Chapter 26: Potlatch

Jax POV

I was glad to be home. I hate jail. Especially Stockton. I was currently sitting at my kitchen table when Tara walked in. "I finished it." She said tossing my Dad's manuscript on the table.

"What do you want me to say?" I asked.

"Keep saying you wanna change things but you keep repeating old behavior. Can't have it both ways."

"Is there anything you love so much you'd protect is no matter the cost?" I asked her. "The damage It did to you?"

"Yeah, a child." She said.

"That's how I feel about this club. Since I was five, all I ever wanted was a Harley and a cut. Look change won't happen quick. Or without blood. But it'll happen. It has to. See you later." I said kissing her cheek and throwing my Kutte on.

Bella POV

After we'd briefly seen my dad last night, Ope and I had gone home and I'd slept the best I had in a long time. But I knew the reasons why I hadn't been sleeping good. Gemma. Miscarriage. Zobelle. Dad. Hopefully things would get better (even though Jax and Clay had fought in jail).

I was in the kitchen cooking breakfast when Dad walked in. "Morning." He said.

"Morning. How'd you sleep?" I asked him.

"Great. Thanks for letting me stay." He said.

I nodded. "No problem. What's going on with Jax and Clay?" I asked, getting right to the point.

"Not your business." Dad told me.

I turned toward him and pointed my spatula at him. "Somebody needs to straighten them out."

"Bells…Stay out of it." I heard Ope say from the table.

"Your siding with Dad?" I asked.

"On this?" He asked and I nodded. "Yes, I am. It's between Jax and Clay. They'll figure it out."

"Fine." I said.

Gemma POV

Clay and I were sitting at the table going thru our morning routine when I said, "I want to do a dinner tonight. Everyone."

"Not a good time."

"It's the perfect time." I said, and Clay glared at me. "We need it."

"Do what you gotta do." Clay said, finally.

Jax POV

"What did you tell Stahl?" I asked Hale.

"There's nothing to tell." He said.

"Bullshit! ATF's looking into Zobelle and the Irish." I said. I was pissed off.

"She's not digging into SAMCRO. She's doing her job. She wants the supplier." He said.

"I got no delusions about us being on the same side but we both know that Zobelle and this ATF bitch are bad for Charming."

"You were right. Zobelle doesn't make mistakes. He's protected." Hale said.

"My god! ATF can't touch the league." I said. It was all starting to make sense.

"FBI's looking into white hate."

"Right. That's why Stahl needs us." I said.

"And why would the Feds need you?" He asked. "Sons just being mechanics and all."

"Big picture, deputy. Look at it."

Bella POV

After I dropped the kids off at school, I headed to the garage. Gem had called and said that she was going to be late.

I was sitting in the office when Uncle Hap walked in. "Hey kid." He said.

"Hey Uncle Hap. What's up?" I said leaning back in my chair.

"Jax talks to you right?" He asked me.

I nodded. "Yeah some."

"He say anything about this fight with Clay?" Uncle Hap asked me.

"I haven't seen him today. Besides Dad and Ope told me to stay out of it." I told him. He gave me a look. "What?"

"Bobby's asking us to dig into it. What the hell is going on around here?" He said out loud.

A little while later, Jax and Gem both had pulled in. Jax headed into the clubhouse and Gem headed into the office where I was. When she walked in, she stared at me. "What?" She asked.

"The entire club is in an uproar over this fight with Jax and Clay." I said.

"I know." She said.

"You know?" She nodded. "So what're you gonna do about it?"

"We're gonna have a dinner." She said.

"A dinner?" I asked.

She nodded again. "Yes, a dinner. It'll bring everyone together and remind them about the fact that we're family."

"I hope your right Aunt Gem." I said.

Chibs POV

I opened my eyes and looked around. The hospital. Great. I looked to the right and couldn't believe what I was seeing. "Fiona?" I said.

"Mornin'" She said.

"Jesus. What the hell are you doing here?" I asked.

"I heard about what happened. We were worried." She said. She leaned over and kissed my cheek. "That's from Kerrianne."

"You alone?" I asked her, knowing that Jimmy didn't let her go far.

"Doesn't matter. Came to see you. How are you feeling?" She asked.

"Like I was blown up. Doctor says I'm healing." I told her.

"I'm glad." She said.

"Bad idea you coming here." I said, weakly. Suddenly I was getting tired.

"My life is a series of bad ideas, lovey." She said.

Gemma POV

While the guys were handling shit, I decided to leave Bella at the garage and head over to St. Thomas to check on Chibs. When I walked into his room, I was surprised at who I saw. "You're a long way from home, sweetheart." I said.

"Yes. I am." She said.

"Why?"

"I was worried about him." She said.

"Could've sent flowers." I said.

"Just needed to see him, Gemma." She said.

"We are in a shitstorm here. The last thing we need is you turning him inside out."

Just then the door opened and Tara walked in. "Hello." Tara said.

"Dr. Knowles, Fiona Larkin." I said.

"Nice to meet you. I'm afraid ICU is for immediate family members only." Tara said.

"She is family." I said.

"I'm his wife." Fiona said.

A little while later….

"I didn't know Chibs was married." Tara said as we followed Fiona down the hall.

"They never got divorced. It's been a long time since they were together." I said.

"Sounds like she's not a favorite."

"There's only been three women I'm afraid of…my mother, my third grade math teacher and that Irish Bitch. Where's Chibs at…his insurance shit?" I said.

"He'll be off critical in a day or two. He'll have to finish his recovery at Stockton." Tara said.

Oh no! "That can't happen. Not with her around. He can't be out of our sight." I said.

"There's nothing I can do." Tara said.

"There's always something we can do."

Tara looked over at the Nurse's station. "You see that redhead?" She asked, I nodded. "Margaret Murphy, chief administrator. She has been up my ass about the club. I try anything, she'll be all over it. It can't happen." She said

Bella POV

About 4 O'clock, I asked Dog to close up for me so that I could head home and fix something for Gem's potluck. When the kids and I arrived at Gemma's, I felt like I had just walked into a war zone. "What?" I heard Gemma ask Tara.

"This is a hostile work environment claim filed against me by Margaret Murphy." Tara said.

I pushed the kids toward the back door. "Are you kidding me? What a bunch of pussies." Gem said.

"You threatened her." Tara said.

"What's going on?" I asked but was ignored.

"I had a passionate conversation with her." Gem said, this was starting to make sense.

"This is my livelihood. Do you have any idea how hard I've worked to get to where I am?" She asked Gemma.

"I get it." I said. They both turned and looked at me. Then Tara turned back to Gem.

"Do you? This could cost me my goddamn job! The club is the club, my life is my life. Stay out of it!" Tara yelled. Just then Lyla walked in with her kid. "Perfect! Serving hand jobs for dessert?"

"That's real nice in front of my kid." She said.

I ushered Piper outside where Kenny and Ellie were and I followed Lyla so that I could try and stop her.

"Where you guys going?" Ope asked me.

"Home." Lyla said. "I am tired of taking abuse. That doctor's an arrogant bitch."

I looked at Jax. "Sorry. Tara's in a pissy mood and she's fighting with your mother and taking it out on others. Including me!" I said.

"Jesus Christ, here we go. Dinner with Mom." Jax said as they walked into the house.

Jax POV

I walked in and quickly found Tara. "Can you ease up on Lyla?" I asked her.

"She just…" Tara tried to say. "I know…doing her best. But Bella what's going on with her. She's never walked out on me." Tara said rolling her eyes. I keep hanging out with this family and I may be sucking cock to pay my bills too."

"What the hell's the matter with you?" I asked her.

"Ask your mother." She said as she walked into the dining room.

Bella POV

When I walked back into Gem's Hale was walking out. When I got to the living room Clay and Jax were arguing. "You're as blind as you are crippled." Jax said.

"The blind guy's in jail with no wife 'cause you just got her killed." Clay said. Luann was dead?

"I'm not the one trying to murder women!" Jax yelled and we all turned to look at him.
