The next day, to try and lift some spirits, Evra decided to help Nyx recreate the missing spider doll, though he wasn't good with sewing.
"I don't know how you or Truska can do this daily," Evra muttered as he tried to measure the fabric to match the remaining legs.
"It's easy, like a puzzle." Nyx said in a soft tone, finishing sewing up the head of the new spider doll. She looked at Evra's work and saw that the edges of his work were raggedy and uneven, not really how she had wanted it to be.
But she didn't comment on that and quickly finished up the head. She sighed softly.
"Is everything okay?" Evra asked, trying and failing to trim up the edges. She gave him a shallow nod, looking into the button eyes of the spider head doll. "If it's about my doll, I know it's not Christmas but I do like it." He said. Glancing at the green snake doll on his bed, having a long tongue sticking out at him cutely. It was exposed when they found her in the closet.
She gave Evra a look before glancing over where Larten slept.
What she overheard the guys talking about was bothering her. She didn't mean to cause trouble with everyone, it was never her intention.
She goes to the bag of fabrics to see what colors she had left and frowned. There were tiny scraps left and not enough to make the doll's body. "I…I need more fabric."
Evra gazed up at her, it was hard to get inside her head due to the fact she keeps a very tight lip on almost everything. He gets it's hard for her to talk about things but he didn't want her to completely shut down on him.
After considering it, he sighed. "Okay," he said, getting up. "But we gotta hurry, we don't want to be out after dark again." He said.
Since the last time they were out after dark, Nyx believed she saw her old sire again.
Nyx nodded before both of them got their jackets and disguises and headed out the door.
The two walked down the streets on the way to the craft store, Nyx keeping really close almost joined to Evra's hip. However, though she did feel safe with him, Nyx kept eyes around their surroundings as they walked down the sidewalks in the main shopping district. They were in and out of the craft store with what Nyx needed.
However, as Evra had the door opened, he walked into another person. "Oh sorry."
"It's fine." It was a girl's voice. "Oh hey, it's you two!"
The two looked and Nyx bit her lower lip as she recognized her. It was the girl she saw back at the old hotel. She only saw her from the window however.
Nyx sniffed the air and took in her scent, she smelt nice…a little too nice.
Evra glanced down at Nyx before looking back at the girl. "I'm sorry, but do we know you?"
The girl shook her head. "Oh no, sorry but I've seen you guys playing in the courtyard from my house, from the hotel."
"I saw her around," Nyx muttered softly to Evra.
The girl looked behind Evra to see Nyx and smiled at her. "It's okay, I won't bite." She said before looking at Evra again and held her hand out. "I'm Debbie, Debbie Hemlock."
Evra, slightly hesitate, raised his gloved hand and grabbed hers and shook it. "Evra Von, and this is my little sister, Nyx."
"Von what?" Debbie asked curiously, dropping her hand from his.
"Just Von." Evra said, since it was a bit of an inside joke he chuckled behind his facemask. He noticed she was staring at his mask. "I haven't been very well and I don't want to spread what I got to others."
"Oh gosh, I'm sorry." Debbie said. "Sorry, I shouldn't be staring. I do hope you get to feeling better, it sucks being sick this close to Christmas."
Debbie then looked at Nyx and giggled. "Nyx and Evra, those are quite interesting names."
"At least we're not named after a poison plant." Nyx quipped.
Evra let out a snort and elbowed her. "Nyxsssss!" He let out a serpent-like hiss which made him blush.
Luckly, Debbie didn't register the snake hiss and giggled. "No it's okay, it is weird that my family's name is after it." She then adjusted her beanie. "My family and I just moved here and so far you guys are the only kids I've come across."
"Yeah, sorry we usually don't interact with others but ourselves, Nyx especially." He said, putting a hand on her shoulder to assure she was okay.
"I understand, meeting new people is kinda scary."
"But you're not scared of us."
"Should I?"
As the two bickered, Nyx couldn't help but take more of Debbie's scent, the hairs along her arms were sticking up. She was nice, very pretty, very innocent. As innocent as Sam was over a year ago.
She began to not hear her voice as it was being overpowered by her heartbeat. Listening to the heart thumped in rhythm like a beat to music. Her clothes seemed to blur as Nyx began to see her blood vessels visibly glowing, making her mouth water.
Oh no.
She gripped onto Evra's sleeve and whispered. "Evra, I'm hungry." she whispered.
Evra glanced at her. "We'll pick something up on the way." He said.
Nyx shook her head. "Not that hunger." she emphasized. She looked back at Debbie, only seeing her blood vessels and every other person in the shop.
His eyes widened. "Ooooooh." He gulped.
He has to get her back.
"Hey it was nice to meet you Debbie, but we have to go." Evra said before grabbing her hand and pulling her away briskly, nearly pushing Debbie aside as they went out the door.
"Oh, goodbye?" Debbie watched him with a raised brow as the two quickly left.
Nyx and Evra dug into their bags not long after they got back, looking for vials of blood they had previously stored before they left the Cirque Du Freak. Digging in each other's bags to look for it.
Throughout the time they were there, Nyx had been using bottles since she didn't quite get the art of breaking into people's homes while they are asleep and feeding on them while they're sleeping, still learning how to regulate herself and not incidentally kill someone in their sleep.
However, it quickly became apparent that she had run out.
When Larten came out of the bedroom, had already been dressed and ready to resume his hunt, Nyx looked up from her bed.
"Larten?" Nyx called out, there was hesitation in her voice as the previous night's words still stung her.
Larten stops mid stride, turning to face her, he looks at her softly before saying, "What is it?"
Nyx then holds up an empty bottle. "I'm hungry, there's no more blood."
Larten grunted, patting his many pockets to see he himself had some on his person. To his dismay, he didn't.
"I don't know how to go out and hunt for myself." She then said.
Evra stared between the two, knowing that Nyx may have to go out with him, the sun was down and he didn't know it was safe for her to be out there. However this was vampire matters so he's staying out of it… for now.
What neither Evra and Larten knew, Nyx wanted to go out. Having another reason why she would want to go out at night with the red cladded vampire.
Larten had to take a moment, grumbling about already wasting too much time as Murlough might have already taken a victim. And the matter of potentially Nyx's sire stalking the streets.
Weighing in the risks of bringing Nyx out in the open.
Then again, if Nyx isn't fed, that thing, her feral side would come out and he didn't want that to happen.
With a frustrated groan, rubbing his face, he shook his head. "Nyx, grab your coat, you're coming with me."
Nyx nodded and hopped off the bed and grabbed the coat and her beanie, leaving the eyepatch there.
"Be careful." Evra said it was clear he was worried.
"I will." Nyx said before heading out the door with Larten.
Debbie Hemlock was finishing up her last minute shopping as the moon hung over the city. Gathering up the last of the list her mother needed for Christmas dinner.
Deciding however to try and take a faster route, Debbie went down several alleyways and corners, as a way to also find her way around this new city of hers.
It was easier said than done as she ended up getting backtracked and missed a turn. Ultimately getting lost.
Lost was never a good thing, especially since she was standing in a stranded alley with one flickering street lamp, making her feel like she was in a horror film.
Without realizing in fact she was in fact in a horror film.
She hears something drop behind her, causing her to gasp and whip around to see who it was.
The figure was too fast as he shot a hand out at her, grabbing her by the throat and lifted her up in the air with such force it caused Debbie to drop her items.
As Debbie struggled to try and breathe, the last thing she saw was a wild looking man with inky black veins creeping all over his body before everything went black.
