After hearing Nyx's startling news, the three switched hotels, forcing Larten to have a brief moment with the sun as they traveled several blocks away from the other one.
Nyx may be slightly mischievous, but she was not one spilling tales, she knew someone was in the room while she and Evra slept and Larten was not in the hotel with items clearly taken and the two guys didn't question it.
Evra was scared for Nyx, it was eerie to feel as if someone was targeting the child, so when night fell, the snakeboy took precaution and nailed the windows shut in the new place so no one could come in that way.
For a couple of first nights in the new hotel, Larten had decided to not venture out on his endeavor, staking outside of the hotel just to be on the safe side and to assure Nyx that it wasn't going to happen again.
However, it didn't ease her at all.
Inside the bathtub, water filled up and bubbles in an attempt to have her relax, Nyx couldn't shake this awful feeling. Though the water was warm, her blood ran ice cold.
The sound of Silas' god-awful cackling rang in her ears, having her covering them with her hands.
Could it be really him…? Nyx whimpered in thought. She hopes it really wasn't.
There was a knock on the door. "Nyx, are you okay in there?" It was Evra.
Nyx sat up in the tub, hugging herself. "I'm okay…just trying to get clean….I'll be out soon." Nyx called out.
"Oh no, take your time, just checking on you." Evra said from behind the door before retreating back.
It did feel nice that Nyx had people looking after her and she wasn't feeling alone. She rubbed her eyes before dipping her head in the water, staying there for a moment before coming back up.
"I hope they don't get hurt because of me…" Nyx whispered softly.
Knowing full well that Silas will not stop until he has her, people are going to get hurt if they stand in his way.
Outside of the bathroom, Evra withdrew from the door and sighed heavily, rubbing his face before the main door opened and Larten entered with a tired expression on his face.
"You see anything out there?" Evra asked as Larten sat down on a chair with a grunt.
"No," the vampire responded. "For right now things look to be safe, how is she?" He asked about Nyx.
"She's bathing right now, but I can tell she's still shaken up." Evra sighed as he went over to one of the beds and got up on it.
Larten let out a sigh, "Right now, I did not see anyone other than the usual occupants so I think tomorrow I shall resume what I came to do."
Evra glanced up at him. "And that is… ?"
"It is not your business to know."
Evra grunted. "Excuse me for saying this but that's a load of crap. What have you been doing? "
Larten glared at him. "It is rather personal I do not need to discuss with-"
"Does this have something to do with the human killings?" Evra then blurted.
Larten stared silently at the snakeboy for a long time before asking, "What do you know of them?"
"Just that six or seven humans were killed by a vampire, at least that's what the news says. Their blood was drained." Evra responded. "I'm not saying it's you or anything but when you keep going off all night without even talking to us and coming back when the sun is up and we learn about this, well you can see why I'm asking. It's this actually vampire related or just a sick human doing this?"
Larten scratched his long scar with a nail as Evra talked.
"It is somewhat vampire related I am afraid, but the one who has been doing the deeds is whom I am after." Larten responded. Since Evra is not a vampire, he didn't feel the need to tell him about the Vampaneze.
Evra frowned.
Larten sighed again before leaning forward in the chair, interlocking his fingers. "Vampires do not necessarily kill those we feed upon. The one I am after is a creature similar to vampires but they kill those they feed, this one especially has gone mad and I mean to put them down before others in this city are killed."
Evra hummed in thought as he let that sink in. He heard that vampires were not the only blood sucking creatures but thought that itself was a rumor. Then giving what Nyx had been saying since they got to the city.
"Evra, what is it?" Larten then asked.
"Just… thinking about something. Nyx said she thought she saw someone a while ago something that scared her, and now the break-in we had at the other hotel. You think both situations plus your vampire killings are connected?"
"What did Nyx see?" Larten pressed, first hearing of this, causing him to sit up.
"That's just it, she didn't say what. But she definitely saw something because at that moment you can see her just drenched in fear. It wasn't something she faked," Evra rubbed where she grabbed him that day. "She thought she was seeing things but she definitely saw someone she did not want to see."
"Why am I now hearing of this?" Larten asked, irritated.
"I tried but you brushed us off during your crusade." Evra half chuckled.
Larten thought back to that and vaguely remembered doing such.
Then a dark expression loomed over Evra's face. "You think… Do you think he's here? The one that turned Nyx? Her sire?"
A dark chill ran down Larten's spine as that thought crossed his mind.
Vampaneze are mostly traditionalists, Murloguh most certainly was, now thinking about it, they do not steal from their target. Nyx wasn't marked.
Which meant that there were currently two psychopaths, both unrelated, let loose in the city.
One has Nyx targeted.
Larten rubbed his forehead and grunted. "I should have never brought Nyx here if it was going to cause trouble."
Nyx was about to exit the bathroom when she heard that and stopped.
"What a coincidence that two psychopaths are in this city?" Evra asked. "It's not Nyx's fault that this is happening."
"But it makes my job harder now I have to track down two of them and protect her." Larten responded. Then let out a deep sigh. "It is just an unforeseen circumstance."
Nyx opened the door and came out of the bathroom, the two guys stopped talking when she came out. She gave them a silent look before she went to her bed and hopped on it, bunching her legs up to her chest and hugging herself.
"You okay, Nyx?" Evra asked her.
"I'm good… I don't want to cause trouble." She murmured, turning to look away from them.
