I AM ME!
"Is that a VHS?" Garfield heard Kid Flash say.
He was about to respond to the not-so-subtle jab at the older system right after inserting the tape and before hitting play, but Garfield was interrupted.
Super-boy said "Wait! Aircraft headed this way!"
As soon as he was done speaking, he moved towards the door with Kid Flash and Robin following.
Robin stopped and turned back towards Garfield looking him dead in the eye saying "Garfield, stay put!"
Garfield was fully intent on doing exactly what the superhero told him to do but... The animals were locked up in the barn.
Moving quickly to the underground tunnel the Logans had built to get to the barn in case of an emergency, Garfield rode the wheeled platform through the tunnel to the barn entrance and quickly went about opening the stalls they had just recently placed the Wildebeest and the Gazelle in.
Running to the big barn door to let the animals out, Garfield heard his mom asking about him in a panicked voice, so he shouted to her "Mom, its ok. I got the animals out!"
Waving so she could see him, Garfield heard what sounded to him like a chainsaw getting closer and so he turned to look. But all he saw was some dirt puffing up like something was hitting the dirt hard and moving in his direction. Then he was thrown through the air in surprise with a loud booming noise and heat all around him.
Feeling someone catch him, Garfield turned to see the green version of his mom with him in her arms, and then Garfield just blacked out.
Next thing he knew, Garfield was waking up in his room with an IV in his arm running to a blood pack hanging near his bed.
His mother was sitting in a chair and half lying on his bed as she slept with her head on his lap.
Curious about how it felt, Garfield started stroking her hair and was surprised at how calming it was.
With a soft moan, she started to wake up and then jerked herself upright and looked at Garfield with a trace of panic still in her half-awake eyes.
Seeing me awake her eyes softened and then they got the hard piercing look every child knew to dread. "What were you thinking?" she shouted.
"I had to save the animal's mother; they couldn't run because we put them in a pen!" Garfield defended his actions.
Careful to not hurt him, she hugged him fiercely, "You are so much more important to me Garfield."
Garfield felt her tears make his shirt wet and didn't say anything further.
Looking to change the subject, he quipped "Good thing the blood packs survived, though to be honest I always thought it was weird to have bags of blood sitting around because of me."
Looking at him with fear returning to her eyes she said "They didn't survive the explosion Garfield, and none of the guys were a match to you so Miss Martian had to change her blood to match yours. We were very lucky she was able to do it, or I would have lost you forever. We still don't know if there will be any side effects, so you must tell me if anything feels weird. Please son, it's very important!"
Hearing a scratch at the door she got up and opened it letting Monkey into the room who quickly ran to Garfield and sniffed where the IV was inserted after looking him over.
His mom picked Monkey up and placed him next to Garfield, Monkey then leaned his head on his human's head.
"Monkey was very worried about you and kept bringing you stuff, leaving it on your bed when you didn't react only to bring more stuff. I had to shut him out in case he woke you. Luckily, he didn't scream too loudly about the closed door."
[What about the mission the team was on?] Garfield thought, then another thought hit him superseding the previous one.
"You said Miss Martian was the one to give me blood?"
Seeing his mother nod, he shouted in glee "You mean I have a Martian blood brother? That's so cool!"
"Well, I believe it's more of a blood sister but yes, it was Martian blood changed to O- just for you." she chuckled.
"She left this phone number for us just in case she wasn't able to return, if we noticed any side effects due to the transfusion, we are supposed to call it. She said if there was an issue either her or her uncle would know what to do."
Garfield quickly memorized the number and then remembered to ask about the mission.
She said she didn't know so she turned on the TV to see if the news had anything, only to see the lone figure of Queen Bee standing outside the capitol building swearing vengeance for this act of outrage.
"Well seeing how mad Queen Bee is, I would think their mission was a success."
After that, his mom removed the IV and brought him something to eat to help replenish his strength, then he felt very tired, so his mother tucked him in for some more sleep. As he started to doze off, Garfield watched her take Monkey out with her and close the door softly.
Sometime after that, Garfield heard a whisper in his ear and then it felt like someone put an IV back into his arm and his last thought was of a gentle weight lying next to him in bed playing with his hair.
Knowledge unknown to Garfield Logan, but essential to understanding the scene.
After coming clean [Well mostly clean.] to the team and Marie Logan about why she chose the form of Megan to model her earthling look after, M'gann walked down the hall to check on the sleeping Garfield Logan. Her new blood brother.
She opened the door, planning to only peek at the sleeping redheaded child, however, she saw another person sitting on his bed beside him.
Softly calling out "Garfield?" Any other thought escaped her mind as she recognized the person sitting next to him and panic hit her.
Beautiful brown skin covered in a light grey outfit barely containing a body made for sin. A golden crown on her head and gold stinger earrings framed the face of Queen Bee, in all her majesty.
Queen Bee held a finger to her lips in a gesture of silence, "Shh, it would be a shame to wake him. I might have to order my little thrall here to damage himself."
M'gann, knowing the hypnotic effect Queen Bee had over human males of any age began to rage at the woman running her hand through Garfield's hair. Eyes glowing green, M'gann tensed herself to strike.
"uh-uh, he is already under orders to bite his tongue out if he wakes because anything happened to me."
M'gann relaxed her posture, and fear and worry showed in her eyes.
"Now, your performance of me was a bit over the top, I think. But then, you haven't practiced me the way you've perfected the role of Megan." Queen Bee stood up from Garfield's bed and slipped a vial of blood into her pocket without the Martian noticing.
M'gann knew Queen Bee was referring to the time she had morphed into the dictator form for the TV cameras to see her shouting for revenge after being thwarted for her takeover of the neighboring country. She never in a million years thought this would be the consequence of that act.
But then the rest of what Queen Bee said registered, [No way, she can't mean she knows my secret.]
"That's right, poor Psimon's not the only one who knows your true form." As she spoke, Queen Bee approached M'gann and placed her hands on the young martian's shoulders, her words confirming her worst fears.
"And if you don't cooperate... I'll make sure everyone knows what you really are." After leaving a way for them to stay in contact Queen Bee left out the window with none the wiser that she had taken the blood of Garfield Logan, which was mixed with M'gann M'orzz.
Suddenly Gar's eyes and mind refocused and he realized he was eye to eye with Monkey, jumping in fright he shouted "What was that? Why did you shove those memories into my head?"
Turning his head quizzically he said "I just opened up the memories in your blood. I find it weird that they end right there, that was definitely not the last time I saw you. Very curious!"
Gar felt his head trying to split apart until a sort of shift happened, where his life as Garfield Logan the soldier started to feel more like a movie, he watched hundreds of times.
"There, that should be better." Gar heard Monkey's voice say.
"Wait, I'm Garfield Logan! The 36-year-old solder looking to start a civilian life. I'm not 8 years old, barely halfway through elementary school!"
Clutching his head in pain, Garfield screamed into the Red that surrounded him.
Gar felt his voice go much lower pitched suddenly, and the growling tearing addition to his voice was much more in tune with the rage he felt. Gar continued the roar until his enormous chest was devoid of air.
Still feeling the rage in his head and fire in his heart, Gar looked around for something to tear and shred with his claws before that thought caused him to pause.
[Claws? Since when did I have those?]
Trying to calm down, Gar focused on one thing at a time unit he could fully understand it.
[I am Garfield Logan, check].
[I was clenching and unclenching a paw in front of my snout. Check]
[That paw was VERY large and green. Check]
Feeling all the energy leave him as his hand and body returned to normal, Gar fell to his knees and spaced out again trying to work his way through this.
"Wow, you regained yourself very fast. In this place, that's no mean feat." Gar heard Monkey's voice say.
Turning to his voice, Gar about shit a brick big enough to build a house.
He was staring at a green Super Saiyan 4. Green hairy arms and stomach, bare green chest and a hairdo reminiscent of a close call with an electrical socket.
"Monkey, I'm seriously about to lose my mind here! Can you break this down 'Army Private' stupid for me?" Gar requested.
"Well Gar, as far as I can now tell. You are in a body that has 8 years of blood memory I can read, that looks 16 years old, with powers you never showed in all my memory of spending 10 years with you."
"You also have memories that have 36 years of life in you, where even The Red doesn't have the format for some of the animals you have seen."
"Like this form, I am currently enjoying, and a giant spined lizard that breaths massive amounts of energy for an attack who, by the way, beat a giant ape with a low blow and a lucky shot."
Squatting down to look at Gar eye to eye again, "Was that 'Army Private' enough or do I need to go 'Marine' for you?"
"No need for low blows, Monkey!" Looking around, Gar then asked, "What can you tell me about this Mars-looking landscape?"
Spreading his arms out, Monkey answers, "This my boy is The Red, the Cosmic flow of all animal life in the universe. If it lived its records are here."
"Interesting claim for something that has no formats for animals I have seen don't you think?" Gar snidely replied.
"You my boy are an anomaly; your memory doesn't fit this particular Universe and as such you are a treasure trove in the fight against The Black. As well as for the continuation of The Red!" Monkey said to him.
"What is The Black and The Red to each other?" Gar asked.
Taking a moment. as if to gather his thoughts, Monkey Replied "You know of the Infinity stones; I vaguely see that in your memory. But what you don't seem to know is that while the stones were all part of the Multiversal container of the beginning. It was the Cosmic Red, Green and Black flowing that provided the pressure to blow the container wide open to what we have now."
"Before you ask, The Green is all plant life in the cosmic flow and The Black is the Decay of all at the end."
