it tonight while you're still in town."

"Yeah, absolutely." Kyle said.

"What about your kid's band?" I asked.

"Oh hey it's cool. I can hear him play some other time." Kyle said. What a douche. Wasn't that the whole point of him coming?

"All right." Jax said. "I'll make the call."

Gemma POV

Tig had just come to tell me that Clay had called all the guys back to the Clubhouse. I was pissed. "It sucks being boss don't it?" Unser asked me as he walked up eating a corn dog.

I put my hands on my hips. "You know that fried shit's gonna kill you." I said.

"Yeah, cause the cancer's keeping me fit and spunky." He said.

I looked over at the Charming P.D. booth and saw the fed that had been poking around. "Hey who's that guy behind the grill?" I asked him.

"That's our new best friend. Agent Kohn, ATF." Unser said.

Fucking A. "The fed looking into the club is grilling sausages?"

"Must be part of his special federal training." Unser said as he picked up a bowl of chili. "Good Chili."

I was about to grab my phone and call Clay when I spotted Jax. I marched over to him. "You tell Clay I'm pissed off. Bad enough his sorry ass isn't here. Now he's taking all my manpower." I said.

"Who's that guy with the cops?" He asked me, knowing full well who he was talking about.

"That's your ATF guy." I said.

"That guy was at the hospital last night watching me with Abel." Jax said.

Fuck. "That's dangerous brother." Tig said.

"Shit." I said.

"Well you keep an eye on him. He follows us out of here or leaves at any point, you give me a call." Jax said.

I nodded. "Prepay?"

"Yeah." He said.

Jax POV… Clubhouse

"Clay it's good to see you, man." Kyle said as tried to get a handshake from Clay but it failed.

"So, I hear you have an offer I can't refuse." Clay said.

"Something like that." Kyle said.

Clay passed around beers. Opie and I stepped off to the side. "Well, I'd better get back to the fireworks. Or your mom's gonna be stuffing gunpowder up my ass." Ope said.

"Yeah. Hopefully Bells hasn't noticed your disappearing trick. I'm sure that we're all on Gemma's shit list by now." I said. I knew what we had to do with Kyle. As much as I knew that Opie needed it, he needed to focus on his family and the life that he seemed to be building with Bells more. "You okay with this?" I asked.

"Yeah. You?"

I nodded. "I'm good."

Bells POV

I was going to kill him. I'd gone looking for Ope a little bit ago and I couldn't find him. When I'd spotted Gemma she'd told me that he'd disappeared with Jax. I had this feeling in the pit of my stomach that he'd lied to me and gotten revenge on Kyle. Kyle was bad news that much I knew. The other thing that I knew was that I was falling in love with Ope. I already loved the kids and I think that they loved me too. At some point I knew that Ope and I were going to have to talk about where we were headed. Especially before we even thought about having sex.

The kids and I had finally managed to find Ope behind the school where he was setting up the fireworks. Kenny ran towards him as soon as he saw him. Ellie stayed in stride with me for a minute until we got a little bit closer then she took off running towards him. When I'd finally made it to Ope, he had this reassuring smile on his face. "We missed you." I said.

He leaned toward me and kissed me. "I missed you too." He said.

The kids had found a spot nearby to sit. They were out of earshot. "Your in the doghouse. You know that right?" I asked him with a smirk on my face.

"It's not as bad as you think." He said.

"You can tell me later at home." I said.

A/N: That's chapter 6. Things are starting to heat up between Opie and Bella. Their both thinking serious thoughts, but will they tell the other. Edward and Emmett are in Charming. Edward has spotted Bella now he's got to formulate a plan. Kohn has made his presence known to Tara. Things are about to get interesting in Charming. How do you think Tig is gonna feel about Bella and Opie getting serious?
