"What are you doing here?" May's eyes narrowed, another shuriken slipping between her fingers.

"Checking on the friend you just murdered," the older woman replied coolly.

"Then you are in league with the Queen..." May's suspicion flared.

"I haven't the foggiest what you mean," Clair said, her voice dripping with sarcasm. "But I do know that I have a bug to avenge." She drew a blade, its edge glinting menacingly. Gary mirrored her action, drawing his own weapon.

"I wouldn't recommend getting into a fight with me," May warned.

"Honey, you have no idea how we do things here," Clair smirked. Without warning, she blasted them all with a fierce Blizzard straight from her own palm. May yelped as she was slammed back into a tree. Dawn fell back with a cry. Gary grunted, skidding backwards. Janine hissed in pain as frost formed over her arms. Ash staggered, falling back near May. Gritting her teeth, May struggled to her feet.

"And you have no idea how I do things..." She charged forward with determination. The woman lunged, her fist connecting with May's gut in a powerful Ice Punch. May gritted her teeth through the pain, refusing to back down. She swept the woman's legs, causing her to fall.

"Ack! Little brat!" she spat.

"You don't know the half of it," May retorted, holding a dagger to her opponent's throat. However, the woman responded by blowing a Frost Breath into May's face.

"Ack!" May stumbled back, gasping.

"May!" Ash shouted, concern evident in his voice. May regained her footing and launched several shurikens. But the woman was able to freeze the shurikens mid-air, her eyes cold.

"Now you've got a death wish..."

"Bring it." May glared.

"I'm here!" Glaceon arrived, poised and ready while Gary was right behind her.

"Let's do it," May nodded. She threw down smoke bombs, vanishing into the smokescreen. Their opponent growled in frustration as Gary took the opportunity to charge in head-on, swinging his sword at her. She responded with a ferocious Blizzard, sending icy winds in all directions. Ash shut his eyes, focusing on sensing his surroundings as he worked to help Dawn and Janine back to their feet.

"Reinforcements at 12 o'clock!" he yelled to May. His wife grunted as she was hit, skidding backward.

"Son of a..." she couldn't even finish her comment before a Gyarados spewed a Hydro Pump through the smoke. May gasped and jumped, narrowly dodging the blast.

"We gotta go!" Dawn urged. Pikachu fired a Thunderbolt, the electricity traveling up the water and striking Gyarados, which hissed in pain.

"This way!" Janine called, taking charge. Gary fell back, running off with Dawn close behind. May landed on the ground, casting a final, angry glance back at the woman and Gyarados. Ash grabbed her hand.

"Come on!" he urged, pulling her along as they ran. May followed reluctantly, her mind racing. They dashed down a narrow path, looking for a place to hide as the other dragons began closing in on them from behind.

"They're getting closer!" Gary warned everyone.

"We should get off the road!" Ash advised.

"That way! It's more narrow!" Dawn pointed. Janine threw down another smoke bomb, covering their retreat. The group all dashed into the dense treeline, finally managing to escape as they disappeared into the darker parts of the forest.

"Watch your step here," Ash cautioned, moving carefully through the dense underbrush. May followed closely, her voice tinged with concern.

"Okay...are you okay?"

"Yeah." Ash nodded, though his face showed signs of strain. Pikachu, perched on Ash's shoulder again to catch his breath, tilted his head curiously.

"Who is that woman..?"

"Dangerous." Gary, bringing up the rear, replied grimly.

"No kidding..." Ash gave a humorless chuckle. May's frustration was palpable.

"I can't keep running away like this..."

"May..." Ash began, but she interrupted.

"It won't help me save them...!" she exclaimed, her voice cracking with desperation.

"Neither will getting us killed, May," Ash said, his tone gentle but firm.

"She's involved...I know she is..." May insisted, her fists clenched. Ash looked at her with sadness in his eyes.

"May..."

"I can feel it," she whispered, her resolve unwavering. Ash stared at her, his heart aching. "Why can't I ever get a straight answer?!"

"I wish I knew..." Ash replied softly. May sighed deeply, trying to calm herself. She took a deep breath, steadying her emotions.

"Are they following us?" she asked after a moment.

"I don't think so." Gary shook his head.

"Good..." Ash said, relief evident in his voice.

"That was scary..." Dawn shuddered.

"Cryomancy from a human instead of a dragon is a new one..." Janine nodded, her expression thoughtful.

"Just like Kyurem..." May muttered.

"Can we still get to a town from here?" Ash asked, changing the subject.

"You're the ones who knew where that dragon went." Janine shrugged.

"I guess if we can remember our position in relation to the tree trap, we'll be good." Dawn glanced around. May nodded determinedly.

"I'm on it." She climbed up a nearby tree with agility as Ash watched her anxiously.

"Anything look familiar?" he called up. May scanned the surroundings from the treetop. Her eyes brightened.

"Oh! Bingo!"

"What's up?" Janine looked up.

"I can see the outskirts of a town!" May called down excitedly.

"Same as before or a new one?" Ash asked.

"Definitely new," May confirmed.

"Bingo." Janine grinned. May descended quickly, landing gracefully on the ground.

"Great job," Ash praised.

"Thank you kindly, good sir." May beamed. Ash leaned in and pecked her on the cheek. "You missed," she teased.

"Nah. Warm up," he replied with a smile.

"Ooh," May said playfully. Ash pecked her on the lips this time. May pecked him back, her eyes sparkling. "Extra warm up?"

"Heh...maybe later..?" Ash chuckled.

"Oh, it's going in the book," May teased. Ash blushed, his heart racing while May smiled, her spirits lifted, even if it was only a little.

"There's a path that way." Glaceon pointed with a paw.

"Let's do it." May nodded.

"Lead the way." Ash gestured for her to lead. May took the lead, guiding the group down the forest path with renewed determination. Ash followed close behind, a sense of hope rekindled in his heart.

Later that evening, the group arrived at the outskirts of a small forest town. The atmosphere was markedly different from the last village they visited. May looked around, taking in the new surroundings.

"Not like the last one..."

"Probably for the best right now." Gary nodded in agreement.

"I guess you're right." Ash sighed. May's gaze became distant as she concentrated

"There's some kind of energy signal here... I just don't know where..." she informed them. Dawn placed a reassuring hand on her shoulder.

"Let's take it one step at a time. Let's find somewhere to stay for the night first." she offered.

"I can handle that much." Janine stepped forward confidently.

"Agreed." Gary agreed, his voice firm. May nodded, appreciating the support.

"There's probably an inn somewhere. We should find one with open rooms."

"Leave it to me," Janine said with a nod, turning off to search for accommodations.

"Thanks, sis," May called after her. Janine waved in acknowledgment as she disappeared into the town. May turned to the rest of the group. "The rest of us should try and scout a little. Find out what's all here and what could be a threat."

"Got it," Ash said, his determination clear.

"I'll search the North end." Gary nodded.

"East then." Dawn volunteered next.

"Guess we're headed south." Ash squeezed May's hand.

"Deal," May agreed. Hand in hand, Ash and May split off from Dawn and Gary and walked down the gravel street, the night air cool and crisp. Ash broke the silence, a playful glint in his eyes.

"So was this your excuse to cash in?" May laughed softly.

"You kidding? Why cash in such a valuable promise now when soon we'll have a whole inn room to ourselves?" She smiled mischievously.

"I figured that was a whole separate deal," Ash teased.

"Who says I can't double up?" May quipped back.

"Depends on how much space there is, I guess," Ash replied with a chuckle. May pecked his cheek affectionately.

"It could be a broom closet for all I care. I just want to spend the night with my beloved husband." Ash blushed, feeling a rush of warmth. "Because he's my everything. And I haven't had a chance to show him lately," May continued, her voice soft and sincere.

"And what was this morning?" Ash's blush deepened.

"A way to calm us both down after all that stress," May explained.

"Uh huh," Ash said, clearly amused. May kissed his cheek again, her eyes sparkling.

"Besides, this one is very different."

"I s-see," Ash stammered. May looked into his eyes, her gaze unwavering.

"Do you trust your wife?"

"Depends. Heh..." Ash grinned cheekily.

"On?" May asked, curious.

"Whether you want honesty or agreement," Ash chuckled.

"I always want you to be honest with me, honey." May smiled warmly.

"Then I don't always trust my wife. For reasons she's fully aware of," Ash said with a playful smile. May laughed, genuinely impressed with his response. "I do, however, always trust her to get me into trouble," Ash added, chuckling. May laughed again and wrapped her arms around his neck.

"Well, I hope at least some of it is enjoyable trouble." Ash wrapped his arms around her in return.

"Well, it is," he said with a smile. May smiled back and rested her forehead against his.

"Good... because I'll tell you a little secret..."

"What's that?" Ash asked, intrigued. May pecked his lips and whispered.

"I love you... and I really want to make you the happiest man in the world..."

"I could say the same about you..." Ash pecked back.

"Well, I know you've been stressed... so tonight making me happy will only be by making you happy," May said softly.

"Alright... I agree..." Ash smiled, his heart swelling with love. May smiled softly and kissed him lovingly. Ash kissed back, the connection between them growing stronger. They held each other close, feeling their shared warmth and moaning softly, lost in the moment. May deepened the kiss and Ash responded by invading her mouth, their tongues dancing together. Eventually, May pulled away slowly for air, her eyes still locked on his. Ash grinned. "Aaand ya just cashed it in." May giggled, her heart full of joy. But just as they were about to continue their walk through the quiet streets of the small forest town, a stern voice suddenly broke the silence.

"Hey! What are you two doing out!? It's past curfew!" A guard barked, striding towards them. May looked over in surprise, while Ash turned with an apologetic expression.

"Uh...sorry... We're not from around here," he explained.

"Refugees. When will it ever stop?" The guard groaned, his frustration evident.

"Refugees...?" May echoed, confusion etched on her face.

"Get out of my sight and to the nearest inn. Pronto," the guard commanded, his tone leaving no room for argument.

"Okay," May replied quickly, taking Ash's hand and moving off swiftly.

"Talk about stiff..." Ash muttered as they walked away.

"Seems like there's one on almost every block," May observed, glancing around at the numerous guards.

"No kidding..." Ash agreed.

"Military occupation..." May mused, her mind racing with possibilities.

"Looks like it," Ash said, his brow furrowed in thought.

"Only question is... is this the Queen's military?" May wondered aloud.

"We're sure to find out," Ash replied.

"Hopefully without incident..." May said, her voice tinged with worry.

"Let's regroup," Ash suggested. May nodded and led the way to the designated meetup point. They didn't have to wait long before Dawn walked over, followed closely by Gary.

"Everyone okay?" May asked.

"Yup. Just some jerky soldiers." Gary nodded.

"Likewise," Ash said with a sigh. Just then, Janine came running over.

"Hey!"

"There you are. Are you okay?" May looked over, relieved.

"Yeah," Janine replied, slightly out of breath. "But this place is packed for its size..."

"The inns are full?" May asked.

"I managed to find one, but it's held up by toothpicks," Janine explained.

"Meaning the only one with any space was the worst option," Gary clarified.

"Well, beggars can't be choosers," May said with a resigned sigh.

"No kidding," Ash added.

"Let's head inside before we get yelled at again," May suggested.

"Lead the way." Ash nodded.

"On it," Janine said, taking the lead. May followed closely, the group moving quickly through the dimly lit streets. The tension in the air was palpable, each of them keenly aware of the numerous guards patrolling the area. As they approached the rickety inn Janine had found, they could only hope it would provide some semblance of shelter for the night.
