"So…" Issei led the three leaders into his home. "I guess I should welcome you into my home first. Ajuka and Sirzechs here saw it already, but you are new here, Michael."
"It is a pretty lovely home, but…" Michael trailed off, his voice tinged with curiosity. "I don't sense anyone. For that matter, the house itself feels empty. Why is that?"
Issei smiled awkwardly. "Yeah, it used to be our home, but as our numbers grew, we had to move. The place is more of a guest house or cover now, depending on how you want to see it." He took out the key from his inventory; then he put it inside the door that led outside. Everyone there was taken aback, their curiosity piqued, as the outlines of the door lit up, and when Issei opened it, it led to a completely different area.
"Fascinating." Ajuka was first to enter the Dragon's Fortress, and the entire group found itself on the balcony area overlooking the yard. The endless, seemingly infinite thorny wall that protected the fortress and beyond it was naught but the horizon. All of them were in complete awe at the sight, Ajuka more than everyone. "This is…How could you support such an extensive pocket dimension? I mean- Even Gods need to be mindful when creating something akin to a pocket dimension for their leisure, but this is bigger than any such domain I've seen!"
"This is also just the area I call home now. Welcome to the Dragon's Fortress." Issei welcomed them, and then the door opened, allowing Leonna to come through.
"Master, I see you've returned. With guests nonetheless. Should I prepare some rooms and inform Blackberry to prepare certain dishes per their request?"
"Master?" Michael echoed in confusion. "Ise, who is this…" His eyes couldn't help but notice that Leonna was quite…gifted. He gulped, averting his gaze from more sensible areas. "Who is this young lady?"
"This is Leonna." Issei began as his maid gave a bow. "She is one of the beings created by and bound to this realm. "
"One of the beings- Do you mean to tell us this place can create and support life?!" Now, it was Sirzech's time to be surprised. "I've only heard of a Longinus with that power, but to see it used in different hands, this is just…Ludicrous!"
Issei smiled awkwardly again. "Yeah, I guess it seems like a lot to take in. But then again, you all suspected that I am not quite normal, even by Supernatural standards."
"Ise, with all due respect…BY THIS POINT EVERYTHING NO LONGER MAKES ANY FUCKING SENSE!" Ajuka lost his cool and shouted aloud, grabbing at his head. "Your race, energies in your body, rate of growth, not to mention this place - everything here can no longer be explained even by the most ludicrous explanation out there! It just…It…It is…"
"Oh my…"
"I've never seen Ajuka lose his words like this," Sirzechs commented, utterly shocked by his friend's behavior. Ajuka looked like he was on the verge of a stroke!
"Just…Please…I beg of you, Issei Hyoudou…" Ajuka approached him, placing his hands on Issei's shoulders. "Please, shed light on the mystery surrounding you. Tell me what it is that grants you power, and explain to me how such things are possible."
Issei pondered it for a bit, then sighed. "Fine. But I want a promise from all of you that what you are about to learn will not get shared with the general masses or anyone else. Just like before, this place is also to be kept secret. And to be extra blunt? May you all get raped by the raging bull of Minos of all beings should you dare speak!"
"You have my word!" Ajuka was quick to agree.
"Mine as well. I am also curious, and in all honesty, I think Ajuka could use the aid."
"You have my word as well. We promise not to utter a word of what we will hear there." Sirzechs finished.
"Well then, it is quite simple." Ajuka looked at Issei right on. "I am a video game character."
"A…A…" And so, Ajuka Beelzebub officially collapsed.
"I didn't see that coming," Issei commented.
"Neither did we. Quite the joke there, however, Ise, but truly now, tell us what the truth is." Sirzechs asked; however, Michael cleared his throat. The seraph looked very nervous. Looking at him, Sirzechs slowly began to sweat, and slowly, his face gained a twitch. "He isn't joking, is he? He is serious."
"And honest," Michael added.
"This…This is going to need a bit more of an explanation, Issei." Sirzechs requested.
"Well then, I guess I should begin from the start. Let's go to a more comfortable room; Leonna, please pick Ajuka Beelzebub up and bring him with us. Along with some cold water to splash him with."
"At once, Master."
Later, Issei, along with Sirzechs, an unconscious Ajuka, and Michael, were standing in a small office room with a nice enough table and two sofas on either side for them to sit on. Once there, Leonna brought the water, which Sirzechs took and splashed on Ajuka's face. The devil jolted awake and calmed himself a bit as he recovered his grasp on reality. Once he was stable, Issei began to explain the system to them.
He was taking it slow, answering any questions they might have. He could have been more specific at the start about the aid that was given to him when he first unlocked the system, but other than that, nothing else was left unsaid. Well, for the most part, there were a few details he felt had to be kept secret. But slowly, he neared the end, and eventually, he was finished, letting them absorb the information.
"This is…Honestly, this is quite the reason for a riot." Ajuka commented. "Such power could one day - A day much closer than we imagine if your growth rate is anything to go by - allow you to climb the steps of godhood and claim a seat among the heavens themselves."
"I agree; if such information were to become public, many could easily feel threatened by your power and seek to eliminate you early!" Michael replied with brutal honesty. "Why, if I had been aware of such facts earlier, I might have considered taking such actions."
"So much power…" That was all Sirzech could say.
"I know this is a lot to take in. I also wield Solomon's magic thanks to this, and, well…" He sighed. "You may speak now, Solomon."
"Solomon?" Michael echoed.
"Thank you, Issei." The voice without a body had them spooked for a second, but Michael recognized it swiftly. Ajuka and Sirzechs felt their skin crawl from the sound, however, and looked at Issei as the source answered their questions.
"Solomon is the aid you mentioned!" Ajuka stated aloud.
"Alive and kicking! Somewhat." Solomon added. "I've been with Issei for a good decade now, and I am proud to think of him as my student. I am, however, obliged to say that it is an honor to meet you again, Lord Michael."
"N-no need for honorifics, Solomon. If anything, it is somewhat refreshing to meet an old acquaintance. In spite of your sins, you were still a favorite of the Lord, and seeing you here - or hearing you here, now, affirms my belief that Issei was taught well. It seems you have also recovered your gift of wisdom."
"Indeed I have, Michael. Granted, I remain an old man. If anything, I am but a shadow of my former self."
"Please, do not speak like that, O wise one," Michael added. "You build God's first temple. And you were chosen as one of his favorites before the birth of Christ. You believed when others had nothing to believe in, and for that, you will always have a place in Heaven, should this system ever release your soul."
"This also explains the feeling we've been getting when around you," Sirzechs stated. "Solomon is a feared man among our kin. Our history hails him as the most dangerous enemy to our kind, second only to God himself. It didn't help he was mortal yet could make even the greatest of demons bow to him."
"I take quite a bit of pride in that part of my accomplishments," Solomon added. "But enough of my yapping. My good gentlemen, I think it is high time that our meeting was cut short. Issei here has much training to fulfill, should he be prepared for the day he faces against the White Dragon Emperor."
Issei sighed. "One of the few things to know, I guess, is how Solomon handles my training."
"Indeed! You have fully recovered, Issei, so it's best to spend that rejuvenated energy training yet again! Chop, chop! Dummy is waiting!"
"I guess we will talk later?" Issei asked.
"Of course. We also need time to process things and discuss further details for the upcoming conference." Sirzechs replied. "By the way, your maid there mentioned someone named Blackberry earlier?"
"The cook. He is the one who handles all the food here and cooks for everyone within those walls. Feel free to ask him for everything you might desire, and he seems to have innate knowledge of any recipe out there."
"Oh." Michael sounded intrigued by that. "Can he do drinks as well? I don't want to sound slothful, but I did take the time to enjoy a rare break once with a vanilla milkshake."
"I'm sure he can do it."
"Issei…" Solomon's voice had the boy remember he had to go.
"Right. Later, everyone."
Walking onto his training grounds, Issei was preparing to begin his training yet again. However, upon arriving, he sensed someone near him, making him turn around just in time to see the familiar dress peeking out from around the corner. He didn't need his skill to tell him who this was, as he knew only one person who wore such dressed. "Ravel." He called out to her, and the girl came out from her hiding spot.
"Red Dragon." She greeted him back, but Issei didn't need someone to tell him that things were a bit tense between the two of them. "Are you about to train again?"
"I was, but first of all, what is it with you here? You might be able to walk around the Fortress as you please, but I was under the impression you were to be kept under watch. Not to mention having this area off-limits to you."
"I slipped past my watcher and came here by mistake," Ravel admitted, but her words struck another cord in Issei.
"Did you…Attempt to escape?"
"No!" Ravel replied strongly, not wishing to give off the wrong impression. "I was just…Looking for a change of scenery. Being restricted to certain areas had quickly become boorish."
"I see. I guess that if I were in your position, I'd be looking for novelty as well." Issei replied, trying to be more understanding. "But tell me, honestly, how are you finding your stay here?"
"It's not bad," Ravel replied with weakly hidden nervousness. "But it is uncomfortable, knowing I am a prisoner. Red Dragon, tell me, is my father…Alright, still?"
"I have held my end of the bargain, Ravel. I am not dishonest. Ramon Phenex has been providing me with Phoenix Tears and gave me the money I asked for, not to mention the fact you offered your freedom in exchange for his life. A noble sacrifice."
"I see…I'm glad."
+2 RP with Ravel Phenex.
"Tell me, however." Issei began, drawing her attention once more. "Why?"
"What do you mean?" She asked back.
"Why sacrifice your freedom for your father? Even you must realize the risk you took. Even now, if he were to come in front of me again, I'd barely restrain myself from punching his face in."
"I know what my father did was not fair, especially to you. I know he did something unforgivable, but he remains my father. If he had been killed and the news had spread to the rest of Hell, our family would have been known as the House who dared anger the Red Dragon of Domination. I know it might not seem that important sans a strike to our reputation, but Devil Society is not that forgiving or lacking cowards. If this had come to pass, business partners would have backed down, afraid that relating to us would draw your fury in kind." Ravel explained. "I have a feeling, however, that such worries are untrue."
"They are. What reason would I have to attack those people, seeing how they had no hand in my parent's murder like your father had?" Issei asked back. "Foolishness, I say. Still, I take it that means you gave yourself up not only out of love for your family but also the stability of the Phenex House, correct?"
"Indeed. However, during my stay here, I've had time to think and reflect on other things. Tell me, Issei Hyoudou…What do you wish to do with me?"
"Do with you?" Issei echoed in mild confusion. "Whatever do you mean by such a question?"
"The reputation of the Red Dragon is vast." Again, with the reputation of the Red Dragon Emperor. Truly, he will have a blight until the end. "I am aware of their lust and how they gather giant harems to attend to every need they desire. My brother, Riser, was no better. His entire peerage is his to toy with as he wishes - a fact I am wholly aware of, given how I've caught him more than once in unsightly positions with his peerage members, except me, as I do not partake in their fornication."
"You think I want to-" Issei shook his head. "No, no, no! Rest assured, I am no advocate for rape!"
Ravel took a breath of relief hearing his words, but then she asked. "Then, what are your plans with me? If you do not wish to take my maidenhood, to claim me as compensation the way I thought you would, then what use have you of me?"
"None," Issei replied with honesty. "As far as I am concerned, I did this because everyone begged me not to kill Ramon. I took this trade instead, not giving any thought to what will come next. Heck, I didn't even call you during the entire event with the Excaliburs! I left you blissfully unaware of what was going on here, within the Fortress."
"I heard of what happened…I really was unaware. Why didn't you call me, however? Surely, you didn't forget I existed?"
"Because I can tell you are not that powerful. No, bringing you with us would have put you at risk. The being we faced, Kokabiel, was no weakling. I might have been tired already by the time I fought him, but I could tell that even at my best, he wouldn't have gone down easily."
"There were other ways I could have helped!" Ravel argued.
"Such as?"
"Do you think Riser was winning all of his Rating Games alone? He is powerful, not smart!"
"Ha! That much we can agree on." Issei laughed at Ravel's straight fact.
"I planned every single strategy he ever used in Rating Games. Yubellunna blowing up the enemy once several of them gathered in one place? That is also one of mine." Ravel admitted, and now, she truly had Issei's attention. "I spend time researching and coming up with plans to deal with any enemy we face. Had we known you were the Red Dragon Emperor earlier, we may have been better prepared, but…" She bit her lip nervously. "Even then, my brother doesn't always listen to me."
"Is there something you are trying to say? Ravel, I get it. You have strategic talent, which, now that you brought it up, I will be trying to see if you can be of use around here, as you wish, but I feel like there is something you want to say that you are not saying. Something about your brother?"
"Riser…He tried to cheat." Issei's eyes turned draconic, his pupils becoming slits at the mention of the word. Ravel recoiled, seeing his eyes change, and took a step back out of fear of his wrath. 'H-he wanted to plant illegal, holy objects in Rias' office, but the agent he hired for that job tricked him and got rid of the items!"
"So, ultimately, nothing was planted to make Rias lose automatically?"
"No. However, Riser was surprised to find out the Rating Game was still being held. That is why he asked for an extension, to figure out what happened and if there was anything he could do. But there wasn't; there was not enough time." Ravel confessed further. "He was wary of you due to you being an unknown factor; frankly, we were right to be, given what you proved to be."
"He tried to cheat…" Issei sighed. "Why aren't I surprised? What is he doing anyway? You did get to see him after the Rating Game, before coming here, did you not?" Ravel remained silent at his words, shuffling around awkwardly. "Ravel?"
"Riser…It wasn't good after the Rating Game. Following his recovery, he seemed to grasp reality barely. He believed he had won but soon seemed to realize it was the opposite. His peerage tried to help him, and they did, to some degree. He had accepted the reality of his loss and didn't throw any tantrums, but he did begin exhibiting certain symptoms."
"Symptoms?"
"Of terror. Just like our father, it seems Riser has been marked by fear. Fear birthed by encountering the Red Dragon of Domination."
"Serves him right. That is the fate of those who dare to underestimate us. Best they live in fear of us, then dare challenge us again." Ddraig pointed out as his voice spooked Ravel further.
"I understand that now, Dragon," Ravel replied. "Still, with all of that being said, Issei, I do ask that you show my family mercy. Only my father is responsible for what happened, and I paid the price for that already."
"That you did, Ravel…But how about I ask you this next? Technically, you are part of no one's peerage. Do you wish to grow in power?" Ravel perked up at the proposal.
"You mean, you want me to join your peerage?" She asked.
"No. At least, not yet. If you are honest about your skills, then I am willing to give you a chance to prove it. Train yourself, and I will one day test you. If I deem you good enough, I will allow you to join my peerage should you wish so. Otherwise, you will have to try again until you manage to get my approval." Issei laid down his terms.
"And what would my joining your peerage entail?" Ravel asked further. "Forgive me if I seem ungrateful to the invitation, Red Dragon, but…I see no reason actually to join, aside from the promise of power."
"I don't blame you. Nor will I promise you something to convince you to join." Issei added.
"Hmm. How about instead of you offering, I ask for something?" Ravel asked, catching his attention.
"You wish to ask me for something? Your position doesn't really give you a strong hook, but I'll bite. Tell me, Ravel, what is it you wish to acquire if you do make it into my peerage?" Issei asked further.
"My father's forgiveness."
"Forget it." Issei quickly shot that down.
"Wait! Allow me to explain further. I do not want you to forgive him fully, but partially. I wish to be able to go back and visit my home again and, if possible, for you to remove the seal you placed on him."
"Hmm. I guess those are agreeable terms, apart from me removing the seal. That stays on him until I decide otherwise, and there is nothing in this world that can change that." Issei stated firmly. "So, overall, you wish for the right to return to your home in the underworld, is that correct?" She nodded. "I can allow that as long as you promise never to linger there for more than one week. Stay more, and I will personally come to take you back. I do not wish to seem like I own your life, but truth be told, that is our situation. You offered yourself to save your father. Two Satans saw it, and I do not doubt that your father received his stern punishment by their hands as well."
"I wouldn't know. He was still being judged when I left, with guards placed by Lord Ajuka keeping vigil over him." Ravel revealed. "So, I guess this means I am to train hard, aren't I? To earn the right to return to my house, even if it is a limited visiting time."
"Indeed. Don't worry, and take your time. We are in no rush. However, know that the test to decide if you join will be decided by me and no one else." Issei added. 'Now, if you'd excuse me, I need to get to training."
"Of course. Thank you for indulging me, Issei, and thank you for the chance you offered me to join your ranks." And then she left, leaving Issei to look over his gains.
+5 RP with Ravel Phenex.
Well, that was productive, if anything. No time to rest, however. It was time to train and better himself.
In the meantime, in another location, namely, at the Frozen Timbers base, Ignium was standing before the giant ship. "Ah, the Bismark." He said, looking at the behemoth of steel. "Weighting over fifty thousand tons when fully loaded and over forty thousand when not loaded, this behemoth of steel was the crown jewel of Hitler's Kriegsmarine. Maned by two thousand souls, it drove terror into the hearts of the allies! What a marvel…"
"Umm. Sir?" Marakus Aim spoke from his side, with Tadeus Crawley standing on the demon's other side in his lab attire and a pair of thick laboratory glasses.
"Forgive me. I am just marveling at the ingenuity mankind can prove itself capable of. This ship was a true beast of its time, a miracle of engineering and military might. Tadeus! Did you locate what I asked for?" Ignium asked, turning to the man in question.
"Yes, Sir! Bring it!" With a shout, two large golems, similar to the ones Issei fought, appeared. Their main bodies were made of concrete parts, but they were more complex than the ones Issei had fought. Traces of metal and other bits were visible between the parts and more. The two golems were carrying together a large vault of some kind, and when they dropped it down, it caused the earth to shake. "We had to rip it out of the wall. Some parts were damaged, but we are working on fixing the damage caused already."
"And why did you rip it out? You couldn't open it?" Ignium asked, to which Marakus answered.
"No, Sir. Watch." Marakus stepped forth, and when he put his hand on the vault, a magical seal erupted, pushing him away. Ignium raised an eyebrow at the sight. "It is enchanted. It seems to be designed to allow only one person to touch it. Most likely the same person who placed the enchant."
"I see. Predictably, after more than half a century, said person is likely no longer around. It explains why you called me here." Ignium stated as he went near, the enchant flaring to live in his presence. "What a strong enchant as well. To keep an Ultimate-Class Devil out like this, now this is quality! It's not like any cheap knock-off enchantment nowadays. Now, let me just…"
Approaching his finger to the vault, Ignium touched the enchant lightly. However, from the point where the tip of his nail touched the seal, black flames expanded over it, eating away at the magic until it was fully gone. To prove it, Ignium put his hand on the handle of the vault, then ripped the door out. "What do you know? After around a century in salty water, the steel is practically cardboard now!"
Once the vault was gone, however, a thick mist erupted. Black and thick, casting an unnatural shadow over the entire place. Ignium whistled at the event and even felt himself growing…Drowsy. As expected of what was inside, given its properties. And origin. Ignium felt almost giddy, feeling himself growing weaker. It has been a long time for him since he felt something ACTUALLY affect him. Usually, his flames did away with almost any power that tried to influence him in any way, burning it to absolute nothingness. Yet, here he stood, enveloped in the same mist, and his fire was not reacting.
"How peculiar." All around them, several staff members and soldiers were starting to lose their footing, falling. Even Tadeus was not spared, yet Marakus caught him in time.
"Sir! What in the name of Hell's nine circles is in there?" Marakus asked with urgency, yet Ignium simply reached into the vault and picked something up. And when Marakus saw it, his eyes widened like saucers. "Impossible! Is that-"
"A Sacred Gear. Not any Sacred Gear, either. This is one of Vritra's Sacred Gears." Ignium stated, holding the gear in his hand. The Sacred Gear resembled a purplish gem of some kind, yet the color swirled and changed as black and purple mixed in, yet kept separated. The mist was coming from it, and it was not stopping. "Hitler found out about Sacred Gears not long after he came into power and World War 2 began and attempted to use them. Attempted is the keyword here. His actions, the genocide he had done, saw many Gear users killed. He had, however, found a user of this Gear. Sleepy Hollow. He had had the Gear extracted, having struck a deal with Azazel himself. The idea was to take this Gear and hand it over to one of their agents in the USA, where this person would use it to kill the entire government. A plan that failed when the Bismark, the ship tasked with transporting this Gear in secret, was sunk to the bottom of the sea."
"And what are your plans with it, Sir? Are we going to use it?" Marakus asked, but then Ignium saw a golem going near him with a special box where he placed the Gear. Upon the box closing, its effects vanished, allowing the people around to recover and wake up.
"We are not going to use it if that's what you were wondering, Marakus. Oh no, this is a bit much for us." Ignium stated, leaving his colonel confused. "I know. Sacred Gears are rare treasures, and currently, we are not rocking the greatest arsenal of them, but at the same time, my old friend, they are a bargaining chip. They make for quite the useful gifts for forging alliances."
"So, you wish to give it away? Just like that?"
"Please, this was merely a bonus. The ship is what I really wanted, Marakus. Once your boy toy finished its repairs and improvements, you will see that I made the right decision." Ignium reassured him, yet Marakus still seemed somewhat uneasy. "How about we change the subject, shall we? Tell me, Tadeus…"
The man in question was still recovering from the effects of the Gear, yet he was able to reply sleepily. "Yes?"
"How goes my production of golems? But weapons?"
"Golems…Oh! Right! Well, we have certainly come a long way from the old days of wooden dolls, and now I am working with some sterner stuff. The golems are progressing well, with several models already having entered mass production. I am still working on a few models, which are prototypes at the current moment, but I should be able to complete them within a few months."
"Good. Good. Anything else?"
"Well, we are also producing new armor, weaponry, and even a few utility-oriented devices for use during battle. I've kept myself busy." Tadeus continued, but then he seemed to have recalled something. "Oh! One more thing, Sir…I have a request."
"Namely?"
"Well, not all inventions that I created are…Safe. Unfortunately, I have found myself unable to allow them to be used in good conscience. Maybe in extremely dire circumstances, but I adamantly refuse to let them be mass-produced. Sir, I request a warehouse to store those dangerous devices so they can be later used or destroyed accordingly."
"Hmm. Granted. However, I want a full list of every device, along with in-depth descriptions of each of their functions."
"You will have it by tomorrow," Tadeus assured the general, then Ignium took the box.
"I want everyone prepared for what is coming. War is often unpredictable. And the turmoil that follows is anything but different. Marakus! Scout and put every single Kuoh base into function! We will be temporarily using them again. I want them cleaned and put into working order by the time of the conference!"
"Sir!" Marakus replied strongly, accepting the order.
"Now, if you'd excuse me, I will depart back to the main HQ with Sleepy Hollow. Ensure that preparations are finished by the time we deploy." And so, Ignium left, going to the teleportation device and carrying Sleepy Hollow. He swiftly found himself taken back to HQ, where he went down the hallway.
Entering his private chambers, Ignium set the box down on a table before he sat on the bed, letting out a long sigh of relief. Looking outside, he saw the sky of hell high above. The main HQ of the Snake of Adam was located in a secure location, heavily fortified, within hell's first capital. The City of Dis. It was abandoned following a blood-filled battle during the Great War. A surprise attack conducted by the Fallen.
Effective, as it ultimately resulted in a slaughter of the Fallen. However, it was a slaughter on both sides. Ignium recalls that day well. The defenses of Dis were rendered null, forcing Lucifer to give the order to relocate the capital. Thus, a new city bearing his name was erected in less than one week.
Vanity. Petty compensation. Nothing else.
Such things do not bind him. He is free, bound solely to his duty. Lucifer is DEAD. All former leaders are. The only ones that had a hold over him were no more, and so he founded the Snake of Adam. His army - his people! His duty is now to them, to lead them. And to that extent, he will seek to destroy his enemies. Crushing them with the power Lucifer granted him. The fire that boils his blood.
The power…No…Lucifer didn't grant him this power.
"Never," Ignium stated, lifting his hand and letting a powerful flame erupt. He was looking at the sky, where he recalled clearly how he fell with the others. The pain of both losing and landing stuck with him. It was in his flesh. He…Was a DEMON!
He is not a Devil! He was not born into this realm; he was NOT BORN. He was CREATED by the most divine of hands! God created his angels in perfection, and in perfection they remain! Their bodies might be tainted, but…Ignium's soul craved the heavens again. He was not alone. Many demons craved to see the light - to feel the crisp air against their faces once again.
Many regretted following Lucifer…But never dared to betray him. They stayed loyal and, over time, learned to live with their new bodies, powers, and status. They were no longer God's servants. They were dukes, princes, and kings in this damned realm.
But Ignium? He didn't wish for power. He didn't lust for flesh. He didn't thirst for blood.
As his fire died down, tears began to fall to the ground, causing the floor to smoke, and even his tears were smoldering hot. Boiling and melting through the floor. "Oh, Father…Wherever you are, give mercy to your sons and daughters that went astray. I envy you…You are at true peace, unable to see how things are. But tell me, O Father, is this truly the world you wanted?"
