Bucky and Sam had been dating for three years and working together as partner for four.

While Sam goes by Captain America Bucky goes by Sergeant Barnes.

They were at a cookout with Sarah, Cass, AJ and the town folk like any other summer and having fun.

"So when are you two getting married and having kids?" someone asked and Bucky froze while Sam shrugged.

"I don't know. We're kinda busy saving lives ya know." Sam said and looked at Bucky. "We're a little to busy for kids right Buck?" he said and got no reply. "Buck?" he said and Bucky snapped out of it.

"R-right." Bucky said.

"You OK?"

"Yeah." Bucky said and got up. "I'll be right back." he said and left.

"I'm gonna go see what's wrong with him." Sam said and went to follow him.

When Sam found Bucky he saw him sitting there thinking and playing with the ring Sam gave him last week after proposing to him.

"Hey." Sam said gently.

"Hey." Bucky said.

"What's wrong?"

"Just, thinking."

"About what?"

"Um, kids."

"Do you wanna have kids? I'm sure we could adopt them in-"

"W-we don't have to adopt or get a surrogate." Bucky said and Sam froze.

"W-what?"

"I was always a herm and then when I got my serum in '43 Zola made it so I could have kids. When you heard me getting sick every morning for the last few weeks it wasn't a stomach bug. I can't get sick anymore. I was pregnant. Seven weeks."

"Was?"

"When you were at DC I went to see Hellen and find out where I was. The day before you came home I had a miscarriage after finding out Steve passed." Bucky said and felt tears go down. "I didn't want to tell you because we had both just lost a friend and you had just gotten home from DC."

"So those tears weren't just from Steve, they were from the baby to." Sam said and Bucky nodded and looked at him.

"I'm sorry. I know I should've told you but I was just to out of it and still processing it all. The pregnancy, the miscarriage and Steve's death all together."

"Yeah ya should've!" Sam said and turned around. "My god Buck!"

"I'm sorry OK?" Bucky said and they stayed quiet for a few minutes.

"Give me the ring back." Sam said with his hand out and Bucky froze.

"W-what?"

"Give me the ring back. We're done."

"Sam, please don't do this."

"I'm done with all the hiding Buck! Now give me the ring and get outta here!" Sam snapped so Bucky slowly took off the ring, handed him the ring and looked at him fighting tears.

"I guess I should go get my stuff and head back to Brooklyn then."

"Yeah, you should." Sam said and Bucky left while Sam went back to the cook out.

When he got there everyone was confused.

"Where's Bucky?" Sarah asked.

"On his way back to New York." Sam said annoyed.

"What's wrong with you?"

"I broke up with him."

"Why?"

"He was pregnant and had a miscarriage but didn't tell me. He's been hiding so much from me for all those years I've just reached the limit."

"Sam! You can't just leave him like that!"

"I just did." He said and went inside to cool down.

A few hours later Bucky was in his apartment sitting on the couch in silence then looked at the picture of Sam and himself and felt tears going down.

"Sam." he said in a hoarse voice then felt a cramp go off and winced. "Mm. What the hell? The last time I felt this was-" he started and it hit him. "No." he said, looked down and saw blood going down. "No, no, no." he said shaking his head as more tears when down. "Not another one." he said and shut his eyes tight. "Damnit!" he said, got up and headed to urgent care to get that taken care of not to risk any infections or something.

Later he was back home in the kitchen holding a knife in one hand and his phone with a long text in the other.

"Steve's gone, Sam left me, I've lost both of them, killed so many people, this world is better off without me." he said, hit send to Sam and then used the assassin in him to get himself right in the right place and fell to the ground.

'Bye Sam. I'm coming Steve, together til the end of the line.' he thought and shut his eyes as he felt his last breath go out.

At Louisiana Sam was with Sarah ignoring him when his phone went off and he looked at it to see Bucky's number along with Sarah.

"You better read that text or I'm gonna kick you outta the house." Sarah said and he sighed.

"Fine." Sam said and opened the text.

Sam, I'm sorry I didn't tell you I was pregnant and then the miscarriage but after losing Steve that day I was out of it. And with us always on the go it was hard to find the time. When I got back to New York I sat down and cried and like before started feeling cramps and then saw blood coming down and immediately knew what it was. I just didn't know about it this time. I guess we were expecting again but it was another miscarriage before we even knew. If I knew I would've told you and we could've figured something out. I wouldn't keep it away from you at all but I guess that'll never happen now. Now that Steve is gone, you don't want anything to do with me, I have no family members left and all the Commandos are gone I don't see any reason to live anymore so this is good bye. This world would be better off without me anyway. To you and the Louisiana people I'm Sergeant James Barnes but to just about everyone else I'm nothing but the Winter Soldier, the assassin and HYDRA's weapon. So today I'm going to end that. I wanted to tell you one last time I will always love you and will tell Steve you said hello.

Then Sam dropped his phone in shock.

"Oh shit." Sam said.

"What?" Sarah asked while he grabbed his phone and called someone.

"I need an ambulance to an apartment at Brooklyn." he said and gave them the street and apartment number. "Thank you." he said and hung up.

"Sam?"

"He, he just committed suicide."

"Oh my god!"

"I called for an ambulance and he's a Super Soldier so it can't be that easy." he said and tried to stay calm.

"Sam, he was a fully trained assassin for seventy years! He knows how to do it better than anyone!"

"I know but he just did it maybe ten minutes ago so he should be able to make it." he said and thought. "He was pregnant Sarah."

"What?"

"He was pregnant and I caused him to have a miscarriage from the breakup. He just didn't know yet." he said fighting tears.

"Oh Sam."

"I messed up Sarah. I messed up real bad."

"Then go back to him and fix this!" she said and he nodded, grabbed his jacket and left.

A few hours later he was at a hospital sitting next to Bucky waiting for him to wake up.

"I'm so sorry Bucky." Sam whispered, heard a groan and looked at Bucky. "Bucky?" he said quietly and Bucky slowly opened his eyes and looked at him.

"Sam?" Bucky whispered.

"Oh thank God." Sam said as tears of relief started going down. "What were you thinking?" he asked shaking his head.

"I'm tired Sam. I'm tired of living like this. Being left behind so much. I lost my family, Steve left me, Natalia is gone, you left me and I've lost both of them. I've killed so many people and lost so many too." Bucky whispered shaking his head.

"I'm so sorry Bucky. I over reacted yesterday. Please forgive me. We can try this again, I can give you the ring back, wedding can keep going and then we can try again when you're ready." Sam said gently and Bucky looked at him.

"I don't know if I can Sam." Bucky whispered shaking his head. "I don't know if I can trust you again." he said and Sam shut his eyes.

'Of course he doesn't trust me. He's a traumatized veteran from World War Two and victim of HYDRA for seventy years straight. It took you seven years to even become friends!' Sam thought.

"Please Buck, give me another chance." Sam said and Bucky looked at him.

"I, I can't. The only thing I see is you taking that ring away and telling me we're done. I'm sorry Sam but it's going to take a while to get that trust back." Bucky said and Sam took a shaky breath but nodded.

"OK. Do you, do you want me to leave?" Sam asked and Bucky nodded. "I'll uh, just go then. I'll tell Sarah and the boys you're OK then." he said and Bucky nodded and he left while Bucky lay there thinking.

When Sam got outside he took out his phone and called Sarah.

"How is he?" Sarah asked.

"He's uh, he's alive." Sam said and she sighed.

"Thank god."

"I screwed up Sarah. I tried to apologize and get back together be he said no. He was trying to kill himself because he felt so alone!"

"What did you expect Sam? You of all people know his trust issues. You're back to square one. Now you have to try and get your partnership back, then your friendship, and then your relationship. I don't know if that marriage and child is ever gonna happen now. You made your choice, now you have to live through it." she said and he sighed.

"I know."

"Give him some time and maybe he'll give you a second chance." She said and hung up.

And that's exactly what Sam did.

For the next few months Bucky took time off from being Sam's partner to clear his head but eventually came back and rejoined the team.

Sam did what he could to leave him alone outside of work and only stay together as partners.

He made the mistake and now he had to pay the consequences. And that is to wait as long as it takes for Bucky to trust him again.
