She thought she knew how he felt. She never realized how wrong she was

UNFORGIVEABLE

Unforgiveable – Armin van Buuren feat Jaren

Mission Bullpen, Late Evening

Nell set the tablet and cellphone on the desk and looked at Hetty

"That's it. That is the last of it. Everything has been scrubbed clean." She said, her voice devoid of any of her usual cheer.

Hetty took them with a somber tone and set them aside. She opened her drawer and pulled out a brand new phone. She powered it on and made sure everything checked out before she handed it to Nell.

"Here. This is for you. My number is in it so if you need anything, anything at all, do not hesitate to call me." Hetty said, trying to muster a smile on the young woman's face.

"Thank you, Hetty." Nell said.

"Special Agent Bartlet is a good teacher. You will learn much from him." Hetty said as she closed the drawer.

"Thank you for doing this, Hetty." Nell said as she pocketed the phone.

"Oh, posh. It is the least I can do for you, my dear." Hetty said, placing a loving hand on the woman's shoulders.

"Do the others know?" She asked.

"I recorded messages for them explaining what is going on and promise to call them." Nell said.

"What about him?" Hetty asked, an eyebrow raised.

"I don't care about him. He is all over that blonde that he would probably not even notice I'm gone." Nell spat.

"And for that I will forever questions his judgement. And mine when it comes to Mr. Beale." Hetty said, hanging her head.

"Miss Jones, please believe me that if I had any idea this would have happened I would not have brought Blaze in to assist." Hetty said.

Nell cut her off with a wave of her hand. "You do not have to apologize to me Hetty. You have nothing to apologize for." She said.

Hetty breathed a sigh before deciding to change the subject for both of their sakes.

"Are all your things packed?" She asked.

"Everything I need for the next week while the movers that Bartlet hired pack up my apartment and move me to Chicago" Nell replied as she patted the suitcase next to her.

"It will be nice to be close to your family." Hetty said as she shut the lights off.

"My sister is ecstatic to see me on a regular basis now." Nell replied as she grabbed the suitcase.

"Let me drive you to the airport. It is the least I can do for you" Hetty replied.

"I would like that." Nell said, cracking a smile for the first time tonight.

They loaded into Hetty's car and drove away. Hetty decided to take a slow scenic route through the city to give Nell a reminder before she left. She reached over and turned the radio on. A haunting song started to play as they drove.

(START SONG)

You used to light up the dark

With your unrelenting spark

It always put a fire in me

You used to say I'm the one

The only ray of sun you could touch

Without a fear of burning

Well, you used to try to please me

Yeah, you used to try to please me

Well, it ain't over till it's over

And my world shuts down

But this comes close, I'll have you know

It's just a matter of time

But it ain't over till it's over

But I won't be made a fool

'Cause leaving me the way you did

Was just so unforgivable

Unforgivable…..

As they drove Nell couldn't avoid picturing him. She imagined Eric playing games with Blaze, laughing with her, and yes, evening having sex with her. Nell tried as hard as she could to push the images out of her head, but she couldn't. Tears started to well in her eyes which she clamped shut to avoid before she felt a hand take hers. She looked over to see Hetty, one hand on the wheel, holding her hand with the other, squeezing it gently as they drove.

What are you telling her now?

While you hold her in your arms

Are you pretending she's me?

And just how long will you go on

Before you realize you know she's the one

But you're gonna lose her anyway?

You just got there, now you're leaving

You just got there, now you're leaving

Well, it ain't over till it's over

And my world shuts down

But this comes close, I'll have you know

It's just a matter of time

But it ain't over till it's over

But I won't be made a fool

'Cause leaving me the way you did

Was just so unforgivable

Unforgivable…..

Hetty pulled into the passenger drop of area and parked the car. She got out and pulled Nell's suitcase out as Nell got out.

"I can't thank you enough for everything you did for me, Hetty." Nell said, tears flowing

"It was my honor, Miss Jones" Hetty said as she pulled Nell into a hug. The two women fighting a loosing battle against tears. They let go as Nell grabbed her suitcase and turned into the airport. Hetty got back into her car and drove away, into the dark Los Angeles night.

Darker now She thought to herself.

This was more of an AU What If? scenario that was brought on by hearing this song. Sorry I've been away for so long. Life has been reallllllly busy for me with a promotion at work (causing me to do 4 different jobs now), plus moving in with my girlfriend and daughter and not having easy access to my computer make writing hard. I have some other ideas moving around, as well as a new Friends are my Family episode focusing on Sam and Nell and the aftermath of Season 8

I will try to add this song to the TftM Soundtrack but my Spotify subscription has expired and I havn't renewed it yet.

Thank you for Reading, Reviewing, Favoriting and Following...as always
