Natsu Dragneel is as simple as you can get. He wears his heart on his sleeves and emotions fuel his fire within. He didn't like complicated things nor did he care for beating around the bush till he could finally muster up enough courage to say things.
That is, until he met her.
He always had goals and plans for the future. Find Igneel. Become stronger. Protect his family. Eat all the yummy foods.
His sight was simple. Easy. One way route.
Then Lucy came along and always put bumps in the road causing his motion sickness to trigger and he honestly had no idea someone as bright and tiny as her could impact his life so heavily.
His goals became more blurry and out of reach but that didn't mean he had abandoned them immediately. He just had some things to do before his own goals were obtainable and if that meant he had to jump through hoops and catch a certain celestial wizard who fell from the heavens way too often, then so be it.
Natsu is a strong believer in simplicity because why make things hard when it could be dealt with in an instant? Like punching that asshole in the face or letting someone know he didn't care for their teasing or enjoying some fresh new fire that danced seductively in its wake.
But something of this sort wasn't simple and as much as he liked it to be, it became more confusing in the long run so he didn't really care to dig deep into it. He came to an understanding that he has very strong feelings for the celestial mage but he didn't know how to decipher it so he did what he usually did when things become too confusing.
Ignore it.
But it was so hard to ignore when she was always there. It also didn't help that he wanted her to be around. He'd rather wake up every morning to her screaming in his ear and kicking him out her window than sleep in his too quiet of a home in an uncomfortable hammock.
Lucy may not want to say or act upon her own emotions; women were complicated that way, but he for sure knew what the future would entail because he was also a goal-driven man.
Maybe his other goals could wait because one thing Lucy taught him was that every problem had a solution.
And his solution wasn't out of reach, it was just not ready.
And whenever Lucy was ready, he was there.
Ready to catch her.
Again and again.
Because it was too easy and way too simple to fall in love with such a passionate mage like her.
