Chapter 31
As Harriet approached the end of her Hogwarts school year, time seemed to have flown by quickly. She found herself in the final weeks, diligently completing her classes and eagerly anticipating her return home. However while Harriet was excited to reunite with her family and prepare perhaps some well-deserved vacations, Harriet couldn't help feeling a sense of bittersweet nostalgia. The past year had been filled with thrilling adventures and revelations, and she couldn't believe how rapidly it had all passed.
"I guess I couldn't ask for more excitement," Harriet muttered to herself with a deep sigh, feeling the weight of everyone's gaze upon her. Her small hideaway on the tranquil Black Lake had slowly but surely transformed into a comfortable and even lavish hut, thanks to the tireless efforts of Neville and the rest of her companions. They had spared no expense in making it a place of true solace and refuge for Harriet, utilising every resource available to them to ensure that it was nothing short of excellent.
Harriet liked it a great deal, but the pleasantry of the place didn't take away how bored she felt. "I'll have to wait until next year to see what happens now," Harriet sighed dramatically.
"You know, a regular person would like to have a normal year at school," Hermione added with an amused look on her face. "No basilisk, no attempt of murder... or Death Eaters in disguise."
"No Quidditch accidents?" It was heartwarming to see Ginny finally feeling at ease in the hut. She was even lending a hand to Hannah in the kitchen, creating some delectable pastries. The spacious kitchen was a blessing, and the two girls appeared to be getting along beautifully, with Hannah's kind eyes shining with affection as she handed Harriet a plate of muffins.
"No arms without bones?" Hannah added, chuckling at the way Harriet groaned, who began to eat the muffins in a cute manner.
"What's the fun in that? It adds some spicy to this gloomy life," Nymphadora stated, resting on a large sofa and reading a strange magazine.
"I'd take a peace and calm life any day," Neville sighed as he put down a large bag of fertilisers while Susan was beside him, taking some gloves covered in dirt. Both have done a lot of work on the small hut garner.
"Peaceful days? They are incredibly dull, mate. Action makes things interesting," Tracey said proudly while munching some food. Daphne was sitting beside her, simply moving to the side, mainly because Tracey was eating some fried insects.
"I prefer some sense of normalcy. Thank you," Daphne added, gagging at Tracey's strange appetitive food.
"I agree with dear Dora and Tracey here," Susan said, smiling. "A normal school year sounds dull."
"Thank you!" Nymphadora exclaimed while Hannah could be heard saying, "Feet off the table!" in the background.
Harriet only munched the delicious muffing, pondering the different opinions of her friends. Perhaps they were right; an ordinary and dull year was all she needed to make her feel like a normal student. Yet, Harriet could think that such an opportunity may never arise. She was, after all, the main target of a certain Dark Lord. So an everyday life for Harriet was out of the question.
"Mm, I guess," Harriet muttered as she glanced around, trying to find her dear Veela. But only saw Luna wearing a strange hat, speaking with the twins, Tina and Rolf, who were quite confused at whatever the strange girl was trying to tell them. "Mm, where are Blaise and Fleur?" She asked, confused. Usually, Fleur would be there, feeding her, like the lazy slub she could be. But Harriet hadn't seen Fluer in almost all day, which was strange for the Veela since Fleur couldn't be that long away from her without breaking down, just like her.
Fortunately, Fleur and Blaise entered the hut. They appeared deep in thought at first but quickly returned to their usual selves when they noticed the green-eyed girl looking at them. Harriet noticed their brooding stares but knew they often thought deeply about things she couldn't comprehend.
Fleur simply smiled as she went to her mate and, like always, picked her up and put her on her lap. "Hello dear!" Fleur kissed Harriet's cheek as she, the Girl-Who-Lived, hummed at them.
"Where were you both?" Harriet asked.
"We were just handing out some works and checking out on the infirmary," Fleur gave a shrug in response to the question as she cuddled closer to Harriet.
"Oh, the hospital wing? Why?" Harriet tilted her head, intrigued about their reasoning for their sudden.
"Professor Snape is ready to give the petrified students the potion that would allow them to return to normal. So, we were just curious about it. However, the potion will take a day until it takes effect."
Blaise added as he simply stood there with a big smile. Harriet hummed, remembering those poor students who lost an entire school year because of that incident. However, she merely sighed while curious about their reactions to losing an entire year in the blink of an eye. Harriet knew that their situation was merely a nuisance at best. Harriet paid no attention to whatever reason. Both Fleur and Blaise were quite intrigued about it. Maybe, it was mere curiosity or something else. It was hard to say. Harriet just shrugged it off.
"In anycase, I hope the end-year dinner is good," Harriet mentioned, losing herself to another topic. At the same time, Fluer and Blaise kept wondering when would another of them finally wake up from slumber. And that was something they were waiting for. Fleur as overseer of the Guardians, a title that could not mean much as of now, still has the duty of seeking out for them and overseer their current state.
Fleur wondered if Pansy Parkinson would finally let that little vermin out as much as it pains her. They need all the guardians for the future that has yet to come.
They all need to be ready to fight and protect their lady at all costs.
Deep in the night, in the middle of darkness, where no portrait was there to speak or ghost to see. The Hospital wing showcases a rare and quiet sight of young children all pale and unmoving. The potion needed 24 hours for it to work. However, it was different for a particular small girl whose body was as rigid as the rest. The face of horror, those eyes filled with terror, represented the last moments before she was petrified.
Pansy Parkinson's body hasn't moved in a long time, just like many others. However, that was slowly changing.
Pansy's body began to slowly crack, to move in a way an old statue would. Slow breathing emerged. Then, a gasp of hair, as if she has been drowning forever. Pansy suddenly woke up from the bed in a genuinely spontaneous way.
"I-!" She exclaimed, not finding words to describe the complete disorientation she was feeling at the current moment. Pansy tried to find a way to see, to find where she was but found herself utterly confused, even more so since she couldn't recognise this strange place.
"W-where am I?!" Pansy expressed her sudden feelings of fear and confusion. Then, Pansy sensed something even more horrific as she suddenly peered down at her chest. The horror, the absolute nightmarish sight, was one that could've sent her to yet another petrification. Pansy put her hands on her flat chest, and in an utterly horrific scream, she let out her terror.
"My breasts?! What happened to my breasts?!" Pansy wailed loudly as she inspected her body. "This...! This is wrong! This is not me!"
Pansy put her hands around her head, feeling a strange headache coming to her. But soon, images of Nazarick came to her—vivid memories of what happened. The message appeared out of nowhere, as their lady left in a blink of an eye, the guardian's oath to find her no matter the place. Pansy recalled now how she was born in this world as a human, only to remember everything when she met her lady in a child's form. She panicked when she saw her lady in another world, causing her to run at her and fall and knock herself out. Truly a horrific accident that showcases her current state.
Pansy, or well, Shalltear, remembered it all and could only groan loudly at it. Desperately, she tried to stand up from the bed but was petrified after months in the bed. Her body didn't respond to her. She slammed herself into the ground and groaned. Still, that wasn't the worst of it all.
"I... I feel pain?" She muttered, watching the blood on her slip lip, tasting the delicious silverish flavour of it. "This... this is my blood?" She whispered. Soon enough, a voice emerged out of the shadows of the room.
"Finally, you took long enough," Pansy looked up and noticed a young kid there. A preteen female with a tomboyish demeanour and a smirk on her face. It took a while for her to figure out who it was. It's possible that Shaltlear would have never fully connected the dots if it weren't for those unusual eyes of different colours. "Au-Aura?!"
"The one and only! But here I am, Porpetina Scamander!" Tina smiled and felt incredibly happy to see Shalltear again. Although in a different body.
"Porpetina...?" Pansy muttered slowly.
"Just Tina," Tina replied with a grin on her face.
Pansy slowly stood up, watching around her. "So... you're here too," she muttered, still feeling quite confused.
"Mm, yep! But we aren't the only ones," Tina added as soon as Pansy noticed a group arriving at the Hospital Wing. At first glance, Pansy didn't recognise them at all. But the way they walked, how they were looking at her. She knew they were Nazarick residents.
"Shalltear Bloodfallen. You've cost us a great deal of time trying to get you back," Fleur muttered as she stared at the small witch, who immediately stared at her breast with a sign of incredible jealousy.
"Oh, you are..."
"Albedo, but here you shall call me Fleur Delacour, but my role is still the same," Fleur called, with a smug of supremacy as she put her arms below her large chest. Showcasing her enormous breast, much to Pansy's dismay.
"Ugh," Pansy groaned. "Great, the big gorilla has boobs."
Fleur scoffed before turning her glance away. "Blaise, is Madam Pomfrey asleep? We can't have interruptions. There are a lot of things we must discuss with Pansy here. We can't afford distractions."
"Don't worry. We are in the clear here. There won't be interruptions, isn't right, Rolf?"
"Y-yeah! I make sure of it!" Rolf nodded quickly.
Pansy, for her part, frowned deeply. "Wait, Albedo. Why are you calling them by those names? I don't understand..."
Fleur looked at Pansy and sighed deeply. "I believe you should be able to see a menu of sorts. A strange one at that."
Pansy nodded but was still unsure what to think about such a menu. She frowned as she began to focus on Fleur's instructions. It took time, but Pansy could see it and when she did. Pansy noticed a quest. But they seem like instructions rather than missions. Pansy took her time reading, and each task looked somewhat eccentric, or at least to her.
"I... this..." Pansy whispered.
"This is the reason you must get used to using your human name," Fleur stated with a severe tone of voice. "It's vital that we keep ourselves from intervening from our lady's path to recovery."
"But why?" Pansy muttered as she stared at her mission. Don't Interfere! and Dark Cover Operation! It was such a strange set of missions that she found it hard to understand them.
"There could be consequences if we show ourselves," Blaise added, again speaking with a severe tone of voice. "And we are not going to put our lady in any danger. We... have already failed at that."
Pansy was made aware, through Blaise's remarks, of how precarious their situation was and how seriously their responsibilities as guardians needed to be taken into account.
"Our failures could lead to pain for our lady. Our mistakes, and lack of understanding of our situation, can hurt our lady. Do you understand this? If we fail them, this... quests' punishment will not be laid upon us, but our lady!" Fleur remarked almost hissingly. "We can't fail! We will not fail!"
Pansy's body froze; now finally understood how important it was for her to wake up eventually. "I understand! I swear I'll not fail our lady!"
Fleur sighed. "Good. So, you need to get used to our names here. Also, our strenght is not near enough. We are but mere weak humans, and while we can use Yggdrasil magic to an extent. Our bodies are still fragile."
That was something Pansy could already feel in this body of hers. The fact that she might feel migraines and that she could injure her body simply by falling out of bed was very upsetting to her. Enlightened her to the fact that she was, in fact, vulnerable. However, it was just as Fleur and Blaise stated before. It didn't matter. Her pain was of no bother. Pansy was still a guardian and would protect her lady with her life if it came to be.
"Pansy," Fleur remarked her human name as she stared at the girl. "There is a lot we must talk about. A lot of... catch-up we must do."
"I understand," Pansy nodded quickly.
"Good. We must hurry; I gave Harriet her favourite meal with hot chocolate and some cuddles before she fell asleep. But if I am not there, she'll notice."
Fleur hummed deeply. "But we shall find a more private place."
Pansy nodded, wondering just how much she had truly missed since she arrived in this world.
The announcement that the kids who had been petrified had returned to their normal state made everyone very glad; at long last, the Basilisk's influence as a source of fear had been lifted. Although, the reality was more disappointing since those children weren't indeed in danger at all. Or at least not even close to death, and the horrific Basilisk proved to be a cuddle noddle instead of the historical monster as some claimed. Nevertheless, for Harriet, the event proved to be a closing chapter in her second year. There was one thing that confused her right now.
"Pansy Parkinson wants to hang out with us now?" Harriet looked at the petite girl with a hint of confusion. The girl appeared to be quite nervous and anxious, waiting for Harriet's response.
"Times change, mon amour. She realised the errors of her way," Fleur stated, smiling happily, although even she looked nervous.
"Being petrified helped her to change her view of things," Blaise added as both started near the nervous girl.
With bated breath, Harriet's companions huddled together by the entrance of their cosy abode, eager to gauge her reaction.
"Uh hu," Harriet muttered as she watched Pansy's expression. Her green eyes peered into Pansy, making it hard for her even to look straight. "I won't allow her to sit with us."
The utterance of those words seemed to have caught everyone off guard, and for a fleeting moment, both Fluer and Blaise appeared to be flustered. Their gazes quickly met, while Pansy, who was on the verge of tears, seemed to be taken aback by Harriet's rejection. Despite the initial shock, it was evident that Harriet wasn't one to be cruel, or at least not at that moment.
"I won't allow her to sit with us until she apologises to Hermione for calling her a mudblood," Harriet stated coldly. Pansy's reputation for snarking remarks was incredibly well-known in Slytherin and other houses. So, Harriet, whose dear mother was a Muggle-born, takes that insult to heart and won't tolerate anyone using it before her. She has no idea why Pansy wanted to be her friend nor why Fleur and Blaise vouched for her. But Harriet won't allow her near her until she apologises for it.
"Harriet," Fleur murmured while peering intently into Harriet's green eyes, probably attempting to think of a way to convince her to reconsider her viewpoint. Fleur was aware that this was a point at which her cherished partner would not move. Harriet had a tendency to be somewhat obstinate, especially when it came down to people who had offended her friends and family.
"If... If I apologise to her, would you allow me... to sit with you?" Pansy muttered softly and could sense Harriet's eyes surveying her.
"I may," Harriet only replied. "Or I may not. It's not up to you to decide who my friends are."
Again those words made Pansy cringe and limp her head down. She fidgeted with her dress, and her little fingers were making circles. "Harriet, I want to apologise for my behaviour. I am truly sorry for insulting you and calling your mother like that. Please forgive me. I'll do anything to make things right and earn your forgiveness!"
Pansy's voice broke as she practically went to her knees and kissed the dirt on her forehead. A complete show of submission. She felt utterly ashamed, not because of what she was doing but because her own lady was rejecting her. She was a guardian of Nazarick. What would Pansy do if her lady, the one she was created to obey, follow, and follow, didn't want her anymore? Pansy's life would have no meaning. She would rather be dead than lose her only purpose in life.
Harriet frowned but hummed as she watched Pansy weep on the floor.
"Now, apologise to Hermione," Harriet said as her bushy friends squealed.
"Har-Harriet, she already asked for forgiveness!" Hermione exclaimed, stunned, but Harriet simply glanced at her.
"To me, yes. But not to you. If you don't forgive Pansy, I won't either. You're my dear friend, not her. If you don't like someone, I won't like that person either. If someone insults you, she is insulting me too. If someone hurts you, they are hurting me, and I am going to hurt them back," Harriet stated with an almost cold and inhuman tone of voice. "There's nothing I wouldn't do to protect my friends and family."
Harriet's sentiment truly resonated with her experience of loneliness in her past life and the sensation of being left alone by her guildmates. However, Harriet would not do that to anyone, especially here. Her devotion and love for those closest to her were perhaps too much and even extreme, but no one could blame her for feeling like that. Here, Harriet had family and friends, and she'll protect them at all costs.
"That's extreme," Hermione muttered before noticing Pansy now kneeling in front of her.
"Please forgive me!" Pansy exclaimed as Hermione just couldn't believe that Pansy was so intense in her apology. "I was an idiot! I apologise for insulting you behind your back! For calling you that word!"
Hermione's cheeks turned a deep shade of red, betraying her embarrassment as she felt the weight of Harriet's expectant gaze, as well as those of the other onlookers. She could sense the intensity of the moment, and it made her feel even more uncomfortable. As she looked at Pansy, she couldn't help but notice the tears that glistened in her eyes. They looked genuine, filled with a sense of desperation and pleading that tugged at Hermione's heartstrings. It was clear that Pansy was in a vulnerable state, and Hermione felt a surge of compassion for her.
"I..." Hermione sighed deeply. "I forgive you, Pansy. It's alright."
Pansy's face lighted up as if a ray of hope finally shone upon her life.
"We are young, after all. We are children still. We all make mistakes. We can all change," Hermione muttered before smiling at her. "I do hope we can become friends now!"
Harriet stared deeply at Hermione and Pansy's eyes, trying to see if anything was out of the ordinary. But could see honesty in both of them. Harriet may not know Pansy, but she knew that Hermione's bleeding heart was always in the right place. So with that in mind, Harriet decided to give Pansy a chance.
"Well, you may sit with us from now on," Harriet declared. "But I am watching you!"
"I promise you! I'll be the best friend ever!" Pansy exclaimed joyfully, a bit overdramatic.
"We'll see," Harriet whispered in a funny suspicious way. "Also, why are you so pale? Like... you look incredibly pale. Almost like you're still petrified. Or well... dead."
Harriet gazed at Pansy's seemingly lifeless body. Her once sun-kissed skin was now appearing unnaturally pale, and the vibrant red of her lips and the dark eyeshadow that encircled her eyes made her look quite different from before. The transformation was so drastic that she couldn't help but wonder if Pansy had taken on a vampiric appearance.
"You look like a vampire of sorts," Harriet muttered as she scratched her chin.
"Uh... is a, uh? A side effect!" Fleur quickly added as Pansy nodded quickly.
"Y-yeah! It's... a side effect!" Pansy said nervously, as Harriet simply stared at her for a few seconds before shrugging it off.
"In anycase, Hannah! I am hungry! I want to eat!"
"Alright," Hannah replied with a smile. However, like everyone else, she breathed in relief as they entered the hut. The guardians could live for another day.
The final day came. The end of the year was finally upon them. The last night, Harriet smiled as she saw the Hufflepuff's flag adorning the great hall. The Badges have won yet another year. They won the Inter-Quidditch House Cup and the Hogwarts House Cup. Because, obviously, they would. Harriet was in their house, although if she was honest. Harriet wasn't at the top of her year any longer. It was a tie. The first spots with the highest scores in the second year were Hermione, Harriet, and Blaise—all with perfect O's on all their tests.
However, Harriet had the advantage thanks to her contributions to the Wizarding World society. Or that was what Dumbledore stated when he declared Hufflepuff House winner of the year House Cup.
But now, Harriet was saying goodbye to Hogwarts again. "Ah, this year went by incredibly fast, eh?" She stated, looking back at Susan and Hannah, and both of them smiled at her.
"Indeed, it has gone by quite quickly," Hannah replied, staring at the few students still in the great hall.
"I can't believe I'll miss this," Susan sighed sadly. "Being with you."
Harriet chuckled as she saw Susan blush. "We are going to see each other a lot during vacations, remember?"
Susan whined as she hugged Harriet. "I don't want to leave you!"
Harriet simply shook her head, amused by the red-hair girl's sudden cuddling behaviours. Susan was something confusing if Galadriel could say so herself. Hannah was the typical motherly-like girl who loved to cook and spoil Harriet no matter what. While Susan was often colder to other people, the red-hair girl would be rude and even vicious to anyone who wasn't part of their inner circle. But Susan was also a cuddling bear, a truly soft girl when Harriet was around.
"Don't worry, Susan," Harriet smiled at her. "I promise we will spend a lot of time together! We are going skiing in Finland! Or was it Norway? Well, it doesn't matter. We are going to spend a lot of time together!"
Harriet stated happily before sensing a sudden two shadows behind her. She knew who they were immediately.
"Oh, did I hear right? Trip to Finland? You heard that, Fred?"
"I heard that, George. It must be nice being part of the 1%."
"Woe is us, the poor ones with no galleons to share!"
Harriet turned around to see the red-haired twins with their usual smirks and snorted but grinned widely. "Well, well, sorry for being rich! But I can't help it! Daddy's going to buy me a yacht for my birthday!"
George and Fred gasped dramatically as Harriet proudly put her chest up. "No humility from the Girl-Who-Lived! No modesty at all!" Fred exclaimed, almost trying to make Harriet look bad.
"An arrogant girl with daddy's money! You're truly not a good person!" George interjected with a dramatic statement that added a touch of theatrics to the already absurd discussion. Harriet simply responded with a scoff, but the grins on their faces made it clear to everyone present that they were merely engaging in playful banter.
"All jokes aside, you're invited if you want to come. I already invited Ginny," Harriet said, showing them a genuine smile. She liked the twins. They were indeed something else and had quite a sense of humour. And the twins knew they were enjoyed by Harriet, and she liked them around. They now noticed that the glares the rest of Harriet's inner circle gave them were not as hostile as before, which means the dark followers of the powerful evil dark lady in the making who was addicted to muffins and cheesecake approved of them now. A title Fred and George gave her, not that Harriet knew, of course.
"Thank you, my oh mighty lady, but we have plans for this summer," Fred said with a proud smile.
"Father got into the Daily Prophet Grand Prize Galleon Draw!" George added, nodding to Fred. "And we are going to win!"
"Isn't that publicly, and everyone subscribed to the Daily Prophet participates?" Susan whispered while the twins simply pushed it aside.
"How do you know you're going to win?" Hannah asked, unconvinced.
"My dear Hannah, you need to have faith!" Fred exclaimed happily.
"I wish I had that confidence level," Harriet replied amusingly. "Still, the invitation will be up."
"Thank you, I don't doubt Ginny will like it," Fred said before his face turned gentle. "We also want to thank you for what you have done for Ginny. She slowly returned to herself. We can't truly thank you enough for saving her."
"She couldn't even sleep alone for a while, and we didn't even know if they were going to send her home... but you manage to keep her here, and she seems happier, like before," George added before both bowed to her.
"Thank you, in the names of the Weasley family."
Harriet simply waved it off. "Don't worry. Saving people is what I do."
The twins looked at her with an amused look on her face. "Humble, after all."
They all laugh for a bit before departing. Harriet smirked as she waved goodbyes. She looked once again at the Great Hall before leaving too. Harriet would be back again next year. She wasn't genuinely saying goodbye, just until later.
Harriet walked to the train station and saw all her friends waiting for her. The group was becoming large each year. A genuine surprise, and she couldn't help but wonder what would await her next year. Hopefully, something exciting.
Harriet then felt a slight nudge on her forehead, on the scar and winced in pain. Yet, she growled, remembering a certain Dark Lord.
Yes, more excitement.
