Chapter Eight: Deathwatch Ascendant
Eversight Soulflayer stared at the stasis field containing Brother Daedric Thorne's body, the room heavy with silence. The Faithful Death orbited the nearest Deathwatch stronghold, Watch Fortress Halix. For a moment, he allowed the weight of Thorne's sacrifice to settle on his mind before turning to his remaining retinue.
"Thorne gave his life in service to the Emperor and the Imperium," Eversight began, his voice low and sharp. "We will honor him with vengeance. His death will be the catalyst that brings the Whispered One to ruin."
The fortress loomed like a mountain of blackened iron against the void, bristling with weaponry and secrets. Inside the grand Hall of Martyrs, Eversight and his Marines stood as Thorne's body was interred in the crypt of honored Deathwatch veterans. Chaplain Orithar Arkael intoned the rites with solemnity, his black power armor adorned with purity seals and burning incense.
"He fought with honor. He died with purpose," Arkael declared, his crozius arcanum raised high. "The Emperor's light will guide him to eternal vigilance."
As the casket was sealed, Eversight turned to Watch Commander Thalion Drelth. The grizzled veteran regarded him with curiosity and a hint of caution.
"What do you require, Inquisitor?" Drelth asked, his voice gravelly.
"Replacements," Eversight replied bluntly. "Warriors who won't flinch at using any kind of weapons in service of the Emperor."
Drelth raised an eyebrow but nodded. "I have six candidates who fit your… unconventional needs."
The six new Deathwatch Marines, each a towering paragon of discipline and lethality, entered the chamber. Eversight scrutinized them with his blazing red eyes as Drelth introduced them:
Brother Tarn Veyal (former Raven Guard): A master of stealth, equipped with Eldar shadow-field tech that rendered him invisible in the shadows. His weapon of choice was an Eldar longrifle modified to fire armor-piercing shards.
Brother Kryn Voltas (former Salamander): A towering figure who wielded a Necron heat lance capable of reducing targets to molten slag.
Brother Lorian Thane (former Imperial Fist): A siege expert armed with a T'au rail rifle adapted for precise, long-range annihilation.
Brother Janus Krall (former Blood Angel): A melee specialist who claimed a Drukhari power glaive, its blade crackling with stolen life-force energy.
Brother Morthas Wren (former Iron Hand): A tech savant wielding Ork looted mega-blasta tech, rebuilt for deadly efficiency.
Brother Kael Drask (former Space Wolf): A feral warrior wielding Necron weaponry, including a gauss flayer grafted to his arm, its energy stripping enemies to molecules with each shot.
Eversight addressed them with a cold grin. "You are no longer bound by the dogma of your chapters. Your loyalty lies with me and the Emperor's will. Arm yourselves from my vault, and prepare for war."
Eversight sent encrypted signals across the sector, summoning allies to join the final assault on the Whispered One. Over the next week, a massive Imperial force began to converge.
•The 501st Armageddon Steel Legion: 10,000 hardened Imperial Guardsmen with an arsenal of Chimera transports, Leman Russ tanks, and Basilisk artillery.
•The Necaris Black Blades: A regiment of Catachan Jungle Fighters famed for their brutal efficiency in close combat.
•The Celestial Fury: An Imperial Navy battlecruiser commanded by Admiral Verix Ral, bristling with macrocannons and torpedo bays.
•The Purity's Wrath: A strike cruiser of built to Deathwatch specifications and crewed eitle Deathwatch Space Marines and operatives.
As the fleet assembled, Eversight addressed the gathered commanders aboard the Faithful Death. His crimson eyes burned as he spoke.
"The Whispered One believes he can break the Imperium from within," he growled. "We will show him the cost of his arrogance. His forces will burn, his lies will shatter, and his name will be erased from existence."
The room erupted in cheers and oaths of vengeance.
