Pokemon: A Rocket Adventure

Chapter 3: Snake in the Grass

Route 1

It has only been an hour since departing from Pallet Town and starting her journey but she found herself full of nervous excitement. Her partner on the other hand was running about in wonder. He had vague memories of greenery like what was around them but it still felt all new to him. He ran ahead of his trainer when a thick bush with bright yellow flowers came into view. Lex cooed at the delightful aroma he could smell from the flowers and leaned in close as he sniffed. He then suddenly pulled back with pollen on his little black nose and he began to sneeze.

"Haha, yeah. Don't go sticking your nose into pretty flowers Lex. They might be holding a surprise." Sarah laughed softly as she knelt down to wipe her Pikachu's nose clean of the pollen.

Lex wiggled his nose after she cleaned it and sighed in relief. She petted him on the head before she resumed walking. Lex hurried after her on all fours and then passed her to continue checking out anything and everything new.

It was a pleasant afternoon. Skies were blue with some small white clouds and the sun shone brightly. A gentle breeze blew across the trail, rustling the leaves of trees and the grass. It was quite a picturesque environment.

"This is nice," Sarah smiled.

"Pika!" Lex agreed before he dashed away from the dirt road and into the tall grass toward a bush with pink flowers.

"Don't go too far Lex."

Sarah could see where her pokemon was going thanks to his lightning bolt shaped tail sticking out the grass. Suddenly the Pikachu let out a cry of surprise and rushed back out of the grass. He was soon followed out by a small purple coloured mouse like pokemon with a large set of front teeth.

"Oh a Rattata," she smiled. "Ok Lex, here's another chance for you to battle. Luckily this is just a normal type so you shouldn't have to worry about getting poisoned,"

The Rattata growled at Lex and pawed at the ground, it clearly wanted to fight the strange pokemon that intruded on its bush. The Pikachu nervously lowered himself to all fours and began channeling his energy into his electric sacks immediately. The purple pokemon squeaked and rushed at Lex.

"Dodge it Lex and use Thundershock!" Sarah ordered as she noticed a glow to his cheeks.

Lex crouched and as the Rattata got close and raised a paw to swipe at him, he jumped to the side. The Rattata sailed past him and let out a frustrated cry upon missing its target. It turned to face him but then realised it was in trouble. Lex cried out as he released his power in a big electric blue arc. The Rattata gulped and braced itself as the arc of blue energy slammed down on it to which it screamed from the pain.

"That's it, well done Lex," Sarah cheered.

Lex cut his attack and waited. The Rattata, now very frazzled, whimpered from being electrocuted and realised that this Pikachu is stronger than it appeared. It let out a squeal and then ran back into the grass and disappeared.

"Pika?"

"Aww, it ran away… oh well," Sarah sighed in disappointment but then smiled as she bent down and petted her partner. "Good job Lex,"

"Chaaaa." Lex cooed happily at the praise and affection.

Lex felt better about himself after his little victory. The defeat to the Weedle had knocked his confidence a little but beating the Rattata helped to get some back.

The pair resumed their walk through Route 1 towards Viridian City for a couple more hours. In that time they encountered a few more pokemon along the way that they battled. Lex found the Rattata and Pidgey they encountered to be fairly easy to battle. Rattatas would flee after getting hit with a Thundershock but Pidgeys proved to be a little harder due to them being able to fly. They helped to further improve Lex's aim but like the Rattata, they would flee if they got hit. In the end, Lex found it rather annoying when they'd flee instead of fighting to the end.

Sarah realised they wouldn't make it to Viridian City before the sun set so she decided to camp out for the night. She walked a bit away from the road to an empty spot of grassland near a stream.

"This will be a good spot to set up camp." she smiled to herself and then set down her backpack. Lex sat to one side as he watched his trainer pitch her tent and found himself amazed when her tent sprang up after she unfolded a flat disc.

After eating dinner the pair settled down for the night as the sun had set. Sarah and Lex both stared up into the darkening night sky as the stars and moon began to appear.

"An untainted night sky is gorgeous," Sarah smiled as she could see far more stars in the sky out here than from her home in Vermillion. "It's such a shame the city lights block most of this,"

"Pikaaa," Lex agreed with a nostalgic look on his face. In the back of his mind he could clearly remember seeing such a beautiful night sky before from when he was a young Pichu.

"You did well today Lex," she smiled while she gently stroked her pokemon down his back.

The Pikachu sighed softly from the pleasant feeling of his trainer's hand stroking down his back. He also felt a lot better in himself for the small victories and having pleased Sarah. He felt like he could take on anything now if he made her happy.

Both human and Pikachu were jolted awake by the now familiar loud rapid electric guitar riffs from Sarah's personalised alarm.

Lex found himself being thrown from his spot on his trainer's chest and onto the sleeping bag down between her legs as she sat bolt upright. He cried out in shock and annoyance from loud metal music along with half of the sleeping bag falling over him. Sarah meanwhile in a sleep daze began to blindly wave her arm around as she tried to find the source of the racket. Finally as she properly woke up and focused she grabbed the annoyance and roughly hit the off button.

"Bloody alarm…" she groaned tiredly.

"Pika pi!"

"Huh… oh sorry Lex," Sarah apologised as she untangled her Pikachu from under the sleeping bag.

"Pika pika pikachu!" He whined while pointing at the hovering Rotom Phone that he swore was laughing at them with how the pokemon's face on it was grinning at them.

"Yeah, sorry Lex. I was sure I turned it off," she grabbed the hovering phone and pressed the clock app. She then found her alarm and flicked the digital switch to off. She didn't notice the switch flick back to on at the last second as she turned the app off. The Rotom face on the back of the phone contorted into silent mischievous laughter. "That should do it."

After getting ready for the day the pair enjoyed the early morning sunrise and some breakfast. They also did a little training where Sarah explained to Lex about the move "Growl" and had him try it out until she felt he could do a fairly intimidating Growl.

The pair continued on towards Viridian City by following the stream northward. They got to see several pokemon along the stream taking a morning bath or drink. Sarah nodded to herself as she remembered what Professor Oak had said yesterday about the number of non-native pokemon as she spotted Surskits and Yamna mixed in with the Rattata and Pidgeys. They kept their distance from the pokemon so as to not disturb them.

By the late morning the pair left the tranquil stream and began to cut across a grassy field to rejoin the road. About half way across the field, Lex suddenly stopped and stood still while his long ears twitched.

"Hmm, what's the matter Lex?" Sarah asked as she noticed her Pikachu had stopped unexpectedly.

Lex turned his head left and right while his ears continued to twitch while he listened intently. After a good minute his left ear stood up as he caught the sound of a struggling cry and snapping of twigs. He got the feeling something was in trouble.

"Pika pikachu!" He shouted before he turned and began to run.

"H-hey, wait for me!"

Sarah quickly caught up to her pokemon as he ran. His ears would twitch and he'd change direction ever so slightly. Eventually after a solid few minutes Lex stopped by a sizable thorny bush that had a pair of Spearows squawking and flapping around it as trying to reach something inside.

"What's going on here?" Sarah panted.

"Pikachu pika," Lex replied while pointing at the bush.

Sarah was about to ask what was in there when she heard a weak pained cry from inside the bush. The cry seemed to spur the Spearow on as they squawked loudly in response.

"Right, there must be a pokemon inside that bush and those Spearow are after it," she deduced. "Ok, Lex, use Thundershock, get their attention!"

The blue eyed Pikachu nodded and began charging his energy. He even used his forepaws to rub his cheeks in the hopes of stimulating them faster. When he felt he had generated enough energy he waited for the bird pokemon to get close to each other before he shot his electricity between them. The squawking birds shrieked as the blue electric bolt shot between them and pulled their attention away from the bush and onto the young woman now standing there. Upon seeing her and recognising her as a pokemon trainer they then looked to the ground where they'd find her tame pokemon. However, the moment they saw the Pikachu they squawked in alarm and fled as fast as they could to the nearest treeline.

Sarah was dumbfounded as she watched the two Spearow fly away like their lives depended on it. "Uh, ok, that's new,"

"Pi ka?" Lex was equally surprised.

"Err yeah. Spearow normally don't stop when they have something in their sights and a trainer pokemon riles them up big time."

Their attention was again drawn to the bush as the cry came again and from the sound of snapping twigs. Sarah quickly got down onto her knees.

"Hey, it's ok. The Spearow are gone now. It's safe to come out,"

Lex repeated his trainer's words in the hopes it would coax out the distressed pokemon. Not long after, a green serpentine pokemon fell out of the bush. It looked like a small green snake with a large leaf on the end of its tail and had small stubby legs and leaf-like forelimbs. The poor thing was injured as well, sporting wounds that had obviously come from the Spearow and the thorns of the bush but there were also older wounds as well. It clearly looked like it had been through a lot.

"Holy hell, that's a Snivy!" Sarah gasped in shock. "There's no way that's wild!"

The Snivy tried to push itself back up but collapsed again. Too weak and tired to move anymore.

"Pikachu," Lex said worriedly as he looked over the injured pokemon.

Sarah quickly got over her shock as she realised how hurt the pokemon actually was and she suspected it was both hungry and thirsty as well. She quickly shook off her backpack and dug out a small bottle of water.

"Lex, repeat what I say to it in case it doesn't understand me please,"

"Pi," Lex nodded.

"Thank you… Ok Snivy, I'm just going to roll you over and give you some water,"

As Lex repeated what she said, she then gently grasped the small grass type on both sides of its body and turned it over so it was then laying on its back. The weak pokemon cracked its large red eyes open to see what was happening and saw the human woman bring a bottle of clear liquid to its mouth. Sarah held the back of the Snivy's head gently to support it while she slowly poured water against its mouth. The moment it tasted the clean fresh refreshing cold water it got a sudden surge in strength and grabbed the end of the bottle and began to guzzle down the water like mad.

"Whoa easy, not so fast!"

After guzzling down half the bottle it choked and began coughing. Sarah pulled the bottle away and thankfully the Snivy stopped coughing and seemed to relax a bit now that its thirst was quenched.

"There's no way this is wild. Lex, can you ask it if it has a trainer please,"

Lex relayed the question as Sarah helped it sit up. The weak pokemon nodded in reply and spoke in a tired voice. After it finished, Lex repeated what it said to Sarah while gesturing with his forepaws, some of which he pointed towards the stream and doing impressions to depict looking for something.

"Are you saying someone told it to wait by the stream, then it started looking for them?"

The Pikachu nodded.

"Since you moved, your trainer might not be able to find you now. They might have reported you as missing," she said to the Snivy as she put the water away and stood back up while putting her pack back on. "I can't just leave you here either as you need medical attention. Perhaps we'll find your trainer at the Pokemon Centre,"

While Lex relayed what his trainer said, she then remembered that the Professor had upgraded her Pokedex with the National Dex.

"Perhaps my Pokedex can give me some useful info on you," she said to herself as she stuck her hand into her shorts pocket where she had put her Pokedex. In her rush to check her Pokedex, she didn't notice that one of her empty pokeballs was pulled out with it. She just about flipped it open when she felt and heard a thud against her boot. She looked down just in time to see her Pokeball bounce away from the toe of her boot and enlarge. The full size pokeball then bopped the Snivy right in the nose.

"Oh, sorry Sni…" she trailed off as the ball snapped open and the Snivy dissolved into energy and was then sucked up into the ball. The moment the last bit of energy entered the ball it snapped shut and fell down into the grass. It shook once before it chimed to indicate a successful capture.

"Snivy has been registered to your Pokedex!" The device in her hand chirped in its dull electronic female voice.

Sarah and Lex both stood there for a couple of minutes totally dumbfounded. Slowly the confused woman looked at her Pikachu.

"Um, what just happened?"

"Pikachu pi?" He replied just as confused as his trainer.

"This doesn't make any sense." she continued as she picked up the ball now containing the Snivy. "If it has a trainer, then this ball shouldn't have been able to capture it," her eyes then widened. "The fact it did could means one of two things,"

"Pika?"

Just as she opened her mouth to explain. The treeline where they saw the Spearow from early flew off to, suddenly seemed to explode. Dozens of Spearow took to the air from the trees, all squawking loudly.

"Oh that can't be good." Sarah said fearfully as she took a step back.

Moments later a huge shadow rose up from the trees in the middle of the flock and bellowed a loud angry cry.

"Oh crap, that's a Fearow!" She held her arm out to her Pikachu. "We gotta run, NOW!" She yelled with urgency.

Lex quickly jumped up and grabbed onto her arm as she broke into a sprint. The moment she felt him on her arm she pulled him around and hugged him to her chest while she ran. While the woman ran towards the road, the flock of Spearow began to fly after her with the Fearow leading the way.

"I heard rumours of Spearow being more aggressive towards trainers here but this is ridiculous!" Sarah cried as she saw the shadow of the flock approaching out of the corner of her eye.

The Fearow cawed suddenly and the Spearow around it began to dive at the running human. She gasped out in shock when she realised they were attacking her and she tried to run in a zigzag pattern to hopefully throw them off.

"Lex, quick, climb onto my back and use Thundershock. Don't worry about hitting them. Just fire wildly, it should deter them!"

The Pikachu nodded and climbed up her jacket and sat on the top of her backpack. He threaded an arm and his tail under the straps to anchor himself so he wouldn't fall off while she ran and began charging his power. The moment he was seen by the flock, the Fearow roared with anger and the Spearow began to divebomb them faster.

"What's gotten into these pokemon?!" Sarah fearfully cried.

Lex knew pokemon could be aggressive from his time in captivity but this was a level of aggression he had never seen before either and it was scary. Despite his mounting fear, he steeled his nerves and continued to gather his power. The attacking bird pokemon squawked in warning and began to fly in a more scattered formation as they could sense the mounting energy. With a cry, Lex let loose a wild Thundershock. The lightning bolt flew through the flock, causing them to back off and scatter but they continued their pursuit.

Sarah was thankful that TR had a required fitness level regardless of job position. Her time in the gym to keep herself fit was now paying off while she was being chased by a flock of crazy pokemon. She felt a sliver of relief when she eventually made it back to the dirt road. "Can't be that far away from Viridian now surely."

After an hour of constant running and her Pikachu releasing bursts of lightning. Both of them were feeling tired. Sarah's legs burned horribly as she tried to maintain her speed and Lex's Thundershocks were getting longer between each shock. Eventually the inevitable happened and when Lex tried to fire off another Thundershock, he found he had no electricity left.

"Pi… pika… pikachu…" the tired pokemon panted.

Sarah could hear how tired her Pikachu was and noticed that he'd stopped firing off Thundershocks. She was impressed that he managed to last as long as he did. With Lex unable to continue shooting off his electricity she reached up and pulled him off her back and hugged him to her chest again for protection. The pursuing bird pokemon saw this and redoubled their efforts now the threat of electrocution had passed.

"This is not how I envisioned my journey to start!" Sarah shrieked as Spearow swooped down. She tried to dodge them but some were able to peck her back or slap their wings against her arms as they dive bombed her.

Eventually the city of Viridian came into view after she crested a hill in the road. The sight of the city filled her with some relief but the burn in her legs and chest told her she might not make it with the pursuing flock after her.

Further up the road a young man in his late twenties was walking along the road headed for Pallet Town. He lifted the brim of his yellow and black cap as he noticed a large flock of unfamiliar bird pokemon headed his way. It wasn't long before he saw a young woman come running up the road whilst holding a Pikachu to her chest.

"Oh hi, um, is this the way to Pallet Town?" He called out to her as she got close.

"Sorry, can't talk, running for my life!" She shouted back as she zipped past.

He blinked in surprise at first but then understood the urgency when he saw that the flock of pokemon were actually chasing and attacking her. He quickly grabbed a pokeball from his belt and threw it up.

"Electivire, get their attention with Thunderbolt!"

The pokeball burst open and a large bipedal, black and yellow fuzzy pokemon appeared and landed on the ground. It let out a roar and quickly fired off a large bolt of electricity at the flock of Spearow. The flock quickly turned around upon sensing incoming danger and with a panicked squawk they all scattered to avoid the lightning bolt.

The Fearow cawed angrily and turned to face the new threat and quickly noticed the man and his large fuzzy pokemon. Despite its hatred for Pikachu it knew this new pokemon was a bigger threat and decided to change targets. With a caw the Spearows rallied up around their leader and began their assault on the new threat.

Sarah shrieked when she heard and felt the electric attack whiz past above her head. She stopped and turned around to see what had happened and spotted the man she had run past getting the flock's attention with a large intimidating Electivire. He soon noticed that she had stopped and was looking his way so he waved her on.

"Go, I got this!"

Not wanting to get the attention of the Spearows again she nodded her thanks and continued to run to Viridian City.

The man smiled as the woman continued to run to safety. "Good, now that she's gone…" he thought and turned to his Electivire. "Time to bring the Thunder Electivire. Go for it!"

The large fuzzy pokemon roared and clenched its fists as power surged from its body. Overhead dark thunder clouds formed and blanketed the area in shade before the electric pokemon roared again and a bolt of energy shot up into the clouds. The Spearows and Fearow felt scared with the sudden change in weather and rightfully so as moments later a colossal lightning bolt came down from the clouds and struck the Fearow.

"Nice shot Electivire!" The trainer cheered as the Thunder attack struck the leader of the flock.

The Thunder attack then exploded to finish off the attack. The explosion was the last straw for the Spearow and they scattered in fear and flew away. To the man's surprise the Fearow was still in the air despite now looking like a half cooked turkey. The injured bird pokemon cawed angrily at them but knew it was out of its depth, and with its flock scattered it knew it didn't have a chance and so it did the only thing it could do which was to flee. It utilised the move Agility and shot away at a blistering speed back to its nest.

"Can't believe it tanked your Thunder but it did the trick," he smiled as he patted the big fuzzy pokemon on the shoulder. "Good job old friend. C'mon, let's keep going." And with that they continued their trek southward.

Sarah panted tiredly as she entered Viridian City. She was utterly knackered and her legs and chest burned horribly from exertion.

"If we ever see that guy again Lex, remind me to thank him,"

"Pikachu."

The two of them both then sighed in relief now that they were out of danger. Sarah though kept at a brisk walk as she still had an urgent matter to attend to, the injured Snivy.

As the sky began to darken with the setting sun, the huge red dome of the Viridian Pokemon Centre came into view.

"Thank Arceus, we're almost there."

As Sarah walked past a dark alley between two buildings just before the plaza in front of the Pokemon Centre, something caught her attention and she stopped. Lex squeaked from the sudden stop and just as he looked up to see his trainer, she walked backwards until she stood at the entrance to the alley. She turned and stared into the dark alley and just deep enough into the alley to largely go unnoticed by the average person was a poster stuck to the wall. The poster was unremarkable as it was designed not to get the attention of just anybody but rather some certain like minded individuals. In recent years however, it had become something that Sarah had become familiar with within her old desk job in TR.

"This is a bold move for them if they're putting up posters here of all places. Giovanni won't be happy about this." she said out loud to herself before with extra urgency jogged away to the Pokemon Centre.

Sarah practically stumbled through the automatic glass doors of the pokemon hospital and up to the large front desk. The pink haired woman, Nurse Joy, quickly stood up as Sarah all but collapsed against the desk.

"Oh my goodness, are you ok?" Nurse Joy asked in concern.

Sarah took a moment to get her breath back and then placed Lex and the pokeball containing the Snivy down on the desk.

"I'm fine. Please, my pokemon need attention!"

"Of course, I'll see to them but, are you certain you're ok? Your arms have quite a few scratches,"

Sarah smiled appreciatively to the caring woman and waved her hands placatingly. "I'm fine, thank you Nurse Joy really. I just need to sit down that's all,"

"If you're sure,"

"Pika pi," the Pikachu said nervously.

"Chansey chanse," a large pink pokemon with a big white egg on its belly said to him reassuringly.

"Don't worry, you'll be in good hands with her Lex," Sarah also reassured him.

"Pikachu," he said with reluctance but allowed Nurse Joy to pick him up along with the pokeball.

"Come along Chansey." Nurse Joy said as she headed for a door behind the desk. The Chansey nodded as it followed its partner into the back to assist in healing Sarah's pokemon.

Once Nurse Joy disappeared into the back, Sarah hurried over to the waiting area. She sat down with a sigh of relief on one of the seats as far away from anyone in the lobby as she could get. She took a moment to rest before she pulled out her phone and scrolled through her contacts until she found the one for Giovanni that simply read as 'Boss'. She tapped the call button and waited. Eventually the Rotom Phone expanded into a square and the face of Giovanni's receptionist/assistant appeared on screen.

"I'm sorry but Giovanni is in a business meeting at the moment. Can I take a message?" The blonde haired woman said almost robotically.

"Oh, hi Domino," Sarah greeted in slight disappointment. "Um yeah. I just arrived in Viridian City and I've seen something that I think Giovanni will need to know about as soon as possible,"

Domino's eyes widened slightly at the urgency in Sarah's voice. "What have you found, Miss Townsend?"

"I've seen a recruitment poster in an alley for Team Black Rocket,"

Domino's eyes widened further at this revelation and understood the urgency. "Right of course. Thank you Miss Townsend. I'll be sure to inform Giovanni the moment his meeting has concluded." And with that the call ended.

With the call over, the phone reverted to its normal size and Sarah put it back into her pocket. She hoped that Domino would tell their boss about what she found as soon as possible since Viridian City is his home turf as it were. She also believed he'd likely not be happy to know the splinter faction is making moves on his territory unless he already knew, but she felt like it was worth mentioning just in case.

Almost half an hour later, Nurse Joy emerged from the back with a revitalized Lex and a pokeball on a trolley. Sarah smiled happily upon seeing her pokemon and stood up and met Nurse Joy halfway.

"Your pokemon have been restored to good health," she announced with a smile which quickly turned into a frown. "I would recommend looking after your Snivy much better though. It was rather hungry and slightly dehydrated,"

"Um, thank you Nurse Joy, but I found Snivy in that condition," she then remembered what she intended to ask the woman when she accidentally caught the pokemon. "Um, Nurse Joy, has anyone perhaps lost a Snivy recently? The one I unintentionally caught said it had a trainer," she asked while she retrieved her pokemon.

The older woman looked surprised for a moment but then put a hand to her chin in thought. She took a minute before she shook her head. "I'm afraid no one has reported a lost Snivy, but I did overhear someone that was headed for Victory Road talk about releasing an unwanted grass type the other day,"

"I see, ok, thank you Nurse Joy," Sarah said sadly. "Is there any rooms available?"

Joy nodded as she then went back to her desk and plucked a key off a rack on the back wall. "Here you go miss, have a pleasant stay and please return the key when you are to leave."

Sarah thanked Nurse Joy for her hospitality and then headed for a side door that would take her to the Trainer Dormitory section of the centre. She followed the directions on the notice boards to her room and entered the dorm room. She then locked the door behind her and as she entered the small room she deposited her bag and jacket onto the chair next to a desk and then sat down on the bed. Lex sat on the bed beside her as she held the pokeball containing Snivy.

"Come on out Snivy,"

The red and white ball snapped open and in a burst of white light the revitalised Snivy materialised on the bed.

"Snivy!" It proclaimed as it felt better than it had in a while. It looked around confused for a moment when it realised it wasn't outside any more and then turned around to see an unfamiliar human girl and a strange Pikachu. "Sni? Sni snivy sni sni snivy?" It then paused when it remembered what happened earlier and looked very confused.

"Lex?" Sarah looked down at her partner who then nodded to say he was ready. She smiled at him before she took a deep breath and told Snivy everything that had happened. The Snivy listened and did get upset upon hearing that its original trainer had pitentially let it go and that Sarah wouldn't be able to follow him due to not having any gym badges yet. It appreciated that Sarah told it the truth and wasn't upset with her for the unintended capture as it had watched her when she had pulled out her Pokedex and saw the ball drop out her pocket.

"Snivy, I don't want you to feel obligated to be on my team because of how I ended up capturing you," Sarah began. "It was completely unintentional, but I want to give you the choice. I would be happy to have you on my team, but if you don't want to, I fully understand."

Snivy was surprised that this human was even giving it a choice. The grass type stood there in thought as it thought about this choice. It watched as the unusual Pikachu smiled and placed a forepaw on the human's thigh to show his trust in her. In the end, the Snivy smiled as it stepped forward and nodded in agreement in wanting to join her. It could tell she meant what she said and would care about it like the Pikachu, plus it didn't want to be alone again.

Sarah smiled and gently picked the Snivy up and gave it a gentle hug. "Welcome to the team Snivy,"

"Pi pikachu,"

"Snivy sni,"

Sarah smiled as she set the Snivy back down. "Oh, since Lex has a name, perhaps I should name you too. Would you like your own name?"

Snivy seemed intrigued and happy about the prospect of having its own name. The day ends with all three brainstorming on a suitable name for the grass snake pokemon.

Meanwhile somewhere in Kanto.

A blue haired man clad in a black uniform sat in a high back swivel chair facing a window. His stern gaze looked through his office window and onto a forest that surrounded his compound. His thoughts were interrupted when the terminal on his desk began to beep. With a sigh the man turned to face his desk and tapped a key on his keyboard to answer the call. The screen on his terminal flashed on and a silhouetted person appeared.

"I have warned you about your ambitiousness before Archer," the figure said in an electronically distorted voice.

Archer inwardly sighed as he was getting tired of these faceless communications but bit back his frustration. "What do you mean?"

"Your attempted to encroach on Giovanni's home territory,"

"I don't kn…."

He was cut off by the figure and despite the distorted voice he could tell they were angry. "You have recruitment posters in Viridian City!"

Archer was surprised how his mysterious boss knew that already and his face must have shown his shock.

"It's my business to know what you do with TBR. I started this operation to bring those that still believe in Team Rocket's original goal of world domination together and put you in charge as its figurehead."

"We need more members if we are to challenge Giovanni and his rebranded Team Rocket,"

"And kicking the Beedrills nest is not the way to do it,"

"Giovanni is a soft goodie two shoes now. It's about time we show we're serious,"

"There is a reason you failed as his second in command, Archer, that ambition of yours is why you failed in Goldenrod all those years ago. He might have turned a new leaf but that makes him more dangerous because he now has the Police on side. And not to mention he always does things with a plan in mind!"

Archer grumbled angrily of being reminded of his failure and his fall from grace in Team Rocket. As he looked at the silhouetted figure he could tell they were smirking at him.

"We are not ready to bring about his fury yet. Now be a good boy, curb that ambition and fix this, and keep having agents harass people all over Kanto and Johto to keep the trail scattered," There was a pause and despite the altered voice not changing, Archer could feel the threatening tone in his mysterious boss's next words. "Otherwise Archer. I can have Giovanni breaking down your door and feed you and TBR to the Houndooms in an instant!" And with that the transmission ended.

Archer grumbled angry to himself. As much as he felt Team Black Rocket could stand on its own. His mysterious boss was right about one thing and he knew it. They could terminate TBR without a second thought. So with great reluctance, the supposed leader of TBR sucked in his pride and began to undo the mess he made.
