Looks like everyone's interested in where this story might go and I'm glad to see it.
I'll keep it going while also working on my other story.
For now, let's dive back in and see what's happening to Jaune.
I do not own RWBY or any of its characters, all characters belong to their respective owners and companies.
Chapter 2: Two is Better Than One
This voice, these thoughts that were manifesting in Jaune's mind felt like something that shouldn't be there. Everything about it made his skin crawl and he could barely keep himself from having a mental break over it.
He had barely even registered the time that passed with how the sunlight shifted through the hole he had fallen through.
All Jaune could do for a few seconds was stare at his own arms. They looked normal, like they always had every day of his life and yet he could not forget what he had just done.
"I should be dead, should be a shredded piece of jerky but...", he said losing his voice before feeling the other passenger in his mind speak up.
"You are alive...we both are...you should be grateful", it said as Jaune felt his hands clench and responded without thinking.
"Thankful?! Are you kidding me!? What did I just do?! Who are you!?", he yelled as his voice echoed off the walls of the chamber.
"I gave you what you wanted...a chance to survive...a chance to grow stronger...judging by the thoughts in this head of yours I can see that is something you want", the voice said as Jaune seemed to freeze from its remarks.
"You...you can see my thoughts? Oh man...what have I gotten myself into", Jaune said running his hands through his hair he shook his head as he looked around seeing the sun had shifted from morning yellow to almost a mid-day brightness.
"I've gotta get out of here, get back to campus...then...then I can figure this out...just gotta get out of here...", Jaune said as he looked up wondering how to accomplish that feat.
"You want up? All you had to do was ask", the voice said Jaune felt a swelling in his muscles as he looked down seeing through the tears in his running pants as his skin darkened.
In all but one moment Jaune felt his body react on its own as he crouched down and kicked off the ground he let out a help flying in the air before seeing the ledge coming up and he immediately grabbed it.
He hung there for a moment in disbelief over what his body had just done. Not even a fully trained huntsman could pull off athletic feats like that without having some momentum or help and yet here he was having just done something definitely abnormal.
His grip soon began to slip as Jaune tried to swing his arm up to grab the ledge but couldn't get the momentum right.
Just as he began to feel his fingers slip down off the stone the dark tendrils from before shot from his wrist and embedded themselves into the stone as Jaune felt himself pulled up before using his other hand and finally pulling himself up and over onto the ground as he breathed in the fresh air.
The sunlight now fully showered his body as he felt the warmth and closed his eyes as he felt himself finally back in a world he knew. He sat up and looked back over the hole as he saw the area he had just been in.
The broken stone and the claw marks all over the place relayed the story and events he had just experienced and yet it still felt like it was all something someone had made up for a campfire story.
"Cover the hole, you will return in time...", the voice said as Jaune took on a confused face.
"I am never coming back out of here", he said as he turned to leave before feeling his entire body stop. He budged and ripped his way forward but did not make any progress as he turned back and saw the tendrils having erupted out of his back and digging into the dirt.
Jaune liked this less and less as the day went on he sighed and began trying to pull the tendrils free with his arms.
"You will do this task or else you will face the consequences", the voice said as Jaune continued to struggle but responded.
"Face the consequences? Listen this is my body and I will be taking it to Beacon!", he yelled as he pulled against the tendrils and some of them began to break but the voice soon chimed in.
"And what will you do then if someone comes out here and finds this place...traces the events back to you...finds out about your lies.", the voice said in almost a sickly knowing tone as Jaune halted his actions and narrowed his eyes.
"You have secrets...and this now becomes one more for you to hold dear...cover the hole and go about your normal day...I need to rest...so long contained...", the voice said soon fading from his mind as Jaune was now finally left alone with his own thoughts.
He waited for a moment feeling the tendrils free from the ground and soon sinking back into his body leaving him now just standing there.
"Another secret...perfect", Jaune said as he turned and looked around before seeing what he could use he walked over and began gathering some branches and foliage. After a few minutes, he had a makeshift covering that he draped over the hole and let it blend with the grass as he stood back wiping his hands as he nodded to himself.
He hoped he would not have to come back here but as of right now, everything was uncharted territory to him. He should have been dead hell he felt his life slipping away with each hit from that beowolf and yet right now he felt better than he ever had.
He soon walked closer to the tree line casting one more look back as he jogged off back to campus. He didn't know what had happened down there and for now, it felt like he was the only one rocking around in his brain. The other voice had left or gone to sleep or something and for that Jaune was grateful.
He wondered how he should tell this to the others, he remembered the trouble keeping Cardin's bullying a secret and the hurt looks from his teammates as well during all of it. He felt shame every time he thought about it and no matter how many times they all said it was okay he never did feel like it was.
Even after the fight in the village town after team RWBY had discovered the White Fangs hideout Jaune felt as though he wasn't really pitching in as much as he really should be. Sure he killed a few Grimm by himself and saved some people but if he had been able to see the total kills and assistance being done he knew he was probably at the bottom of the barrel and the hard part was that he knew what it was like all too well.
Jaune shook his head and dispelled those thoughts for now as he soon began to see familiar terrain and after another few minutes could see Beacon Tower in the distance.
After another ten minutes had passed Jaune was close enough to campus that he could see students walking around. The clock connected to the headmaster's tower let him know he was very late for everything. He had missed his first class and he was closing in on missing the rest of the second one.
He knew he didn't have time to stop by and get his scroll and change into his uniform as he hid behind one of the building walls he let out a sigh not sure what to do.
"I need my uniform, I need my scroll, I need help...", he said as he soon felt a weird sensation fall over his body again.
The dark skin from before surfaced as well as some of the tendrils as they seemed to blend into this black substance that started to cover his legs and arms. His eyes widened beginning to freak out before soon he watched in awe at the sight of his uniform slipping out from the black substance.
Once everything had calmed down Jaune stood there in his school uniform shoes and all as he turned and felt at the jacket and pants. They felt just like how he remembered them and as he pulled at the jacket it felt like fabric.
However, as he pulled a little harder he felt the fabric shimmer as if it was agitated by the reaction before slipping back to normal.
"Did I just...make my uniform?", he said in a low volume as he had merely thought about the clothing he needed and it all happened. For a moment nothing happened before from his torso his shredded running clothes seemed to get spit out into his hands as he looked at them.
"Woah...this...this is...actually kinda cool", he said soon hearing voices as he freaked out for a moment before seeing one of the campus trash cans.
He merely wanted to get these clothes into the can like normal but just the thought caused the black tendrils to shoot from his arms and grab the clothing immediately stretching almost ten feet away. They dumped the clothes and returned to Jaune now leaving him slack-jawed he soon saw a group of students merely talking walk past the wall he was hiding behind, a few gave him looks but didn't regard him with much attention before leaving him alone.
Jaune could only ponder things for a few more minutes as he soon remembered he needed to get to class, he took off across the campus running and headed straight for Professor Port's classroom.
Jaune soon arrived at the classroom door as he checked himself in a reflection of a window. He wasn't winded or huffing and his uniform still looked perfect. Whatever happened to him down in that hole so far had proven to be something he considered an upgrade.
Slowly opening the door Jaune peered in as he saw class in full swing. Professor Port could be heard as he was knee-deep in a story and as he began to slip in he saw his team waving him down. Pyrrha looked relieved as Jaune slipped the door closed and soon tried to sneak up the side before being stopped.
"Ah Mr. Arc you finally decided to join us for class", Port said as he turned putting his hands on his hips as he looked at Jaune. The class began to snicker over this as they saw Jaune had gotten caught.
"Do you have anything to say for yourself, young man?", Port said as Jaune swallowed before standing up straighter as he rubbed his neck a bit.
"Sorry Professor I was on my way but I...felt the familiar wind of adventure you talk about so much pulling me to something I just had to check out...", Jaune said not fully even believing his own words as the silence was deafening.
Soon however the air was filled with hearty laughter as Port slapped his knee and spoke up.
"AH good to see a student has been listening to me and what I have been trying to tell you all. When adventure and glory are speaking you must run and listen! Well done Mr. Arc I will let you go on this one but next time do come to class first, glory will always come to the worthy!", he said before turning around as he began to get back into his lesson while Jaune let out a sigh of relief and quickly found his seat next to Pyrrha as he got his notes and stuff ready.
Pyrrha pushed her paper over letting him catch up before soon leaning over as she spoke in a whisper.
"Where were you Jaune? We were getting worried after you missed the first class.", she stated with knitted brows and a worried look on her face.
Jaune knew he needed to be careful but he spoke a truth that in fact was not a lie.
"Sorry Pyr I was doing the one thing you told me not to and that was getting lost in thought while I was jogging.", Jaune said rubbing his neck out of habit over the deed, and before Pyrrha could say anything Nora hopped into the conversation.
"Seeeee I told you it was nothing bad Jaune just zoned out like I do when we are in class", Nora said with a large grin making Ren merely shake his head and sigh. Pyrrha decided she would let it go for now but she would still be scolding her partner for being so reckless. He had been getting better and better as their training went on but she still worried he would get in over his head on some things.
Soon Jaune had gotten his notebook out but only twirled his pen as he couldn't really pay attention after all that had happened so far in the day. He had tried to probe his mind for anything even asking and speaking as if he waited for that voice to come back but it didn't.
During all of this Port continued to talk and discuss his stories and adventures until eventually, it was time to pack up and head out which Jaune was thankful for.
Soon he was walking to the cafeteria as the two sister teams of JNPR and RWBY walked together discussing various things about class or what they had planned later in the day.
Jaune merely tagged along as he normally did and kept silent during all the conversations. It was within this silence and thinking moment however that Jaune slammed right into the one person he never enjoyed the company of.
Cardin and his teammates had all but gone radio silent when it came to interacting with others. Sure, he kept his word and out of Jaune's way, and left his team and team RWBY alone, but the bullying never stopped. At least the physical bullying did but Jaune could hear them in the halls going after the Faunus students or the weaker ones.
For a moment Jaune didn't register the person in front of him before jolting as Cardin slapped his hands together in front of Jaune's face which made the blonde knight sit up straight.
"Arc you hear me?! I said are you gonna apologize for getting in my way?!", Cardin yelled causing far too many eyes to fall on them as Jaune began to feel nervous.
"Huh? Oh...yeah sorry about that just a bit out of it", Jaune said soon looking up at Cardin as the two seemed to share a look before Cardin remembered Jaune saving him as he could only scoff and scratch his cheek.
"Yeah whatever...come on guys", Cardin said as the rest of team CRDL began to follow and Jaune was about to return to his friends having been watching the interaction.
However, one member of the Cardin's team had not been happy with the recent events.
Dove had been on top of the food chain when he joined Cardin's team. They were making themselves known and even sticking it to those filthy Faunus and then Cardin had even got a lackey for them to use in the form of Jaune Arc.
Yet now after something that Cardin wouldn't even tell them about everything was off-limits and all they could do was throw insults and try to act tough. It was pathetic compared to who they once were and Dove couldn't get Cardin to even talk about it before fights and shouting matches would begin. Their entire team dynamic had been thrown off and now the source of that fracture was just getting another pass for even bumping into the leader of this team.
Dove had enough of this.
"Sorry isn't good enough Arc", Dove said making his team stop as he actually shoved Jaune from behind making the blonde stumble before having to slam his foot down to keep his balance.
"You don't want us coming back and handing you your ass again so you better watch it", Dove said as Cardin turned and called his name trying to get him to stop and just come along but Dove wasn't having it.
"This little wuss doesn't get to just be our lackey and then get free bumps the next day Cardin, What the hell happened to your backbone?!", Dove said as Cardin grit his teeth and was about to grab his teammate only for Dove to turn and grab Jaune by the jacket as he whipped him around and raised his fist.
"Hey that's enough!", Pyrrha yelled trying to de-escalate the situation while Ren held Nora back who was already cracking her knuckles.
"Shut your mouth Nikos if anyone should be tailing behind us it should be you I'm sure we would prove better company than this wimp. Why not come by sometime and...", and just before his sentence could finish the world went dark.
Dove woke up later in the infirmary that day nose bandaged all the way around and sore marks around his throat. Cardin had been waiting in the infirmary for him to wake up and once he did grilled his ass for almost an hour over ruining their reputation and urging on shit. Dove had been confused about the events and Cardin relayed them all just for him to remember perfectly.
The moment that Dove began to talk about Pyrrha in the way he did Jaune felt his thoughts align sharply. Hearing words like this would make him slowly build to anger and perhaps get him to react if he was brave enough to do something. Yet the anger was already there like it had been laying underneath Jaune's skin ready to use at a moment's notice.
Nobody would have seen it with how Jaune's head was hanging, his hair covering his eyes a bit but the brilliant blue sapphires that he was known for currently held their same shine and color, and yet the white that used to surround those sapphires were covered in a pitch black sclera. Before Dove could even see the change Jaune had already reared his head back and slammed his forehead directly into Dove's face. The initial hit had cracked through his Aura delivering a blow as Dove hadn't been prepared for it.
He fell back ready to go to the floor as he let go of Jaune's jacket only it didn't let go of him almost pushing into his hands, Jaune moved forward and in one quick movement grabbed Dove by his throat and slammed him into the wall as the sound of his head hitting the wall made a loud bang as his eyes rolled back.
Jaune released Dove as he hit the ground, he looked down still with his eyes covered and changed only for him to shake his head as he cleared his vision and blinked a few times to see Dove now on the ground as his eyes grew wide.
Jaune looked up seeing the other students watching with wide eyes as well and even Cardin held a jaw-dropped expression.
"Um...I didn't mean to...Um", Jaune said fumbling with his words as he turned and looked at his team and saw various expressions.
Pyrrha held a hand over her mouth in awe over what she just witnessed, Nora was practically grinning ear to ear, and Ren could only look between Jaune and Dove's body.
"Well damn Vomit boy I didn't know you had it in you", Yang chimed in pushing past as she slung an arm around his neck and began pulling him back to their group Jaune tried tapping for air as soon he was bombarded with voices.
"Jaune that was so cool!", Ruby and Nora shouted as they began moving along, and even Pyrrha came to his side freeing him from Yang as she held a small blush to her cheeks.
"Thank you for that...", Pyrrha whispered as Jaune could only nod slightly not really sure what he had just done as he walked away with students taking pictures with their scrolls as Cardin could be heard yelling.
"YOU DUMBASS I TOLD YOU NOT TO PICK A FIGHT!", he screamed as Jaune gave one more look behind him before they entered the cafeteria and went about lunch as normal.
"You mean...Jaune did all this to me?", Dove asked as he could barely move with the stiffness in his neck. Despite the motions looking all so smooth and clean, even Cardin was in disbelief over the bruising and damage Jaune did.
"He did and everyone got it on video...so when I tell you next time don't go picking a fight will you fucking listen to me!", Cardin yelled as Dove immediately nodded out of fear and watched his leader stand and get ready to leave.
"You are on laundry duty for two months because of this", Cardin said before walking out as Dove let out an annoyed sigh. "I've been on it since we started school", Dove said annoyed before turning and looking at the chart next to the bed that held all the injuries he came to the infirmary for.
It was almost hard to believe and yet after a look at his scroll and the video that was being shared around it was clear of one thing Dove learned in all this.
Perhaps now he saw why Cardin didn't wanna mess with Jaune anymore or anyone the guy might be attached to.
The rest of the day passed without much of a problem as the fight had been the talk of the school for a bit. Jaune noticed his team in higher spirits after it, for a while he thought maybe they had enjoyed seeing Jaune prove his worth and strength to others and maybe even them.
He dismissed that thought knowing his team didn't care if he was the best or the worst but probably weren't turning down him being in a good light right now considering his past misfortunes. Even team RWBY seemed to enjoy Jaune having shown he had a backbone and that he was improving as well. As sister teams they took care of each other and with how much Jaune and Ruby talked as leaders it was natural to enjoy seeing that growth.
For now, it was close to the end of classes with combat class being the last for the day. Professor Goodwitch had discussed recently their need to prove themselves both with weapons and without them and had set up a few classes for CQC training and the importance of using one's body as a weapon and not just using a weapon.
Jaune had been dreading this day all week as he knew physically he didn't stand a chance against many of his peers. Thankfully he was spared some embarrassment by making sure it was boys on boys and girls on girls.
For now, the plan was to get dressed and hopefully not come out of this too bad.
Jaune was heading into the locker room with Ren as the rest of the boys were getting dressed. Team CRDL was going to be MIA due to their team being one man short due to injuries so Professor Goodwitch had added a supplement team to help bump up the numbers for class.
Once Jaune and Ren got to their lockers it was quick to get changed as Jaune remembered he didn't have anything to actually change into.
His athletic clothes had gotten shredded this morning and he was without anything. Hell, even the clothes he was wearing right now he was not entirely sure of as Ren noticed Jaune not dressing down.
"Are you alright Jaune? We need to start heading back soon for class.", Ren said in his normal tone but held a raised eyebrow as Jaune quickly nodded.
"Um yes I'm just fine hehe", Jaune said nervously before pointing in the direction of the bathrooms as he excused himself first.
Ren merely shrugged remarking the odd behavior but for as long as he knew Jaune some of his quirks were just that, quirky.
Jaune soon stepped in and shut the door to the stall as he made sure the bathroom was empty before shaking his hands he looked down at his clothing and took a breath.
"Okay okay...this worked earlier so let's try again", he said soon concentrating as he thought about needing to change clothes.
At first, nothing was happening causing Jaune to frown as he scratched his head.
"Hey uh...voice...you there?", Jaune whispered but nothing came as he tapped the uniform he was wearing to no results.
"Jaune I'm heading to class you need to hurry", Ren called out making Jaune jump as he responded he would be there in a minute.
"Alright come on Arc focus", he said soon clenching his fist as he poured his thoughts into changing his clothes as hard as he could. He pictured athletic clothing and just about whatever he could get this stuff to change into as he grits his teeth.
Soon he began to hear it as he opened his eyes seeing the uniform almost melt into the familiar black goo from before as it slid across his skin before soon taking on a different look.
The jacket and shirt soon turned into a back sports tank top with Jaune's family crest adorned on the right peck.
His slacks turned quickly into a pair of long-legged running pants almost a dark grey and over his feet the substance having made even a pair of dark blue athletic shoes Jaune stared down in wonder before shaking his head as he whipped out of the stall needing to get to class.
He was cut short for a moment however as he looked in the mirror and his eyes went wide.
"Holy shit..."
By the time class had to begin Jaune was coming in right as people were separated into pairs. Professor Goodwitch walked around assigning people to various mats and places in the training arena before letting them take off into practicing combat without their weapons.
Jaune felt like he was barely decent with his own family sword and now he was going to have to try and figure this out as well. Although as he walked he currently had taken one of the towels from the locker room as it was wrapped around him as if he had just gotten out of a pool.
His entire body from his kneecaps up was covered as he came out of the main tunnel earning some laughter from others as Glynda could only shake her head and sigh.
"Mr. Arc I do believe I said get changed for hand-to-hand training, not swim training. You will do away with the towel and take your place on the mat", she said making Jaune wince from her tone as he knew he wasn't going to get out of this with her. What he had seen in the mirror had him frantically trying to manifest a hoodie out of the strange goo but nothing was working and his only reaction was the towel.
"Since you are also the last to come in you will be set up with the other only student to not be picked by normal means. I had to supplement some students and thankfully team CVFY was more than open to the idea.", she said as Jaune looked around indeed seeing the senior team mixed into the group.
From just the edge of the arena, Jaune saw Coco going up against Pyrrha, Ren taking on Fox, and Nora fighting with Velvet as everyone seemed to be holding their own. The realization of the missing member didn't go from Jaune's mind as he gulped soon looking toward the last lone opponent.
Yatsu was someone Jaune thought had hit the absolute jackpot on the benefits of being a huntsman. From his size to his muscles, heck to the way his weapon was so simple yet effective Jaune was able to really tell what a natural-born hunter would look like and Yatsu fit that to a perfect mold.
Even now as Jaune walked up he was trembling a bit seeing Yatsu in a calm position with his hands together almost as if he was meditating. His eyes never opened as he breathed in and out showing he was in fact alive.
The moment Jaune set foot on the mat that had been provided for today's lesson he noticed Yatsu open his eyes. Slowly the giant began cracking his knuckles and neck as the battles around them either began to come to an end or slowed down seeing the most likely one-sided fight that was about to happen.
"Hello Jaune", Yastu said with a bow of his head as Jaune returned it.
"I know we are to fight but I do hope you know this is all merely for the class and is nothing personal", he said as Jaune nodded still wondering how this was going to go.
"I know um...thanks, I guess", Jaune said not sure if he was supposed to feel better as he stood there in his towel covering. He soon felt the deep glare from Professor Goodwitch and he knew there was no hiding this anymore as he sighed and took a breath before pulling the towel off and throwing it behind him.
Now when many think of Jaune Arc there is this image of a guy walking around in full-on pajamas on the first day of the semester. Some would even use the term scraggily and perhaps other unflattering terms.
The Jaune Arc currently standing before a tower of a student would not be the one to fit those old descriptions.
Earlier in the Locker room
When Jaune stepped in front of the mirror he expected just to see himself and the clothes that were just generated but in fact, there was something he hadn't seen before.
Jaune knew what his body felt like, the way clothes fit on him, and what sizes he needed to feel comfortable and yet now he wasn't sure.
Gone were the slightly muscled arms and chest he knew from the workouts and the training. What replaced them was the very thing one might call a specimen of fitness.
His biceps were tight and muscled plenty but not so much that he looked like a bodybuilder. His chest was tight and toned as he looked at himself even lifting up the shirt as his eyes bulged out of his head as he felt his mouth drop open.
"I have abs...", he said looking down as a strong set of naturally toned muscles made up his abdomen.
Jaune never thought he would have the body of a hunter until way into his school life and yet now he looked as though he had been working out from the day he stepped onto Beacon.
"Did the voice...the black stuff...do this?", he said in disbelief before hearing the class outside as he gulped and grabbed a towel hoping to hide within it.
Back to the Present
Jaune stood there under the training arena lights in a body that didn't feel like his. He felt like he was at the max in every aspect of his physical feelings. Strength felt natural and strong and even the muscles in his legs felt like they almost had a mind of their own.
Yatsu looked at his opponent a bit surprised as he eyed the younger student up and down. His body looked like that of a warrior, every aspect of him having been honed to the point his body looked like a weapon. He narrowed his eyes at his wondering just where such a person found the time to hone their body. Even when he had arrived at Beacon many semesters ago it took a lot of training and discipline to get him to where he was now.
Was this Jaune Arc someone who possessed that same discipline? Yatsu hoped so as now he was looking for a worthy fight.
Meanwhile, Jaune was currently regretting waking up this morning as he felt the eyes of his opponent and just about every other student in the room. From first-year students to even the other members of CFVY, everyone was beginning to take an interest in the fight about to happen.
Glynda merely looked between the two and jotted some things down on a tablet as she eyed Jaune before raising her hand between the two.
"This is merely sparring so it ends when one taps, grapples, holds, and any form of close combat is allowed as long as no intense harm is done. Remember, this is to teach you the importance of your own body being just as much a weapon as the real weapons you will use", she remarked before letting her hand fall in a motion of beginning.
Yatsu and Jaune stepped onto the sparring mat that took up easily a full circle area enough for them to spar as Yatsu put up his hands in a form related to the region of the world he called home. Jaune didn't really know much about it having seen Ren use his own form of fight as well.
Jaune fumbled with his hands for a moment before pulling them up almost like that of a boxer. He had been training with his sword and shield this entire time so his own hands were no more lethal than when he started up to now.
Yatsu began to engage as he came closer making Jaune move on the outside as the two sized each other up, Jaune moved and planted his feet as much as he could. Despite this change in his body, he didn't have the skill to back it up fully yet and as he moved he took his eyes off Yatsu for a moment to check his own foot and that's when the match really began.
Yatsu shot at Jaune as the larger student covered the distance in three large steps, he swiped at Jaune making the blonde raise his hand to his head only for Yatsu to change his hit down lower as Jaune felt the connection hit his ribs making him shoot out the air in his lungs with a grunt as this sent Jaune in the direction of the hit a little bit as he stumbled but kept his ground.
The muscle below the hit ached and Jaune tried to summon aura only to soon hear the professor's voice.
"No Aura Mr. Arc you are to use your own strength naturally in your body. When you have nothing left, you should really showcase skills to survive and overcome your opponent.", she remarked as Jaune stopped trying to pull from his Aura as he took a breath feeling the pain mellow out as he shook his head.
Jaune moved in town taking a wild swing not showing form as Yatsu grabbed his arm and slung him over his head in a shoulder throw Jaune felt the world turn upside down before hitting the ground so hard he bounced a bit and felt his back muscles tight.
His eyes were shut tight for a moment before they opened as he saw Yatsu coming down with an axe kick only for Jaune to react out of instinct as he raised both arms and crossed them in an X block as he felt his leg slam down and catch between his wrists as he held it up and strained against the weight.
Meanwhile, on the outskirts of the match, others who had finished were watching now having placed bets over how quickly Jaune would go down and yet many raised an eyebrow and felt their mouths hang open a bit having seen Jaune block a hit from Yatsu who was known for ending the fight quickly with just one well placed hit.
"I must say Jaune you are more than I expected you to be", Yatsu said politely as tried to force down more weight but only for Jaune to grit his teeth as he quickly broke the block and switched to grabbing his opponent's leg as pulled it to the side making Yatsu stumble giving Jaune a chance to roll in the opposite direction as he slammed his hand down on the mat and forced himself up.
His team soon finished their fights with none having won and Pyrrha having ended her bout with a draw with Coco. Now they stood to the side drinking water as they watched.
"Damn red where was your leader hiding all of that?", Coco said wiping her neck with a towel as Pyrrha watched a little stunned seeing the form of Jaune's body.
"I merely trained him on how to fight...I don't think I have seen him in anything close to that training wear. He favors bigger clothes to train in for comfort...", Pyrrha said in slight astonishment as she watched her leader move and bend in ways she didn't even know he could.
Even the other members of their team watched with various reactions with Ren wearing a thoughtful expression wondering how Jaune hid such a body from them all while Nora merely clapped and whistled for her leader.
"Yeaaaaah let's go Jaune pump those guns!", she yelled making a few of the other students pay attention to her words, Jaune began moving a little more swiftly as he dodged and smacked away incoming attacks like his muscles understood what to do.
At one point Jaune began to feel confident as he decided to try and take another hit only for Yatsu to use the opening of another wild swing to deflect the hit he slammed his palm into Jaune's chest soon sending the knight back as he skidded before falling to his knee as he clutched his chest breathing a little more ragged as he felt his ribs aching from the abuse.
Jaune knew he wasn't a match for his opponent. Not only was Yatsu bigger but he was trained and held experience Jaune barely even had at all.
"What do I do here...damn it Arc think...", Jauned thought as he soon felt a familiar push in his thoughts.
"You are doing better than I thought you would", the voice said as Jaune felt his entire body go rigid before looking up as he saw Yatsu coming in with a knee making Jaune throw his entire body into a roll to the side as lifted himself up ignoring the pain in his chest as he spoke in his mind.
"So you are still here, I thought I was dreaming or something", Jaune thought as he gathered up his breath staying out the outskirts of the mat as Yatsu did the same but was growing impatient.
"I am not going anywhere Jaune you and I are one which also means when you feel pain so do I which is why I was awoken from my rest. Only to find you getting yourself beaten", the voice said in a tone that Jaune didn't enjoy very much making his brow furrowed as he looked at Yatsu.
Jaune felt anger rising in his chest and felt the slight slither of his 'clothing' reacting making him have to calm down as he didn't need to freak people out. Jaune did enough of wearing himself down with his own thoughts and now hearing this new passenger in his head doing it only made the experience infuriating.
"Easy for you to say I am the one getting pummeled", Jaune said dodging another hit as he knew he wasn't landing any damage so far.
"Summon the claws and tear him to shreds then", the voice remarked in a tone akin to wonder as if someone was confused as to why the action wasn't done already.
"No! We do not tear people apart", Jaune immediately yelled in his mind as Yatsu was beginning to slam Jaune's sides now making him pull in on himself
"We can do whatever we want Jaune, we don't have to be held down by these rules", the voice said trying to tempt Jaune as even its tone began to sound like someone was beating on it. This made Jaune for a second realize what it said was true, it felt the same pain.
The hits continued as the onlookers winced watching the pummeling and even Nora had died down watching her leader take such a beating.
"Why continue to be this weak? Did I not give you strength? Did I not fix this poor excuse for a warrior's body? Even using that wolf's strength to reshape your own into something more effective? Why are you still holding back...if you wish not to kill him then fine I will honor this...but...I will not lose to a mere human...You may not want the claws but you will take the gift I give you!", the voice demanded and proclaimed as Jaune felt something in his head almost break free like a floodgate.
As Jaune looked up and saw the attacks in coming Yatsu saw the slight opening between his arms as he formed a tight fist now. Coco shook her head seeing this as she adjusted her glasses and placed her hand on her hip.
"Welp, your leaders done for. Yatsu only makes a fist when he is ready to end things", she said as Fox only hummed in agreement and Velvet could only knit her hands together in worry over the entire thing.
Pyrrha and the rest of the team were all worried now watching this only to feel their sister team back them up as Ruby placed a hand on Pyrrha's back.
Weiss watched on somewhat intrigued that the dolt had survived this long while Yang could only make comments about what she would have done to each attack and how to overcome it.
Blake, however, was completely uninterested as she read her book as she dabbed at her forehead with a towel still in her training clothes. She was well versed in combat without her weapon so this was just like a training day for her and as her team made comments or others around them spoke her bow would twitch every so often. She found this final battle to be something she didn't really wanna know the outcome too.
Sure their sister team was good for conversation or plans but Blake didn't pay much attention to them least of all Jaune. She held a small admiration for him being willing to try so hard but even her expectations were not that high and yet something happened that made her shut her book.
Jaune in a flash remembered the battle in the room underground, the anger, the strength, the way he moved as well as what he took from the Grimm. The feelings that came into him and the flashes of images. Fields and forests he had never been to all seeped into his mind making him almost sick from the overload. In that moment he only used the memory of what it was like to hold such powerful and sharp claws and his body reacted.
Right now, he saw through red-tinted eyes, running and leaping over logs and around trees as he remembered running so hard and free. The movement so precise and agile. He had never done this and yet the Beowolf he killed had and its memories played in his mind but also in his body.
Jaune broke free from his mental movie as he watched the fist coming at him looking tight and wound up for damage and yet Jaune broke the block he was doing as his arms thrust out and he kicked off moving towards the fist making Yatsu widen his eyes in confusion.
Jaune felt the memories lining up with his body as he buried the thoughts of the claws. His fist soon bawled tightly as he immediately ducked under the hit before pouring strength into his legs as he aimed himself and pounced at Yatsu.
His feet left the ground and he latched onto the tower of a boy as Jaune used all his momentum to shove Yatsu down and like a tree he fell as Jaune crashed with him. Yatsu began trying to get up and swipe at Jaune only to watch his opponent curl and move against the hits as Jaune pushed off Yatsu's chest and slammed his feet down into the man's ankle earning a pained grunt as Jaune moved around his opponent.
Yatsu slowly got up but couldn't put pressure on his ankle feeling it ache as he staggered getting up. His breathing was firmer now as some anger seeped into his mask.
His look however changed to one of confusion mixed with...fear?
Jaune skulked around Yatsu now his legs bent as he walked on the balls of his feet, his shoulders low and his arms out to his sides as his fingers curled and remained open. To the onlookers, Jaunes's form had changed from someone trying to act like they had a form to one that seemed rehearsed and well-used.
Pyrrha looked at this form confused, it held nothing for that of a swordsman which she thought was all Jaune knew how to use. Even after knowing the secret of his lack of training, Pyrrha thought he had no surprises for her anymore, yet here he was showing another.
Nora watched in awe watching the battle shift and Ren could only swallow and watch his leader. These movements were different and yet watching them felt almost wrong as if they belonged to something they were meant to fight.
Ruby thought Jaune was perhaps the coolest person hear as she watched him move around the arena differently now. Even now Yang herself crossed her arms as she was interested in what Vomit boy was doing. Weiss however, thought his movements lacked class and discipline and could only scoff as she began to file her nails.
Blake though...was curious...these were not the moves of someone like Jaune...they seemed almost...animal but trained in a manner that was a form all in itself.
Jaune felt his body reacting to everything, the movement, and air, the pressure in the ground, was this a Grimm felt? To sense everything it was incredible and yet Jaune began to feel a throbbing pain in his head. The overload of it all was beginning to be too much as he knew he needed to end this.
With one look he could see had gotten Yatsu when he least expected it and that alone was his only advantage, now his opponent was hurt and in that, Jaune knew he was also more dangerous.
With one final burst of energy, Jaune kicked off from his place as he covered the distance very quickly. The audience watched as he moved less like a student and more like an animal as Yatsu planted his uninjured leg and took a stance as he pulled in his arms strongly before waiting for the moment Jaune got close enough to swing with a knife chop as he aimed for the space between Jaune's shoulder and neck.
Yatsu knew this move would incapacitate his opponent and be a bit of payback for the sprained ankle.
Yet, the moment he swung his fist down Jaune dropped to the ground as he watched him slide across the mat and under his legs, Jaune turned and kicked out the hurt ankle making Yatsu fall fully to the ground and on his knees before soon feeling a heavy and harsh weight shove him to the ground and pin him.
Jaune had dug his feet into the back of Yatsu's knees as well as grabbed a flailing arm before pinning it to his lower back. With Jaune's free hand, he slammed Yatsu's face down into the mat as he held him pinned only to soon hear the tapping of his hand on the mat.
Thought Jaune had finished the sight of him over Yatsu like he was holding a certain stance to him that bothered some people. Even Professor Goodwitch looked somewhat bothered as Jaune got up and helped Yatsu up as well as he soon began to glow from his aura as he was able to put pressure on his ankle.
"I must say Jaune...I did not expect to lose...nor did I expect you to fight in such a different style...it was...intense if I am, to be honest", he said as Jaune only breathed in gulps of air as sweat dripped off his face and arms. The effort made him almost shiny from the sweat as he furrowed his brow.
"I was just...following my instincts, I guess...sorry for the ankle", Jaune said as Yatsu could only chuckle.
"I apologize for the bruised ribs", he said as Jaune gave an awkward smile but also a thumbs up as soon Professor Goodwitch walked out and congratulated Jaune as Yatsu walked back to his team slowly.
"Mr. Arc I must say this new...combat form of yours is strangely effective. Where did you learn such movements If I may ask?", she said with a tone of curiosity as others around them leaned in curious as well seeing as how Jaune just went up against the toughest opponent of the day and actually came out on top.
"I mean...I was just...underestimated I guess and used that to win...not like I was fighting any special way", he said as Goodwitch could only take silence for a moment before speaking.
"Mr. Arc I will tell you that the way you were fought well...the movements were familiar and I'm sure your classmates felt somewhat odd over seeing them", she said looking around as few gave a nod and others held looks of somewhat stressed expressions.
Professor Goodwitch soon typed away on her tablet before bringing down a screen as she showed the fight between Yatsu and Jaune.
Jaune himself was confused as to why this was becoming such a big deal. He always tried to stay out of the spotlight and yet here he was right in it.
"You fought with glory and the skills of someone who wants to win be proud of that", the voice said, Jaune could only sigh as he crossed his arms.
The fight soon started on the screen again showing the specifically the point where Jaune's fighting style changed as everyone watched.
"I'm sure you all are wondering why I am putting so much emphasis on this one battle, that is because Mr. Arc has done something not many can achieve. When fighting Grimm it is important to have an understanding of our enemies and expect their attacks and know how to counter", Goodwitch said before soon tapping on her tablet and pulling up a small silhouette program as she overlaid something on top of Jaune's body in the video.
Jaune's eyes soon widened as did everyone else's when they saw a shadowed shape of a Beowolf over Jaune as the movements and fighting style mimicked their own with Jaune's own movements mixed in.
"Here at Beacon we hone a student to become a protector of life and to fight the very beasts that threaten it, their darkness is something we fight with everything we have and yet sometimes we learn from that darkness...Mr. Arc can be seen here..."
"Fighting like a Grimm...", Blake finished as her voice broke the air and Jaune's heart dropped into his stomach at the realization.
