prompt thirty four: cuddling/nightmare

rate: K+

Thirty four out of one hundred.

I think this is my first time participating in a NaLu challenge. Well, not really since I'm not going to be submitting it on my own lol but writing and doing the prompts, yes. Idk if this really counts anyways since I'm posting it on here but oh well. Here are some new prompts for you all. Completely forgot about this so two updates in one day wo

Natsu woke up with a gasp ripping out of his throat and his entire body practically drenched in sweat as he threw himself upright. He was honestly surprised he didn't burst into flames in his sleep or end up burning everything around him. His chest heaved with his heavy breathing and the only thing he could hear was the rain that pounded against the window.

It's been like this ever since he's seen Lucy die right in front of him. And of course there was that time too when he thought she was dead and it ripped his very heart out of his body and he almost killed his best friend but eh.

Every time it was the same nightmare. Every time he couldn't get to her on time. Every time she died in his arms and he couldn't escape the hellish nightmare that continued to plague his mind with such thoughts.

It drove him insane and he had no idea how to stop them. It was truly his worst fear and having to see it over and over and over again really sucked.

"Natsu?" A soft voice brought him back from his thoughts, his head turning to the side to see the sleepy celestial mage who stirred awake. "Everything okay?"

Even when he was asleep next to Lucy, he would have these nightmares. It was only when he was able to see her and feel her that his worry would disappear.

"Yeah…" he rasped out. "Just… a bad dream."

"The same one again?" She asked while rubbing at her eye and he could only swallow hard before nodding. "Come here." She murmured, shifting the blankets to open it up to him. He didn't even realize he was sleeping on top of the blankets until then, his overheated body feeling hotter than ever as he finally processed that he was safe and so was Lucy.

He shifted back into bed, laying right beside Lucy who held her arms open for him to crawl right into them. She moved to get comfortable and once her arms were around him and his were around her, he felt safe.

"Don't… don't leave me… okay, Luce?" His voice was barely a whisper but he knew she heard him with the way she hummed. He felt the vibrations against his chest as she snuggled deeper into his arms, already succumbing to her drowsiness.

"As long as you don't leave me, Natsu." She said, voice heavy with sleep. "Again."

"I'll always come back to you," he squeezed her tighter against his body. "Always."
