Chapter 17
The sun came slowly down, shining through the obscure room, where a young girl was currently cutely snoring. A group of adults slowly made their way in, whispering and trying to not make too much sound.
"Everyone, is ready?" One of them whispered.
"Yeah, we are."
"Hey, prongs, her snoring is like yours!"
"Shut up!"
"Shhh! Now at the count of three! One, two… three!"
"Happy birthday, Harriet!"
The adults yelled while using their wands to conjure some small fireworks, and while it may be a rather endearing view for any child, for Harriet, who was peacefully at sleep, in her dreaming world. It was hell.
"Onigiri!"
Harriet only screamed with a heavy Japanese accent. She was dreaming of a beautiful dream, where she was eating so much Japanese cuisine, that she was in heaven. But, like always, reality stopped Harriet's dream, and that reality was her parents, smiling at her brightly. She only stare at a group of adults who were looking at her with an amused face. Yet, it took a few seconds for Harriet to realize what was happening. It was her birthday, and she should have known, but like before. Harriet was always focused on other things that she simply forgot.
"Ah… happy birthday?" Harriet said, with a still sleepy voice.
"Happy birthday? This is not how a twelve-year-old should react!" Sirius said while attacking his goddaughter with tickles, and that was enough for Harriet to wake up. Sirius' tickles were ruthless on her body, and the rest could see it. Yet, it was such a beautiful sight, and Lily took the opportunity to take pictures to remember the moment.
"S-Stop it! Padfoot! Mom, dad…!"
Harriet could barely speak, but her smile was authentic, so she did laugh loudly.
"Alright, Sirius, stop before you kill my child," James said, smiling.
Sirius chuckled as Harriet was trying her hardest to breathe again.
"There! She is now awake. You're both welcome," Sirius said, smirking.
"Thank you, Sirius, now, Harriet, would you like to see your presents?" Lily said.
"Presents? You didn't have to," Harriet said while adjusting her fluffy hair. Day by day, Harriet was slowly growing, and now both parents could see it. James cringed at the sight of her daughter growing figure, and Lily knew she would have to give the talk soon. Both of them would have to. Since Harriet seemed to be maturing faster than other kids. Yet, that was for later. Now, they just wanted to enjoy their child's birthday.
"Oh, but we truly want it! And not only us, but all your friends, and, well… your mate."
Harriet nodded softly, noticing how her mother's face seemed still troubled by the prospect of her having a mate or wife, technically speaking. But it seems Lily was getting used to it. Besides, it makes things easier for them. Now, they don't have to worry about Harriet being forced to marry someone in the future, and other nuisance that came with many old laws. They were someone would try to do something, but now Harriet wasn't alone. Fleur's family, and the entire Veela community, were behind her and would protect her without a doubt. Also, there was something that made Harriet happy, and it was how she was technically an adult now. Kind of.
Under the French magical law, as a mated witch. Harriet was now an adult. Well, theoretically speaking. She was still underage, yes, and not truly an adult. Well, physically speaking. But if things went south, she could go to France, and there. No one in Britain wouldn't be able to touch her. Also, since she was now recognized by magic as a mated witch. Her family could go directly to the ICW and ask for support from them. Since she was protected by international law, and no one, not even those annoying lords from the Dark faction, would do anything about it. Also, she had some privileges from what she found out.
A soul bond was so rare these days that Harriet would be receiving visits not only from some members of the ICW but from other half-breed species. And why would that be good for her? Well, it was the perfect opportunity to get more people to her side. She was already popular with her "discovering" of the Lycanthropy cure. Now, that she was the soul-mate of a Veela, just added more layers to her history.
Harriet could ask for protection from the ICW, and not even Dumbledore, with the entire Wizengamot, or that snake guy could do something about it. She could use all of this, in order to push forwards legislations on her name, sneakily, of course. That was incredibly powerful, and she would need to be careful. But her parents saw it too and were already thinking about doing something in order to get Dumbledore, and Voldemort dealt with. Since, if Voldemort were to return, which he will. The ICW would have to answer.
Harriet could do more things, with her new rights as a married young girl, as crazy as it may sound, and she would use that advantage in the future. Besides, Fleur was hot, so it was a win-win scenario for her in everything.
But Harriet still believes. Her family was still going to fight to remove those archaic laws from the Britain Magical World and avoid more problems. But it was a breath of fresh air, to be allowed to just not think about it too much. So, she just went with her day and followed her family to the living room.
And there, Harriet saw a giant pile of gifts and she could only sigh with a smile.
"They didn't have to give me anything, really."
Harriet said softly, while her mother brought a large strawberry cake.
"Please, dear, don't think like that. They love you!"
"I know, and that is all I want," Harriet said, gently.
"And this is the way they want to show it," Remus replied.
"Indeed, now, why don't you open some?" James added.
Harriet nodded and started to open the gifts before she heard her grandmother from the portraits.
"Where is my beautiful grandchild?!" Euphemia said, with the biggest smile on her face, while Fleamont also arrived next to his wife.
"I am here, grandmother," Harriet said while looking at the portrait.
"Ah, look at you! So beautiful! You look so different! Twelve years old, a young lady in the making! I can't believe you grow up so fast, surely flies by," Euphemia said, sobbing, all dramatically.
"You see me every day," Harriet replied, amused by her grandmother's shenanigans.
"I know, I know, is just that you are growing so fast," Euphemia said.
"Easy there, dear," Fleamont said, with a soft smile.
"You didn't cry on my birthdays," James muttered.
"Uf, you're not my granddaughter! And you're not as cute as her!"
"I am your son!"
"An ugly one!"
"Betray… pain… what you do this to me? My own mother?"
Harriet just chuckled at the antics of her family, so she just continues to see the many gifts from her friends. Neville, her sweet Neville, sent her garner of roses, with many chocolates and a very beautiful letter. Harriet smiled at it. Daphne sent her a cheesecake of white chocolate, and a cute little draw of her. Harriet didn't know Daphne could draw until now. Perhaps she was hiding that ability, she didn't know. Tracey sent her a book about magical bugs and cookies in the form of spiders. Weird, but Harriet loved it, oddly enough.
Hannah, being the sweet cake, she was. Took her time to make a pillow. Hannah made a pillow for her. It was a pillow representing the Fellowship of the Ring traveling to the mountains. Harriet was surprised by how well the embroidery looked. It was almost like the scene of the movie, which it won't be out, until a few years later. An event that Harriet would never miss. Yet, she was so happy to see it there.
Susan, the red-haired girl, made her a cake of blueberries and cream. Now she had two cakes to eat, and she would eat them both. She doesn't want to be rude after all.
Blaise's present was quite representative of Blaise as a whole. It was a book about how to build an empire, with a letter that just said. As expected of Harriet! Weird stuff, but it was Blaise. So, it was as she expected of him.
Harriet then just laughs at the gift of Nymphadora. It was an enormous collection of underwear for her, and surprise, surprise. A box of Twinkies. Where did she get them? Harriet would never know.
Hermione's gift was rather cute. It was a simple heart-shaped box of chocolates, with a note, that says. "With love to my best friend!" The note said. Hermione could be so adorable without realizing it.
"So much chocolate," Remus noticed.
"And is all for me!" Harriet replied with a teasing smile.
Harriet then saw a pink box with heart-shaped chocolate on it, and she knew it belong to Fleur. It even smells like her. A soft essence of nature, with delicious blueberries and roses. It was a gentle sweetie smell that Harriet kind of likes a lot. Harriet opened, and she gasped, surprised.
"Whoa! Look what Fleur gave me," Harriet said, showing a beautiful necklace. It was a choker necklace, a beautiful one at that, made out of blue small diamonds, and there was a small locket holding a gorgeous red stone. It was mesmerizing, truly wonderful.
"That looks like an expensive necklace," Remus noted.
"Well, that French girl wants to spoil my daughter. I guess I'll allow it," James said, smiling.
"I don't think that's just a necklace. I think that's a family heirloom," Lily replied, as she stared at the many blue diamonds, especially the red stone.
"Mm, now that you say it. It surely feels magical. Perhaps, a charm?" Sirius said, intrigued.
"Perhaps," Lily said.
Harriet wasn't paying attention, since she was busy reading the letter, and her parents then saw. How her daughter was blushing, heavily. It was such a rare sight that both Lily and James were now curious to see what does the letter said.
"So, what does my daughter-in-law write for you?" James said, as he was trying to sneak a glance at the letter, making Harriet squeal a bit, while she brought the letter to her chest. Her blushing cheeks were incredibly red, and it made them even more curious.
"Nothing! You're not supposed to read it, only me! Get away from me!" Harriet exclaimed.
"Oh, alright now I am intrigued too!" Sirius was now trying to take a glance, so Harriet hug the letter tightly.
"Leave me alone, or I'll scream! Mom!" Harriet exclaimed, embarrassed.
"Stop it, both of you, leave my daughter and her naughty letter alone," Lily said with a teasing smile.
"It's not really that… naughty," Harriet whispered, while the rest of the table simply laughed.
Harriet then saw two more gifts, and she tried to look for a note anywhere. But found nothing. It was one big box, and a small one and Harriet then realized that they weren't from anyone she knew. That's why she let her magic fool around those boxes. After what took place last year. Harriet has spent a lot of time getting better at how to use her magic to detect charms that could hurt her. She had to thank her father for the lessons. So, when she noticed those strange box gifts. She wasted no time letting her family know.
"Mom, dad, those two boxes… they don't have a name… or anything," Harriet said, suspiciously.
It was all she needed to say before both Lily and James went and change their entire demeanor. James pulled his wand and immediately started to mutter some words, and Lily wasted no time before she did the same. Remus and Sirius took Harriet away from those gifts and waited.
"I detect nothing wrong with them," James said.
"Yeah, me neither. But it is strange that these boxes made it here. Don't you think? I don't remember picking those gifts," Lily said suspiciously.
"Could it be someone pampered with our minds?" James muttered.
"I doubt it, James," Sirius said.
"I could ask Dorca to check both of you," Remus said.
"That would be a great idea, but what are those two gifts? What are inside?" Sirius added, as Harriet only stared at them.
"Let's find out, shall we?" Lily said. "Sirius, do you know the Praesidium spell?"
"I do."
"Please cast it, Remus, please help us, and Harriet, dear, please stay behind Remus."
Lily looked at her husband, who nodded at her. Then she slowly opened the first gift, and nothing happened. But inside the box was a letter with a broken locket. It was a green locket of sorts, strange and old.
"What is that?" James asked.
"A locket… but, wait… it doesn't look like a normal locket," Lily muttered, as she then carefully read the note left behind.
"The real one is not in the cave anymore… is hidden somewhere. The real… Horcrux is not here."
Lily paled as she now realized what the locket was.
"Wait! That was a Horcrux?!" Sirius exclaimed.
"A Horcrux?! Get that thing out of my house!" Euphemia shrieked from the portrait, as Fleamont was calming her down.
"Easy there, love, easy," Fleamont said.
"No, this is a fake one from what it says… the real one must be somewhere," James replied with disgust.
"A Horcrux… so he truly did it," Lily muttered.
"Who wrote the letter?" James asked.
"It only says, P.A. I don't know if that is even a name… but he knows about Voldemort… and his Horcruxes," Lily wondered who that person would be. It was rather scary to know that someone not only discovered Voldemort's Horcrux but also the fact that Voldemort did such a despicable act. Yet, they now have confirmation, but the locket was interesting. There was a snake on it, and it seems valuable, even though it was a fake one. It means that the real one was important and unique. Now Lily had something to do. Yet, there was still one packet left.
Lily got ready and so did James, and carefully. They opened the next gift, the small box. There, they saw a ring and another letter. Lily slowly took the small note and frowned at the words written in there.
"What is it, Lily?" James asked.
"It says that this ring belongs to the Gaunt's family… that it was a Horcrux, but not anymore. He claims that this ring belongs to Harriet now and that she should claim it."
"What?" Harriet replied, baffled.
"This is getting weirder, James. Who is this person?" Sirius asked.
"I don't know… what else does it say, Lily?" James asked anxiously.
"It just says Happy Birthday, Harriet and that soon... it all will make sense," Lily whispered, puzzled.
"Uh, what...?" Harriet replied, baffled.
"It's a ring…?" Remus asked.
"This is a strange ring, very strange," James muttered while inspecting it. Yet, there was nothing on it that makes him doubt it was dangerous. At least so far, but he would not give it to his child. Not until he was sure it was safe, but even then. It was an unknown ring from an unknown person. He truly just wanted to throw it away. But there was a strange symbol on the ring, and he was sure he has seen it before.
"Those are some strange gifts," Harriet whispered.
"Indeed, these are strange," James said.
Harriet only stared at the ring and frowned. It was surely the start of a new year. But the ring did bring attention to her, and she didn't know why.
"Dad, can I see the ring?" James look at Harriet, but he saw those eyes and knew her daughter was serious. She wanted to see something. He was not paying attention.
"Harriet…"
"Please, I need to see it… just to check something," Harriet pleaded.
James looked at Lily, who was also troubled. Yet, he only sighed. "Alright, but you'll give it right away."
Harriet nodded, and the moment she took it. At the moment, she did. Harriet had a quick sensation of images going through her head. It was fast, but she saw it clearly, things that weren't her own, and it wasn't all.
"The master of Death!"
2/3 Items!
"Harriet, did something happen? Are you alright?" Lily asked with worry.
"I touch it, and some images came to my head… they weren't mine. They were like memories? Flashbacks?" Harriet muttered.
"Like what?" Lily asked again, looking at her daughter's intrigue.
"A… cave? Then… seven little rocks? A scream and… it was from Voldemort. He was in pain."
They were all silent.
"Lily, what does it mean?" Remus asked.
"Dark magic, especially black magic, can leave traces behind… if this ring was a Horcrux, then when Harriet touch it…" Lily muttered trying to think of something.
"It interacted with Harriet, but it seems that what trace was left in the ring is long gone," Fleamont added, making everyone quiet.
Lily's mind couldn't think of something else, but what could it mean? Those images. The ring, and the strange person called P.A.
"Well, everyone. This was quite the birthday present," Harriet muttered, wondering what more would happen from now on. She was not very excited.
Harriet sighed as everyone was ready to leave for Diagon Alley. The last day was quite the event. The strange letter and gifts have let to her family to spend an entire night searching for anything. Her mother, Lily, was truly in the search of something, and it was the locket origin. The true one, and while everything was going on. Harriet couldn't stop thinking about the mysterious ally they now have and wondered who could it be.
"P. A? I wonder who that person could be."
Yet, it seems that whoever that person was. They own him one. Since now, they have confirmation about Voldemort's Horcrux. It was now time to search for them, and Harriet was already thinking how. Well, maybe.
Harriet had a lot to do. Those Horcruxes had to be somewhere, and if what her mother says was true, which it was, obviously. Then, there could be a way to locate those things and destroy them. Then, Voldemort would be exposed, and once he was. She would make sure to make him suffer.
"Not yet, not yet."
Harriet whispered as she got ready to leave her room.
However, Harriet won't lie and say she wasn't intrigued about the whole concept of immortality, or how far could one go in magic. Especially in the world, she was in right now. She has been practicing her magic more, both of them. Harriet was sure she could create more, experiment more. She just needs time. But all in due time.
"Hedwig, are you ready?"
Harriet asked her own, who only scoffed at her.
"I'll take that as a yes… mm, yet why are you so heavy? Did you grow fat?" Harriet said, scandalized.
The snow-white owl only screeched, insulted, as she bit Harriet's fingers.
"Ow! Don't be so rude!"
Harriet and her bossy owl left the room with all her stuff behind her. There, in the living, her family was waiting for her. But she did notice how tired her mother was. Harriet knew that the moment she leaves for Hogwarts. Her mother would leave as well. It seems that she wanted to investigate something with some of her colleagues. A Horcrux was a piece of evil magic, black magic. So, perhaps, Lily was looking for something specific. What it was? It was hard to say. But, Lily seems to think, that there could be something that could help them to locate the rest of the Horcrux. James even look worrisome, and so was the rest. But they were all truly trying to push it away for now.
Harriet would do her own investigation, of course, and well, she was going right to the heart of the problem. Hogwarts. If there was something that could lead her to one of that snake guy's secrets. It would be there.
Harriet and her family arrived at the Leaky Cauldron first, before they began their shopping streak. They needed to wait for someone that would soon start her new year on Hogwarts with Harriet, and it didn't take long before they arrived.
Lady Delacour, her husband, and Fleur appeared from the Floo network and it didn't take long enough before Fleur ran towards Harriet, her beloved mate. Harriet was surprised by how fast Fleur could move.
"Mon amour!"
Fleur hugged Harriet and kissed her cheeks multiple times.
"It's good to see you, Fleur," Harriet replied, smiling as her cheeks were being marked by Fleur's lipstick.
"Where is your little sister?" Harriet asked.
"With grandmother, she is quite lazy, and wanted to stay home eating," Fleur said with a sigh.
"I think, both of us will get along just fine," Harriet said, earning a chuckle from Fleur.
"Did you like my present?" Fleur asked with a bright smile.
Harriet chuckled, as she shows off her neck, where Fleur's necklace was, and the French girl only sobbed dramatically.
"You look beautiful, mom amour," Fleur said, sobbing.
She is so cute when she is sobbing. Harriet thought, with an amused smile.
"Alright, is alright. Are you ready to get your supplies?" Harriet asked gently.
Fleur only nodded as she took Harriet's hand and both waited for her parents, who were only staring at the scene with smiles on their faces. But they moved on, and when Diagon Alley opened. It was time for them to move on.
"Alright, we need to get your clothes, books, a few cauldrons," Apolline whispered as she was starting to read the note, to which Fleur sighed.
"Mother, you have read the note for two weeks," Fleur said.
"I know, I know, is just… you'll be far away. Momma is sad," Apolline whispered.
Lily could comprehend what poor Apolline feels. If she was in her shoes, and it was Harriet moving out to Beauxbatons, Lily would be as emotional as her. Yet, it was Fleur, the one moving to Hogwarts just so she could be next to Harriet. That's why she would do her best to accommodate Apolline.
"I'll help you with anything," Lily said.
"Thank you, lady Potter," Apolline replied with a smile.
"Mom, I'll help Fleur get some of the books, and maybe the others would be there," Harriet said.
"Alright, dear. We'll meet you at Flourish and Blotts."
Harriet and Fleur walked, leaving behind the adults, and started to enjoy their little time together. Yet, it didn't take long enough until they found the other kids, who seemed to be on a mission of their own. Harriet discovered Tracey being kicked out of a store where many animals, especially bugs, were being sold, and from what she could see. The owner was quite angry.
"Little prat! Stop eating the bugs!"
"It's not my fault they are tasty! Yer awfy crabbit!" Tracey yelled back, in a very thick Scottish accent.
"Leave, now!"
"Hey, this is brutality and unfair treatment of a young lady! You lavvy heid! You bloody… bloody you!"
Tracey yelled, not bothering to pay attention to the surrounding people.
"What are you all looking at?! Oh… hi, Harriet!"
Tracey said, smiling, as Harriet only stared at the cute brunette with an amused face, while Fleur only stared at Tracey with an exasperated face.
"What were you doing… there?" Harriet asked, with a raised eyebrow.
"Ah… you know… just checking the bugs… for my project."
"Oh, what type of project?" Harriet asked, hiding her high amusement at the face of Tracey, who looked like a confused deer on the headlight.
"A project… about bugs… and how they taste," Tracey muttered.
"Ah… just be careful… I guess?" Harriet replied, now very concerned about Tracey's sudden fascination for bugs' flavor. She turned to Fleur, who was looking at the sky while muttering something she couldn't hear. But then took a deep breath and smiled.
"We hope your project is… doing well," Fleur said with a forced smile, to which Tracey only laugh nervously.
"Ye-yeah! Thank you!" Tracey said, trying to look confident.
"Tracey!"
The girls then saw Daphne with a worried look on her face, as she noticed Harriet and Fleur there. Then, then a troubled face appeared, which Harriet was confused to look at.
"Where were you?! We had a… talk!" Daphne hissed, nervously.
"I was… you know," Tracey stuttered.
"She got caught eating bugs," Fleur said with a smile.
"I knew it," Daphne sighed.
"Sorry," Tracey responded.
Harriet stared at the group, wondering what was going on. But the girls quickly interrupted her thoughts.
"Ah, Harriet! The rest are waiting for you! You're looking for Fleur's books, right?"
"Uh, yeah… how do you know?" Harriet asked, confused.
"Um, let's go!" Daphne said, nervously, as Fleur took a deep breath through her nose.
Fleur took Harriet's hand and guided her to Flourish and Blotts, where she saw Hermione speaking to Blaise, which he seemed rather intrigued about something. Then she saw Hannah, Susan, and Neville arriving. They look serious for a few moments, but then change their gestures at the arrival of Harriet, who tilted her head at them. They were acting quite strange today. She wondered why.
"Hello everyone, what is everyone so jumpy? It just looks like everyone is in a sort of conspiracy," Harriet asked, intrigued, and everyone scoffed anxiously.
"Oh, is just the start of a new year. Everyone is nervous and so, nothing to worry about."
Neville replied quickly.
"Ah, sure… where is Nymphadora?"
"Buying Quidditch stuff," Hannah replied, to which Harriet groaned, remembering that she already has her uniform ready to be used.
"Yeah, so fun."
Harriet drawled, but before she could say anything else. Harriet then saw a poster inside the store, and the moment she saw it. The girl with green eyes gasped, surprising everyone.
"Harriet?" Fleur asked, worried.
"What is it?" Neville followed as they all stared at her.
"Oh, my goodness! Jesus Christ! It's Gilderoy Lockhart! I'm such a huge fan!"
Harriet squealed like a fangirl, as everyone couldn't do anything but stare at her, confused, speechless, and concerned. Of course, Hermione also let a small squeal as both girls ran to the store, while everyone else just couldn't react. They were not prepared by such a reaction from Harriet. Maybe no one truly was.
Harriet then saw. The dashing man with a bright smile and golden hair smiling at the public. The Prophet was already there taking such many pictures, and Harriet was trying her hardest to get closer to see one of her favorite authors around.
"Harriet, they are too many people!" Hermione groaned while getting crunched by the people around, especially a tall red-haired woman.
"Oh, sorry my dear!" The woman said, but Hermione didn't pay too much attention, as she tried to see where Harriet went, and it didn't take long before they all realized where she was.
Harriet, using her strength, push her way in and finally ended up at the head of the crowd where she could see Gilderoy Lockhart, and it didn't take long enough for the man to notice Harriet.
"It can't be, Harriet Potter?!" Gilderoy Lockhart exclaimed, as soon as everyone in the store noticed the smiling girl, who was jumping in excitement.
"He noticed me!" Harriet whispered at poor Hermione, who had just arrived behind her.
"Harriet Potter!"
The photographer of the Daily Prophet took Harriet, who was just still looking like a fangirl, as she was now next to her hero.
"Nice big smile, my dear. Together, you and I rate the front page."
Gilderoy said as little Harriet nodded enthusiastically.
"Ladies and gentleman, what an extraordinary moment this is. When young Harriet stepped into Flourish and Blotts this morning to purchase my autobiography, Magical Me, which, incidentally, is currently celebrating its 27th week atop The Daily Prophet's bestseller list. She had no idea that she would in fact be leaving, with my entire collected works free of charges and autographed by me, of course, free of charge!"
Gilderoy said, smiling as everyone was just applauding the scene for whatever reason. The group of kids were just watching the scene, rather, horrified. But, their sweet friend, and the most important person in the world, looked so happy. They couldn't do anything to stop the moment, only watch with forced smiles.
"Yes!" Harriet whispered happily, as she didn't notice how Gilderoy's hand was slowly stroking her back, but of course. Fleur and the rest did notice. They also saw the shining blue eyes of the man, and they did not like it. But it was hard to say why. It was not only because of what he was doing but the way he was doing it. Maybe he was teasing them? Or it was something else.
"Now, my dear, please do be careful!"
Gilderoy said with his dashing smile, as Harriet nodded while only focusing on the books. The group saw her walking towards them, and they all sighed at the same time.
They walked outside the store in order to get some fresh air.
"Look! Look! I have the entire collection!" Harriet squealed again.
"You're so lucky!" Hermione replied, happily.
"You're a fan of that… person?" Daphne asked, slowly, almost hissing at the words.
"Of course!" Harriet replied.
"Ugh," Daphne only said.
"What's wrong with Gilderoy Lockhart? He is an incredible wizard with many awards!" Hermione said.
"He is a phony," Susan muttered.
"A phony?! But-But…!"
"Hermione, if you read his works, you'll see it immediately. Nothing makes sense," Blaise said in a rather disgusted tone.
"But… the… books!"
"Can lie," Hannah said, softly.
"Harriet, you hear this?!" Hermione said, looking for support from her friend, but it seems as if Harriet was ignoring everyone. Neville was helping Harriet with her books, and Fleur seems to have a seizure as her face was twitching still. Furious about such a man touching her beloved like that. Yet, Harriet was reading one of the books.
"So cool!" Harriet whispered, amazed.
"Eh, Harriet… you know those books… are fake, right?" Tracey asked.
Harriet then looks at them, baffled. "Uh, duh!"
"Ah?" Everyone replied. Now they were the ones confused.
"What are you all talking about? Of course, is fake! This is a novel, you silly!" Harriet said, with a matter-of-fact tone in her voice.
"Uh… what?" Everyone again was confused.
"Gilderoy Lockhart is a genius!" Harriet exclaimed seriously.
"Break with a Banshee, Gadding with Ghouls, and my personal favorite, Voyages with Vampires, are the best comedy slash fantasy books I have ever read!"
It was then that everyone finally understood why Harriet was a fan. Harriet never thought, for a second, they were books based on actual events. She always thought they were just novels and nothing more.
"I see… it makes sense that they never fool you… you were able to see beyond what was writing in there, and saw more than us... as expected of you, Harriet," Blaise said, chuckling at how foolish they look now.
"Indeed, I should have known such lies would never work on you," Fleur said happily.
"Yes, it's true, you're too smart for someone to fool you with histories like that, as we expected," the rest kept on saying, confusing Harriet a lot.
"I love all of you, but sometimes… you guys can be so weird."
Harriet said, baffled, earning a few laughs from the rest.
"Alright, we could wait for our parents, or we could have an ice cream," Fleur said gently as Harriet smiled at her.
"I want an ice cream."
"Alright, let's go then…"
Fleur was then interrupted by an annoying voice, and the group turned around and saw a certain blond-haired boy with a nasty grin on his face, next to a group of equally disgusting people. Among them was Pansy Parkinson, who had an arrogant smile, but she was still struggling with the feelings she was having. It was hard, but she kept the façade that everything was right.
"Well, well, I bet you like it, don't you, Potter? The audience, everyone at your feet. You can't even enter a place without making a fuss," Draco Malfoy said.
"Ugh, you're here. What a disgusting surprise," Daphne sneered back.
"Shut it, Greengrass," an ugly Slytherin boy said.
"And who would you may be?" Daphne asked, with a disdainful voice.
"Well, I am…!"
"Oh, yeah, I forget… I do not care," Daphne replied.
"What do you want here, my dear cousin?" Harriet drawled.
"I just wanted to make sure… everything was alright. You know, I have heard disgusting rumors about you… and a supposedly… thing," Draco hissed as he stared at the gorgeous blonde-haired girl, which made him blush as the Veela allure was making him focus only on her breast. Of course, Fleur looks down at him, like he was nothing but an insect.
"Ah, those rumors, they travel quite fast," Harriet said, unbothered.
"Indeed, they do," Fleur replied as she gently caressed Harriet's hair.
"Are they true?" Draco hissed.
"While, of course, they are, my dear little cousin… as you see, this is Fleur Delacour, my mate, soon-to-be-wife, gorgeous girlfriend, lover… you get the gist," Harriet said dramatically.
Draco's face went red, and Pansy's face was disgusted, but not entirely. It was more of jealousy and horror.
"I would have given you a chance if you were a girl, Draco, my dear, but… you're not, and quite frankly. You're an annoying little bugger," Harriet said with a sigh while feeling hungry suddenly.
"How… how dare you!"
Draco hissed, embarrassed, but he was stopped by a sudden happy voice.
"Well, well, what do we have here?"
Draco turned around and saw Nymphadora Tonks, carrying a bunch of things on her shoulder.
"This doesn't concern you," Draco sneered at her, trying to look intimidating but failing miserably.
"Oh, but it does. This is a family business, right?" Dora said, with a serious face.
Draco wanted to say something, but he was outnumbered. By everything around him. But the voice of his father made him smile.
"Is it?"
Lucius Malfoy appeared, and besides him, Narcissa Malfoy was standing there with the same arrogant smile as everyone in the family.
"My, my, look how beautiful you've become, my dear Nymphadora," Narcissa said with a smile.
"Aunt," Nymphadora only replied.
"Do you have any betrothed yet?" Narcissa asked, to which Nymphadora gagged.
"My mother does not wish for me to end up miserable, unlike someone," Nymphadora said, smirking, noticing the little flinch coming from Narcissa.
"Surely, dear Andromeda would have thought about marrying you off? You're quite special, after all. A Metamorphmagus is rare now on days. I know some who would look past your blood status as a Half-blood. You're still a female from the Black family, highly valuable," Lucius was making sure everyone knew what his intentions were, and they did not like it. Especially Nymphadora who spit on the ground. Hitting Lucius boot.
"Neh, I am fine," Nymphadora said.
Lucius sneered at her.
"Such an indecent girl," he muttered.
But then Lucius stared at Fleur and Harriet, and it made him mad. Not only in anger, but the lust he felt was hard to calm down. So, using his Occlumency walls, he was able to cool down.
"So, it is true… the Half-breed," Lucius hissed.
Harriet was now quite annoyed by everything. "Yes, it is true… not that it ever matters, lord Malfoy. Your goals were never going to be real, just like his."
Harriet added, noticing how Lucius was not pleased with all of it.
"Is there any problem here?" James Potter's voice made Lucius freeze but manages to keep his calm demeanor. Yet, it was the face of Sirius Black that made him scowl.
"And here, I was thinking why it was such a smelly day, and it was you all this time," Sirius said with a smirk.
"Such language as a lord," Lucius scoffed.
"You are right… but I wonder, are you bothering my goddaughter and her friends?" Sirius now asked, with a serious voice.
"Not at all… just checking… to see if it was true," Lucius said, now looking at Apolline and her husband, who only stared back at him, daring him to say anything, which he didn't.
"My son needs his books, that's all. And I do not wish to waste more time with blood traitors," Lucius huffed while leaving the group. Dracon followed his father in the same mannerism, and the group followed. Pansy Parkinson pass by the group of friends, and she could feel all of them staring at her, and she could only look at the ground, ashamed for some reason, wondering why they were looking at her in such a way.
"It's not too late, Narcissa," Sirius whispered, as Narcissa Malfoy looked troubled by it, but only nodded and left them.
"Are you fine, dear?" Lily asked.
"Brilliant, he was just bothering… the usual," Harriet replied.
"I see," Lily sighed.
"Well, the cat is out of the bag. It was a good idea to let those rumors grow," James said.
"Are you sure, Lord Potter?" Lord Delacour asked, nervously.
"It was going to be known sooner or later. Better be us who started it," James said.
The group only sighed, but they knew whatever it happens now. They must be ready for it.
"So, did you buy everything you need?" Apolline asked, trying to forget how Lucius was staring at her.
"Oui," Fleur replied.
"Good, I think it's time for us to depart to the train station before is late," Remus said.
The group was about to leave when they hear a commotion coming from Flourish and Blotts, and everyone could see. Lucius Malfoy and a red-haired man fighting.
"Merlin's bear! Is that Arthur?!" Sirius exclaimed, entertained.
"Whoa, what I punch!" Remus added.
James, while amused as an Auror, James had to stop the fight.
"Let's go, Sirius before it gets worse."
"Bloody hell, James! Let Arthur punch Lucius a bit more!"
Harriet had to say she was now incredibly happy to be there, as she could see Lucius being punched multiple times by the Weasley patriarch. Yet, while everyone was watching and stopping the fight. Harriet felt something heavy in her pocket and, confused, she put her hands in and pulled out a ring. It was the ring of before. Harriet was confused. She did not remember putting the ring in her pocket. Harriet stared at it, intrigued by it, confused even. But there was something that makes her wonder.
"What type of secrets do you hold?"
